Re: Review: Golden Sun - A Radiant RPG, Once It Gets Going

I played this on release and enjoyed it enough, but for me it could never rank among the Final Fantasy games that I adored at the time (or Pokémon for that matter).

I remember it being quite repetitive, with far too frequent random battles which themselves belied depth (other than the djinn there is nothing to them). The story, characters and setting were also a snooze. I will say its soundtrack and graphics are stunning, however.

@Shiryu I know that they changed everything apart from the battle engine but I'm still reluctant to call it a remake.

The localisation is the best I have ever seen. Si beautifully written that it makes me want to become a localiser myself.

@SLIGEACH_EIRE As you mentioned, it wouldn't be worth their while rerecording the songs. Songs differ hugely from regular dialogue in terms of localisation costs and effort and this game is as niche as they come. I and (I imagine many other people) prefer to have the original Japanese songs rather than new versions. I have a feeling though that you would complain even if Nintendo had done that.

And again, changes in localisation are NOT censorship. Please stop spreading this misinformation.

This studio sure can churn out FF knock offs.

For anyone in Europe in the need of an RPG fix, get one of the Fire Emblem VC games, which are on sale until midnight tonight. I'm playing the original Fire Emblem GBA game (7 I believe) and am loving it. It also works extremely well on the GamePad screen.

@samuelvictor You would probably have been eligible for one full price title, but the surveys you would have had to complete would have pushed you over the edge first. This new system is far more generous.

@Lizuka Believe me, this is much better than the previous system. I registered about €250 worth of games on Club Nintendo (the horror) and had enough stars only for NES Remix on Wii U and a cussy 3DS theme.

You can get Metroid Fusion with the purchase of a €40.00 eShop title. That is pretty damn good.

Re: Review: Super Mario Kart (New 3DS / SNES)

I rented this game so much on SNES that the shop should have just given me the cartridge. Donut Plains in particular sends me into raptures of nostalgia. But I don't think it has aged well. The slippery steering feels like you are rotating the course itself rather than your character (which I believe is also what technically happens).

Meanwhile, I'm still baffled that there's no cross-play for SNES VS games. If I knew they were tied to my NNID account and playable across systems, I would have bought ALL of them by now.
