Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order has just received the first of three promised DLC packs set to arrive in the game. Oh, and there’s a free update for everyone who owns the game, too!
This first DLC pack, called ‘DLC Pack 1 - Marvel Knights: Curse of the Vampire’, adds Punisher, Blade, Moon Knight and Morbius as playable characters. There’s also a brand new Gauntlet Mode, where up to four players take on a frenzied series of co-op challenges in rapid succession to earn rewards. Once you've cleared a Gauntlet, you’ll unlock a survival-style version of it with continuous waves of challenges.
As for that free update, new outfits for Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, and Black Panther among others are now available for all players, and you’ll also find more free content like the ‘Nightmare’ story mode which comes with new battle rules.
The game’s DLC packs are only available as part of the game’s expansion pass and sadly cannot be purchased separately. The expansion pass is available from the eShop for $19.99 and grants you access to all three packs as they release.
Are you still enjoying your time with the game? Or has this new content persuaded you to grab the game for the first time? Tell us below.

I have had this since it came out but only put about an hour into it. I will give it another try this week.
I thought these DLC packs would have new missions, what's the point of naming them and giving them a title too if they dont? Should just be Marvel Knights pack, Rus of the vampire sounds like it should be a mission
I might buy the season pass in about 4 weeks. I’m saving up money for a retro game expo first. Everything I don’t spend now is spendable at the expo, everything I don’t spend there can be spend at switch games afterwards.
@MisterWhen Halloween month, everything will have a spooky twist.
I put about 20 hours into this one and loved it, but honestly, I don't see a reason to purchase the expansion just for new characters. Expansions for a game like this need new missions and levels to hold a player's interest. Adding new modes doesn't cut it.
I was super excited about this coming out and had every intention of buying the DLC (Moon Knight! Blade!) but the game just isn't fun. It may be that the game is just aimed at a different kind of gamer than me (none of the "extra modes" look interesting to me in the slightest) but this game was a big disappointment.
Very nice. I love this game and I can't wait for the DLC to roll in.
That Gauntlet mode tho, I may have to buy this game now
Damn...those new outfits for Cap, BP, IronMan and Thor are lit. Also the designs for Blade and Punisher are amazing. I heard there should be story content too.
@NullSaint Have you ever played the other games in the series? Or have played games like Diablo? It's pretty much the same type of gameplay
I think I'll be getting this this week. It was this or Dragon Quest XI, but I'm more of an action gamer at heart no matter how much I try for those long-burn RPGs.
Loved the game. Worth every penny. It's like a Marvel themed Diablo to me.
But why is there no story chapter with this dlc? That's so disappointing. I ll pass this one and hope the next dlc comes with more substance.
This game is SO difficult!
I bought this game expecting a chill Diablo experience playing with my favorite superheroes.
But the difficulty spikes at random and I suppose the devs REALLY liked playing the same Infinty matches over and over to grind levels because it is REQUIRED if you want to finish the story.
I'm torn on this game. I'm having fun rampaging through levels then I get to a boss who stomps my AI companions hard and then finish me off when I slip up a dodge.
This reminds me of playing a Diablo season starting out on Master. You will learn to use the dodge and block button or you will die.
It's not the experience I wanted from the game but I am determined to finish it...someday.
My point is, just set your expectations accordingly. This is a very grindy and unforgiving game despite its looks.
@Zimon you’re not alone there. It is a difficult game and if you don’t stick with the same team then you do have to grind those rifts to level up anyone else you want to try. I love things marvel and liked the previous games. This one can be fun at times and I love the amount of characters we have and trying them out because they’re all pretty distinct. I do miss the old ultimates most of all tho, because I hate that you have to be close to someone to synergize and when you do it’s pretty lackluster, it’s just your ultimate on top of their ultimate, no new animation whatsoever. I like the new cast in the dlc but I was hoping for some additional story as well. I still may pick this up tho.
@Bizzyb Yep, played them (been gaming since the days you had to load them from cassette tapes). The main problems with MUA 3 in my opinion are:
1. I never feel like you are playing a specific hero. Maybe due to the size of the screen, I feel like I'm just button mashing. To compare with Diablo, each class feels distinct, and even each specialization within a class feels distinct. In MUA3, not only do the characters feel the same, even when you "power them up" it doesn't really seem to make a difference
2. The heroes are vastly underpowered. When you trigger the 4-character synergy, it should clear the screen, not cause a few low-level characters to stumble for a moment. Even pumping ISO8, xp cubes and everything else into characters never seems to move their attacks beyond the "wet noodle" phase.
3. The synergies are astoundingly poorly exposed. Considering how important the synergies are to gameplay, there should be simple, obvious ways to see which ones are on your team, or who to add to get specific ones. A team composition to get a 1% boost? That is plainly and easily available. The most important interaction in the entire game? Nah, you don't need to see that. It seems very clear that (like the difficulty) this is an attempt to obfuscate the game in order to stretch out the very limited gameplay.
4. To continue on with the previous point, there is very little guidance as to what a player is expected to do. To my mind, one of the clearest is the Dormammu "break the seal" fight, where there are a few directions shouted at you in the middle of combat with a dozen creatures. That is ridiculous.
It's like the team that made this game normally makes mobile games, heard someone talking about MUA and said, "Hey! Let's make that game!". The first game had the extra comic missions with backgrounds, the trivia quizzes, extra costumes, collectable hunts, PLUS the core store which was huge. To see the difference between these games, go play the MODOK fight from MUA and compare it to the MODOK fight in MUA3.
All in all, I'd get my money back if I could. One of my biggest switch regrets.
@Zimon It's not a breeze for sure, but I found out that you need to upgrade whatever there is to upgrade, I mean literally everything and everybody (incl. computer controlled hero's, give them some stones, you will have many of them in every color).
Without upgrade it takes a dozen retries to beat a boss, with frequent upgrades it takes 2-3 retries for me.
@DAHstroy Gaunlet mode is pretty freaking awesome!!!!
@Frankyjpr Is Gauntlet online too?
@DAHstroy Yes it Is !! sorry for the late reply
