@GannonBanned Yes true! But not having ANY Mortal Kombat available to vote for is a bit odd considering the game was massive back in the day. Let the people decide!
Leaving the series out to graze like this is shameful. F-Zero X is probably my all time favourite arcade racing game, it's close to perfection. Even a remaster of X with online multiplayer added would blow people away, even today.
Me and my friends were really into Mortal Kombat in the 90's and we can't even vote for Mortal Kombat 2! Yet we can vote for every single Street Fighter ever released on the SNES! Why?!
As others have mentioned there are plenty of other good games that couldn't be voted for either, such as Micro Machines 2. Makes the 'Poll' a bit meaningless IMO.
I'm not sure why this is seen as good news. It's another nail in the coffin of the UK's once vibrant game industry.
Rare, Psygnosis, Eidos/ Core Design, DMA Design (among many others) and now Codemasters have all been absorbed into foreign multinationals and are a shadow of their former selves, if not disbanded completely.
@kobashi100 You still miss my point. My problem is with the review skirting around the issue of this new business model. Usually Nintendo Life are vociferous when they believe a product offers bad value or represents dubious business practice but they weren't on this occasion for some reason. I had come to expect better and it does make me question their integrity somewhat.
@kobashi100
You presume to know what I think.
If people rent a game at this price in sufficient numbers, we will continue to get ripped off.
Nintendo Life should be looking out for it's readers and pressuring unscrupulous companies such as this to treat consumers fairly. Instead they have barely given the high rental price a mention, let alone reflecting it in the conclusion or the score.
Yes I do hope very few are suckered into renting a game for £35. That way consumers will get treated more fairly further down the line.
@kobashi100 Are you suggesting that the price of a game shouldn't be taken into account in a review? £35 just to rent a game is a rip off by any standard. I frequently see the cost of a game being considered in Nintendo Life reviews but not in this one. Why should this game be any different?
I am shocked that Nintendo Life have wholeheartedly endorsed this game when it costs £35 just to rent it. However well this runs or how much of a technical marvel it is, it's a rip off, plain and simple. I expected better of NL and if consumers don't call out this behaviour now, what hope do we have going forward? Vote with your wallets people.
It's good to see that Nintendo Life are still prepared to call out Nintendo when necessary and maintain their own integrity. It felt like they were towing the corporate line a bit too much during the run up to the games release. Great video!
Hope they manage to sort out the terrible lag on some of the moves from the first one. There were also some grating mistakes made by the voice actors in this, where they didn't seem to read their script properly or understand the game at all. It's one of those things that you just can't unhear.
@Daniel36 I was playing Asphalt 9 the other day without it. Some of the best multiplayer games don't need it at all; Warface, Rocket League (From Friday), World of Tanks etc
The list of free to play online games keeps getting better and better. Two of the games I play the most are already free to play (Warface and Paladins). If you can put up with Mario Kart 7 instead of 8, there's not much reason to bother with NSO unless you're still playing Splatoon or Smash online.
I hate to say it but this is another shady and anti-competitive move by Nintendo.
Like the article states, my £44.95 pre-order at Base has been cancelled due to ‘under allocation’ by Nintendo. A similar thing has happened to pre orders at Shop-to who had the game for £42.85.
Minimum Retail Prices (MRP’s) are illegal in the UK (and most of Europe I believe) as they are seen as anti-competitive. Manufacturers are not allowed to control a market.
Yet by forcing consumers to use either the Nintendo UK store or Amazon, Nintendo are effectively trying to do just that.
It’s telling that I can still make a pre-order with Amazon at £49.99 isn’t it? No ‘under allocation’ issues there…
This is the second instance of Nintendo acting anti-competitively this year, with the removal of game download vouchers from retail stores also being an attempt to price fix in the UK market.
I was prepared to give Nintendo the benefit of the doubt regarding the limited time release of 3D All Stars but now see the move for what it really is.
I won’t be reordering the game on principle and for the first time in my life am considering using an emulator such as Dolphin to play these games.
It almost makes me hope that the Switches successor is a massive Wii U sized flop.

@NEStalgia Statistically the world has never been more affluent than it is now (Pandemic notwithstanding) and poverty has never been less. Think about how many 'things' you have in your home today compared to your childhood, assuming you are an adult. To argue that overall disposable income is less today than the 1980's is wrong, whatever the country. If I think back to my childhood in the 1980's, we had one telephone and one TV in the whole house. Nowadays it is normal for many to have a smartphone, tablet/ laptop and multiple other unnecessary consumer goods PER PERSON! I think that you are perhaps confusing this with disparity in wealth, which had definitely grown since 1983. Also if you look at the inflation adjusted price of consoles and games back then, it's a wonder that many people at all could afford them.
Adding in the fact that people are generally much more affluent now than in the 1980's and that the world population is much greater (4.6 bn in 1983 vs 7.5 bn in 2017), makes the NES's numbers even more impressive.
@Duc The official dock doesn't block either air intake; have a look closely and you will see a channel on the top of the USB/HDMI ports.
Ventilation is very important in docked mode as the clock speed is higher and the switch relies on the internal fan being able to run faster when attached to mains power.
Without this the system will either fry or more likely hit a thermal limit and go into some kind of limp mode. I wouldn't want to risk banking on the latter happening though...
Running the switch in docked mode while obscuring the cooling intakes on the back is a really bad idea. There's a reason the official dock is designed the way it is.
Consumers should be up in arms about this. It's all about Nintendo taking a bigger cut and eventually having complete control. Digital games are already massively overpriced compared to physical. You pay more for digital and Nintendo get more per sale, yet you can't lend to a friend, use a single copy between multiple consoles in a household or sell it on if you don't like or have completed the game. You essentially have fewer rights over your purchase yet pay more. The future being pushed by publishers is all digital and if/ when that's allowed to happen, Nintendo will have complete control over pricing and therefore the market. Use your heads and don't let this happen people:) Very cynical move by Nintendo.

Nintendo UK fixed my March 2017 Joy-Con for free just a couple of months ago. They provided a free postage label once I'd registered the repair on their website so it didn't cost me a penny.
Still should never have happened though and those 10 days without them seemed like forever.
