Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Lining Up A Huge Year Of Gaming In 2022

BanjoPickles

I’m sure a lot of people will disagree with me, but that’s okay:

I honestly think that the best course of action would be for Nintendo to sit on Breath of the Wild 2 and Splatoon 3 and make them launch titles for the Switch’s successor. If you look back on the last year or so of the Wii, it was pretty barren but once Switch launched, it made sense: every month or so, we were getting a new major game from the company. Though many of us were playing Breath of the Wild, we didn’t have to wait long for games like Arms, Splatoon 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Mario Odyssey. That first year was absolutely killer, and set the pace for the console! Even if we removed those two games, we’d still have a lot to look forward to. As much as I loved Splatoon 2, it strikes me as a franchise similar to Mario Kart in that we only really need one entry per generation.

Re: Talking Point: 5 Reasons That Nintendo Switch Is Still A Hot Product

BanjoPickles

Simple: the next generation is boring! I keep looking for a reason to own a PS5 and, with the exception of the Demon Souls remake, I’m coming up empty. Do either of the next Gen consoles even have a must have exclusive, a year in? I’m not really understanding the demand. All I see are games being stretched out across multiple generations (GTAV), and games like Resident Evil 8 that have released on both PS4 and PS5.

What am I missing?

Re: Wish Kingdom Hearts Was Native On Switch? A True Port Is Still "Undecided"

BanjoPickles

@Znake

It’s just silly, and a completely missed opportunity. By including Sora as a playable character in a game that has sold upwards of thirty million copies, they created a unique opportunity to expand their fan base by releasing the games on a platform that makes total sense for the franchise....then promptly shot themselves in the foot, in the same Direct, by taking the lazy, Cloud-based approach.

Re: Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack Release Date And Pricing Revealed

BanjoPickles

Though I don't agree with the pricing, I won't complain......nor will I give Nintendo my business. I'll stick with the twenty dollar model, which I feel is beyond fair. However, fifty dollars is kind of a bridge too far for me.

If you don't like it, vote! Don't give in because you desperately want to play Ocarina of Time, or Starfox 64! Send a message if you don't like it. If that pricing structure tanks, then they have two choices: remove the expansion altogether or reduce the price! Remember when the 3DS underperformed, out of the gate? Guess what Nintendo did! They lowered the price by $80, and gave early adopters twenty games! Voting with your wallet does work!

If you cave in and subscribe, then you have only yourself to blame.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Final Fighter Is... Kingdom Hearts' Sora!

BanjoPickles

@russell-marlow

*sigh

I don't recall saying that people can't express their precious feelings. However, that doesn't mean that I can't express my absolute contempt for gamers who whine whenever they don't 100% get what they wanted. Toddlers do that, not fully-developed adults. If these people had a lick of common sense, they would have held off on spending money on the fighter's pass until either A). the entire roster had been revealed, or B). a fighter was announced that would justify the purchase.

There are 30+ million Smash Bros. players, and I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if a quarter of them expected to be catered to. "Where do I get off?" Oh, I'm sorry that I expect (wish?) gamers to act like adults and not entitled brats. They spent money? Yeah, and so did the people who are excited, or those who are actually saying "good for those who are excited."

@UglyCasanova

No, it's like anything else. It's called prioritizing. I promise you that, at this point, you make more than I do (I'm in my last semester of college before student teaching, and I make about $12 an hour).

Sorry, but paying for online isn't a new concept. Did you really think Nintendo was going to keep giving you free online for the rest of your life?

Oh, and my performance is mostly fine. Then again, playing NSO classics is pretty low priority for me. I'm too busy playing through my backlog to whine about not being coddled by a multi-billion dollar company.

Re: Nintendo 64 And Sega Genesis Expansion Pack Announced For Switch Online, Launches This October

BanjoPickles

@KingBowser

Unfortunately, we have to look at the reality: it took Nintendo, what, two years to get around to releasing SNES games on Switch? I honestly can't remember. The console will be five (!!!!!!!!!) in March. I think that, after 2022, things are going to start scaling back in preparation for the next console. If they have a similar setup, they'll probably get around to releasing Gamecube games for the next console cycle.

Re: Nintendo 64 And Sega Genesis Expansion Pack Announced For Switch Online, Launches This October

BanjoPickles

@GameOtaku

If you want to be a game collector, is a digital collection really the way you want to go? I do have a robust collection of 3DS Virtual Console titles, but there is a reason why Nintendo has taken this path. Like somebody else mentioned, was it really a success?

Also, what's the point of a VC? Look at it like this, you can get the following on the Switch:

-Every Castlevania game via the Anniversary Collection
-Every REAL Contra (not Forces) via the Anniversary Collection
-Every NES Mega Man game via Legacy Collection 1
-the Double Dragon Trilogy, AND every Kunio game via the Kunio Kun Collection
-Dragon Quest 1-3 mobile remakes
-Every 8 Bit SNK game (Athena, POW, Guerilla War, etc.)

So, what is left that people actually want? That would leave every 1st party game that Nintendo has coughed up every generation since the Wii, and.....very little else that would be profitable. In a perfect world, games like Faxanadu, Little Samson, Clash at Demonhead, and so many others would have sold through the roof. I've been saying this for the past three years, though the power of curation seems like it's missing, it has actually been shifted to the arcade sector. The availability of classic games is stronger than ever on Switch, and it's really neat being able to stock up on classic arcade games, especially when they go on sale.

Re: Nintendo 64 And Sega Genesis Expansion Pack Announced For Switch Online, Launches This October

BanjoPickles

@JohnnyC EXACTLY! I pay $20 to experiment with new lagers! I'll throw $20 away for a horrible meal at Olive Garden! I once gave a panhandler $20 and it turns out he made more than I did! I once lost $20 in a friggin' port-a-potty! An ex-girlfriend once ripped up a twenty dollar bill that I had on my dresser because I was being a jerk. Those are total ripoff scenarios! Not this!

Re: Nintendo 64 And Sega Genesis Expansion Pack Announced For Switch Online, Launches This October

BanjoPickles

F'ing sigh:

It's real simple, guys. Vote with your wallets. Personally, I think that $30 a year (I can't see them charging more than an additional $1-2 a month for this) is a steal for all of the content. Those of you who romanticize the Virtual Console? I question whether you were actually there during the Wii/Wii U years. The games were grossly overpriced. "At least I owned them, though!" Nope, you didn't own anything. The second your Wii, or Wii U, takes a permanent dirt nap, those games will be gone.

Please, I want somebody to give me an actual REASON why the NSO is a ripoff that doesn't include the whinery of "it used to be free, so it should have stayed free FOREVER!"

Re: Nintendo Direct To Air Tomorrow, 23rd September

BanjoPickles

@BloodNinja

Oh, yes! I would love to have Rondo on Switch! I'd also love for Konami to adapt the DS trilogy to a single screen configuration.

I wish that Konami would do the right thing and sell the franchise to a developer who could do the series justice. Wayforward, Treasure, etc. Honestly, I think that Castlevania could translate beautifully into a Souls like. Imagine the amazing job From Software could do, if they had the license. They could convert Castlevania into a 3D powerhouse.

Re: Nintendo Direct To Air Tomorrow, 23rd September

BanjoPickles

@AndyRogan

Skies of Arcadia 2?! Man, you're speaking my language! I'd even settle for a remaster, at this point.

One thing that I'm convinced we'll be seeing tomorrow, based on Nintendo's facebook/twitter posts: Metroid Zero Mission. They posted a picture of the cover art yesterday, and they posted a picture of the Chozo ruins last week. I think it'd make sense for them to add GBA to NSO.

Re: Nintendo Direct To Air Tomorrow, 23rd September

BanjoPickles

@BloodNinja

Man, what I wouldn't give to not only see Dark Souls II released on Switch, but I'm now convinced that Switch could actually handle III as well.

Honestly, I'm up to my elbows in games to play, but what I would love to see (realistically):

-Final Fantasy 1-6 (I think the timing is right)
-Castlevania Anniversary Collection 2: Advanced Collection
-An unexpected bonus: Symphony of the Night is shadow dropped onto the eshop.
-GBA added to the NSO. A second pricing tier is announced, which raises the cost of online to $25 and includes N64 support.
-More footage from Silksong.
-I would love to see some old point and click games from the 80's/90's: the Monkey Island series, Willy Beamish, Full Throttle, Maniac Mansion, etc.

Re: Grand Theft Auto Remastered Trilogy Reportedly Heading To Switch

BanjoPickles

@0nett

You’re misreading my comments. I’m impressed by many ports—Doom, Witcher III, Dragon Quest XI—but I would honestly be surprised if these ended up being genuine remasters. If they’re nothing more than rom dumps then shame on Rockstar, who have the resources to port GTA V to Switch. If they end up being more than the PS2 ports with a fresh coat of HD paint, then I’ll gladly eat my words. I’m just not going to wave my pompoms at every hackneyed port that is released (*cough Saints Row III, Assassin’s Creed III).

Re: Grand Theft Auto Remastered Trilogy Reportedly Heading To Switch

BanjoPickles

@Magician

I doubt it would see a million in sales at that price. You can buy these games everywhere, and even if they’re remastered, they still can’t hide the fact that these are PS2 games.

Now, GTAV could easily clear a million! If they released that game on Switch, I don’t see why it couldn’t clear 2 million or more.
