PQube and Inti Creates are celebrating the 10th birthday of the Gal*Gun series by remastering the game that started it all. Gal*Gun Returns will hit Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Steam in 2021, with the Nintendo release getting both a digital and a physical edition.
The original game hit Xbox 360 in 2011 (a PS3 arrived the following year) but never left its native Japan. The sequel, Gal*Gun: Double Peace, did get a worldwide release on PS4 and PS Vita, while a second sequel – confusingly called Gal*Gun 2, despite technically being the fourth game in the series (we also got Gal*Gun VR) – made its way to Switch in 2018.
Gal*Gun Returns once again places you in the shoes of a young man who suddenly becomes a hit with the opposite sex and must fend off prospective lovers with his 'Pheromone Shot' while trying to secure the affections of one of the main protagonists. It's best described as a heady mix of shooting action and dating sim.
The game's "Doki-Doki Mode" showcases the girls' "best assets from all angles" and is activated by building a gauge under a time limit, a process which brings the ladies to a state of "euphoria" and bags you a "special reward." Ahem.
This updated version improves the visuals, adds in new CG sequences and includes all of the previously-released DLC from the get-go. Oh, and the game also includes a grand total of 423 types of panties for you to discover.

Here’s hoping they don’t charge another £50 for the DLC
Uhhh what did i just watch..?
Gal*Gun 2 was a lot of (silly) fun so I'll be picking this up too.
Fantastic news, still got the original LE on 360, first game I ever imported. To play again is going to be wonderful.
Nice to see it avoid Sony consoles, their hypocritical censorship backed by regressive California types strikes again.
....why?
I'm suprised the series has lasted this long.
@BeautyandtheBeer
First time it's happened. Now for it to make a difference and have Sony re-evaluate its pathetic anti-Japanese censorship policy we need to start seeing mainstream games like DMC skip the system.
@Kimyonaakuma
Who cares why? Isn't my kind of game either but I'm not being forced to buy it. If the games sell well enough there's nothing wrong with them existing.
The word is "pantsu".
Call the cops!
@Gamer83 It won't change Sony I'm afraid, they've already declared as much that they don't care one bit for the Japanese market anymore since their move to California and consequent restricting of creative freedom if you're Japanese (you can have a sex scene in Last of Us 2 though no problem).
It's sad but that is the arrogance a company has when they're the market leader, it happened in very different ways after the success of the PS2.
I feel most for the companies that are forced to change entire directions of games (incurring incredible costs) when Sony changed their policy in an instant.
Wow no playstation version? Yet the other two were on the ps4 and vita.
Its either one of two reasons
1, microsoft waved money at them
2, playstations censorship made this developer salty
Looks like il just have to pick this up on the switch then
@BeautyandtheBeer it's not that sony don't like sex scenes or nudity or panty shots etc it's due to the fact that it involves characters that are technically kids (14-16 year olds)
@Valhalla91 But they're okay with blatant murder? Extreme gore? Decapitation? Murdering innocent people? I mean I get none of those are as serious or harmful as a single panty shot but come on. Blatant double standards here.
The characters are drawings, age has no bearing as long as the rating boards rate them appropriately since you know, that's what they are for.
They had no issues with games as long as rating boards approve them in a non-AO (or equivalent) rating before they moved over to the regressive heartland of California and took on certain values.
This type of game could only be Japanese lol. I might pick it up though it looks fun.
I thought pheromones did the opposite?
@BeautyandtheBeer
That's been my thought as well, that Sony doesn't care about the Japanese market and letting MS get the marketing rights and seemingly timed exclusivity for Yakuza: Like a Dragon is quite telling (unless there's some more going on behind the scenes with MS and Sega that hasn't been announced yet but is more than simply marketing). Still, it did lock up Final Fantasy XVI as a timed exclusive so there is somebody calling the shots at Sony who must care to some extent. And there are plenty of mainstream Japanese games that are just as popular in the West so if Capcom said 'you want the new DMC censored so it can appear on your platform? That's cool, we'll take it elsewhere,' you might see a shift in attitude.
You are right that's probably a long ways off from happening though. Which I why I'm hoping companies that publish niche games start seeing commonsense. I just bought 13 Sentinels, fantastic game but why Sega/Atlus didn't a way to get this on more than PS4 is beyond me. It's not technically demanding and it's perfect for mobile play, it's a shame that it's confined to a home console only, at least here in the U.S.
I guess its something for the sad folk who lock themselves in their bedroom instead of getting a life......
Games like this always amaze me to think it's someone's job (actually a whole team) to make something like this. Someone puts in hours and hours a week. Amazing.
@BeautyandtheBeer ‘They’re just drawings’ won’t wash. Why would you want to perv on a 14 year old drawing anyway? Are there not fully grown drawings that don’t resemble children?
Oh boy I can't wait for the cringe review on this saying REEEE FAN SERVICE
@TechaNinja The whole game is fan service. This game wouldn't have a sequel if it weren't for the fan service.
@nessisonett
I don’t understand how taking a stance against oogling little girls is regressive, but then again I’m attracted to women so maybe I’m just not able to put myself in this guy’s shoes. Not that I’d want to.
@nessisonett How many other Japanese games don't have childlike faces juxtaposed on to curvaceous adult bodies bursting at the seam's?
@Gamer83 I assume some companies have contracts for releasing games and can't escape them. Is likely the reason Marvelous has to completely rework the entire new Senran Kagura game.
I think Final Fantasy has been for a while now far more popular overseas than Japan where it is a distant third behind Pokemon and Dragon Quest so it being exclusive makes sense since westerners just don't 'get' Dragon Quest.
@nessisonett Why would you want to kill someone? Why would you want to commit mass murder? If that is allowed why can I not have a drawing of a hyper stylized completely fictional young looking girl?
Also have you seen these drawings? None of them look remotely like actual children (unless you're going for shota / loli). As for why I want to look at drawings of fictional things, well it just hits the right buttons for me, simple as that. If I'm watching anime (or something a bit more adult) the age doesn't come up at all, the aesthetic does. It's fiction, as long as it not based on a real life person / event I have no issue. Don't need to explain it further like people who watch Rambo don't need to explain why they can't watch something more wholesome.
@zool Regardless of genre, plenty of those around on here.
@Phostachio Real life little girls ≠ drawings of hyper stylised girls.
Wouldn't have thought I needed to say that but guess some people can't separate fiction from reality. So you like real women, good for you! Not sure what that has to do with anything though.
It's regressive as it is stifling creative freedom, something many fought so hard for over the years. The right was well known it for back in the 80s with their censorship brigades (see Dee Snider).
These days is it the left with their invention of cancel culture, attacking anyone who doesn't follow the approved guidelines, forcing women out of jobs and forcing their own ideals on anything and everything they can claw at.
@BeautyandtheBeer
The girls in Gal Gun are literally children in a school setting though, unrealistic body proportions be damned. Fictional or not, the sexualization of little girls isn’t cool. That isn’t me getting religious or anything, it’s just common sense. The murder-in-games defense doesn’t actually do anything for your argument, it just brings up another issue to try and sweep this one under the rug.
I don’t care about sexuality in games as long as it’s between two consenting adults, but that isn’t what this game is about and Japan certainly has a problem with this sort of thing. Love their culture, but not this aspect of it. No place is perfect though, I mean look who we have for a President here in the U.S.
Edit: many fought for the right to draw panty shots of 14 year old school girls? Is this really the hill you want to die on?
As with anything people like to the the Moral police but fail to do Moral policing of their own lifestyle. Do that first before you become Moral police of fantasy games even if it is distasteful or panty games. If all you got out for this game you missed COD/Assassin Creed and the likes and the many other life like games you failed to address as well. But we know already when you pick and choose. The President has nothing to do with the games he was like that from Birth-he had WHITE PRIVILEGES that most other didn't have.
It's really cool we're finally getting this in the West. Although hopefully they don't integrate any of Gal*Gun 2's mechanics into this remake.
Day one physical buy for me! The games are a lot of fun especially double peace where you can’t just shoot wildly and get a good score or progress to a good ending (precise shooting is required for the best possible endings with few misses).
Uhm what?
Does this have actual nudity?
If only it was this easy in real life to touch young school children... Wait, what?
@Scollurio No, at most you'll get some very revealing bikinis, underwear etc and some very 'interesting' scenarios to show the girls in. You never get actual nudity in these games since Japan ratings boards have some weird rule about nudity on their games, you will never see a nipple in a JP game on console because of that.
In the west you can but is extremely rare, think one of the Far Crys did, God of War (not sure on original) and Heavy Rain. Maybe GTA as well not sure.
I think.....I will pass....ahem
Will absolutely pick it up, Double peace and 2 were great games
Some people stridently defending fictional pedophilia in here.
From my understanding, it's not actually perverted people who play these types of games. It seems to be people who have a strange enthusiasm for Japanese sugar coated erotic soft core media beyond the realms of anime and manga.
@Phostachio Ah so instead of disputing any of my points you resorting name calling, classic playground tactic. Your comments also prove you cannot separate fiction from reality. That is incredibly disturbing but not surprising of someone who believes everything the far-left say about Trump. You keep drinking the koolaid buddy.
I'm not getting any further into politics on here as it aint the place and no one wants that toxin injected into a games comment section whichever 'side' you are on.
You also don't seem to know what a pedophile actually is, I am very concerned for you.
🤣 Love that headline! Normally everything IntiCreates makes is an insta-buy for me but in this case I think I’ll pass. Hopefully Blaster Master Zero 3 will be done soon.
@BeautyandtheBeer
I wouldn’t have replied to your comment if you hadn’t singled out California, as if it’s the only state in the U.S that would censor a game like this. You’re the one who brought politics into this. If you don’t believe that the Bible-thumping states, the ones where Trump’s approval rating is highest, would be harder on censoring games like this, you’re out of your mind. Hell, Trump himself played footage of violent video games at the White House in an effort to censor them. Your problem should be with Sony’s move to the U.S in general, not that they moved to one of the most progressive states in the country, and the one that generates the most money for the video game industry here.
Also, I think it’s hilarious that Trump supporters label anyone who speaks out against him as far-left. Especially considering the majority of the U.S voted against him in 2016, and his approval rating has only lowered since. But I guess there’s no middle ground, right? You’re far-left or far-right.
I honestly don't care that much about this game, and can realize that there are a ton of people who just think this kind of thing is funny and don't actually get aroused by it. It's when you go so far to defend your guilty pleasures that I start to think you're a little too into it.
Lol pretty funny that a niche Japanese game like this is on Xbox but not PS. Sony are a bunch of hypocrites in this regard anyway, TLOU2 has nudity in it, but that's okay. 🙄
These games probably won't be on Nintendo consoles for much longer... Why? Because every time a game like this is mentioned on NintendoLife and other Nintendo websites, there's always a large number of people in the comments whining about how "problematic" it is. Developers/ publishers are going to see this and think the Nintendo fanbase as a whole doesn't want these games.
@BeautyandtheBeer When weird gets weird but not full weird. Japan is fun!
@KryptoniteKrunch Just when I got over my PTSD you bring back the images in my head...
@Valhalla91 it’s the censorship issues nothing to do with MS. Im sure they only put it on the Xbox, as statement to Sony.
Hm... it is... interesting. XD
Bet ya basically everyone attacking this game for its fictional pervy content is totally fine with fictional violence.
If you think this is a problem but are okay with graphic displays of murder, maiming, abuse, torture, and everything else so common in modern AAA games, your opinions are NOT worth my time.
In fact, I will go so far as to say that if you're upset about this obviously unrealistic, and meant to be unrealistic, style of pervy game, than you are about titles like COD and GTA, games commonly played by young children, and styled very realistic and set in very realistic worlds, then you are far more sick than anyone who enjoys this title.
@Gamer83 DMC5 censorship was an accident. They released a patch that uncensored it. No idea how that happened
@HammerKirby I don’t think it was an “accident”. I think they took flak for censoring a “grown woman” in a “R rated” game and had to “fix” it. Because someone would have had to intentional alter the code to get that there in their first place. Unless they built the the Xbox version first, which is highly doubtful.
@Kimyonaakuma Well if Senran Kagura can go on even longer and have spin off games.....
I was slightly bummed (shush, all of you, no puns intended here!) about missing out on the first game in the series as well, so here's hoping that'll get remedied with a western release down the road. I'm in no hurry for GG2 until I'm through with Double Peace, but I might just pause the latter in favour of the OG if it hits local eShop first.
Would be all the better if this port added something gameplay-ish on top of all the underwear (like gyro aiming), but I'm not holding my breath.
@Valhalla91 Given how many anime type games are on XBox outside of Naruto, One Piece, etc, I doubt Microsoft did a thing. More just an alternative to Sony.
In-fact, I think there were a few ecchi and possible hentai games for the 360 in Japan and almost appealed to that anime-y market but Microsoft put a stop to that focusing more on western games and it went on to be another XBox failure in that region, bar some great space shooters.
@HammerKirby
Yeah, that's what some people have said, I tend to think it's more along the lines of what @mousieone suggests. Of course it's all just speculation but given how heavy handed Sony has been with the censorship I have a tough time believing it was an accident.
Is the gameplay any good? I'd be up for playing it if it's decent enough.
@BeautyandtheBeer look I'm not trying to argue with you especially seeing as I love anime myself all genres including ecchi, these people should watch darling in the franxx or senran kagura if they think this game is bad lol
But at the same time it's the only reason I can see why Sony have censored anime games due to dipicting underage girls in skad clothing or sexual positions.
But I agree that murder and gore in games should be treated the same but then again there would hardly be any games being made as 80% of games involve some sort of killing or violence.
Same with films, so many films with gore, murder, drugs, sex, violence, but as soon as a films comes out with underage children being sexualised or child nudity then an uproar begins. Yet all those things are morally wrong and should be treated the same
A lot of people are saying things along the lines that it's hypocritical to be OK with video game violence but not video game pedophilia. I'm not convinced. There aren't any actual arguments of how these things are comparable.
@Purgatorium
"video game violence" is such a broad, vague argument and not at all a good defense for what's being discussed here. I wouldn't let my future children play rated M games. I just wouldn't. No good parent should. Also, I have been very vocal about my dislike for games where the objective is killing innocent people. I don't care for GTA, but the goal in the story isn't to go around killing innocent people. I don't really care for playing games that have a lot of blood and gore, and the ones I do like (Doom, Bayonetta) have you killing monsters. The main thing here is context, and there is no good context for sexualizing underage girls. These guys don't have a better argument, so they have to generalize and assume things about others to defend themselves.
Anyway, I don't even care if people play these games, I just had to respond to Beauty's stupidity.
You're right about it being a broad term and that's the problem with the argument. It's relies on the assumption that there is no difference between their list of morally questionable material, but like I said I am unconvinced. No one has presented an argument that all these things are the same.
The burst of publicity about virtual pedophilia in Second Life may have focused on the wrong target. Video games are properly subject to legal controls, not when they enable people to do things that, if real, would be crimes, but when there is evidence on the basis of which we can reasonably conclude that they are likely to increase serious crime in the real world. At present, the evidence for that is stronger for games involving violence than it is for virtual realities that permit pedophilia.
I never get the appeal to these types of games. I tried Double Peace on PS4 and its easily the lamest game I ever played. There are just too many great games out there to play than waste my time lewding little girls.
Switch is getting an awfully large amount of this and it doesn't make me interested at all
@yuwarite The games are selling that should be enough proof people want them.
@BeautyandtheBeer I take it you’ve never been to California? Your comments read like spill-over from Kotaku. Maybe calm it down a bit? Lots of melodrama and assumption coming out of you, today!
Guys, I think I'm starting to get why Japans population is tanking lol
@EliteXeos It's not Nintendo in this case, but Japanese publishers of niche/fanservice'y games; they might not want to deal with the western backlash.
It's like the DOAX3 scenario; the original Xbox game sold quite well in the west, so there was a western market for DOAX3, but the game wasn't released in the west, largely due to backlash over fanservice games in recent years.
Waiting for the physical pants edition...423 of them
Excuse me, is this where I can overreact to Sony not committing to releasing a game that sexualizes children? Thanks in advance.
I would love to see the Nintendo seal of quality on this 😆 👙
Don't get me wrong, I'm all about perversion and vice, but this is basically a touchscreen game on the backpages of the play store.
A new type of low
@graysoncharles what’s a Nessy ?
@Phostachio Congrats on by far the most common sense within these comments. How anybody can deem this kind of thing as anything other than unacceptable is beyond me, maybe they don't have children themselves. If they did would they be happy with people 'eyeing up' their kids!!!
When I visited Japan I was shocked at the social acceptance for this, such a shame that it is not the only place to find it.
@Papichulo The seal of quality will most likely look like the seal of quality on other games. The previous Gal gun games are fun shooters, and I'm sure this will be fun too.
Regarding your "perversion and vice" comment, the Gal gun games are not hentai. If you expect hentai content you will be disapointed, these games are just ecchi.
This explains the few hundred 360s sold in Japan...
Wow, these games (Gal Gun, Gun Gun Pixies etc) always light up the comments section like a match to a pair of panties.
