With how many statements that have been put out defending them and how many game announcements get derailed when people find out it's another key card release, this is obviously not going well.
Really loved this game when it came out. And I love those pixelated DS 3D graphics! I picked the North American boxart, but like others have said, it actually has a Walmart logo on it.
@rjejr Yep. Really wanted to like this game because I like Indiana Jones and Uncharted/Tomb Raider-type games. The first person perspective feels unbelievably forced, and almost every interaction would clearly be better in third person. It even pulls back to third person occasionally because it just works better. And the combat is so bad. I'm sure other people will disagree with me. This is my opinion!
These all seem like welcome improvements, and as a fan of the series, it's a day one purchase for me. Actually been wanting to replay, but now I will wait. I never had an issue with the money, but I guess not everyone knows that the fortune tellers basically allow you to cheat at gambling. But good riddance to the stamina going down when just walking around!
Wow, Disaster Report getting the recognition it deserves! I love that game, but it was genuinely one of the worst performing games I ever encountered on Switch. It's great to hear it runs better on Switch 2, but if I played it again, it would probably be on PC.
There's really no reason that the rechargeable battery should not be user accessible though an actual panel on the back. I understand that joycons are limited due to size and other factors, but this controller isn't. That's why I prefer Xbox controllers despite not owning an Xbox since the 360.
Anyone saying repairability is not important is kidding themselves. I have been opening controllers to repair them for years, and if you have kids, you WILL be opening those controllers. Repairability is crucial, and that glue in particular kills it. I also actually didn't find the Switch 1 pro controller very comfortable, so this is an easy skip for me.
Fortunately, unlike the old 16/32 bit days, third party controllers can be pretty great nowadays.
Hopefully it's good. The remake of the original felt a little off, and I view House of the Dead 2 as basically a perfect game... so that's a high bar to cross. Wish it were a port of Scarlet Dawn instead...
Enormous fan of Shenmue as a series and Shenmue III. However, I am almost certain it will be a game key card game, so no thank you! (But if it's not, then instabuy)
They can be traded on the playground, but you'd then need an internet connection and time in order to download the game. There are systems out there to "lend" digital games (and Nintendo just announced their own system to do that, right?). The game key cards are a way to keep a physical presence in stores so kids can still have something to unwrap but the production cost is surely way lower than a proper flash cart. I'm sure kids won't care, but I'm not buying these things.
@Jester676 You can still download past purchases, but Nintendo states clearly on this page (https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/27560/~/wii-shop-channel-discontinuation) that "However, for the time being you may continue to re-download content you have purchased or transfer that content from a Wii system to a Wii U system. Be aware that these features will eventually end at a future date." Pretend like that doesn't matter all you want because it's so far off, but there will come a time when these game keys are just a piece of plastic.
This page (https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/27560/~/wii-shop-channel-discontinuation) suggests you can still download previously purchased Wii games, and it seems to be the same for Wii U and 3DS. However they say "for the time being." Not really reassuring.
@LastFootnote Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty certain that, yes, you can no longer download anything you purchased on Wii, Wii U and 3DS. If you still have it on your console, you can still play it (so make backups!).
EDIT: Did some Googling and it looks like I'm wrong, and you still can download previous purchases? Can someone confirm this? Even on Wii?
Nintendo's track record for closing their online stores is WAY too bad to consider this. In 15 years, will these cards just be useless pieces of plastic? Not acceptable. I have games in my collection from the 80s that I still can and do play regularly.
@Tevor LRG used to delay releases until after major patches so that as much would be contained on disc/cart as possible. The Shenmue III collectors edition included a complete edition with all DLC, which was (as far as I know) the only place you could get the complete version physically.
These game keys are a green light for devs to not bother with compression for Switch 2 games and then using that as an excuse for why they "had to" use a game key. I will not be buying these, and a place like lrg should not touch game key cards with a 10 foot pole. I guess if I'm buying physical for now on, it will probably be ps5.
I will be waiting until a good VR mod is available on PC before dropping into Subnautica 2. I played through the first on Switch. The first is a good port (Below Zero crashed so frequently that i almost quit). I've since dabbled in the VR version on PC, and it's great. That's definitely how I want to experience the second game.
@Scollurio Indeed. And Saturn is even worse. Panzer Dragoon Saga is easily as good as any of the best RPGs on PS1 (in my opinion, it's one of the best EVER), but it was released in small numbers at the end of the life of a failing console and never rereleased. It should be talked about alongside Final Fantasy 7-9, but instead, most people haven't heard of it, and if they have, they definitely can't afford it. Such a shame.
Feeding off the success of the OG Switch, the Switch 2 will probably do well. However, I do wonder if Nintendo is getting a little cocky, particularly in terms of pricing. I remember thinking the Switch pricing was high (less the system and more the accessories, controllers, dock, etc). But it's ALL expensive this time, console, accessories, games. Convoluted Switch 1 game upgrades (so the game is in a Switch 2 box, but the cart is for Switch 1 and the upgrade is a download? Is that really how it works?). Sony generally offers these sort of upgrades for free. Well, we'll see.
@GamingFan4Lyf Sword of the Berserk deserves more recognition. Definitely a hidden gem Dreamcast title. I bought it because it was cheap and looked cool, and when I started playing, I was like, why does this game about a huge sword have such a significant story, and why do they seem to act like I already know these characters? Of course, that led me to the anime, and the rest is history.
The reality is, if Nintendo had included the haptic triggers instead of Sony (which are not super useful but are occasionally very cool. See: Astrobot), everyone saying they don't like or want analog would be like, "Nintendo does it again! Innovation!" We were all probably fanboys when we were kids. I definitely was. But this is just simply a wrong decision. Analog has been the standard for basically the past two decades.
It's fine, but I feel like it's strange to highlight Wind Waker when, graphical preferences aside, the HD version is obviously superior. The Swift Sail alone makes the HD version so much more enjoyable. And honestly, the gamepad implementation was pretty awesome.
The whole idea of the default game controller for any console is to be able to accommodate the most types of games. Saying, just get a racing wheel for racing games, is crazy. Racing is not some sort of niche market. Plus there are games like GTA or Cyberpunk where it's not a "racing game," but driving is a huge component. Just bring your racing wheel with you when you want to play those segments of this game on the handheld Switch 2. DUH!
@-wc- The Saturn 3D controller had them, and the Dreamcast controller is obviously heavily influenced by it. They were mostly underutilized on the Saturn though.
Analog triggers on controllers have been standard since Dreamcast (I know they did exist even before that. I'm saying when they became expected.), and it is absolutely backwards that Nintendo does not include them on their controllers. I could kind of understand a durability argument in regards to including them on the joycons (but not really), but there's no excuse not to include them on the pro controller.
I remember trying to play Watch Dogs on the Wii U gamepad. The first time I got in a car, those digital triggers made it feel so bad to play.
Why should there be any transfer required at all between Switch to Switch 2? On PS5, you just log into PSN, and your PS4 games are right there ready to download. Nintendo acts like they're innovating here, but the word "transfer" suggests I'll no longer be able to play my digital Switch 1 games on my Switch 1 after transferring, which sucks. Maybe that's not the case and the wording is just awkward...
I am surprised and happy to see Game Informer back. I didn't really read their magazine a lot since I'm mostly a retro gamer, but I loved their YouTube content, particularly the old Super Replays, which I still go back to sometimes. Would love if some of the old crew could come back even for just guest appearances.
I have to say though, who the heck are Gunzilla Games and how can they afford to bring back an entire print magazine team? They don't even have a Wikipedia page. Seems to me like a company flush with venture capital funds that they are just throwing around. But I hope it works out because I still want to see Tim Turi's Super Replay of Deep Fear for the Saturn!
Transformed plays the best, but I definitely miss having a Shenmue stage and Burning Rangers and Skies of Arcadia, etc, etc. Mix the original Sonic & Sega Racing and Transformed, and you've got a perfect kart racer for me.
@mikegamer This. I've tried in the past to play the GameCube version since it does have extra content and I think a lower random encounter rate (my only big criticism of the Dreamcast version). But that audio totally kills it. A two GD-ROM game crammed onto a single mini DVD. Too bad.
Wow! What a lengthy interview. I will have to come back to read it fully, but I have to say this series is just pure joy. I played through the first game on PS1 and hope to work through more (especially since the second was recently translated). I desperately tried to make sure I got an "event" in the journal each day, and I only got the generic "I had a great day" message once or twice. It's really something when you can make me nostalgic for my summer vacationing as a boy in Japan when... I grew up in the USA.
