Re: Video: Pokémon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl's Launch Trailer Is Here

AstralSoul

So I have no qualms with the gameplay. I mean it's Pokemon it's hard to screw that up. But it cannot be understated how much I loathe the art style. I didn't like it when I first saw it but seeing in motion in person makes me absolutely hate it. This is by far the worst looking mainline Pokemon game, remake or not. I mean the chibi style, in battle it looks fine, and baffles me why they didn't do something like Sword/Shield or the Let's Go games. Graphics aren't everything and I'm still loving the game but the art style is truly bad.

Re: Review: Dusk - An Incredible Port Of 2018's Quake-Inspired Boomer Shooter

AstralSoul

I am not the biggest fan of FPSs but Dusk is one of the best FPSs I've ever played. It's right up there with Doom, Quake, and Wolfenstein 3D. Okay yeah those are all super old games but that's what Dusk is emulating and it does it perfectly. I might even say I prefer Dusk to all of those. Absolutely stellar game. I own it on Steam but I'm probably going to rebuy it on Switch because it's really that good.

Re: Random: Forget Dread, It's All About Metroid: Other M On Twitter Right Now

AstralSoul

I've always liked Other M and I've seriously never understood the hate it got. It's not my favorite Metroid, not by a long shot, but I always liked it a lot

I always hate it when people blindly bash a game for years and years then suddenly everyone loves it. It's almost like one person played it, hated it and everyone else hadn't even played it but just assumed it was bad because one person said it was, then one day everyone starts actually playing it and realizes it's actually good.

Re: Poll: What Do You Think Of The Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack Price?

AstralSoul

Reasonable to me because people seem to forget how cheap $20/year for the regular NSO is. How much is PS4 online, $60 a year or $9.99 a month? To me that's unreasonable. $50 a year for N64 games is a no brainer for me. I sub to PS4 online and I get almost nothing of value out of it. I never play the games that you get with it, and I never play online on PS4. I mean yes cheaper is always better but everyone always wants everything for free. I will happily be paying and playing N64 and Genesis games.

Re: Best Metroid Games Of All Time

AstralSoul

I'll go on record and say I actually loved Other M and Federation Force wasn't all that bad. That said, I'm team Zero Mission all day though I can't say I dislike any of the Metroid games.

Re: Poll: What's The Best Dragon Quest Game?

AstralSoul

Of the ones I've played...
1. VIII
2. XI
3. IX
4. V
5. IV
6. VII
7. II
8. I

Still need to play III, VI, and X (the latter will probably never happen.) If Builders was included I might have put that because I actually love those games.

Anything creation related like this and Mario Maker.... my 15 year old self would've LOVED. But as an adult with a family and 2 jobs, I just don't have time and dedication to create anything worthwhile. The repressed creator in me still kind of wants this game, but like Mario Maker I'll probably dabble with it for a few days then leave it to collect dust on a shelf. That said I think it's awesome that Nintendo has been giving people creation tools. Like I said if I was 15 this would be heaven but when I was 15 the most creative thing we had was Mario Paint...

Re: Video: Why Do We Buy And Collect Retro Video Games?

AstralSoul

Partly nostalgia. Partly because I genuinely believe games were mostly better back then. Partly because owning a physical cartridge means I can play it forever whereas newer consoles are ticking time bombs. And the further we get away from physical media the more I will go back to the old stuff. Knowing that when my PS3 and PS4 console batteries die the games, both physical and digital, will become completely unplayable, just makes me not even want any new console anymore. My NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, PS1 and PS2 are all going strong and have never failed me. No hour long downloads to update. No fear that these games might not work in 10+ years. And the libraries of these old consoles are so deep end so enjoyable still to this day that I could stop buying all new games and still be a happy gamer for the rest of my life.

Re: Video: Ten 3DS Exclusives That Could Be Better On Nintendo Switch

AstralSoul

If any 3DS game deserves a second life on Switch, it's Kid Icarus Uprising. The game is phenomenal but the control scheme severely limited my enjoyment of it. It's extremely well made and if they pushed it and made a sequel or marketed the series more it could be big just like Fire Emblem went from barely existing to hugely popular outside if Japan. Kid Icarus Uprising was a 10/10 game with a 5/10 control scheme. It worked but it was very uncomfortable and that alone made me not want to play the game. Even though I did play it because the content was really that good. An HD port with a fixed control scheme would make it a masterpiece.
