Saber Interactive's NBA Playgrounds had a bumpy launch on the Nintendo Switch, with no online play available on release. Eventually this mode was patched in months later – after owners had been compensated with a free game – and at the start of this year the updated Enhanced Edition arrived, further refining the overall experience and adding even more content.
Now it seems Saber could be ready to move on from this series of tremulous events, with the Australian Classification Board yesterday revealing a sequel is on the way.
The date of this classification roughly aligns with the launch of NBA Playgrounds in May last year. Regardless of how soon the sequel could be arriving, like any good second entry in a series, we expect this one to build upon the foundations of the first game. Maybe it can even win over enthusiasts of NBA Jam.
Let us know in the comments if you would be excited about a potential sequel to NBA Playgrounds.

I'm surprised at this I wonder if it's just an overhauled version of the first.
I liked the EE. So if they expand and build upon that, I'll definitely buy after some reviews.
I'll be waiting on reviews for that one. The last game was a 6 out of 10 at best for me. Blocking and tackling feels far too random in the game.
Game needs more depth to keep players coming back to it too.
I loved the first one - did a lot right - I think it would have been much better but I think the switch issues with patches actually ruined their plans.
I am still playing the first and so so close to unlocking everyone.
They need to think about a season mode and perhaps a generic training gym for every NBA team just to easily expand the content.
I would happily play a full season on the playgrounds - select a franchise and have access to use any of the players you have unlocked, it would be a good way to stop the unlocking of the cards to feel like a grind.
Offline 3pt mode.
Expanded roster - I know they had issues with licensing and that is what it is - but they could have had more duplicates for the players that played on more than one team - the more merrier.
I expect they will have a couple of the legends they didn't have last year on board to sell this version.
Either way day one purchase for me.
Loved the first. Here’s to another!
I reserve judgement....
Wasn't the first game supposed to win over NBA Jam fans?
🤔
To hell with NBA Playgrounds. I'm taking my ball (and my shaq Fu 2) and going home
Loved the first one and still play it now. There's a trailer for the sequel on PlayStation's YouTube channel right now.
The first game wasn't perfect, but I enjoyed it a lot. It's a great game to sit on the couch and play while watching TV in the background, or quick games as a passenger in a car. Plus, as an old NBA Jam fan, playing this with my brother and cousins hit nostalgia big time for me.
I think we need more arcade sports games and fewer "simulations." I feel like games like Madden, NBA2K, WWE2K, etc., all focus so much on being perfected simulations that they get bloated and forget the most important aspect of a video game: fun.
Give me a new NFL Street, Mario Super Strikers, Mario Super Sluggers and yes, more Playgrounds.

@RyanSilberman It did me, I am a massive NBA jam fan and I think it captured some of what made NBA jam great and also did lots of things better. I played NBA playgrounds way more than I did NBA Jam fire.
I wish they made a game that played and sounded like the last NBA Jam game, but looked like this one. Also, they should get better announcers, they were pretty annoying with the constant mockery.
