A new ESRB rating has revealed that Disney Classic Games: Aladdin And The Lion King is getting repackaged with a third game, The Jungle Book, and it's coming to Switch.
Released in 1994, The Jungle Book is, of course, based on the 1967 animated movie of the same name, and found its way to a wide range of systems, including the Sega Genesis / Mega Drive, SNES, Game Boy, Game Gear and NES. It was developed by the now-defunct Eurocom and published by Virgin Interactive Entertainment. If this new edition is anything like the original collection, we'll be treated to multiple emulated versions across a few formats.
Rechristened Disney Classic Games Collection, the pack is also coming to Sony and Microsoft platforms, as well as Windows / PC.
When we reviewed the previous iteration of this collection, we said:
Aside from the excellent presentation quality, the years have not been at all kind to these releases, and given the wealth of similar retro content available on the Switch eShop now, it’s tough to recommend that a newcomer pick them up. If you played these games as a kid and want a nice walk down memory lane, this is by far and away the best way you could possibly experience them – and that’s not something to be dismissed out of hand. Bearing that in mind, we’d give this release a light recommendation to those who are willing to shell out some cash for pure nostalgia. If you don’t fall into that camp, you should probably steer clear.
We'd imagine that the same verdict will apply to this updated release, unless you have an unreasonable desire to play The Jungle Book, of course.

I'm in can't wait
Disney Afternoon Collection for Switch... when?
Wake me when that happens.
That's great to hear... now listen up: DISNEY AFTERNOON COLLECTION!
And for those who already bought it?
Now we just need a re-release of Capcom's Aladdin & Goof Troop for SNES, or add Little Mermaid to the Disney Afternoon collection
@HolyGeez03 @RetrovisRabbit Right! Come on Disney, Capcom, and Nintendo! Somebody make this happen!
I have the Afternoon Collection on Steam, but would buy it again and pay full price to get it on Switch.
Seems like low hanging fruit that could be done even during a pandemic.
And what about the Afternoon collection? Is there any news?
I’ve been playing Lion King for Mega Drive off and on for a couple months. Off and on because it’s F***ING IMPOSSIBLE
I wish they would announce all consoles at once. I just bought Jungle Book for SNES.
@SpringDivorce Nope, Aladdin Mega Drive was very good, the sprites were all hand-drawn on paper.
The Lion King and The Jungle Book were decent, way better than most movie-based games, although The Lion King was not only very hard, but very unfair, it's amazing these games were sold for kids.
Should had include all the games from the get go, adding the Jungle Book just to sell it at full price again is lame. Put every Disney NES, Super NES, Genesis, and Game Boy games on the collection and maybe I'll buy it otherwise there's no point in playing these when my GPD Win 3 could play them legally and illegally for free. That's right Disney I ain't giving no money unless you put more effort into these collections.
This feels like Switch Online offering. I'm so over nes games. How about Castle of Illusion. Or something less than 15-20 years old.
It's lame they didn't include the Snes Aladdin game, which I actually prefer over the Genesis version.
Hopefully they allow a DLC update to add Jungle Book for those who downloaded the game already.
I bought this collection for my wife because she liked those games as a little girl and now we play them with our daughter.
I don't wake up for anything less than little mermaid 2 pinball frenzy on the gameboy color
But seriously I already own this physically hopefully it just updates for jungle book
@Tandy255 I have almost bought the Afternoon Collection on Steam a couple times... but I am holding out for Switch... just makes way more sense.
Oh I hope they keep going! I'm gagging for Toy Story and Pinocchio!
@OldManHermit It's owned by Capcom, the Mega Drive game is owned by Disney.
Put the rest of the other games in it too please.
@victordamazio Yeah I figured it was a licensing issue. It's a shame though, it definitely deserves to be a part of this collection. Capcom also had a couple pretty great Mickey games on Snes as well. They really should put out their own collection similar to the disney afternoon one.
I already have the collection, hope Jungle Book is available seperately or as an upgrade as I have no intention of buying the full package again.
I think the collection as a whole holds up well imo, I played through Lion King and Aladdin many times on Switch and loved my time with it. Lion King's major problem is it is too unforgiving, Aladdin is a great time from beginning to end imo, even has the movie's soundtrack in places.
The switch seems to be a target for releasing same content with a bit more… as common practise. It’s very annoying. Would rather they just did a second collection with a few games instead of two they’ve already sold me plus 1….
They should add Disney Hercules to it as well! It was quite advanced gameboy game and really super well animated for that time and console.
I’m always happy to see more retro games re-released, but I already bought the double pack and don’t think I’d be in again for Jungle Book alone. Now, if this were the Disney Afternoon Collection, I’d happily double dip after already buying that for PS4. Hell, if the afternoon Collection would come out physically, I’d probably pay a full $60, though I would hope they might round it out with a few more SNES titles like Aladdin (which is better than the Genesis version in my opinion) and Goof Troop
Yeah this is frustrating for me as I own the physical of the first release. Do they really expect people to rebuy the same thing with jungle book added?
@Oh_Well agreed 100%! I’d gladly spend money on DAC physical and add others to the mix too
I think we need to be asking Capcom for the Afternoon Collection, everyone.
I do have to say, I don't really rate these games. Not awful, I just find them mediocre. Sorry Disney.
@victordamazio
They were still a mile behind the best Japanese platformers of the era. They don't hold a candle to Mario / Sonic / Sparkster / Rocket Knight / Castle of Illusion / Quackshot.....
Definitely not buying this again. Honestly, Aladdin is the only game worth playing IMO.
Release as an add-on for those of us who already bought Aladdin+Lion King please...
I'd still WAY rather the Disney Afternoon Collection come to Switch...
SO regrettable that we couldn’t get the Capcom Aladdin game added to this. Will we ever see it legitimately on Switch?
I heard this was a popular article lol.
When I was a kid, my dentist had Aladdin and the Lion King in their waiting room. I don't know if I'll be able to play them now without the phantom taste of fluoride in my mouth.
For a second when I saw the title I thought this was referring to the Switch finally getting the Disney Afternoon Collection from other platforms. Sucks that it's just the Aladdin + Lion King collection already on Switch with one extra game.
Add me to the chorus of people asking if there will be an upgrade pack available for those of us that already have the previous title.
Why are these games coming to the Switch but not the Disney Afternoon Collection???
Is it I or the comments on this site are becoming increasingly whinier?
These three games are some of the best platformers of the 16-bit era but no, there's always something to complain right?
And seriously, Genesis Aladdin is miles better than milketoast SNES one.
I already have the digital collection, hope there will an upgrade option for digital buyers
@DK-Fan
They really aren't.
Tarzan & a bug's Life for ps1 were great Disney games
@Tasuki Idk. I wonder if this updated collection will also be coming to PS4 as well? 🤔
Anyone play the Mowgli gets a woody hack?
@TowaHerschel7 Why do you care that this comment was “censored?”
@TowaHerschel7 Might want to read the article.there pal before commenting
Rechristened Disney Classic Games Collection, the pack is also coming to Sony and Microsoft platforms, as well as Windows / PC.
@Tasuki Thanks! 😉
@dustinprewitt This.
I already own the one that came out, I'm not gonna buy it again, just for The Jungle Book.
DuckTales! PLEASE!
A reasonable expectation would be to have them do what blizzard did when they added lost vikings 2 to their arcade compilation post release, and update&add it for free to those who already own it
Kinda rather have the Micky platformers like Magical Quest.
Let's hope that this will be available standalone online or at least as a DLC. I would like to try Jungle Book.
I don't understand, why everybody's is begging for the Afternoon Collection. Please Capcom, port the Duck Tales Remaster over to Switch or hire WayForward another time for Chip 'n Dale.
I much prefer the Disney games by Capcom, personally!
@WoomyNNYes I would like to see the remake of Castle of Illusion on the Switch!
@aughra I'm Chris Hansen. Come on over and take a seat...
Magical quest trilogy?
…………………p l e a s e?
This is bloody maddening. This is precisely how they should have released it the first time (especially considering the absurdly high asking price).
Back in the day, all three games were packaged together by Capcom for PC, and I was puzzled that they excised The Jungle Book from the recent re-release of The Lion King/Aladdin.
Here's hoping that they at least include the plethora of other ports/remakes as well.
Looking forward to this. The Aladdin/Lion King package is one I'd had my eye on for a while (really wanted Lion King back in 1994 having played it on a few friends SNES', but at that point I was still on a NES), almost bought a few times but asked myself if I'd realistically play it enough to justify the cost. The answer is still probably no, but if and when this hits £20 or less it'll probably end up on my shelf.
Those son of a Guns!!! Why would they not just take Jungle Book and throw in say Genesis Toy Story, Pinocchio or something else for a fresh package??? We all already own Lion and Aladdin! Pure Corporate Greed!!
I had Jungle Book for the SNES, it was not a fun game. I'd rather just kick back with the movie. My best friend had Lion King and Aladdin, they were better. I'd say the best Disney game i personally ever played was NES's The Little Mermaid. Duck Tales 2 was good too.
Aw come on, where's Ducktales?
I would really love to see Pocahontas released again. Not an insanely popular game at the time, but it was by Virgin and the cartridges are now $$$.
It’s a shame the didn’t compile both Aladdin’s and make more a “documentary” style release about all the Disney titles from the era. I also hate how we’re losing the “losing” console’s histories. Darkwing Duck and TaleSpin for Turbografx-16 would be awesome inclusions too (maybe more appropriate for the Saturday Afternoon collection, but still).
@nessisonett There’s a video somewhere about how the designed the stages to combat people beating the game in a “rental” period. Either a dev video or maybe AGDQ couch talk.
Either way, it’s a nasty piece of work!
Now it's more attractive, but a low blow to those who bought the original package.
@Tandy255 it’s on Xbox and ps as well.
Me scanning the headline:
"YES DUCKTALES IS FINA.....oh..."
They're gonna add Pinocchio in 2022. Mark my words.
No, it's cool that we have the chance to play different versions of these games, but not that cool that they do this to early adopters.
what about those who already own it?
@Dirty0814 The DAC is on everything that isn’t Nintendo. It should have launched on the 3DS and then ported to Switch within the year.
By the way, the Master System version isn't mentioned in the article. It's the one I have, so it does exist.
@Tempestryke Jungle Book on Snes is totally different from the Merga Drive Version. You should give the Mega Drive version a chance, i like it a lot, more then the Lion King.
The Snes Version is incredible hard...
Lol I was actually thinking about picking up Aladdin earlier today… guess I’ll wait for this instead
@nessisonett C'mon as a kid I used to finish the game in a bout 30-40 mins. I don't remember the hyena maze and the lava level is a pain but the rest is not that hard.
@khululy Congratulations, here’s some invisible ego boosts!
@nessisonett Gee, thanks...
Tbh. I wish it was the SNES Aladdin and it was bundled with Goof Troops and both Mickey games. No interest otherwise.
Shame I have already purchased the physical of this. Guess I will download Jungle if it is available as DLC. Would have rather seen a new pack with some different games, got a soft spot for old Disney games!
