Physical video game specialist, Limited Run Games, has two new games listed as “coming soon” on its website. Previously revealed in June, these new titles are Dust: An Elysian Tale and Yooka-Laylee.
Dust will cost $29.99 and pre-orders go live on 31st August. Playtonic’s 3D platformer will be available to preorder on 3rd September for a total of $49.99. Preorders for both games close later in September and both games will include full colour manuals. The Dust version also has a reversible cover, which is explained in a bit more detail below:
This release features reversible cover artwork and a full-color manual. The cover that is sealed facing outwards has been randomized by our factory. If you order two copies we will make sure to send you one of each sealed variant.
Here's a statement about the pricing of Yooka-Laylee as well:
Please note that the higher price is due to this title's eShop price of $39.99 (most games we sell are priced at $19.99 or less on the eShop).
As always with Limited Run Games, these releases are in short supply. Once both have sold out, that’s it. Each release will be numbered to slot in with the collection, and all releases can be identified by a certified stamp on the back of the cover.
Do either of these physical releases interest you? Will you be pre-ordering these games? Tell us below.

I've been waiting for news on Yooka-Laylee...but now I'm not too pleased to see that it's going to cost $50. I was expecting $30.
And now people who have been BEGGING for a physical release are going to complain that it's too expensive.
I've been holding out for the physical of Yooka Laylee but $50 is extreme considering most retailers now have the PS4 and Xbox versions for about £8!
From the Limited Run website:
"Please note that the higher price is due to this title's eShop price of $39.99 (most games we sell are priced at $19.99 or less on the eShop)."
@King-K-Rool Thanks, I've added that in.
Eh, expensive.
Still, I want Yooka-Laylee so there’s not much else I can do about it.
It's hard to justify buying Yooka-Laylee now when Odyssey has been out for nearly a year and there is still plenty for me to do.
I'm still a little tempted, but the game has pretty much dropped off my radar, so I could go either way.
@Tibob but it is! I see no problem on complaining.
Is Dust already on the eshop? I am surprised I missed it.
@setezerocinco
People asking for a physical release now have it.
Expecting it to be cheaper than the eshop version is just delusional.
@King-K-Rool
Cheaper than in the eShop? Well, that was very optimistic thinking
Yooka-laylee's team don't seem to understand marketing. They released a game full of faults and had to reduced the PS and xbox version. So Switch owners had to wait for a better version and then we're asked to pay almost full price for it, even though updated reviews were still not that favourable.
It stayed at that price for a year before getting a discount and then it went back up.
It would have sold far more copies if it had been released at a lower price. But those gamers, like me who were waiting for the game were turned off by the price and reviews.
I guess gamers who don't read reviews or those who like setting fire to bank notes will buy it.
Limited Run Games has a release schedule of when they will be opening and closing pre-orders for their known games.
For example, West of Loathing pre-orders end on August 31st, the same day Dust pre-orders open.
And Golf Story pre-orders will open on September 28th, whilst Yooka-Laylee pre-orders will close on October 1st.
My plan is to pre-order West of Loathing and Dust simultaneously on August 31st, and then Golf Story and Yooka-Laylee simultaneously on September 28th.
@zool
You need to understand that Limited Run Games is not about marketing games so much as collector's pieces or physical enthusiasts, and also that the Switch version of Yooka-Laylee required its own dedicated porting process. It costs as much as it does for such reasons.
Im getting Yooka Laylee.
If it were worth $50 then it'd be a different story. Not getting it.
I'm really tempted to buy that Yooka-Laylee for Switch so I can play it on the go but man that price is high when it cost $18-$20 new on PS4/Xbox One (both being systems I own). I've seen it for around $10 used as well. So the question that remains is... "Is it worth $40 dollars more for a portable version?"
I want it physical so that the game can be played on my Switch and my wife's Switch. Because there's no way I'm buying two digital copies at $40 a pop.
I'm hoping that a cool collector's edition is announced that helps justify the price a bit more (but knowing the current price it's likely that such an edition would just be $80 or more. It's a shame really because that's exactly the price I want to avoid by not buying digital.
@Tibob I feel that if they'd left it at $40 (equal to the eshop price) then it would have been more fair. (Even though the eshop version also feels highly over priced.
DUST is a MUST
@Tibob it is delusional to pay an absurd price for a game that was released back in April. I would pay the Switch tax with pleasure at launch date.
@RupeeClock The game was a shambles when is was released. Why release a game without proper testing unless it had gone over budget.
A downloaded game has no value to the gamer if its quality is below par. So value for money is important and hopefully reviewers will guide us on this. Yooka-Laylee does not come across as value for money. A physical copy at a budget price would have sold far more copies in the early days and made more profit for the team. Limited additions are a cop-out. Gamers who want a physical copy should not be ripped off.
Definitely getting Golf Story when that goes on sale, but I can't justify £39+shipping for Yooka-Laylee. For a game that was supposed to be focused on a Nintendo platform it's a joke that it didn't get a proper widespread physical release. Will either pick it up cheap on Xbox (it's £5 at Sainsbury's right now!) or in a Switch eShop sale.
@WillTheLion
There's a reason games are usually more expensive at retail, even more so with a limited run.
@setezerocinco
If six months later you're not interested in the game anymore, then you just saved money. Good for you ! You can invest it in the next game that you'll have forgotten about six months from now.
@Tibob haha, I will buy it anyway, but it is expensive.
I'm in Europe and the 15$ shipping is steep. Does anybody know an alternative?
@tameshiyaku
The eshop.
Yooka-Laylee is on sale for €12,99 on PSN.
WHAT THE HELL NINTENDO/Team 17!
I want this game on the Switch, but not this way!
@vanYth Yeah! I realized that I hadn't actually checked the eShop price in a while (had no interest as I was waiting for the physical version)... I assumed the digital versions of this would be cheaper by now though, considering how cheap a brand new physical PS4 or Xbox copy is. Can't wait for that all-digital future...
@Tibob haha, cute. Like my games on cartridge.
@tameshiyaku Then your only alternative would be really lucky and find it on ebay in the future. (Highly unlikely it will be cheaper than directly from LRG) LRG games cost what they cost, and you don't really find them cheaper.
I can't believe YL never had a physical release on Switch before. Playtonic spent 2 years telling us they were personally making YL on Wii U the best it could be while they farmed out the PS4 and Xbox1 versions to Team 17. Then on the very day in the same article they announced the release date on PS4 and Xbox1 as an aside they said they were canceling the Wii U version, even though that's where a lot of their kickstarter backer money came from, Nintendo fans. We later found out they were never really working on a Wii U version b/c it wouldn't work b/c of the engine, they were just blowing smoke up our buts for 2 years. Then the ported PS4 and X1 versions release on discs long before the Switch version is ready. And most of those discs cost $20 by the time it releases on Switch for $40. And now I find out Switch never even hot a physical release from Playtonic after all of that?
Don't give Playtonic any of your money, the game isn't even that good, they don't deserve it. Borrow it or rent it or buy it used, maybe on sale some day for $5. $50 is insane.
I might consider pulling the trigger on a physical version of Yooka Laylee if I hadn’t just finished the game to 100%. Too little, too late.
I realized when they announced this for Limited Run Games that it was going to be more expensive than the eShop. I'll definitely still get this though, since I've waited this long
@Tibob To put this in perspective since I am one such person: This game ships from the United States, so I have to pay not only the $40, but $10 in shipping... then I have a 50% chance of having to pay up to $30 in customs taxes when it crosses into the EU, unless I paid those upfront, because that's how it is with electronics, you could take a chance on not paying the tax and get away with it, but then some countries are less lenient than others when such packages come from select countries like the US (Japan parcels rarely get controlled however).
Anyway $80 a game that is available for like ten times less on other platforms, yes, even for someone who wanted a physical release badly, yes, it IS expensive. What we wanted was the same treatment as other platforms though, an ACTUAL physical release in local retail outlets. Short of having this, this solution may be better than nothing, but it's far from ideal for a lot of people.
I really like Yooka Laylee... Yeah... It's a bit hard to play without mini map, sometimes feels like work trying to get things accomplished, and I am kind of stuck right now not knowing where to go but I really get what it was and is trying to do. Honestly if they add that map I think it would make a WORLD OF DIFFERENCE. Anyway, Yooka Laylee feels just like Banjo Kazooie and that makes me happy since I cant play the latter in any form right now.
Nice to see Dust still getting some love.
Jeez why $50 for Yooka??
50 for Yooka Laylee?! If I'll ever get it (wich I am not that sure since it doesn't seem THAT great) I'll get the download-version, when its hugely discounted!
@RupeeClock Agreed. Also they need to realize that it is actually Team17 who owns the publishing rights to Yooka-Laylee, even on the Switch version.
@WillTheLion don't forget the shipping costs
I backed the game and tbh all backers should’ve had the option to upgrade to physical copy, or maybe a discount on the physical version if you are a backer. Also play tonic should release this in Europe for physical too
I'm pre-ordering Dust and I don't even own a Switch yet. It feels weird buying a game for a system I don't own yet and have no idea when I'm going to be able to afford to buy, but I am pretty confident that one way or another I'll get a Switch someday and when that day comes I'll thank myself for having bought this game. =)
@RudyC3 I'm a victim of the EU import canendrum myself too, and yes : 80$ for a game is really expensive. I personally don't understand why bother to import a game you can get digitally for less that half that price (at least on sale).
I get your regret that it didn't get a full release back in the day, but I think you realise that :
> pushing back the PS / Xbox / PC release to wait for the Switch version was not possible
> releasing the game physically simultaneously as digitally on Switch would have been done if possible
> having a full blast physical release on Switch today would be plain suicide.
YL is not worth $50 on any platform - or format.
I'm honestly not that bothered with Yooka Laylee anymore. Used to be but there's been a lot more water under the bridge since then.
@The_ghostmen I hadn't actually ever ordered from them. I'm considering it now but I hadn't realized that it shipping costs as well. I had hoped that they had free shipping in the US.
@Tibob They did release the game physically on PS4/XB1/PC alongside the digital releases on the same platforms. They just didn't want to in this case, but they also could have, and it would have sold well. Even if it meant putting out only one print, or two if the first one proved succesful enough, like Atlus tends to do for example, it would still have been successful enough. Look at Crash Bandicoot Trilogy, in the UK, the Switch and XB1 versions sold pretty evenly and held the top spot of the retail charts for quite a long time despite the game coming out for those systems a full year after the PS4 original.
It's a matter of will, and they were not willing. I may still get the game eventually in a digital sale, or if I'm lucky to come across it in a local store that would have preordered a batch of copies themselves off Limited Run (I know at least one local store that does that on occasions), and the extra cost they take on it isn't too high, then I may get one this way. However, the higher cost of getting it straight from Limited Run is just too high, when I could invest that money in getting TWO regular retail Switch games in September instead, like Xeno 2 Torna and Dragon Ball Fighter Z, for the same price. Lots of awesome games are yet to come out this year and I won't be able to get them all as it is.
EDIT: I kinda wish now that Super Rare Games had handled Yooka Laylee instead, since they're based in the EU. I know they're expensive, but not nearly as expensive as if I had to get it from Limited Run, all counted. Plus, Super Rare ships when they say the game ships, not months later.
@Alto I totally agree, a map would make all the difference in Yooka Laylee. I think I was spoilt by Odyssey’s map, trying to remember where stuff was in those large YL levels just became too tiresome after a while.
Quite frankly Yooka-Laylee was a disappointment. This coming from someone who felt the Banjo series was a bit overrated in the first place. I'm much more looking forward to A Hat in Time. At least it adds it's own unique spin on the genre as opposed to just trying to mimic (and fail) a specific series from a decade ago.
I've been waiting for this opportunity to get YL, so I'll definitely be jumping on this when it's available

@Tibob
“And now people who have been BEGGING for a physical release are going to complain that it's too expensive.”
Great prediction. Absolutely spot on.
@RupeeClock you can hold orders on limited run. I’m in England and that’s what I’m doing. I ordered one full price and then found out I can order and hold and every month hold the next order and then pay a reduced combined shipping rate.
Only really works for international buyers but so glad I found out.
@Vriess Are we sure it's not 12.99 on PS4 because no one wants it on PS4?
@Stocksy
Thanks for the heads up, I'm definitely going to want that.
Too expensive for a not particularly good game, especially with shipping. Unless you’re a die hard I wouldn’t bother. If you haven’t played it before and have been on the fence I think you could do much worse than waiting for a sale and getting the game for less digitally.
I have Yooka Laylee physical on Xbox one and digitally on switch already, so I will probably just pass. It's disappointing, but I can't justify buying the game three times.
@Liam_Doolan did you guys really get triggered and remove my profile picture? cause I had to re upload it
