Re: Nintendo's Investors Are Reportedly "Spooked" As Stock Slides

squidmantle

I think Nintendo is a victim of their own success. I have a massive backlog of Switch games that I've already bought and that I know I'm gonna love, and that are gonna require 40+ hours for me to beat. I could probably spend the entire Switch 2 generation just playing those games, plus replaying my favorites, without getting bored, especially considering that I don't have a ton of time to game these days. If the Switch 2 were a great bargain, I might buy it anyway, but when you add up the console price, the pro controller price, and the SD card price, you end up well beyond the bargain zone — you actually end up pretty close to a PS5 Pro price, when that console is on sale for $100 off like it was this past fall here in the United States. So, I probably won't buy a Switch 2 until Nintendo 2 releases a game that I just can't live without, a la BotW, which is the game that compelled me to buy my original Switch.

This was such a well-done remaster. The quality-of-life enhancements and the tastefully-redone visuals really add to the experience, and then you have the option of playing the original version (more or less), too. I actually think the way they redid the original pixels in the enhanced version with a kind of paint-on-canvas layer is maybe even more visually appealing to me than HD-2D, and definitely better than the smoothed-over sprites in the Tactics Ogre remaster.

Re: Poll: So, Did You Get Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 For Switch?

squidmantle

I got the physical version on Day 1. Yeah, it's expensive, but I never had a a Wii, so I'd been wanting to play these for a while. For me, $65 (including a GameStop coupon) was worth it for two classics I was confident I'd enjoy. I'm a sucker for re-releases of classic games, but in the end, I also feel like it's money well spent.

Re: Poll: Three Months In, How Would You Rate Switch 2's Library So Far?

I'm still waiting on a game that will compel me to buy a Switch 2 — neither Mario Kart nor Donkey Kong are that game, for me. When I bought a Switch on 2020, it was for Breath of the Wild — I just had to play that game. I'm waiting on a Switch 2 game that makes me feel that way when I read about it or watch videos of it

Re: Review: Front Mission 3: Remake (Switch) - Didn't Get The Love & Time This Tactical RPG Deserved

squidmantle

@Drnsnsr I agree. I haven’t played Front Mission 3, or any of the other games in the series, but I know that FM3 always pops up on modern lists of the inner-circle best tactical RPGs of all time, so I’m having a hard time understanding how it could be held in such high esteem if its core gameplay mechanics are so unsatisfying. I wonder if this reviewer was the right reviewer for this game.

Re: Front Mission 3: Remake Appears To Replace 2D Art Assets With Generative AI

Man, I'd been looking forward to getting this game since it was announced. I love tactical RPGs, and the Switch is set to have three of the true inner-circle classics of the genre: Tactics Ogre, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Front Mission 3. It looks like I'll have to give this one a pass, though. The animations in the most recent gameplay reveal already looked awful. It's a shame that Forever Entertainment botched this one.

Re: Best Mario Sports Games Of All Time

I never played the sequel, but I put a ton of hours into Mario Superstar Baseball. Its baseball physics and the feeling of making contact with the ball were both surprisingly solid and satisfying. The only other baseball game that I've ever found to be as satisfying to play is MLB Power Pros 2008. Both series need to be brought back (to the West, in the case of the latter)!

Re: 'Power Stone' Is Coming To Switch In 'Capcom Fighting Collection 2'

squidmantle

Woooow. I can't believe they're actually releasing this. Power Stone and Project Justice on modern consoles seemed like a pie in the sky fantasy to me. I'll pre-order this as soon as I can. I'm more pumped for this than I have been for any re-release in as long as I can remember. I love how Capcom has been showing the love to their fans recently. They've got my respect and appreciation.

Re: Sega's Gamescom 2024 Line Up Includes 'Global Premier' Of Unannounced Project

@msvt I'm thinking that's what the big unannounced game is. The Electric Underground has suggested that the VF5 remake (where Sega remade the game in the Yakuza engine) was intended to get Sega's current devs the experience they needed to build a new VF game, also utilizing the Yakuza engine. Check out The Electric Underground's video from yesterday on YouTube, if you haven't yet: https://youtu.be/eEpi1ZnilrY?si=ELXU2ac4qMKxMSVk
