Re: Limited Run Games Lists Yooka-Laylee And Dust On Website, Prepares For Pre-Orders

WillTheLion

I'm really tempted to buy that Yooka-Laylee for Switch so I can play it on the go but man that price is high when it cost $18-$20 new on PS4/Xbox One (both being systems I own). I've seen it for around $10 used as well. So the question that remains is... "Is it worth $40 dollars more for a portable version?"

I want it physical so that the game can be played on my Switch and my wife's Switch. Because there's no way I'm buying two digital copies at $40 a pop.

I'm hoping that a cool collector's edition is announced that helps justify the price a bit more (but knowing the current price it's likely that such an edition would just be $80 or more. It's a shame really because that's exactly the price I want to avoid by not buying digital.

@Tibob I feel that if they'd left it at $40 (equal to the eshop price) then it would have been more fair. (Even though the eshop version also feels highly over priced.

Re: Divine Marriageable Characters DLC Pack Now Available For Harvest Moon: Light of Hope

WillTheLion

@RETRO_J @Elanczewski @krvstkvlt @MaxlRoseGNR My wife and I play this Harvest Moon game alongside Stardew Valley and we really like both. The truth is that the art style took a little getting used to, cause you know 3D models + 2D envirmoent = weird. But after playing for a few hours the game really starts to shine and you forget about silly things like weird art directions. Truth be told the art style actually kinda grew on me. The game does a really good job at character interactions just like the Harvest Moon games of old. The whole plot around the Lighthouse was interesting and kept you wanting to do more to fully power it up.

It's got great co-op 2 player once you unlock the 2nd player option from progressing in the mines, something I don't think any Harvest Moon game has really done before.

The game actually has a lot of charm and I'm actually excited for this DLC release as it was always a fun goal to try to marry the Harvest Goddess in the previous games that allowed that. Honestly the DLC isn't overprice either @krvstkvlt . The game only cost $40 (a substantial discount from $60 games) and so paying only $10 if you like the game (as in you're not forced to pay extra if you don't want the extra) isn't a bad deal at all as it's still under $60 dollars.

Seriously guys don't bash a game you haven't even played. I'll be the first to admit that there were some bad Harvest Moon titles since the whole name split fiasco started, (Minecraft styled Harvest Moon? No thanks...). But that doesn't make it impossible for Natsume to actually make a fun game (which this one has successfully achieved for people willing to actually give it a chance.

Re: Rumour: Luigi’s Mansion For 3DS Is Out In October, According To Best Buy

WillTheLion

Seems like a good time for it to come out. It's a shame that I don't play my 3ds now... The Switch is so much more appealing, there's no way a previously 1 screen console game couldn't have been better on the Switch which also has 1 screen. I really doubt the 3ds version makes substantial enough use of the 2 screens to justify the port to the lesser system...

sigh

Re: Rumour: Fortnite Dataminers Find Evidence Of Future Vehicle Customisation

WillTheLion

Huh this could be cool depending on how it is implemented. I'm curious how it would work, since every other cosmetic customization affects your own character (minus sprays of course).

With a vehicle that you have to find in the map it seems hard to make it cosmetically different using options in the lobby. Especially since up to 4 players can ride in it. Perhaps the driver's settings would be the preferred settings.

I've heard the idea that the little flag should show a player's currently set banner. I think that'd be cool.

Re: Nintendo UK Is Asking For As Much As £180 To Repair Cracked Switch Consoles

WillTheLion

@AlternateButtons The Switch Subreddit downvoted me into oblivion when I posted about having cracked vent plastic that eventually cracked to the point of falling off. The reason you're not seeing it there is because no one can say anything negative against the Switch because it must be false or slander if it isn't something positive about it. That sub is nothing but a big echo chamber.

Re: Review: Gal*Gun 2 (Switch)

WillTheLion

I imported the Japanese copy which has full english language support and I have absolutely enjoyed this game. It's easly a 7/8. The levels can feature alternate paths at times, as well as many hidden objects/power ups through-out. It really keeps you looking around to find all you can for the best run. The game is a vast improvement over Double Peace as the bunch of new side missions really add lots of variety to the game that just wasn't there before. There's also multiple endings and unlockable costumes as well.

The game is awesome, if anything I feel NL gave it a low score because rail shooters are a dying breed. Rail shooters themselves seem to be a dying breed perhaps because they're not as mainstream these days. But this game works plays very smooth, just as good as House of the Dead or Virtua Cop. The Gyro option while zooming gives amazing mouse like control that really makes up for the lack of a 'light gun' like was common back in the CRT Televesion days.

If the cute aesthetics doesn't turn you off it's definitely worth playing.

Re: Random: Bad Dudes vs. DragonNinja Fan Art Is Being Used To Promote eShop Release

WillTheLion

@khaosklub I remember that!! It took me 3 whole days to stop ranting in that thread and to my IRL friends about how blatantly wrong NL was. I remember starting out thinking it was just an accidental mistake. But then I got super annoyed that the article writer refused to correct it even after multiple people corrected him.

I had to stop because I was annoying my wife with my frequency of complaints about it.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Version 1.3.0 Will Go Live Next Week

WillTheLion

@SBandy Why what's wrong with using the term "Quality of Life"?

Honestly these new features seem to fit the description of such. Skipping blade bonding cutscenes takes away lots of wasted time when grinding for rare blades. Having a lock also prevents you from accidentally getting rid of important blades like Wulfric which I read on reddit someone did once and they had to redraw it from the pool again.

Re: EVO Japan Trailer For SNK Heroines Turns The Fan Service Up To Eleven

WillTheLion

@Yorumi Well hey at least you gave it a try. The story really started to grab my attention most around ch4 or 5, but if it wasn't your cup of tea that's all fine too. I absolutely love the cutscenes in this game and towards the end I craved them more than other activities you can do in the game.

The RNG for blades is kinda long and drawn out I'll agree. But I've beat the game now after 125 hours and so I welcome the chance for the last 10 rare blades I haven't gotten to slowly add more to my game. It gives me something to do while I do extra side quests that I left for the post-game.

I didn't play Tiger Tiger at all until after I beat the final boss (okay well maybe 3 times) and I kept Tora and Poppi as one of my main party members. It's totally not necessary at all. But again I didn't like it interrupting my playthrough but it's a pleasant break after it's all said and done.

There's two sidequests in particular that had awesome memorable npcs that even though there appearance was generic the game helps to remind you that you had significant interaction with them. There's one quest where you help a family of kids that were abandoned by their dad, so their big brother joins the army. Later you run into this big brother 2-3 times and each time he has something important to do for you, one time it's sending stuff back home to his siblings, while another you help solve a murder mystery. Eventually you even encounter the father of this family and you have the chance to convince him to return home to his kids. And if you do convince him to go home he will actually be there with his kids the next time you go visit them. All of these characters had generic models but you learned to know who each of them were. Honestly it was pretty cool.

There's another quest where you help a aging father get in contact with his two children who've moved to separate parts of the world. And even after you finish this quest the family members will still make comments about their family that change every time (it's not always the same message). So I really felt like Monolith spent a lot of time into making living NPCs if you will. They constantly change dialogue to match the events in the world so talking to NPCs can often be a treat.

If you still own the game maybe you should go back and give it a try again sometime. If battles are beginning to take too long you can always try to sleep at an inn to get that bonus exp that helps you level up faster. You can also totally skip Tiger Tiger if you'd rather not do it. If you try and get the development levels up for towns you might see lots of NPC development that you might have missed.

If you have a Wii U I hear Xenoblade X had way less cutscenes. Maybe that'd be something you'd have greater interest in. Either way happy gaming friend!

Re: Video: This Make-A-Wish Mario-Themed Playground Will Brighten Up Your Day

WillTheLion

@HappyMaskedGuy I also want to apologize for quoting you at the end of my post with the use your brain thing. That might have been in poor taste sorry. Also apology accepted.

I think that perhaps people just don't understand. It's also possible that a lot of them didn't watch the video that more fully explained things. Make-A-Wish deals with lots of kids that have really rare diseases and that can make it harder to know how to deal with it for a unknowing passerby. For example I didn't know what Rett syndrome was. I had to look it up. It sounds rough and I wish your niece well! I found this site that talks about positive research towards a possible cure for Rett syndrome: https://www.duncannri.org/ It's not anything yet but I figured maybe it could give you and your family some hope to know someone out there is working towards it.

My little sister has Leukodystrophy, perhaps a rare disease you haven't heard of before, it makes it so she can barely stand unaided and now even as a 12 year old she crawls around to get places. It slows her speech and she can't swallow liquid normally so she has to get it through a tube in her tummy. It also makes her mentally stuck at around a 5 year old's mental state. She has an unexpected life expectancy, the doctors originally didn't think she'd even make it to 8-10 years old. She has to work everyday with my mom to exercise to keep her body from constantly deteriorating itself.

Coincidentally she also got a playground from Make-A-Wish and she loves it very much. She's always happy to share it with family and friends. You could say she brings a smile to everyone who knows her and her loving heart.

So to me seeing this article was something special because it reminded me of our own struggles at home, but not everyone who has family troubles will always want to post about it on the general internet. And not everyone has experienced something remotely similar so I think it's easiest to just realize that and move on. Ignorance is bliss so perhaps the insensitive people in this comments thread have just been fortunate enough in their family lives to not know the hardships of such illnesses.

Hang in there you seem like a genuine great person!

Re: EVO Japan Trailer For SNK Heroines Turns The Fan Service Up To Eleven

WillTheLion

@Yorumi I appreciate the response. I personally felt that Pyra's and Mythra's design were handled well. They did make some comments relevant to their appearances in some of the cutscenes. Sometimes it gave a pretty good laugh. I'll agree they were a little large and that sometimes it was a little distracting at times, but it easily was a detail I only really thought about during the begining of the game. Once you play and learn that they are actually well thought out characters with unique personalities you kinda forget all about it.

The story was truly gripping and the 'eye-candy' if you will stopped being a focus for me very early into the game. The eye-candy probably played a part in making me interested in the game at a glance, but it definitely wasn't what convinced me to buy the season pass. No it was the awesome gameplay and story that did the latter.

You mention Xseed which makes me think of the Senran Kagura game Shinobi Refle. I'll agree that this game was a bit much. It's pretty watered down from the gameplay that made the other games in the series fun. Instead it's entirely based around sex appeal. I think it's a game that probably did it's series and fans a bit of a disservice. But it's probably not going to be what all the Senran Kagura games will be from now on either. So for fans who wanted something else they can just wait for another game that has less of a sex focus.

I feel that Xenoblade 2 definitely was not a game that targeted the same audience as Shinobi Refle. And even though Pyra's design is a little ridiculous, it's definitely not the focus of the game. It gave her a distinct look I guess which helped identify her as a part of the main cast. But other female characters in the game had quite varied appearances. Nia is close to flat chested, Morag is also sometimes mistaken for a guy (her boobs aren't emphasized either). Pandoria is pretty average sized all around so I don't see the claim of sex appeal being a big focus really panning out. The game gave the characters male and female varied body types, it makes it more fun to look at and explore. In a game with easily around 50+ unique identifiable characters (as in not generic npcs) there's probably less than 5 who have large breasts. I don't really see that as a problem.

Anyway sorry this turned into an extremely long post, I had no intention of offending I just felt like trying to give a good response since you seemed to give me quite a long answer yourself.

And if you haven't played Xenoblade I highly recommend you try it and see how long Pyra's outfit (or any other characters for that matter) stays a concern. I promise the game isn't focused primarily on sex appeal.

Thanks for reading this whole comment.

@HappyMaskedGuy "You are an idiot. You don't have to die to go through absolute hell. Nevermind the parents. Honestly, use your brain."

I never said that they hadn't gone through hard stuff. Obviously they have that's why there were even considered for receiving something from Make a Wish.

What I said was, "Did the kid die? If not why would this be sad? Or are you saying we're going to shed happy tears?"

My point was that this wasn't something to be sad about because the kid received something amazing that helps him to be happy through his struggles. My question towards why we would cry about someone finally having something awesome happen to them.

To quote you, "Honestly, use your brain."

Re: EVO Japan Trailer For SNK Heroines Turns The Fan Service Up To Eleven

WillTheLion

Honestly I'm excited to get this one. My wife loves to play Dead or Alive 5 Last Round because of all the fun costumes, its one of the few fighting games I can get her to play with me. This SNK Heroines looks like the perfect game for us to play together. I'm sure she'll love the 'dress up' mode for costumes and I'll be happy to have a tag battle partner for the arcade mode and such. Besides with the idea of being able to pull off supers with a single button that sounds like a difficulty curve she could handle.

Thanks @SNK for making something that people of all skill levels can play!

Re: Video: This Make-A-Wish Mario-Themed Playground Will Brighten Up Your Day

WillTheLion

@Dom So a little of both. That's cool! Makes sense. Thanks for replying. And thanks for sharing this it's pretty cool. My own younger sister has Leukodystrophy and was also given a Make A Wish Playground in her backyard. It's made her the happiest kid that I know. She always wants to play on it. So I can only imagine how awesome this is for this kid too based on her experience.

Re: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze And Hyrule Warriors Are Coming To Switch

WillTheLion

@james_squared I gotta admit I screamed in joy when I saw Hyrule Warriors Switch Edition announced. But yeah I hadn't even thought about how co-op worked on Wii U. It was amazing to play that way. I hope Split screen won't feel bad on Switch. I don't think I minded so much on Fire Emblem Warriors, so I should be okay.

What I really want is save transfer from the Wii U version but it's probably not happening.

Re: CPU Exploits Meltdown And Spectre Could Potentially Affect Nintendo Switch

WillTheLion

I'm of the opinion that I'd rather this had been kept quiet instead of advertising this to the world at large, ya know that group that will contain the people with malicious intent. Computers have been fine for over 10 years with this in it's current state, if the big companies hadn't made so much noise about it we could have just gone on without taking any performance hit on devices that use these processors. Future computers could have just been fixed on the hardware level and it would have eventually been fixed that way.

I hope this doesn't hurt the Switche's snappy fast home screen/games.

Re: Review: The End Is Nigh (Switch)

WillTheLion

@terostrike Haha so it's not super frequent. Fair enough. Truth is I play BoI all the time in front of my 2 year old, but he just hit the stage where he's started mimicking everything he hears. The last thing I want his grandma to hear is him saying that word. Haha.

My wife always is telling me to watch my mouth around him. But at least I hope to have some control over my own mouth. Thanks for all the responses!

Re: Review: Yooka-Laylee (Switch eShop)

WillTheLion

I'm glad that the game seems to be running really well. I've ignored so many sales both physical and digital for this game on PS4/XB1 because I wanted to be able to take it with me on the go. Now I just have to keep waiting for this to go on sale or to get a physical version. I've waited months ignoring other sales, I think I can wait a few more for a sale here.
