Re: Best Nintendo Switch Games For Kids

norwichred

My little girls were starting to get into video games by the age of 4 and 3. My oldest in particular. She was starting to really love Mario and understand it, and I created her some simple courses in Mario Maker to learn skills on.

Then my wife took them away to another country, and they learnt a different language and I haven't been with them in two years.

They're six and five now and haven't played a video game (apart from the silly Facebook games) since they left.

Re: Nintendo Switch Transfer - How To Transfer All Saves, Games, Profiles, And User Data To Another Switch (OLED, Lite, Regular)

norwichred

OK, I'm currently going through this process from an original launch day switch to an OLED switch and unfortunately the process bears very little resemblance to this guide and is a complete nightmare

Primarily because you HAVE to create a user on the new switch as part of the setup and once you have done, you can't do the transfer process.

There's a thread on the forum about this and I'll post how I did it once I figure it out.

But I haven't yet

Re: GPD Has Plans For Its Own Switch-Style Handheld Device Powered By Android

Why are people hating on this? trust me - GPD know what they’re doing. Yes, their stuff is expensive - but that’s because they’re a small company relying on kickstarter campaigns.

I have an original GPD console and a win max. They are both superb and the Win Max is excellent - even able to emulate the switch with no problems. I’ve just been on an eight hour flight and used the max all the way. I played :

Mario kart DS (DS)
NSMB (DS)
R Type final on PS2
Motor storm on PS3
F Zero GX (GameCube)
NES remix 1 (Wii U).

All on my handheld, six hours of great gaming.

I say again - GPD know what they’re doing.

Re: Gabe Newell: Pricing Valve's Switch-Like Steam Deck Was "Painful"

norwichred

Well, I already have something similar to this in the GPD Win Max and perhaps what people AREN’T saying here - but I will - is that you could probably install a certain program on this machine and play your switch games at greater resolutions than you can on the actual switch.

The same goes for all other Nintendo systems too - without the need for an online subscription.

Now - of course whether you’re happy to do this is up to you. I personally prefer to buy the originals on switch. However at the moment due to personal circumstances I don’t have my switch dock with me. So for skyward sword I bought it on my switch but am currently playing it in 4K on my PC rather than in 720P on the small screen.

Just pointing out that if you were so inclined then the steam machine would still allow you to play your switch games and in better quality.

Re: Soapbox: Could Switch OLED Actually Make A Reality Of Nintendo's Cheesy Tabletop Dream?

norwichred

Well, I’m 51 and need varifocals.

My switch gets loads of use in tabletop mode. I fly a lot so use it then. I’m a teacher and often use it during wet play or after school to challenge my children with four joycons at mario kart tournaments. Also when I’m staying with my wife at her parents, I’d rather use the pro controller with the switch on the table than actual handheld.

The majority of play is docked for sure, but plenty of times it’s table top.

So just because YOU don’t use a console a certain way doesn’t mean it’s not a real world usage situation for others.

Will I upgrade? Difficult one. My eldest daughter is getting close to the point where she will be able to play simple games so I can see a scenario in the next year when I’ll pass my launch day switch to her and upgrade but not immediately.

Re: Nintendo Wins $2.1 Million In Lawsuit Against ROM Website

norwichred

All these people bleating that Nintendo should sell these games, why should they? Let’s use an analogy. Disney.

Disney have a load of original movie content. They adapted a vault policy where they sold them for a little while then withdrew them again.

Now we have Disney+. If everyone out there owned the Blu Rays and the physical media, because the market was flooded with them, and they were dead cheap, would there be any need to pay a Disney+ sub?

If you could go our and buy select SNES and NES games would you subscribed to Switch online?

Nintendo’s bank balance is slightly bigger than mine so I’m assuming they know what they’re doing.

And I’m not entitled enough to bleat on a website that I want them to do something so they should do it.

(Disclaimer, I have pretty much every Nintendo ROM ever available - and many many many others. But I also will always buy the original version when available and subscribe to switch online. I’m not defending a moral position - just making a point)

Re: Site News: After Our Best Year Yet, Things Are Changing Here At Nintendo Life

norwichred

For further clarification :

Kate is excellent, yes.

@ThomasBW84 being back is excellent too. He’s been much missed.

BUT - the site is still crap after the redesign with content easily being missed.

The site still works rubbish on iPads and other mobile devices.

We still have to read endless rubbish on the same topic - Mario being retired?????? Really?

There is still this condescending tone towards the readers which makes visiting here sometimes uncomfortable “all those ‘it was better when Tom was here’ comments”......

Gavin is going to have more control as features editor. So two good bits of news balanced out with a lot of bad,

Re: Video: 11 Great 3DS Games Overshadowed By The Nintendo Switch

norwichred

@isaix @jamesthemagi. It wouldn’t be that difficult at all. I play 3DS games through citra on my handheld GPD Win Max and also through my emulation laptop through my TV.

I scale them up to 2x or 3x resolution and have the option of how, to arrange the screens in any configuration I want. I choose the main screen to take up most of the display with the touch screen on the right, but as I said if needed I can change this.

The games look fine, and much better than the original display in fact, there’s no reason Nintendo couldn’t implement a similar solution.
