The much-anticipated Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass Wave 2 will be officially racing onto Switch on August 4th. Yesterday's announcement revealed which new tracks will be part of the DLC, showcasing both the classic remasters and an entirely new course, Sky-High Sundae.
The reappearing courses in Wave 2 have caught our attention, and the same can be said for YouTube channel GameXplain, which has put together a handy side-by-side comparison of what the new remasters look like next to their previous appearances.
The seven courses all appear next to their original appearance — except for Kalamari Desert, which GameXplain use Mario Kart 7's interpretation. The video shows us gameplay from each retro course alongside footage from yesterday's reveal trailer to demonstrate just how much these courses have been updated.
Aside from an update in graphics, we can't help but notice just how much the game's mechanics have improved as well! Playing Mushroom Gorge with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's smoother glide controls is going to make navigating those flying fungi a whole lot easier.
Take a look at the video below to see just how the courses stack up to their historical appearances!
Which course do you think looks the best? Are there any more that you want to see added? Let us know in the comments below!

Well, at least I still have Mario Kart Wii and 7 so I'm not in hurry to buy the incomplete yet DLC.
Number 9 number 9 number 9

Also, Mario circuit 3 it shows the Mario kart Wii interpretation
Wow, tour actually looks better and is less blurry than 8 deluxe. Weird.
@Zeldawakening It's probably because it's on a focused and smaller mobile screen so pixel density and resolution is probably higher than on Switch.
I really don't know how people are even excited for this (and stuff like GTA V) anymore. There's probably even more frustration and want for a new game.
@thor27 And Waluigi Pinball shows the Tour version
@Ploppy Ziltoid, is that you?
@Axecon cant break something that needed no fixing if you don't make it
Silly video. They should have compared all the courses to the original (first) versions of them.
That music reminded me of something you'd expect to hear in a sonic game
So I was an unfortunate soul that bought this game for Wii U... So if i want it for switch, should I just wait for all the DLC to be released then buy the inevitable full version, or just buy it now and keep getting DLC every few months?
@JimNorman "The seven courses all appear next to their original appearance — except for Kalamari Desert, which GameXplain use Mario Kart 7's interpretation."
You missed two more:
@Jcdbengals Did you buy any of the DLC for 8? Switch version has all of Wii U's DLC bundled in the base game. Switch also has a much larger online presence. If you're still interested in playing, I'd just buy it now, as you can enjoy all the current tracks and have things to look forward to later.
I know this DLC doesn’t have a huge budget attached to it and the price is reflective of that but even then Mario Circuit 3 is a particularly cheap pick to remaster
@Axecon You're not wrong about people wanting Mario Kart 9, but being able to play the Tour tracks on a big screen with a controller (conveniently) and without any gacha elements is a big plus. So is the price of the whole thing, which makes it easy to tolerate.
Some people don't have their Wii or DS or whichever console these old tracks are on anymore and haven't played them in many years. GTA V, on the other hand, has had a constant stream of releases, so not a great comparison there. Plus, I'm sure tons of kids are just getting into Kart now.
Waluigi Pinball is an interesting comparison. The geometry is the same between Mario Kart 8 and Tour, but MK8 uses so much better lighting with bloom on those neon lights (and some changes to textures too). Looks super nice!
@Jcdbengals There was no full version with DLC for Wii U, so why would their be for Switch? The only time I can ever think of Nintendo releasing another physical addition of a game with its DLC was NSMBU + NSLU on Wii U.
@Kilroy thanks for the helpful info. Sounds like I just need to snag it! Appreciate it
@larryisaman I love the SNES tracks. The best of Mario Kart in my Opinion. I love the 90º turns...the narrow tracks...I find it more challenging, and more fun. I don't like the wider tracks with easy turns!
Virtually none of them appear alongside their original appearance as far as I can tell…..
This has to be in response to everyone saying these tracks are just lazy ports from Tour, so they set out to show us the enhanced lighting and textures that clearly took them a little work. Enough work to really matter, I'm not so sure, but it's there.
@Axecon I mean, new does not always mean better. I think it is nice that some companies are continuing to support a game for free and add more value to existing purchases.
