Just recently we shared a reminder about the OJO, a portable projector being plugged as an ideal solution for the Nintendo Switch. It's setup to function as a Switch dock, though it can work with other devices too, and the idea is sure to be tempting to some.
Well, the Indiegogo campaign is now live - it has a limited run 'Super Early Bird' option (200 units) at $269USD for shipping before the end of the year, and then an 'Early Bird' option (500 units) at $299USD for early 2018; both are still available at the time of publication. It seems the recommended price outside of the campaign will be $369USD.
You can see the pitch video below.
Also, here's the spec sheet put forward by the company.
Of course this isn't the only option out there and opinion is divided on the technology on offer (and even the veracity of all the images on the campaign page); this one primarily pitches itself as a dock and designed with the Switch in mind.
Naturally everyone backs crowdfunding campaigns at their own risk, as there's little guarantee that the product will meet expectations. There have been success stories, but recent controversies such as those with SFANS remind us that they can also go wrong.
It'll be interesting to see how this one turns out - does the idea tempt you?

854 x 480 = Pass.
considering the specs and the idea of docking the console into a heating device, this indiegogo is totally stupid
Good idea in theory, but one with many limitations, challenges and a questionable price.
I'm good.
This is severely under-specced - This video clearly explains why:

The lowest acceptable Lumens they mention is 1500 - and 800p resolution too!
480p? 200L? other specs?.. agreed with @JHDK it's a pass.
Pitty about the resolution :/
If it were full HD I'd definitely get one especially given the fact that it has a 4h battery.
Who buys a pico for gaming anyway?
The marketing is very slick. . . It seems to be their biggest spend. . .
A good projector is :
2000 lumens
contrast ratio 15000:1
resolution 1080p
So here, we are far away from something descent !
@VyseN i have a phillips Pico for gaming because I travel a lot! My pico is 350 Lumens and a genuine 720p -Contrast is 10,000:1 battery life is 2 hrs max. Even the image is still a little fuzzy on this ÂŁ400 projector.
I now have a chinese switch mini dock for ÂŁ26 - so I can do everything this OJO can do but at a much higher resolution and a much higher brightness - 350 lumens is not suitable for a room lit by dimmed lightbulbs - you need to play in the dark ideally.
Nope, I was excited for this even with the lower specs. Not for that price though, not even the "super early bird". Disappointing.
For $300 I think you'd be better off buying a 2nd Switch. Or a 50" 1080p tv.
In that image it looks like this would block the air vents on the back of the Switch while simultaneously heating up the Switch by sitting it next to a hot bulb. Hmm...
I could see this selling if the Switch, ya know, wasn’t a Switch.
Ha Ha Ha! Another Switch projector fail!
200 Lumens: FAIL!
480p: FAIL!
For nearly 300 bucks I can just buy a 1080p projector with HDMI support and much higher lumens spec.
Don't forget the contrast ratio all of you guys !
If you have 2000 lumens but a contrast of 500:1 it's still garbage although you have a good brightness.
Would anyone seriously want to lower the resolution of their Switch library? That seems like a failed product right away.
@Sopota
This was one of my main concerns. Aside from the ridiculously low brightness and resolution, an 11,000 RPM fan AND a 7000 RPM fan will no doubt result in this thing sounding like a hairdryer.
With that monies, your better of buying a new tv
This concept desperately needs some of Nintendo's R&D magic.
IMO, Indiegogo is the worst funding site that I know of since it has to pay ahead of time, no matter if you are "guaranteed" to get your money back if it fails. That guarantee is 100% on the people running the indiegogo campaign, if they don't want too or can't give it back, everyone is SOL.
Kickstarter is great because of the fact that the campaigners do not have your money at all unless its successfully funded. I have backed a few projects on Kickstarter that I canceled my pledge for cause I did not like what it was turning out to be.
Also a projector with these specs I would only pay a max of like $60 for.
200 lumens has me worried. Also, because it’s a crowdfunded project, I would expect the super early bird special to be more than $100 off.
Brilliant idea but needs more oomph in the specs, especially for that price. If Nintendo did this right by themselves, I'm sure there would be a nice niche market for it.
200 lumens? 480p? Might as well just stick the switch on it’s stand and make everyone crowd around it.
Those people sure are happy. And what was up with the car stunts at the end?!
That might be the worst resolution and lumens I have ever seen on a projector
The Marketing pictures have been carefully set up and photoshopped etc. . .
Because that is what you want in the 4K era... 480p with dull 200lum projection gaming. We have mini projectors at work and the fans rev up after 15 min. 7600 RPM fan will be like a hovercraft.
Oh yes i want to pay the price of a switch+pro controller for a projector with unimpressive specs and will overheat my switch by covering up the vents. I'll pass
Eck! overpriced junk.
I like the idea of a Switch Dock Projector, buy this kinda looks like a piece of junk to me. Why would they need to do a second fan for the switch? It docked into the projector, so how will it cool down the switch? To prevent the switch from overheating in the OJO sounds a little too much, especially since you should really need one fan. One fan to keep the OJO cool down will help prevent the Switch to overheat from the projector.
Clearly too much was done. If Nintendo did a projector, I am sure it will turn out a lot better.
200 lumens!? You can only play this at a vampire's home, I'm afraid.
I am shocked they are about to hit their target. They are only about $600 away.
200 lumens, lol what?
Besides the fact that the specs are garbage, strapping a projector bulb to a switch is just a dumb idea.
I bought the thing - not because I want super crisp brightness or high resolution,
But rather because I want a a portable and versatile tool that can allow me to setup a switch very fast all around campus - especially at night. It seems to advertise that it can get the job done.
Trash trash trash 200 lumes is trash and every spec that this device has wont be buying
@theultimateabsol The advertising seems photoshopped. Good luck. I agree it's a great idea but the specs are truly awful /cheap Chinese parts awful..... Also, the lead guy on this project has F*** written across his t shirt lol. Respectful
"So the only questions that's left to ask is"
I just threw up in my mouth a little.
