@Clamango yes, it is both, but i think the fact that you CAN have a home experience with pokemon makes gamefreak uncomfortable. if it were up to them, theyde probably disallow the ability to play it docked.
i feel like perhaps all the decisions people arent liking were possibly made because game freak is being basically forced to make it for a home console. they have always advocated that core pokemon would always be a handheld-only franchise but now nintendo has left them with no choice. I really doubt it because it would be petty as hell, but a small part of me wonders if they are trying to make it sub-par on purpose in protest.
Absolutely not. Switch hardware is not sufficient for good vr. Then again my definition of good vr is only doable on a mid-high range gaming pc, with a dedicated vr headset and decent motion controls. Not trying to be like pc elitist, and I'm sure consoles will be sufficient eventually but I feel like the vr on current consoles is just an afterthought and is completely unrealistic to expect much out of. When the console is built with vr in mind, then it might be good assuming the hardware is both up to it as far as horsepower but still accessible for the masses.
wise choice. they are killing it off finally, even if they arent calling it that. guess they are still banking on fools tool naive or to realize, or too cheap to admit it, to buy up any remaining stock. they wasted a lot of time and resources delaying this though. theyll need to make up for lost time.
@Godzil well, at least not a "pro" version. i can see the mini version selling very well and further reinforcing why 3rd parties should be supporting the platform.
@Anti-Matter not in japan. its a different market over there and things that sell well here may not sell well there and vice versa. sony actually did a decent job supporting the vita with titles in japan but never bothered localizing a lot of it to the west as well.
Theres one thing a parent can do. NOT let them play it! if its unbalancing their kids life then a parent has the responsibility to put a stop to it under their own roof. be a freaking part of your child's life and figure out what is influencing them in a negative way. that being said, i hate the damn game too, but there is nothing about it inherently bad compared to many other games. ANYTHING not in moderation is bad. the only thing that ought to be banned is certain people who think they can substitute games for good parenting, from having children. the gene pool doesnt need that sort of stupid.
i mean unless they are just not trying, i would hope so, its a fighting game for crying out loud. anyone who knows anything about games knows fighters arent the least bit demanding.
no faster way to make nintendo regret their decision to allow someone to get their hands on nintendo ip than to bombard them with requests to do the same for everyone and their grandma.
how long before sega understands that all sonic has going for it anymore is nostalgia? games that survive purely on nostalgia and fail to evolve are doomed to fail. nintendo was able to figure that out and they are still around as a big console manufacturer and game publisher and developer. sega didnt and they release mediocre titles once in a while. if this sonic game cant show that the ip will or can evolve into a game people will like for more than just its history, then by all rights it should be the last sonic game made. i like sonic and want to see it endure into the future, but it needs to prove it has a reason to exist beyond wasting my time getting me all hyped just to disappoint me again.
only if there is some way to redeem what games you own physically so you can download them. maybe register them with nintendo? the only issue i see with this is used games. if you go to sell your physical game back to gamestop or something, nintendo has no way of knowing you did and leaves it on your account to download any time you want as if you still owned it. maybe allowing some sort of special re seller accounts where when a reseller obtains the game, they register it with nintendo who then move it off your account? it would basically mean you could never take a game to nintendo without the registration code, but it would theoretically work.
@blackbox64 nintendo game's retail prices has been the exact same as everybody else's and they have ALWAYS remained at that price even way after launch. That business model existed before microtransactions were ever a thing and has continued after. Mac's have bothing to do with these decisions and have rather been continued in spite of them.
@Yosher I feel like that would make the game TOO easy. Part of the challenge was that you were on rails. People these days really seem to take issue with being challenged and having to start over when you dont succeed. Used to be you had to be GOOD at a game to finish it. Now they all just want to be handed victory. Whats the point in that?
@The-Chosen-one its a matter of logistics and money. Theyde have to get all the various language voice actors back in a studio, pay them for their time when they may be busy with other things, and basically do it for only a few lines of dialog. Not really worth the effort.
@GameOtaku look back at the prime trilogy when they first came out though. even they had lower sales compared to their mario and zelda counterparts. and those are considered the pinnacle of metroid games. i wouldnt produce more either if only a niche albeit dedicated fanbase was ever going to buy them.
Ive always suspected whenever discussing with metroid fans that they are more niche than they think they are. interesting to see numbers that back up the theory though. at least where japan is concerned. i have always wondered though why nintendo always places so much emphasis on catering to the japanese market over the worldwide market seeing as... y'know they are a company... who wants to make money... and the rest of the world has more money than just japan...
or you could just release more recognizable games. that would probably work too. there are also too many indie games. its too hard to tell whats good and whats garbage. they also need to be their own section on eshop. though nintendo wont do that because it would make their selection seem more barren. honestly this could all be solved just by discontinuing the 3ds. once its officially dead, all those developers will migrate over to switch.
we need a new core game already. but try not to F it up like sun and moon. x and y were mediocre too, but MAN sun and moon were stinkers! i miss the way pokemon felt on gameboy...
he maybe be considering the switch, but is nintendo considering his video player? there are two sides to this equation here. he doesnt just get to decide, no matter how awesome that would be.
They are shying away because fast and furious tanked?! Sounds like a load of BS to me. You cant compare Nintendo to that sh*t movie series. Also don't want it to match the presence of Harry Potter?! It's BETTER than Harry Potter! Its like suddenly they are allergic to money if its made by properties they dont directly own. Nintendo, Mario, Zelda, have all been around tried and tested for a LONG time and has remained popular. There is no safer bet than Nintendo for attracting people.
@Wolfenpilot687 translation is not the issue. the game is already out on pc and is translated perfectly fine. its getting it onto the platform that is taking a while.
If its a multiplayer game or one my fiance isnt interested in playing, I go digital. If it's a single player game me and my fiance both like, I go physical.
@subpopz if they wanted to be on the cutting edge, theyde never need to release a pro console, theyde just have released what the pro was from day 1 as the standard version. they had the tech and the means. it wasnt a cost issue. it was a calculated business decision to double dip in consumer wallets.
@GrailUK not a good one if they do. sony has gotten too complacent. they always do after one success. they will fail eventually because they will fail to adapt to changing markets.
@Rayquaza2510 "even a Intel GPU can run it at decent settings with 60fps." are you implying that intel is low-end? because nothing could be further from the truth.
sounds like they have one of those overbearing neighbors if this happens every time they play games together. they should write a complaint to the front office and see if they can do something. either that or the police need to tell them to stfu next time they call.
@DABYX well yeah, theyde either have to zoom out further as the players get further apart, or wait for both characters to head in the same direction but stopping the panning when they get too far apart, effectively making them both stuck in the same place walking against the boundaries of the screen until the other gives up. it only makes sense to require two switch consoles.
@Tasuki i dont think that was ever ambiguous, dude. you cant play multiplayer on the same pc and wont be able to on the other console either. the only way multiplayer works is by linking two units. what you thought they were gonna try and split that tiny screen?!
not sure i believe they are embracing content creators until i see it. im sure they thought they were doing just that when they announced their creators program but it couldnt be further from the truth. ill believe it when they prove it.
@SetupDisk smash is a must-make game. It prints money. Kid Icarus, while still good, is rather niche compared to some of nintendo's other ip. plus from what i heard, the game was ill received in term of how difficult it was to play due to the limitations of the 3ds and as a result, it probably didnt sell well enough to consider remaking later.
@DavidMac that is not how business works. the ip is worth something and nobody but a fool would just give away an ip like kid icarus. Nintendo are no fools. they protect their ip fiercely and its part of why they are such a gaming giant.
doesnt the switch natively support unreal engine 4? it might take some tweaking of the graphics, and i know its not as simple as plug and play, but i see no reason why it shouldn't make its way to switch. given crash bandicoot made its way over and seemed to sell well enough, youde think theyde have begun porting by now. if activision is too lazy to figure out, maybe they could hand it off to the guys who did the doom port? might as well give the business to a REAL studio. i know theyll basically only get paid for their time and not the sales, but still.
honestly, this is okay. skyward sword has the worst case of recycling areas from the game in my opinion. it had WAY too much backtracking. that and the motion controls were forced and not really fun at all. it didnt add to the experience so much as lessen it and make it probably impossible to port to future consoles since we will probably never get another motion control console again because everyone recognizes it for the gimmick it is.
i actually prefer the traditional top-down camera view over the dynamic ones. just seems more authentically "pokemon" to me. i hated the dynamic camera in the newer games. wish they had left out double battles. never like that either. always felt like a gimmick. also wish they hadnt gone with the pokemon go style catching, unless they made it so you can battle trainers more than once. would make it impossible to grind if they didnt. though i gues this isnt supposed to be that type of game. think ill hold off for the next mainline game or until this is on sale... which considering how often nintendo games go on sale...
@Kalmaro sadly the switch has the joycons which means we will probably see them return in some form. there were quite a few mechanics and puzzles that relied a lot on them for them to port it without them. the alternative is remaking vast portions of the game.
When can we just get a straight up traditional pokemon battling game on mobile? i dont much care for these alternative ways of battling. just stick what was in the gameboy,ds and 3ds games in my phone with some way to trade and obtain pokemon and ill be happy and content.
