Re: Nintendo Download: 26th May (Europe)

davidevoid

@tudsworth Yeah, I think it happened with the Sayonara Umihara Kawase team. They just dumped all their games on Steam a week or so before they were going to go out of business.

I wonder if instead this is more a case of Atlus having full control over digital distribution in Europe and making the most of it. The Atlus digital only games do tend to be on sale often (Citizens of Earth, Conception, SMT IV) in comparison to these that received physical release which basically never are on sale.

'The average purchase is just under $10 at present, which is a bargain and also suggests that plenty are shunning the $13 tier that includes Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition and Darksiders II.'

This average is waaaay higher than usual for Humble Bundle and suggests a good hefty percentage of people are putting down the money to get the top tier.

No surprises there, it's an insanely good bundle. I already own RCR:DX, Freedom Planet on Steam, SSFIV on cart and I don't have a Wii U (yet) but I still think this amazing value for money.

Really happy to have SSFIV permanently on the system I've spent the day playing Rhythm Thief which actually isn't too bad... more of this (so long as the developers get a good cut).

Re: Humble Friends of Nintendo Bundle Offers Games at a Huge Discount

For those who are wondering where their copy of Citizens of Earth is, it does not show up under the 'Keys' tab as you need to choose between the Wii U and 3DS versions of the game. To do this go to the 'Purchases' tab and then look for the 'Humble Friends of Nintendo Bundle' purchase. It threw me for a while but finally found it!

Re: Review: Lovely Planet (Wii U eShop)

@SaKo Maybe I've misunderstood over the years but I've heard before that the process for getting games onto a Nintendo console is much more long winded than competing consoles. Also the whole structure and cost of submitting games is higher if (again) I'm remembering correctly. If this wasn't the case then the Nintendo consoles would be inundated with releases ala Steam.

Re: Review: Lovely Planet (Wii U eShop)

£7.99 on Wii U
£4.49 on Steam (and always on sale)

This is why games like this will never truly catch on on Nintendo platforms. Nintendo need to figure a way to get these games on their platforms without the prices having to be bumped up by almost 2 times... also, they need to figure a way to get these games to launch near simultaneously. If the NX got indie games as they were released on PC, PS4, XBONE it could have a fighting chance, as it stands I play almost all my multi-platform digital indie games via Steam. I think it's a huge issue that Nintendo needs to sort out if it wants to reach a broad demographic these days.

Re: The Nintendo DSi Shop Shuts Down Next Year

Really sad, this is the issue with having games digital only, what happens to the history of these games? How can they be archived and played in the future? Pretty scary and sad. I really hope that the 3DS eShop's DSi Ware shop isn't also closing down.

Steamworld Dig? Meh, this game did very little for me, it felt repetitive, short and mundane. I really like the look of Heist though. BoxBoy I find to be just okay too, definitely not better than Pullblox (Pushmo). Overall this is a very nice list though which does show the great variety on the eShop, very happy to see an M2 release and Mighty Switch Force.

Re: Guide: Which Nintendo 3DS or 2DS System Should I Buy?

davidevoid

It's a difficult one with the 3DS. Personally I'd only go for the XL systems as I find I have to strain my eyes (and neck!) to see what's going on on smaller systems.

When it comes to regular XL or 'New' XL it's a difficult decision. The regular one is far cheaper but you may end up (like me) feeling the itch for stable 3D, faster load times and SNES VC games. I guess it all comes down to how much money you have. If I had the money I'd upgrade to the 'New' XL for sure, there are zero downsides to it (aside from the new stylus placement).

@leo13 The M2/Sega 3D classics are great, especially if you like playing with the 3D on. Some are arcade conversions, some are from the Mega Drive but they all have extra features. I'd say check out the Nintendolife reviews and see what takes your fancy. My favourites are probably Fantasy Zone II and Super Hang-On.

Korg DSN-12 is a great synth for the 3DS and allows you to make songs with multiple layers of synth. It's great if you want to learn about subtractive synthesis and step sequencing.

Re: Feature: Ten Game Boy Advance Games You Should Play

davidevoid

You could easily extend the list to 20 for any of the Nintendo console (aside for the Virtual Boy, Game Cube and Wii U perhaps) there are just so many great games out there.

I think this was a good overall list, nice and varied although it would be nice to have a separate list for games not developed by Nintendo.
