@yosher Shmup Junkie on YouTube is a great resource for newcomers (and seasoned veterans) to the genre. And if you'd like to go deeper, check out The Electric Underground - both channels are highly recommended. Enjoy
Another great channel for deep dive content on shmups & beat 'em ups is The Electric Underground (who has also written several shmup reviews for Nintendo Life).
@The_Pixel_King I agree! Also love Rolling Gunner (+DLC) and Psikyo classics like Gunbird 2 & Strikers 1945 II.
It's easy to buy games on the eShop of other countries - literally just change your home country in account settings, buy the game(s) using the appropriate currency then change it back once finished. Keeps all games under one account. Will be doing that once ESP Ra.De. Psi goes on sale on the Japanese eShop.
@60frames-please - Crimzon Clover is a labour of love created by Clover-TAC-, one of the world's top Shmup players (he holds / held the Mushihimesama score world record). Crimzon Clover is his love letter to Cave.
Been on my radar for ages, so time to check it out. The Core Pack (£14.39) looks to have everything I'd need, and is priced well below the previous eShop price (£28.99). It's just a shame the replay theatre is locked behind the Fantasy+ subscription paywall, but not a major loss.
FYI - here's the description for both DLC:
Core Pack: Gives you access to several game modes: Arcade mode, Versus mode for local play (including standard and team battle), Survival modes (including 4 sub-modes), and the over-the-top Boss Rush mode where you assemble a deck of powerups against increasingly crazy CPU characters. The Core Pack also lets you send and receive direct challenges from friends in both standard and team battle modes.
Collectors Pack: Get everything in the Core Pack PLUS 13,500 gems, one year of Fantasy+ membership, the High Roller costume for Lum the Gambling Panda, and the exclusive "Party Time" KO effect.
@PapaMurphy It will live and die on how well the various in-game / skills development systems work, and how fun they are to use. Hopefully they'll be a strong strategic element to it. The premise is interesting and a refreshing change of approach from most football / soccer games, so if they get it right, could be a winner. We'll know soon enough!
Kudos to the Nintendo Life team for maintaining a high level of reviews. The last month or so especially has seen a ridiculous amount of top quality games released - grateful for all your efforts keeping us all in the know 🙌
Updating my recommended list of games on sale at their lowest eshop prices to include Voez and Deemo. Both are glorious games that will put a smile on your face!

@Sim1 Touch screen would be amazing but it still works - takes practice to build up the required muscle memory. Wouldn't surprise me if it was an intentional design choice to add to the chaos!

@ShaiHulud All the player feedback I've seen so far suggests load times on Switch are significantly better than PS4. Likely the result of many months of iterative optimisation to squeeze every drop of performance out of the console. Switch loads times are still way slower than PC, buts that's to be expected.
Having played this on Steam, I concur with the review - it's a solid 8/10.
The combo potential is nuts! Check these out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kcV8hAZaWNs
Looking forward to playing another brilliant 60fps handheld brawler 👊
My first time ever playing any Xenoblade title and loving it. Don't know what all the fuss is about graphics - the art direction is spectacularly good and it looks stunning!
Will be my first time playing this, so don't have experience of playing previous versions to compare it to. Despite remarks that visual fidelity hasn't seen the bump most wanted, all seem to agree with DF that the Definitive Edition is still the best the game has ever looked. Looking forward to experiencing what all the rave reviews are about tomorrow
Great game. Homage gameplay with some nice modern additions (like being able to roll up and down screen to escape trouble). Plus the combo potential is nuts! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kcV8hAZaWNs
The RAGE meter is another interesting, but potentially divise mechanic. Takes ages to build up but is massively OP.
I enjoy this and SOR4 for different reasons. Day 1 buy for me.
The Code Mystics port of SamSho V Special is exceptional (the same team behind the excellent ports of The Last Blade 2 and Garou: Mark of the Wolves). If they get near that standard across all games, this will definitely have my interest

@sfb Yes, Bullet Heaven is excellent!
Re: Days After Launch, Mushihimesama Has Been "Temporarily Suspended" From Sale On Switch (Europe)
@Darlinfan 1.5 is Blue Label. Black Label is part of Mushihimesama Futari (X360) and is yet to be ported.

Unsurprising as the game launched full of bugs 🦋

@BloodNinja Blue Label (Version 1.5) is included.

@OorWullie A projector for TATE - that's genuis. I have a projector and that never occurred to me. Great shout!
Shmup junkie has some solid content too - not so keen on the comedy skits but clearly passionate and conscientious.
Also worth checking out Shmups on Switch

Re: Cave's Acclaimed Shooter, Mushihimesama, Is Out Now On Switch
Great game. Looks gorgeous too. Have this on Steam but TATE + Flip Grip may be too strong to resist double dipping.
Also worth mentioning Crimzon Clover (Cave Lover) - easily one of the best Shmups on eShop - is currently 20% off
