I’m beyond stoked for the Saga Collection, which will nicely compliment the Mana Collection. For those who have never played FFL1-3, they’re really fun games!
Other than that? Ugh! I find it ridiculous that Square Enix would release a Kingdom Hearts rhythm game instead of giving Nintendo owners the thing they’ve been asking for for nearly two decades: Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2.
so, how is this newsworthy again? They basically tweeted out an advertisement, and NL is hanging on to the "More to Come" tag? Well, of course there are going to be more games coming! It would be note-worthy if they had said "that's all, folks."
I downloaded Super Punch Out a few days ago. I had played the original, when I was a kid, but I never played the sequel. It was the only Punch Out I hadn’t played.
Now, if only Nintendo would rerelease Punch Out Wii, or give us a new entry. They missed a golden opportunity by not releasing Punch U Out on Wii U.
I hate when sites—including Nintendo Life—claim that a game is retro when the characters are the size of a pinky nail and the game resembles nothing from the past. This, to me, is retro!
That’d be nice. I’ll be honest, my friend. I have had zero interest in Xbox One since it was first announced, but Rare Replay alone almost convinced me to rush out and buy one. It’s sickening to think that if Nintendo had held on to them, the collection would have been OURS!
Then again, apart from Viva Piñata, they haven’t done anything that has been of much interest to me since the sale.
I wish that I could believe that, but there are simply too many things working against it:
1). It would make sense for games such as RC Pro Am, Slalom, and the N64 games to see release, but would games such as Viva Piñata and Grabbed By the Ghoulies be included?
2). What would be the point of MS buying Rare for $270 million only to turn around and give every game from the company’s golden days back to Nintendo?
3). With the upcoming release of Series X, I think that’s where MS’s priorities lie.
4). Would the library be retooled?
5). Would the sales numbers make it worth their while?
I’m going to catch some flak for this, but i have played every entry in the series, except for Color Splash and OK, and I have always found them to be some of the most boring games Nintendo has released. They’re funny, yes, but I’ve never found them to be as fun as they could be.
I snagged Pikmin 3 during the Mario Kart 8 promo, and.....I was underwhelmed. I loved the first two, but I couldn't get into 3. For those who loved it, and have been begging for a port, I'm happy you're finally getting it. Also, I'm happy that Nintendo has one more game that they'll have ready for the holidays. I'm stoked to see what they plan on revealing next.
“We want to reach the mass consumer that doesn’t want to pay a premium for a layer of hardware performance they rarely tap into....”
Oh? And they think that consumers want to pay a premium for an underpowered console? They need to realize that what separates them from Nintendo is that the former still has franchises that are in huge demand. Atari doesn’t have a Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Zelda, Pokémon, Splatoon, Animal Crossing. If you had removed all of those games from the Switch, it would have failed without a trace.
I’m failing to see how this thing is capable of creating a new market in a market that has no need for an alternative.
This thing is going to fail, and fail hard. Also, they are no longer Atari. Atari died when Jack Tramiel took over the company. Actually, you could even make the argument that Atari died when Manny Gerard brought in Ray Kassar and fired Nolan Bushnell.
Honestly, considering that most of the major western and Eastern developers have shown their hands—especially Sony, who had the PS5 showcase, and Microsoft who is about to unveil more info on the XBX—I’m starting to question the reasoning behind Nintendo’s silence. If the pandemic is really affecting their schedule this badly, what is stopping them from beefing up NSO with additional content? At this point, they could add N64 games to soften the blow, which wouldn’t require nearly the manpower as a new AAA release.
Yes! If Nintendo could somehow find a way to rerelease Popeye (is the IP in the public domain yet?), that would cover every pretty much every arcade game Nintendo has done that I would want.
I’d really like to see some Midway action, at some point. Since Kangaroo is a thing, I’m just going to go ahead and ask for the following:
-Tapper -Timber -Smash TV -Robotron 2084 -Defender -Paperboy -Arch Rivals
It’d be nice if Nintendo would actually break their silence. Sony and Microsoft have already shown their hands, as have most of the developers in the industry. After today, what does Nintendo have coming down the pipeline?
Haha! Yessir, and likewise! I got my daughter in on some of the action (she's six, and made it to the second level). Man, playing it took me back! It's so crazy that, just a few weeks ago, I was telling you that I didn't think the game would ever see a rerelease and here we are! Talk about a pleasant surprise! And you're right: the game controls very well on the pro controller.
I'll take this as a lesson that anything is possible.
As cool as it sounds, I don’t think a 3D Mario maker would be nearly as fun as some people might think. Creating levels on a 2D plane is one thing, but I don’t know if I’d want to play crushingly difficult Mario Maker levels in the 3rd dimension. Ha!
It was easily the worst controller of any that I’ve ever held. Honestly; I think that everything about the 5200 was an anomaly: the size of the console, the cords, the lack of a distinct library, the controllers, the oversized carts. It wasn’t a bad console, but it was completely unnecessary. Had they released the 7800 in its place, with a slightly better controller, they may have stood a chance.
I bought a 5200, back in ‘01, because it looked like it had the closest adaptation of it. Even though it didn’t look, or sound, as good, I still had a blast with it.
They’re seriously going to have to show something soon. Once Paper Mario drops, it’s looking pretty barren.
Considering that both Sony and MS have shown their hand, I’m starting to wonder why Nintendo has let so much time lapse without any sort of announcement.
Without question, but they did give WayForward the keys to Contra, and it was amazing! A new Castlevania in 2020 would make sense with the success of the show.
It’s only a matter of weeks before Arcade Archives Kangaroo is released! I can’t wait!
Also, I’m really hoping that the announcement of the Sega mini Arcade (Astro Street? I can’t remember) means that we’ll be seeing the likes of Virtua Fighter, Golden Axe: Revenge of Death Adler and others on Switch.
Oh man, a fully 3D Zelda II Remake would be amazing and probably the closest that Nintendo themselves could get to capturing the same sort of magic that From Software did with Dark Souls.
I could see them creating a vast mythology for Hyrule, and I can almost picture the entire game fleshed out in three dimensions! I know it’ll never happen, but Zelda II was a great game held back by limitations.
Sega has such a rich arcade history of games that have never seen the light of day outside of the arcade. I really hope the other 26 games dig into some of those.
This actually makes me hopeful that we will see a Virtua Fighter release on Switch. At least they’re acknowledging it, and not rereleasing the awful Genesis/MD port of VF2.
Action 52 and Bible Adventures were unlicensed, yes, but the rest were licensed. Nintendo allowed developers who signed a contract to release five games per year, which wasn't a bad idea, but that still didn't stop companies from releasing garbage games.
Yeah, I miss the good old days when Nintendo never would have allowed games like Action 52, Total Recall, Space Ace, Batman Forever, Terminator 2, Athena, Bible Adventures, Super Pitfall, Pit Fighter, Superman 64, and Carmageddon 64 on their consoles. What ever happened to the days when Nintendo consoles only had good games?
This is seriously the best gaming news I’ve heard in a long time, and an absolute day one!
I told my daughter that pretty soon I want to start having a monthly night at the arcades, where we stay up late and play nothing but old arcade classics. The only thing I need to do is beef up my Neo Geo collection.
I actually kind of wish that they would do something similar to what Microsoft did several years ago. I forget what the service was called, and it was far from perfect, but you could visit a virtual online arcade, play with people from around the world, and you had the option to either play the old fashioned way with virtual currency or simply buy the games outright. I would love to have a virtual room where I could set the arcades up. Better yet, it’d be cool to be able to integrate that concept into Animal Crossing and have an arcade in your basement where you could invite friends to your island to play arcade games.
Btw, I don’t know if you’re a fan of the Kunio game’s, but the Double Dragon and Kunio Collection is currently half off on the NA eshop! I snagged it up immediately.
Omg! Yes! Between this and Super Punch Out, I am so close to having every classic arcade game I’ve ever wanted!
Stupid question, but I do know that Popeye is in the public domain in Europe. If that’s the case, I would assume that it would make things easier on Nintendo. I can’t find any info on the status of Popeye in the states, though. Man, I would love to see a Popeye rerelease!

At this point, Nintendo fans are going to develop unrealistic expectations that Nintendo will be unable to meet.

They had eight minutes. They dedicated part of it to a piece of crap like Chibi WWE. Sorry, that’s really digging deep for something to show.
