Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct?

@zool LOL get your facts straight (I see you struggle there).

"For us non Smash gamers, it's just another long wait until something comes out that should have been here already."
"Because you are happy to play anything, then I am not speaking for you. It is presumptuous of you to think I was."
So who presumptuous here? Again get your story right.

"there are very few new physical Nintendo AAA games being released this year."
Define very few new physical Nintendo AAA games.

@zool "maybe my logic is OK and its your understanding😊." Sure... the problem isn't you it's the world's.

"Nintendo has played their cards up to the end of this year and another 5 years of life left in the Switch."
What is played their cards? Announcing games that won't be released in 3 years or maybe in current console cycle like MS and Sony? No thanks.
Focus of the present and you'll be much more happy person. Play games that exist because you sure can't play what isn't out yet.

@zool "For us non Smash gamers, it's just another long wait until something comes out that should have been here already." Speak for yourself and don't generalize please. There are plenty of games releasing each week if those don't interest you that's an entire different issue.
Self entitlement runs strong?

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct?

@zool "Nintendo seem to have played all their big cards at once, Zelda, Mario, Smash, Pokemon, Party, Tennis, Mario Kart, Splatoon etc." Are you ok? 4 of those were release during 2017, 1 was released a couple months ago and 3 are yet to be released. I struggle with "all their big cards at once" when in fact this covers March 2017 up to December 2018.
Your logic escapes me.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Nintendo Direct Coming November 7th

tangram

When it rains it pours. Too many great games to play too little time available :/
Already have 5 games in the Switch's backlog, unfortunately Xenoblade 2 will have to wait until I can clear BOTW + DLC, SMO and Mario+Rabbids.
How ironic that the single game that hyped me the most from the Nintendo Switch Presentation will have to wait his turn? Not fair.

Re: Treasure's Masato Maegawa Wants Sega To Make A Mega Drive Mini

@bolt05 I too had a MD and 99,99% of my friends did too which allowed for weekends in where we'd have 3-4 games borrowed (by brother also had a nice network). Though there were nice games for MD the truth is that there were greater games on SNES in all fields except maybe sports games.

Re: EA Says It's Still Too Early To Judge Demand For More Games On Switch

tangram

Of course they’re disappointed with FIFA sales but can only blame themselves on having a rushed port out instead of adding Switch support to their newer engine.

Also the Nintendo online needs to improve will all the difficulties in inviting friends.

Both things combined... and FIFA didn’t sell as well as they expected. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure this out.

Re: Treasure's Masato Maegawa Wants Sega To Make A Mega Drive Mini

tangram

@bolt05 Though it did have some superior versions like you mentioned and some classic like Sonic 1, Streets of Rage 2 and SF2 it's catalog simply wasn't as good as SNES.

And this coming from someone that owned a MD and played over 150 (I jolted down the games I played in a paper... yeah kids) of its PAL games.

Re: Camelot Software Boss Is Keen To Make Shining Force IV A Reality

tangram

Shining Force 2 for me had a huge problem for me: it was too addictive And this coming from someone who don't care much for SRPGs.

Played for the last times 4 years ago and it simply amazing how the game is still so good. Timeless much like ALTP.

Sometimes I just find myself wishing that Nintendo had bought SEGA way back when it exited the console market. So many great IPs that were abandoned or deserved more (SF, Sonic, Shinobi, Alex Kidd, Golden Axe, Jet Set Radio, PS, Shenume, Skies of Arcadia, Streets of Rage, etc).

Re: Miyamoto on Bringing Back the “Old” Style of Mario, Exploring New Art Styles

tangram

@Sciqueen That's the perfect adjective to describe how I feel about the Mario design in the "New" series: plastic looking. It feels out of place and bland.

From SMB up to SMW Mario's design kept changing in a positive way with each iteration. And not only the character design but also the setting evolved (SMB > SMB2), Mario gaining tons of powers (SMB3 and SMW), maps got way more intricate (SMB3 and SMW), Yoshi was introduced (SMW) and playable characters were added (SMB2). The series was always fresh.

"New" series feels like the assets are re-used ad eternum.

Re: Miyamoto on Bringing Back the “Old” Style of Mario, Exploring New Art Styles

tangram

@gaga64 New Super Luigi U for Wii U and New Super Mario Bros. U both for Wii U, New Super Mario Bros. 2 for 3DS game and Super Mario Run don't ring a bell?

Too much too soon of the same design. Also the Mario design of the New series is crappy when compared with the charm of SMB3 and SMW design. Super Mario Maker made that quite clear: the stages based on design from SMB3 and SMW are way nicer.

Re: Miyamoto on Bringing Back the “Old” Style of Mario, Exploring New Art Styles

tangram

The Mario design "New" series of SMB was welcomed in the DS era nowadays not so much. It feels wrong and overused by using the same design in Wii, Wii U, 3DS and mobile. Too much, too soon.

In retrospective SMB design was revamped in SMB2 which in turn was revamped in SMB3 and in SMW a new design was added. All have different designs and in all Mario changes. Since 2006 we're stuck with the same design.

The only exception was Super Mario Maker where oddly (?) enough the "New" Mario is the crappiest.

Go back and re-imagine. Change. Bring freshness.

Re: Yoshiaki Koizumi Says Non-Traditional Nintendo IPs Are Bound For Switch Next Year

tangram

I think F-Zero is in everyone's mind... hope that its in Nintendo's also. In terms of old IP, personally I'd love Wario and Donkey Kong Country moves into 3D.

Having said that as much as I like the idea of revisiting IPs new IPs are a must: they deliver the image of a forward thinking Nintendo shaping the landscape.

Splatoon and ARMS did this extremely well in recently and I hope to see Nintendo re-shaping genres.

Splatoon reshaped shooters, ARMS fighters, BOTW action RPGs, SMO 3D platforms... hope to see Nintendo re-imagine other genres as well.
