Re: SEGA Announces The Mega Drive Mini 2, Boasting 50 Genesis And Mega CD Games

@WaveBoy

Saturn,I believe was a combination of right console at the wrong time and proof that Sega was an absolute mess! If Sega of Japan had actually paid attention to the North American market, they could have alleviated so many of the unnecessary mistakes they made. They stopped supporting the Genesis way too early, they should have stuck with the September release date, they should have worked on the architecture of the console more to help bring the cost down, and they should have chased after a more robust, diverse library. They were banking on Virtua Fighter—an arcade port, and a bad one at that—selling consoles.

I was fourteen when PlayStation launched, and a total Nintendo/Sega fanboy! PlayStation managed to grab my complete and undivided attention, at least until the Dreamcast arrived. I didn’t care for the N64. Maybe I’m in the minority, but I don’t care how good your first party games are. If your third party support is garbage, I won’t support you.

@nightopia

Same! I’ve always wanted to play it, and I missed that golden opportunity to do so when I was a Sega CD owner, during its run. Our local video store even carried it (sadly, the same can’t be said of Snatcher. I looked everywhere, and could never find a copy to rent, or buy).

I’m optimistic. They have released Another World on pretty much every platform, over the past several years. Supposedly, the MD2 will have 20 Sega CD games, so it’s definitely a possibility.

Please let this come to America! I would love to see the lineup look something like this:

1). Road Rash III
2). Sonic 3
3). Sonic and Knuckles
4). Phantasy Star 2
5). Beyond Oasis
6). Donald Duck in Quackshot
7). Toejam and Earl 2
8). Eternal Champions (Sega CD)
9). Final Fight (Sega CD)
10). Streets of Rage III
11). Super Street Fighter II
12). Skitchin’
13). Rocket Knight Adentures
14). Earthworm Jim (Sega CD)
15). Night Trap (Sega CD)
16). Tomcat Alley (Sega CD)
17). Another World/Heart of the Alien (Sega CD)
18). Outrun
19). Columns III
20). Jungle Strike
21). Snatcher (Sega CD)
22). Revenge of Shinobi
23). TMNT: Hyperstone Heist (I would have considered this an impossibility before the Cowabunga Collection was announced. Remember how Contra Hard Corps was released on Mini 1 after the Contra Collection was released?)

Re: Nintendo Says It Wants To Avoid A Repeat Of Wii U With Switch's Successor

@Mynemo

Yes! I haven’t loved a Nintendo console this much since the SNES! The only things I’d like to see are game-related:

-I want to see the Arcade Archives line grow into the 1990’s. Ridge Racer, Tekken, Soul Caliber, Primal Rage (notoriously difficult to properly emulate), etc..

-new entries in long-dormant franchises. It’s time we saw a new Punch Out, F-Zero, Excitebike, Wave Race, etc..

-replace the NSO model for classic gaming with a new and improved Virtual Console. Twenty-one years on, it’s time for Gamecube support! Also, I would love to see support for systems such as the Amiga.

A few tips from a lifelong fan:

-don’t piggyback off of the name to the point where random consumers assume it’s a mere add-on.
-you had a winning idea with the Switch. Do NOT scrap that idea for the sake of trying something new!
-continue to bridge the technological gap.
-you had the support of several great third-party developers. Don’t jeopardize that!
-launch with at least one, or two, must-play games!

Re: New Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 2 Footage Showcases Gnarly Master Sword

BanjoPickles

1). I totally expected it. When has a mainline Zelda game ever launched on time?

2). I’m 100% okay with it. They have given us a wealth of Zelda content, over the past few years. Take your time, and make it special!

3). Considering the five year cycle of development, I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if they delay it again to the Fall of 2023, to launch alongside the inevitable successor to Switch (by that point, Switch will be nearly seven years old). I’d rather have a Zelda for the launch of new hardware than have to wait two to three years into the new console’s life.

Re: Soapbox: Why Can't Nintendo Offer Both Virtual Console And Switch Online?

BanjoPickles

When are people going to realize that they have themselves to blame for all of this? What were the sales figures for the VC? I know that Mario 3 was the biggest success on Wii, with millions of downloads.

Well, not every game is Mario 3 and how many of you downloaded anything that was an obscure third party release? You don’t want the drip feed, but do you know what happens if Nintendo shuts off the drip feed and caters only to your narrow gaming diet? They run out of games they can actually release within weeks/months.

Simply put, I highly doubt the VC model was a very profitable venture for them.

Re: Feature: Is It Worth Importing A Japanese 3DS For These Virtual Console Games?

BanjoPickles

As a huge supporter of VC on 3DS, I was always frustrated with the difference in libraries between America and Japan! Granted, they did get a ton of games that didn’t have English translations, but I couldn’t figure out why Square Enix put Elevator Action, Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy IV, and VI on 3DS in the East but not the west. Kemco released Shadowgate on 3DS in Japan, but we never got it here. I always felt that Nintendo treated the service like an afterthought on the platform, at least in North America.

Re: Nightdive Studios Wants To Remaster Titles Like Eternal Darkness, But Hasn't Had Any Luck With Nintendo

BanjoPickles

There are so many games that are worthy of a rerelease/remaster that will most likely never receive one, including:

-Faxanadu
-Clash at Demonhead
-Maniac Mansion
-Little Nemo
-Willow
-The Adventures of Willy Beamish
-Snatcher
-Lunar 1 and 2
-Suikoden
-Eternal Darkness
-Astro Boy (GBA)
-Ninja 5-0
-Ninja Town
Panzer Dragoon Saga
-Dynamite Cop
-Shining Force 3
-Burning Rangers

Re: Metroid Prime 4 Dev Retro Studios Updates Its Twitter Profile With A New Banner

BanjoPickles

Now that the system is nearly five years old (how is that possible), I’m starting to think that Nintendo should take every franchise that is currently in development, that already has an entry or two on Switch, and move it to the next console. Remember how awesome that first year was, getting a new exclusive/rerelease every month or so? I’d love to see that become a regular thing with Nintendo. Imagine if the next console launches and, within the first year, we get:

-BotW 2
-Splatoon 3
-Metroid Prime 4
-Something Pokémon related
-Xenoblade 3
-Mario Kart 9

That isn’t to say that Nintendo should kill the Switch. That would be stupid. I just think Nintendo should ride out the last few years bringing back franchises and reminding people of their greatness. Resurrect Punch Out, Remake F-Zero GX, Revive Starfox without the gimmicks, bring back Wave Race, Excitebike, 1080! I would love to see a cel shaded Startropics!

Re: Nintendo Direct To Air Tomorrow, Wednesday 9th February 2022

BanjoPickles

I’m going to plead for total long shots:

-The Monkey Island series: remastered versions of every game in the Monkey Island series!
-Collection of Fantasy Volumes 1 and 2: I don’t want the Pixel Perfect junk! I want the original roms, put on two separate compilations. Asking for 1-6 on one cart is expecting too much.
-the announcement of The Capcom Licensed Collection, which includes: Willow (NES), Little Nemo (NES), Mickey Mousecapade (NES), Alien Vs. Predator (arcade), and The Punisher (arcade).
-an out-of-left field announcement that a new Punch Out is on the way, and Punch Out Wii will be added to the eshop.

Re: Poll: So, Do You Think Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 2 Will Actually Release In 2022?

BanjoPickles

I have a feeling that Zelda will be pushed back to meet the launch of the Switch’s successor. By Christmas of 2023, Switch will be more than six and a half years old, so I have a feeling that the next console will launch next year. Honestly, I feel that Nintendo would be smart to make Splatoon 3 and Breath of the Wild 2 launch titles. I understand, though, that not everyone would agree. I just feel that those two games alone would ensure the console’s success.
