It was only last month the Kingdom Hearts director, Tetsuya Nomura, was saying there were currently "no specific plans" to bring more games in this particular series to the Nintendo Switch, after the release of Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory.
At the time, though, he did mention how he still found the Switch an appealing device and expressed how it was possible for another game of his to make the jump to Nintendo's hybrid platform.
Now, following a recent interview with Nintendo Dream, it's believed Nomura might be teasing something else for the Switch. Here's exactly what he said at the end of the interview, after an exchange with Masanobu Suzui from Indieszero (translation courtesy of Oni_Dino):
Suzui: It was a rare opportunity for you to appear in a Nintendo Dream article with a Kingdom Hearts title that you were involved in.
Nomura: I’m sure I’ll be back in the not too distant future.
Nomura previously said Square Enix considered porting the mainline Kingdom Hearts to the Switch but found it to be "technologically difficult". So if there is something else on the way, it may not necessarily be tied to this series.
What else would you like to see Nomura bring to the Switch? Share your thoughts and theories down below.

Please bring Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and Kingdom Hearts III for the Nintendo Switch.
I could see them bringing the HD Remixes, they're already HD and could run on a PS3.
I doubt we'll see 3, it probably has the same issues that DQXI had...except fewer people liked the original.
there's no reason why the rest of the series except for III shouldn't be able to run properly. like just go for it Square, it'll outsell the Xbox version I'm 100% certain
Mainline KH please. Haven’t played a single game of the series yet, but I think I’ll enjoy it
Meh, I'm already up to date on the KH series. KH4 please.
@Rhaoulos
I assume you also beat Re Chain? I still can’t beat it and I’m up to level 70. Keep running low on cards during second Vexen battle in Twilight Town. Also can’t get enough level 7 cards and higher. The moogle only sells cards in packs and most of them aren’t too helpful. This is the only game in the collections I haven’t finished.
please dont hurt my feelings again
@Don CoM is very nice and easy , its just a little slower and people use that as an excuse to say its bad , i 100% the game at 14 years old , how hard can it be??
Like everyone else, I hope to see HD ReMixes on Switch as well. That said, having played Memory of Melody demo, I'm super excited to play the final release. Lots of fun, and pretty challenging too on Proud.
Like others have said, I would absolutely love Kingdom Hearts I.5 Remix, II.5 Remix and II.8 Final Chapter Prologue on Switch. But, having really enjoyed it on 3DS at launch, Dream Drop Distance would be fantastic, too. Releasing all four in one lovely package would be a real boon for Switch fans. Go on Square, you know it makes sense!
@Ultrasmiles See, it's enjoyable if you know what combinations of cards to use. 100% is doable, but is a bit of a grind... but it pales in comparison to getting the Platinum Trophy! I envy people who are waiting for KH:TSSF to come to Switch. They don't have to worry about things like trophy hunting...
twewy 2 probably
@Ultrasmiles
I genuinely had a lot of trouble with it. I guess I’m just terrible with the card system in the game. Did you easily beat the GBA COM or Re Chain on Playstation? I never played the GBA original but I assume there are some different in addition to the graphics.
I just want the remaster of the original Kingdom Hearts on Switch, but I want it very badly!
@The_Pixel_King Well, Dream Drop Distance is already a part of 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue. In 60fps too, which makes the game even better.
As long as it's something I find entertaining, I'm happy.
Fantasy booking time (pro wrestling style). The two HD compilation games get announced for switch as does Sora in smash as the final character sometime next year.
/fantasy
@Ultrasmiles I could never wrap my head around the card system. It might have worked for GBA but they should have ditched that for the 3D remake (since they were just using engine and assets from KH1 anyway).
I've never had the pleasure of playing a Kingdom Hearts game. My money is ready. My body is ready.
The mainline Kingdom Hearts games would sell like hotcakes on the Switch. Not sure why they haven't pulled the trigger yet.
More Kingdom Hearts has already been deconfirmed so I'd guess TWEWY 2.
I'm down for KH 1 and 2 HD/latest version and Birth by Sleep.
Doubt 3 can play on current Switch.
It's probably The World Ends with You Too
Nomura already deconfirmed plans for more Kingdom Hearts games including ports of stuff like Story So Far or KH3, so it's probably going to be a TWEWY sequel since that game is very closely associated with Nintendo platforms.
inb4 Final Fantasy VII Remake gets announced for Switch instead lmao
@Magitek_Knight i played the 3d PS2 version , the pace is similar to crisis core , not too fast but not too slow either
@LaytonPuzzle27
I would also like to see KH 358/2 and Re Coded remastered games instead of just movies.
@Don ps2 , all i did was align strong cards and used them at the right time to cancel the enemies , probably the hardest fight was larxene cuz she was soo fast but nothing special
The Switch is ideal for the game series, surely
@TheFrenchiestFry most likely this. Which is fine it’s getting anime; it makes sense.
@KoopaTheGamer Oh, nice one. I didn’t realise that! Thanks for the info, buddy 😉
@TheFrenchiestFry TWEWY is one of my favourite RPG’s ever, so I definitely wouldn’t be disappointed if it was 'only' a sequel to that game... so long as it has traditional physical controls!
I'm sorry but I have to, You say
The price of my love's not a price that you're willing to pay
You cry
In your tea which you hurl in the sea when you see me go by
Why so sad?
Remember we made an arrangement when you went away
Now you're making me mad
Remember, despite our estrangement, I'm your man
You'll be back, soon you'll see
You'll remember you belong to me
You'll be back, time will tell
You'll remember that I served you well
Oceans rise, empires fall
We have seen each other through it all
And when push comes to shove
I will send a fully armed battalion to remind you of my love!
Da da da dat da, dat da da da da ya da
Da da dat dat da ya da!
Da da da dat da, dat da da da da ya da
Da da dat dat da
You say our love is draining and you can't go on
You'll be the one complaining when I am gone
And no, don't change the subject
'Cause you're my favorite subject
My sweet, submissive subject
My loyal, royal subject
Forever, and ever, and ever, and ever, and ever
You'll be back like before
I will fight the fight and win the war
For your love, for your praise
And I'll love you 'til my dying days
When you're gone, I'll go mad
So don't throw away this thing we had
'Cause when push comes to shove
I will kill your friends and family to remind you of my love
Da da da dat da, dat da da da da ya da
Da da dat dat da ya da!
Da da da dat da, dat da da da da ya da
Da da dat-
Everybody!
Da da da dat da, dat da da da da ya da
Da da dat dat da ya da!
Da da da dat da, dat da da da da ya da, da da da
Dat dat da ya da!
It's Kingdom Karts.
We're never getting a numbered entry.....
the excuse we can't run Kingdom Hearts 3 running on Switch is ridicolous, we have Doom(2016) and the Witcher 3 running on Switch, for Arceus sake, why don't Square Enix make a mainline Kingdom Hearts game on Switch, just like Capcom is doing with Monster Hunter Rise?can't run Kingdom Hearts 3(i doubt this) let make a mainline Kingdom Hearts game like Kingdom Hearts 3 on Switch, built specially for Switch like Monster Hunter Rise.
Kingdom Hearts is such a strange franchise. Looking at it is so bizarre.
Eh, at this point I don't see it happening...also didn't they just say that porting the games would be "too difficult" or something?
@Don No I skipped this one and watched a recap on youtube. The gameplay is crap and I don't have time to play games that feel like a chore. I played all the other games. KH1 isn't great, re:chain sucks, KH2 is great and the others are still pretty good. And KH3 is by far the best, so called "fans" didn't like it because it barely has any FF in it, it's mostly Disney and Pixar (which is great), and the gameplay is fantastic.
@Kirby_Girl You don't even know the half of it. I've been playing the series since Birth by Sleep on PSP and once I got caught up on the story through the PS3 collections and played Dream Drop Distance my sanity was broken by how convoluted the story became
If you try to turn your brain off while playing them you'll have a much easier time enjoying yourself because the stories have come to a point where underneath all the bizzare storytelling, it doesn't really have much meaningful to say outside "dark bad light good"
@Rhaoulos Honestly the draw of Final Fantasy and Disney characters was why I did get into Kingdom Hearts. It's kind of a shame the most KH3 usually came to acknowledging FF was through the appearance of moogles
You'd think they'd want to bring over the collections. I get that 3 probably wouldn't work well on Switch, but at least half the games in this series launched on Nintendo platforms. It's not like people on Nintendo platforms aren't familiar with this series, and those past entries sold well, so why not put in the minimal effort to port those collections over and make that easy paycheck?
@TheFrenchiestFry In my headcanon, the series ended with KH2. The ending provided a satisfying conclusion to Sora, Riku, and Kairi's arcs, while still implying that their adventures would always continue. I've enjoyed most of the games made since, but the story just got into bad fanfic territory as they added more unnecessary characters, villains, and confusing subplots.
@SwitchVogel It's a shame too because the following games gameplay wise are fantastic. I actually had a lot of fun with KH3 when it wasn't involving following the immediate plot, since the gamepaly and stuff like the Attraction Flow system and the Gummi Ship flying felt extremely refined from 2 and Dream Drop Distance.
@TheFrenchiestFry I think they should've soft rebooted it after 2, not after 3 like they're doing now. The first several games were so beloved because they were primarily about the love and friendship between Sora, Riku, and Kairi. The Heartless and Organization stuff obviously affected that, but the main conflict of the story was always about those three and their ongoing struggle to be reunited again.
The gameplay did get better in the later games, but the story was increasingly less about Sora and the gang and more about various other characters that received nowhere near the same level of characterization. I think a lot of criticism could've been avoided if they just retired Sora and co. and instead focused only on Terra, Aqua, and Ven and their struggle with Master Xehanort. New characters, new worlds, but the same overarching themes could've easily made for a great 'second chapter' instead of the dumpster fire we got.
Isn't Tetsuya Nomura the guy everyone complains about?
@Angelic_Lapras_King Oh no! Hahaha.. I certainly hope not, but could totally see that happening
Kingdom Hearts was fun in 2005.
15 years later, not so much.
Hopefully it's a side entry to the main series (like Dream Drop Distance) and not another one of these rhythm games.
Last time they said that they didn't had any interest releasing new Kingdom Hearts... so no they want to come up suddenly with it
@SwitchVogel except Nomura has this thing with Sora. Look at his speech about his “sky children”.
Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory 2
King Mickey spin off
@BlackenedHalo Have faith 😭
@Friendly from someone who played the handheld games before the main line series. I wouldn't necessarily recommend the first two now. They have aged pretty poorly, the second one is alright but still clunky. I would reccommend playing Birth by Sleep and Dream Drop Distance first then go from there. Which it makes sense to start with Birth by sleep since that is technically the first game.
Honestly, I get the appeal with the disney characters but I'd just play Ys 8 if you want a more modern polished action RPG.
@e-love I don't why it matters if it out sells a different version of the same game. All that should really matter is how it can be available to as many people as possible. 1.5. 2.5, and 2.8 are already on game pass. Which has already 15+ million subscribers. Which helps other people give it a try and hopefully like the games.
I personally would also like it to become available for PC gamers because every platform should have that game available (Just to be a tease; PC would be the platform to go if Square Enix wanted it to out sale different versions ).
Most likely TWEWY 2.
Well It could be fake remember sora was gonna be the next dlc fighter but they say no it might happen again..
@Snatcher
DUDE, Nice.! Great scene...
