skill points are used to extend the gameplay of an empty game.
horizon zero dawn 1 and 2 did this.
where the first 1 just had 4 options and part 2 had about 20 including the weapons.
same with the assassins creed games where you had to play daily for weeks to unlock the biggest stats or pay for the leveling to get it faster.

selling it could be made illegal untill the launch day if nintendo gets there way.
