Re: Review: Kingdom Hearts: Melody Of Memory - A Marvelous Musical Trip Down Memory Lane

mousieone

Okay look I took a few days to comprise my thoughts after playing for about a week.

The game is a fine entry into KH, but lacks a lot basics that you'd expect out of a Rhythm game. I'm not necessarily the best at Rhythm games, but I've play a number of them. For one thing there are three different modes, Field Battle, Boss Battle, and Memory Dive. Field Battle and Boss Battle are fine, but Memory dives? Basically Memory Dives is a music video that plays in the background while you try and see the notes. In some cases, I couldn't see at all. At least with Boss Battles which are similar there is a line and you can see where you are suppose to look for the notes. This actually makes “Boss Battles” the best of the three modes. And Memory Dives are forced on you towards the end for of course "Frozen" -________________-

Then there is the arbitrary levels of the teams and “items”. Like I'm not sure why you need Exp Boost items. I don't think the “Collection” idea is a bad for a secondary level. I mean Miku has VP. But with Miku you get to dress your characters up. You are lock into some of the most boring outfits for the characters. And Aqua has a bunch of outfit items from her solo game. o.O You can't mix the teams, which why? Mickey is a super summons, which is fine but it's weird playing Riku without Mickey. Also, it's linear, so for fans who have played previous entries; you have to slog through a decade worth of information that you probably are already aware of just to get to the new information. This game was clearly meant to be played on the Switch in Handheld mode. If you opt to use a controller, depending on the one you choose, it could be painful. I ending up swapping my hand position, and it made a world of difference.

Do I hate it? No, it's a fun little game. But I'm not sure you want to spend the money on it. Obviously, this is the entry that they gave to everyone but put on the Switch to “Catch” Switch players up.

@Thaliard Your argument makes no sense. Most “violence”’ in video games are things plenty of people encounter on a daily basis though and not limited to just “guns”. GTA, for instance, has plenty deviant acts that go beyond just guns. Part of the appeal GTA, Saints Row, etc is being able to live out your deviant fantasies. And literally everyone has been presented with an opportunity to steal, lie, or hit someone.

Re: JRPG Cris Tales Has Been Delayed To 2021

@RazumikhinPG :/ Sure but just remember games like Gears tactics and Wasteland feature Turn Based Combat and games like KH and FF don’t. Maybe try and come up with some characteristics that actually define your new genre term that someone can’t counter.

And also a Brazilian was isn’t called that because it’s done by Brazilians it was called just because it was popularized by Brazil. Like French Toast was popularized in France.

I have never in my life heard the term “Thai massage” and I’m 41 and frequently go to spas. o.O

Re: JRPG Cris Tales Has Been Delayed To 2021

@RazumikhinPG no I asked you to “define” that. Define the commonality between FF and DQ with Tales or Xeno. Having a problem? Figured you might. A game like The Last Remnant isn’t actually close those at all. Or better yet how one of your “defining” doesn’t even qualify anymore.

Gameplay genres are not the “rabbit hole” you are claiming them to be. If I said something was turned based RPG; I’ve instantly given them idea of what the game is. Tactical rpg, platformer etc don’t confuse the gameplay genre, as most games are defined by first, for a category genre which games are generally only secondary defined by if at all.

I assure you if you said oh Cris Tales is JRPG most people would say it’s Japanese. In fact, at the start of this thread you had “explain” to someone oh it’s genre. That’s a Rabbit Hole that only exists because people think they can change terminology to fit their needs when the bulk of people are still going to default to the historically definition.

Re: JRPG Cris Tales Has Been Delayed To 2021

mousieone

@RazumikhinPG that’s a problem because it’s a personal choice meaning that you personally use but most still use a term you deem as “outdated”. And again, if “turn-base” is your only characteristic that seems a bit vague and also why not just say turned based rpg; why bother with JRPG.

Then you have people who say “old school” JRPG.

It’s a rabbit hole. That would be better if you just didn’t go down at all.

Re: JRPG Cris Tales Has Been Delayed To 2021

mousieone

@RazumikhinPG We do actually use the term Western RPG as a location term, so that argument is null.

The problem with saying JRPG as a genre is defining that actual gameplay. Is it “Turn-base”? Because there are a ton of games like Xenoblade, Tales, etc that don’t have that characteristic that most people consider JRPGS. If you say it’s “menu heavy“, well the Witcher 3 is menu heavy and FF XV isn’t. If you say it’s anime based; The Last Remanent and Lost Odyssey are not.

To go another route, if one considers Disgaea and Fire Emblem JRPGs based on “genre” characteristics than how does one differentia a game like Gears Tactics? Quite literally a turn based tactical game with character classes and a heavy story.

The term JRPG as genre has no defining characteristic to define that genre. And trying to fit it into a “genre” term is like trying to fit a round peg into a square hole. It temporarily works true but when you actually examine it; the argument fall apart.

However it will always be able to identify with being “Japanese” it’s in the name.

Edit: I had to go back and get my glasses.

Re: JRPG Cris Tales Has Been Delayed To 2021

@twztid13 @RazumikhinPG JRPG is a term than somehow, as as late, has changed how it as defined, and confuses those that use it’s historical definition.

Historically it was “origin”’ term and thus to a good chunk of people any Japanese RPG is a JRPG. However, as of late it’s defined by “genre” but yet games like FF XV and “Tales” are still considered JRPGs by most.

I personally think people should stop using it as a “genre” term because it creates confusion with those who have historically used it as an “origin” term.

But it is what it is.

Re: Mojang: Bringing Minecraft To Smash Is The Result Of An "Amazing Collaboration" With Nintendo

mousieone

@backup368 it would if Nintendo owned Ubisoft. Look, I’ll give you an easy one, how is Steve any different than Bayonetta?

Oh wait don’t bother because you’ll alter your position again as you’ve been doing every time someone else has pointed out the flaws in your argument.

Let me make this clear because this is last time I’m responding to you, MS owns Mojang; you should probably accept this instead of quibbling about it.

Re: Feature: Kingdom Hearts: Melody Of Memories Directors On Retelling The Series' Story And Working With Disney

mousieone

@Ulysses so Disney execs still don’t get video games and never will. Disney infinity 1.0 (and 2.0) barely had any Classic Disney characters. Avalanche’s explained that Disney execs feel video games should be tie-ins like toys(minus what EA does). Basically video games are toys to Disney so why wouldn’t they be their to advertise the movies?

@TheFrenchiestFry Yeah, It’s just I think thy there is an internal numbering sequence; they just don’t make it public like .2 Fragmentary Passage.

Re: Mediatonic Wants To "Build Trust" With Community Before Releasing Fall Guys On Other Platforms

mousieone

@NintendoPok How am I running on the Internet? It’s called a phone. They do that now.

First, it’s not about me. But unlike you, I recognize there are people not as fortunate as me. Second, Persona 4 Golden is a PS Vita game but Fall Guys is a PS4 game. As a result the min requirements for P4G are far less than Fall Guys, the memory alone is 2g vs 8g. That is provided you know what requirements for a game are. And also, 600 is still far more money that the 200 dollar Switch Lite that many have.

Please get off your rage fuel fest and actually take a moment to examine the current world climate and maybe just maybe have some empathy for those around you?

Re: Review: Nexomon: Extinction - An Interesting Pokémon Clone That Doesn't Quite Stick The Landing

mousieone

@SmaggTheSmug Whilst I agree that in most games competitive play keeps people “playing” over anything else. Its not necessarily true with Pokemon. 1) the obvious not all competitive being played in game, and 2) a lot of people “shiny hunt” and those people also continue playing long after the based game is done as well. If anything due to some mechanics being overused in game but not sim at certain times past, it was the shiny hunters that carried that engagement for the base game.

Re: Talking Point: Have You Missed E3 This Year?

mousieone

Look the online format is better and the demos actually being playable from home is much more useful.

However

What’s not better, is not having a single entity organize it. If E3 had been the online organizer, and it was still setup for one or two weeks, it would have been fine. This bizarre round of companies each doing their own thing over months was and is really tedious.

The only company’s whose plan was never really alter was Sony’s because they were not going to do E3 anyway.
