Re: VLC Media Player Being Considered For Nintendo Switch

klingki

@Dahn_ It’s called Roof Rage. It’s like a pixel art Smash Bros. with a bit of Street Fighter thrown in that takes place across various Asian rooftops. It’s on Steam Early Access now, but it’s supposed to be coming to Switch eventually, which I’m super pumped for!

Here's what I'm thinking:

NSMBUD: I will get this game eventually. I already have it on Wii U, and honestly, it's not one of my favorite Mario games, but I want to give it another chance and see if my wife will play it with me. It also seems like a good game to play on the go. If it goes on sale, I'll probably pounce.

Everything: This game looks wild! I wasn't originally planning to get it, but after seeing more of it, I think I'm sold. I expect reviews will vary drastically for this game, but overall it did well on other platforms, so as long as the Switch version checks out, I'm probably in.

Momodora: I never heard of this game before, but I was really drawn in by the first screenshots I saw. After a little research, I discovered that this game was very highly rated on other platforms. As long as there are no issues with the Switch version, I'm gonna add it to my list, but I'll probably wait until I finish with a few other games before I pick it up.

Onimusha: I had no idea this game existed back in the day, but I love Resident Evil and I love the setting of this game, so I'm likely in on this one. Again, I'll probably wait until I clear out a bit of backlog before I get it though.

Re: Blaster Master And Zelda II Arrive On The Switch Online NES Service This Month

klingki

This is a major LOL. They're catching a ton of criticism for the way they're handling their legacy content, so what do they decide to do? Drip feed us two NES games for the month instead of the already-paltry three. I could understand if the library was huge and there weren't many games left to choose from, but the service has less than 30 games!

Though I read on another site that the reason why it's only two this month is because the third game is Joy Mech Fight, but since that was a Japan-only release, only Japan is getting it. They could have given us another game, or they could have done the minimal translations necessary to actually make the NES Online service kind of special and release Joy Mech Fight to the West for the first time, but instead they opted to just give us nothing.

I hope this doesn't happen every time a Japan-only game is in the line-up.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (January 5th)

klingki

@WiltonRoots I can give it a strong recommendation. It’s funny, I never played arcade racers at all growing up, so there’s really no nostalgia involved in this game for me, it’s just a really good game on its own merits. If it hits the nostalgia bone for you, that’s just an added bonus!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (January 5th)

Smash just came in the mail, so obviously I’m playing that. I also just picked up Horizon Chase Turbo on sale, and this game has greatly exceeded my expectations! It’s been stealing some hours from Smash for sure. Otherwise, I also got Go Vacation along with Smash, and I also got Blossom Tales on sale, but they’re on the back burner for now.

Re: Feature: A Recap Of Nintendo Life Reviews In 2018

klingki

Good to see you're still working on perfecting your formula! Reviews are by far the biggest reason why I come to this site, so anything you can do to get more reviews out there (or at least more reviews of worthwhile but under-the-radar games) is much appreciated.

Re: Unreleased NES SimCity Gets Preserved, Publicly Released

klingki

I like all this random old stuff getting out there. While the SNES version of this game is obviously the same thing but better, it would still be cool to have an official release of this NES version just as a historical thing. If they dropped this on NSO, I'd probably play it, haha!

Desert Child - This is a maybe. I'll see how it reviews. For now, it's probably an under 50% chance I'll get it, but that could change.

Everspace - See Desert Child

Kingdom - Will be getting this nearly 100%, just need to decide whether to get it now or wait for a sale. I picked up Kingdom: New Lands on sale a little while back and have had soooo much fun with it!

Rival Megagun - Will most likely pick it up this weekend. I don't have many (any?) shmups, but I've been looking to get into the genre.

Smash - Of course. Getting it physical though, and Amazon will take a while to get it to me in Korea.

Re: Review: Bendy And The Ink Machine - Filled With Cartoon Scares That Eventually Lose Their Power

klingki

@kirbygirl That may be, though the only other review of the Switch version on Metacritic right now is a 65. Regardless, I didn't make my decision based on this review, I had already decided against it based on personal tastes. It's nothing against this game. It still seems pretty decent overall, probably better than a 6 if you're one that really likes the genre or style, but I have too many other games in the backlog to justify adding this one when I'm questionable on it.

Re: Review: Cattails - A Heart-Warming Feline Adventure With Bloodthirsty Turf Wars

klingki

Every time people complain about NL giving a game an 8 or 9, I check Metacritic/GameRankings and find out that the game in question has a score in the same ballpark there. Just checked Cattails on Metacritic, and sure enough, the game has a 77 (and this is before NL's review has even been factored in). When you mostly only review games that are like 8s or 9s in quality, then guess what? They're gonna get 8s and 9s in their reviews.

Also worth noting that NL's average review score on Metacritic is a 64, which is 10 points lower than average (or a full point on the 1-10 scale).

All that said, despite enjoying this genre (and enjoying cats!), my gut says I would not really be into this game, so I'll be giving it a pass at this point.

Re: Deals: Black Friday 2018 Is The Best Time To Pick Up A 400GB Micro SD Card For Your Nintendo Switch

klingki

I was on the fence about this but decided to bite the bullet on it last night. Glad I did! My 200 GB card has about 50 GB left, but at the rate I'm going that won't last long, and I haven't even downloaded Warframe yet. I hope the transfer goes smoothly and I don't have to redownload all my games one by one. After that, the 200 GB card will become either a digital camera card or a pseudo thumb drive for my wife.
