Joining the seemingly endless amount of data flooding in this morning thanks to Nintendo's financial report, it has been confirmed that Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 01: Variety Kit has now surpassed the one million sales mark.
Labo has been an intriguing release right from the start - not just because of its creativity from a gameplay perspective, but also as a new venture for Nintendo itself. Being a Nintendo release, we're sure many fans of the company have snapped up a kit or two to see what it's all about, but Labo has always been seen as a product for the non-gaming audience in Nintendo's eyes.
As such, comparing its sales figures to other Nintendo games might not be ideal. Other major Switch games, like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, dwarf the cardboard curiosity's sales totals, but they aren't fighting in the same ring. Nintendo hopes that Labo will grow as its own platform, selling "for a very long time at a very steady pace".
The Labo Variety Kit (Toy-Con 1) has sold 1.09 million units to date. Sadly, Nintendo has not released data for Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 02: Robot Kit or Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 03: Vehicle Kit.
Do you think Labo will continue to grow as Nintendo hopes, or would you consider this figure to be a slight disappointment? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.

Wow
Never expected LABO can be so popular. 😃
Keep going with LABO, Nintendo. 🤓
It was already over 1m last quarter
Labo VR is really really good. So much fun to build and use. A really joyful experience.
Who would be dumb enough to pay this much for cardboard? Oh that right, me! And I regret nothing!
Labo is brilliant, and even if I never play much with it, I love the building part and concept. I actually preferred kit 1 to VR, which makes me a little sick after 10 minutes (but the bazooka is awesome).
@chardir that was for a combined total for all labo i think
@Rhaoulos it isn't just cardboard honestly. I never really understood it until I learned it was VR and different games, especially the shooter variety (I liked police 911 though this won't give me that level of workout). PC and PS4/XBOne cannot emulate this. Thanks for mentioning there are different kits to look at. It can easily appeal to non-gamers as the wii did with sports/fit.

I'm tempted to try the VR kit, but ultimately, I'm not really fussed on Labo. I'm betting that they were hoping on selling way more than 1m.
They made bank selling cardboard and a bit of software, and this is only one kit. With that considered, I think it’s hard to call that “underwhelming” imo.
@Rhaoulos if the building part is what got you. Why not just buy a lego, gunpla or any other buildable models?
I enjoyed building the goggles and blastamaster with the kids. Games not so much but the kids love it and I can experience new content from zelda and Mario
I'm going to get the VR kit sooner or later. From what I've played, Labo kits 01 and 02 are fantastic!
Nothing selling a million is to be scoffed at.
1 million is a lot. Considering this is niche product that's not expected to sell to the masses like Super Mario Odyssey.
And while the price might seems to be much. This is more than cardboard. The software and development cost should be pretty expensive. How they get those cardboard to interact with the Switch takes a lot of imagination.
I doubt this is a big money maker for the big N. It's more like a side project that brings the fun side from their programmers/developers.
I've really enjoyed Labo so far (have all kits). Heck, last night after work I sat and played the VR bird game for a good 45 minutes, even tossed in the wind pedal for fun. And the Garage modes are a blast.
As long as it keeps rattling neckbeards, I hope they keep coming out with new sets.
I am not really sure what Nintendo's strategy is for Labo. I feel like it has a lot of untapped potential if Nintendo makes a few changes to their strategy. I don't know what those changes should be though.
Underwhelming?!? 1,000,000+ sales for a $70 box of cardboard. How is that underwhelming? I'm sure Nintendo's pleased.
Sure they have.... LABO has gone on sale 2 times already in the US this year. And Walmart basically gave up and trying to sell all of them for $39 full time. Amazon does not even restock them anymore.
I expect Labo VR will end up selling the most of all the kits.
