@tudsworth Yeah, I think it happened with the Sayonara Umihara Kawase team. They just dumped all their games on Steam a week or so before they were going to go out of business.
I wonder if instead this is more a case of Atlus having full control over digital distribution in Europe and making the most of it. The Atlus digital only games do tend to be on sale often (Citizens of Earth, Conception, SMT IV) in comparison to these that received physical release which basically never are on sale.
This HAS to be physical otherwise what's the point? They might as well just release the added content separately. If this isn't physical I'll be pretty saddened!
@Gio32k that's the one! They seem like relatives somehow. It will be interesting to see how devices like these change the industry, still curious how they fit in with everything else.
No Elite or Minecraft, kind of surprised. All mighty choices there though. I'd swap out Space Invaders for Galaga myself though, who needs Space Invaders when the almighty Galaga exists!?
@Moon unless you want to full 100% the game it really isn't that frustrating. There are a couple of items that are notoriously difficult to get but they're completely inessential. Would recommend the game although it is fairly short.
'The average purchase is just under $10 at present, which is a bargain and also suggests that plenty are shunning the $13 tier that includes Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition and Darksiders II.'
This average is waaaay higher than usual for Humble Bundle and suggests a good hefty percentage of people are putting down the money to get the top tier.
No surprises there, it's an insanely good bundle. I already own RCR:DX, Freedom Planet on Steam, SSFIV on cart and I don't have a Wii U (yet) but I still think this amazing value for money.
Really happy to have SSFIV permanently on the system I've spent the day playing Rhythm Thief which actually isn't too bad... more of this (so long as the developers get a good cut).
For those who are wondering where their copy of Citizens of Earth is, it does not show up under the 'Keys' tab as you need to choose between the Wii U and 3DS versions of the game. To do this go to the 'Purchases' tab and then look for the 'Humble Friends of Nintendo Bundle' purchase. It threw me for a while but finally found it!
@Ogbert No problem, you also don't have to use the codes right away. I got the bundle even though I don't currently own a Wii U as it's just too good to pass up.
@Ogbert It can work either way. You can just get the codes and then go into the eShop and type them in. Or you can click 'redeem' and have them link to your Nintendo Account. (Or you can do a mixture of the two).
Why would Nintendo not show NX at E3?? The only reason I can fathom is that they're playing there cards close to their chest in order to be more powerful than the PS4K and have some USP. Still...
This was great! Somehow reminded me of a mix of Pokemon and Battle of the Planets. Was Slippy voiced by Ash Katchum's original voice actor? The credits don't list the voice actors which is a bit odd.
@SaKo Maybe I've misunderstood over the years but I've heard before that the process for getting games onto a Nintendo console is much more long winded than competing consoles. Also the whole structure and cost of submitting games is higher if (again) I'm remembering correctly. If this wasn't the case then the Nintendo consoles would be inundated with releases ala Steam.
@grumblebuzzz good point actually, I also kind of missed the grid based flatter look of the GameCube game. It was a bit more of a pain to get around but looked nice.
Not too fond of the design, it reminds me too much of a magazine. If Read Only Memories picked this concept up and did what they did for the Mega Drive now that would be amazing! Saying that, I could be wrong and at the right price I'd probably still give this a chance.
If the NES games weren't in the GameCube game I doubt people would still think of it so fondly... saying that I do still have a bit of a soft spot for the GameCube one simply because it was the first in the series I played. The other games in the series haven't aged too well or have been made redundant.
£7.99 on Wii U £4.49 on Steam (and always on sale)
This is why games like this will never truly catch on on Nintendo platforms. Nintendo need to figure a way to get these games on their platforms without the prices having to be bumped up by almost 2 times... also, they need to figure a way to get these games to launch near simultaneously. If the NX got indie games as they were released on PC, PS4, XBONE it could have a fighting chance, as it stands I play almost all my multi-platform digital indie games via Steam. I think it's a huge issue that Nintendo needs to sort out if it wants to reach a broad demographic these days.
Really sad, this is the issue with having games digital only, what happens to the history of these games? How can they be archived and played in the future? Pretty scary and sad. I really hope that the 3DS eShop's DSi Ware shop isn't also closing down.
If they're going to pick another 6 the obvious choices (at least for me) are Elite, Grand Theft Auto III, The Legend of Zelda, Street Fighter II, The Oregon Trail, Space Invaders.
The Steam page for Two Brothers leaves me worried for this game. We'll see though. There seems to a lot of this retro style mixing of generations and consoles at the moment (Shovel Knight, Life of Pixel, this), curious.
Steamworld Dig? Meh, this game did very little for me, it felt repetitive, short and mundane. I really like the look of Heist though. BoxBoy I find to be just okay too, definitely not better than Pullblox (Pushmo). Overall this is a very nice list though which does show the great variety on the eShop, very happy to see an M2 release and Mighty Switch Force.
It's a difficult one with the 3DS. Personally I'd only go for the XL systems as I find I have to strain my eyes (and neck!) to see what's going on on smaller systems.
When it comes to regular XL or 'New' XL it's a difficult decision. The regular one is far cheaper but you may end up (like me) feeling the itch for stable 3D, faster load times and SNES VC games. I guess it all comes down to how much money you have. If I had the money I'd upgrade to the 'New' XL for sure, there are zero downsides to it (aside from the new stylus placement).
@SyFyTy They have pretty much every 3DS game on there though. You can submit games to the database although when they'll actually appears is anyone's guess. I uploaded Bangai-O Spirits about a month ago and it's not appeared yet.
@leo13 The M2/Sega 3D classics are great, especially if you like playing with the 3D on. Some are arcade conversions, some are from the Mega Drive but they all have extra features. I'd say check out the Nintendolife reviews and see what takes your fancy. My favourites are probably Fantasy Zone II and Super Hang-On.
Korg DSN-12 is a great synth for the 3DS and allows you to make songs with multiple layers of synth. It's great if you want to learn about subtractive synthesis and step sequencing.
@happylittlepigs I have both PS2 versions of the game and love it (although I prefer MGS 1 and 2). I tried the demo with a circle pad pro but I still found it not to ideal. Hmm... maybe I should just take the plunge, maybe I could get used to this version of the game. Good to know you think it's the best version, that's high recommendation right ther.
@happylittlepigs so you enjoyed the 3DS Snake Eater? Did you play on the New 3DS or with a circle pad pro? I played the demo and found it hard to get along with on the 3DS.
I have a fair amount of games on the 3DS that I haven't played enough to rate but here are my 9's and 8's...
9
3D Fantasy Zone II 3D Out Run 3D Super Hang-On Animal Crossing: New Leaf Korg DSN-12
8
3D After Burner 2 3D Shinobi III 3D Space Harrier 3D Sonic The Hedgehog 3D Sonic The Hedgehog 2 3D Streets of Rage 3D Streets of Rage 2 The Legend of Zelda: ALBW Mighty Switch Force! Mighty Switch Force! 2 Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate Pilotwings Resort Pushmo Retro City Rampage Sayonara Umihara Kawase Shin Megami Tensei IV Shovel Knight Siesta Fiesta Star Fox 64 3D Super Mario 3D Land Ultimate NES Remix Virtue's Last Reward
You could easily extend the list to 20 for any of the Nintendo console (aside for the Virtual Boy, Game Cube and Wii U perhaps) there are just so many great games out there.
I think this was a good overall list, nice and varied although it would be nice to have a separate list for games not developed by Nintendo.
Have to be honest, I'm not overly confident about Resident Evil's future. I think it all lies on the next numbered instalment, they have a big chance coming off the back of Revelations 2, I just hope they don't mess it up!
'Perfectly playable' on the original 3DS... I think you're being overly kind there Nintendolife, from footage I've seen it looks like it should have been a 'New' 3DS exclusive.

@SilentHunter382 still can't make heads or tails of this whole Gold coins malarkey but I'll take your word for it, thanks!

Woah! What's going on with NIS America? Is this something to do with their Atlus deal changing? https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2016/04/nis_america_no_longer_publishing_atlus_games_in_europe

Re: Capcom Could Be Planning to Bring Back Old IP
I think it's all talk, if not I think they'll basically just lend their properties out like they did with Strider.
