It just goes to show how bad Nintendo’s marketing department is. Communication is a good thing for buyers, the fact that leakers are doing a better job communicating is a failure at Nintendo.
@Axecon I mean, new does not always mean better. I think it is nice that some companies are continuing to support a game for free and add more value to existing purchases.
Please be aware that switch force is one of the Youtuber’s that stated he was very confident with sources that a direct would happen on June 16th, so take his videos with a grain of salt: https://youtu.be/8BPAFs4jGwg and https://youtu.be/8ipmDVzcTxk
He also produces a lot of clickbait videos to the point where he had to address that criticism: https://youtu.be/EOrpT86T8Iw
Please also note that his past videos indicate that he heavily dislikes remakes because he only wants specific big new game reveals (Zenoblade and splatoon don't seem to count as sufficient new reveals to him) https://youtu.be/umF-SU01YHM https://youtu.be/SsGpIUX6AC8
It’s pretty funny to read these thoughts, that Nintendo’s silence means an e3 “must” be coming in June. It would not surprise me if Nintendo pushed their direct to July or August to promote those games in the fall. Maybe Nintendo feels the 2020 twitter drops were more effective.
Also, these people forgot that Mario had a game last year: bowsers fury. And a Mario game this year: Mario strikers. And Mario plus rabbids on the horizon. Plenty of Mario already.
I am shocked that Fire Emblem has only had 18 million downloads, but has made almost a billion dollars! What a dedicated user base with deep pockets. No wonder we keep getting fire emblem games.
Alternatively, maybe the tech companies could offer auto renew as an option and allow refunds within 24 hours of the auto renew? Some consumers may like to choose opt-out instead of opt-in.
NSO expansion pack is a good value since it is still much cheaper than rivals, but I have animal crossing and mario kart. NSO without expansion pass is a very good value compared to how cheap it is from the other services. I think I would opt for game pass over playstation's sub if I had to choose between sony and microsoft, as I would never have to buy a xbox game again whereas sony kinda shrugged their shoulders on when games get entered in.
I applaud their communication, but now Zelda fans will be expecting basically a full experience as though it is a new game instead of just rehashed improvements
@MostHandsieBoy wonder how the execs will view it though? Square’s recent statements about under performance of games seems to suggest they are comparing it to other games in the industry
Mario kart tour is mark kart 9 and I have stuck with it since launch every week. That being said, I’m glad that Nintendo is keeping support alive with the old Mario kart 8 deluxe even if it is minimal effort
Well, these writers in the article sounds like they are beating up their switches. My launch day switch is still in perfect condition and I use it once a week. Original joycons too, although there is slight joycon drift.
I completely agree with the conclusion of this article, that all signs point to how we won’t see a switch pro until some point in 2024. It simply is not needed when there are so many games being released for the system. Nintendo usually likes to have a gap year before the release of a new system to build up launch titles, and 2022 is crammed with content.
@iLikeUrAttitude I guess it really does just depend on how you define "context" as you were saying. If you believe context should be only a comparison to other games in the poorly selling series, then I see your perspective since it is an upward trend. I guess I just fall in the camp that "context" means sales compared to other Nintendo games, as splatoon on wii u or luigi's mansion outsold this established Metroid ip, in which case Metroid Dread may not be so "objectively" a success. Since we are unlikely to get an update on sales figures for Metroid dread when it sold less than 3 million, only time will tell how Nintendo (not us) will look at it when they go to assess what new games should be made.
@iLikeUrAttitude I never discussed ratio of install-base size as the end all, but rather compared game sales on differing platform sizes. I agree with you that God of War was not a failure because it sold 20 million units. I think you are too tied to the fact that it is the highest performing in the franchise, because barely being the highest in a franchise that sells poorly is not good. Metroid dread sold less than 3 million copies despite critic awards and a heavy marketing push, but the buzz is fading now. It sold so few that we may not hear sales numbers again for this game in an era when Splatoon 1 on Wii U and Luigi's Mansion outsell it. For a franchise as old as Metroid and on a large switch install base, it is not a good sign that the game sales barely affect Nintendo's bottom line.
@iLikeUrAttitude @Ade117 @BTB20 Splatoon 1 on the wii u sold more than Metroid Dread ... not a good sign for the metroid franchise when a new ip (splatoon 1) on a less than 20 million user base outsells an established ip (metroid dread) on a 100 million user base. Looks like it will all come down to Metroid Prime 4 to save the series from Fzero obscurity.
Disappointing results from Metroid dread when compared to Pokémon brilliant diamond or Luigi mansion, especially since Metroid dread had big marketing behind it, game of the year nominations, and word of mouth on social media. Hopefully Nintendo does not reflect on the sales of this game struggling to reach 3 million to 100 million player install base and with the switch effect too. If prime 4 does not cross the 3 million mark in the first 3 months, this franchise may go the way of F-zero.
