XSEED Games has revealed its latest release Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town has become its fastest-selling title to reach 100,000 sales on a single platform in North America.
Gematsu reached out to XSEED, and was told it was the Nintendo Switch version that achieved this milestone. The previous record-holder was Story of Seasons for 3DS.
In our review, we gave this game eight out of ten stars and said it deserved a spot in your Switch library:
Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town offers up a perfectly satisfying and simple take on the farm sim genre. Heartwarming character interactions, easy to grasp farming mechanics, and a nice variety of side activities prove to make this release a potent and worthwhile entry in this long-running series.
XSEED has also confirmed Rune Factory 4 Special has now surpassed 100,000 sales in North America, after less than five months. Have you added either - or both - of these games to your Switch collection yet? Tell us down below.

Maybe they'll notice remakes sell and give us 64 too! That'd be awesome.
That is wonderful news! Lovely games, both SoS:FoMT and RF4S.
Wow, that was fast. 😀
I wonder if Marvelous will make new Bokujou Monogatari without 10 minutes in game every 6 seconds in real life.
A Wonderful Life was the only one which use 1 minute = 1 second.
And i really appreciate if same gender marriage still being featured on the next series as Taiwan already embraced with Pride community.
I hope this means we will get dlc. :3
I think it's well deserved! I really loved it! And finally, gay marriage! Also, while I understand those that have different opinions about the art direction I do love it and think it suits the game brilliantly!
I never played this game way back on GBA or any of the harvest moon series. But i picked this up on launch day and i'm addicted. I seriously can't put it down. Even my missus is giving me the looks everytime i pick my switch up to play it. I absolutely love this game.
I've been playing it obsessively for the last week. It's so much fun to be back in Mineral Town. The GOAT is back!
Great news, congratulations on the sales success....
That's awesome! Now here's hoping of a remake for the SNES original or HM64.
Picked up RF4 at launch and plan to buy this one soon. Glad to see it started off strong!
It was the same gender marriage that sold it for me, I can finally relate to the protagonist and it feels more personal, so kudos on them! I wanted to support them in that decision
@polterpupp
Once you befriend the sprites and they water crops for you the time gets much easier to manage.
It's a lovely, addictive game. I got it last Friday and at Autumn 22 yr 1. Won a fortune on the horse races, another thing that makes play easier. My character is dating 3 people and on his way to a very diverse harem, heheh. (When I see how far along many over at Fogu are I feel like a slacker.)
The only negatives for me are the lack of real customization of the main character and they took out rival romances. I hate the thought of all the others in town being alone. I know: it's only a game, but still...
@polterpupp Agreed. One thing I love about My Time At Portia is the time speed slider. Making my days nice and long...
The game is alright. A fine distraction. But honestly, lacking the nostalgia for the original, it feels like a more expensive, less featured version of Stardew Valley. Which isn't surprising since this series inspired Stardew.
I'll keep playing it off and on until the next Stardew update drops.
I love it so far. I think it's now my 2nd favorite HM/SoS game behind HM64. That will always be my favorite.
@k8sMum I befriend the sprites early on and don't have lots of crops to water, still I lack time to do most things. Know about the trick to mining and completely forgotten to do it every time I go mining, lol!
I read that we can sell stuff (like food we cook )to Hwang, I don't know how to trigger it, do you know how?
@UnknownReader
When you get 4 or more music friendship notes with Huang it will trigger a cutscene inside Zack's house where Huang announces that you can now sell to him. Gold ore is the fastest way to befriend him. Apples work too, just a bit slower.
@k8sMum Oh Thank You! I think I might have to restart the game, I am only on mid Summer, Only won 1 event the chick fight(?) Did not do the cooking event cos house not upgrade to get kitchen (broke all the time, lol!)
I do love this game, I've been getting the hang of it but I will say that first spring season is almost a write-off. I am happy they added same-sex marriage to the game, I'm currently courting Gray & Brandon but likely going with Gray. Who wouldn't want to marry a cute blacksmith? LOL! I just don't like how quick the time goes in the game, feels even quicker than it does in Stardew Valley. Honestly not sure why they couldn't just let the time run slower, get more done each day or have the ability to relax and play at own speed. These games are supposed to be relaxing but I had the same issue with Stardew, and it didn't become relaxing until several in-game years had passed and most of my day became automated. But in FOMT it's just constant go-go-go-go-go & with the severely limited stamina, it's hard to get anything done (even after getting 3 power berries it's still difficult). That criticism aside though, it's still a cute game with adorable visuals and character interactions & I'm glad I picked it up.
@Heavyarms55
I know I'm in the minority but I find Stardew Valley vastly over rated. I find it boring and just drudgery. I admire the guy for the work he's put in and his updates, but I don't care for the game. Yet I'm loving SosFoMT.
Different strokes and all that.
@UnknownReader give him gifts until you see his event happen where he says he will buy stuff off you (gold ore is best and easiest to find)
@polterpupp
It's suggested that you give the sprites flour, which does work. With little money at the beginning I started giving them honey which renews from the trees almost everyday.
I restarted after playing thru a few days to get the rhythm of the game. It helped me enjoy it more.
@Hjaw123 Yeah, k8sMum told me that earlier so I restarted and now I got 4 musical friendship note from him, but I lost the chance to buy pets from Van cos I have to restart Harvest Goddess gifting, lol! Now I am not too broke, working on upgrading the house then I'll befriend the Bachelors.
For Stardew Valley, I've played till I give what was required to restore the Abandoned House, and I stop playing. It's a fun game, not a WOW factor for me. Just like ACNH is a fun and somewhat pretty game, but the drama (people telling others how they should play what they paid for ) everywhere I see, makes me stop playing now.
I'm willing to bet it's most likely thanks to PeanutButterGamers coverage of the game, with his livestreams and videos. And I'm glad, this game definitely deserves the love
Nice, I gotta pick up that game, I wish I could marry a fat guy, the same sex marriage thing is great, I think fat men are cute, but sadly probably none to marry in this game
Very excited to see this! I remember buying the original GBA version with my hard earned chore cash back in the day. This game deserves the love!
@k8sMum I can't remotely understand where you are coming from at all.
But that's fine. You do you.
@Heavyarms55
It's not a complex concept, not liking something someone else likes.
But thanks for your permission to be me. Much appreciated, lol.
@k8sMum It's not about "permission" bro. You always have that. It's about understanding. I don't understand how you could like this game more than Stardew. And all I meant was that I don't have to understand why.
@Eel You do know that Harvest Moon 64 and Harvest Moon Back to Nature are practically the exact same game with some very minor differences, right? Friends of Mineral Town **is** a remake of Harvest Moon 64.
@WarpstarCardia
It’s easy to look at both games, see they reused character designs, and think “same game”... But the truth is they’re quite different.
It's kinda like going from Ocarina of Time to Majora's Mask.
@UnknownReader I don't believe the 100 is in a row, I'm stupid forgetful and i got it 😂
As for S.D played that way too much I like the house you can build in the end game mode ☺️ and I don't game with others so I don't get that aha 😅😅
@Eel i would love to have harvest moon 64 remake and also animal parade. hoping they would also return the portraits
