In July, Angry Mob Games gave us a glimpse of the new Brawlout fighter, Yooka-Laylee. It was evident from the trailer, Playtonic's duo would feature their trademark attacks. This new Gamescom clip essentially shows more of the same.
What's most interesting, though, is the part at the end of the video. Laylee the bat makes a comment about expecting more, having worked with a "blue" guy (Shovel Knight) in their own game. This subtle reference to Shovel Knight in Brawlout isn't a first, with the Dead Cells character striking a familiar pose with a shovel. Brawlout is out now on the Switch, and the Yooka-Laylee fighter update is expected to be released soon.
Take a look at the trailer above, and tell us in the comments if you're pumped about Yooka-Laylee joining the battle.

Yes! Been waiting for this!
I might cave and buy Brawlout if it continues to receive this kind of support.
Has brawlout improved much since release?
Oooh, they've got my attention now. I want this. Be right back.
They could add Banjo and I still wouldn’t buy this.
Never played this game myself, but keep seeing really negative comments about it. What's wrong with it?
Attempting to have fun playing Yooka-Laylee was enough of a battle for me.
Forgive my disloyalty, but I’m opting for Smash Bros. Ultimate.
this games trying to hold on lol, when smash comes out, every other fighting game may as well pack it up and call it quits
Brawlout AKA I'll start my own Smash Bros, with BlackJack and hookers
@JHDK ouch
Hey maybe they'll include an update that fixes the minute long load times FOR EVERY FIGHT jk I know they won't.
I enjoy the characters, and gameplay. Unfortunately I don't play the game whatsoever after a few hours into it, because the load times are torturous. this thing sorely needs a fix if they hope for it to compete with SB at any price point.
I might get this game, it looks like there's lots of support and it will be a good way to practice smash before smash actually comes out lol. (Since I'm not gonna play my Wii u anymore most likely )
Also I don't have any fighters on my switch so hey what the heck
@uhhhhhhhh u should try pocket fighters, it's awesome
No desire to play BRAWLOUT but was kinda hoping we’d see them in smash... oh well.
If I were these guys, I'd squeeze in some more sales before Smash Ultimate hits. It's going to be a really hard sell after that, especially if Smash gets DLC support.
Is it just me or is single player very challenging? I was able to pass (I forget what it is called) the "single player campaign/arcade mode" a couple times, but man was it a challenge. Also, the loading times are quite offputting.
I forgot to mention that unlocking stuff takes FOREVER ....
This looks cool, but I'll be sticking to Smash.
@boop22 Why would other fighters need to pack it up when Smash Ultimate will be more party than fighter?
I have a love/hate relationship with this game... the part that bugs me the most is how long it takes to unlock new characters. We’re talking many many MANY hours in between each one... and then over half of the roster is just clones. Like they’re just reskins but with only slight different stats????? This game still holds a place in my heart but those parts bug me so much. Yookalalee is a very welcome addition since he’s not a clone!!! Finally some diversity!!!
A lot of commenters here are so narrow minded. By the way it’s not this game vs Smash, the switch is allowed two games from the same genre. No wonder we don’t get the third party support we want when if Nintendo makes a similar game we talk as if the other one should be banned!
Ah well, no chance they will be in smash then, shame
Brawlout strikes me as trying to get attention by adding popular indie characters, but having no memorable characters of its own.
Really the only reason people are showing interest now is because of the additions like Dead Cells and Guacamelee.
Sweet!
@jtmnm Me too.
bought it on the recent sale, mostly because of the Drifter and the prospect of more "indie guests" but I was never into SSB and don't quite get this genre...
I really like the characters and overall interface
but loading times and the grind to unlock anything make so difficult to have any fun with the game
Sorry, but this game is bad. I hoped it would fill in the time before smash, but it just isn't fun at all. Also, love that Switch version gets the highest sales but is always on the lowest priority for updates. Good stuff.
In the next update load times will be improved and the character unlock system will be based on leveling up the main character to receive the variants. And all stages will be unlocked as well.
@quinnyboy58 Is it narrow minded if we simply don't see the value in it? On it's own, it seems like a game I'd buy and play once, because neither the quality nor the content are there to sustain it. There are better Smash alternatives that simply haven't made it to the Switch yet.
Also, if a company like Square, Capcom, or Sega made a serious attempt at a party fighter, I would be very interested. Just like I'm very interested in Team Sonic Racing despite having MK8 and why I bought Crash Bandicoot despite Super Mario Odyssey existing.
I'm willing to support third party games, just not blindly. It either needs to provide something significantly different or be of a comparable quality to what is already on the market. For example, I'm not just going to buy Sonic Forces so Sega can make more Switch games, because I think it's a bad game. But I'm buying the CE version of Valkyria Chronicles 4, because it's a good game.
I'm apparently not the only one that thinks this, because their are plenty of third party games that sell better on the Switch than the PS4, despite the disparity in install base. There are also games like Octopath, a Switch exclusive, that can't stay on the shelves.
