Update 2: More good news! The game's publisher, Live Wire, has now confirmed that the game is once again available on the European and Australian eShops.
Update: We've been in touch with the PR firm handling Mushihimesama on Switch, and have been told some good news:
The PEGI rating got changed from PEGI 3 to PEGI 7, and it's been taken down temporarily so the store page could be updated. It's expected to return to the EU Nintendo Switch eShop any day now.
Original Story [Wed 23rd Jun, 2021 14:30 BST]: Last week, we reported on the launch of Cave's acclaimed shooter, Mushihimesama. After an appearance in the Japanese Nintendo Direct, the game surprise-launched on the Switch eShop, ready for retro shooter fans to download and enjoy immediately after the show.
Unfortunately, since that launch, the game has disappeared from the European eShop. Its removal was first spotted by fans yesterday, meaning it was only available in the region for six days before being pulled; the game's publisher, Live Wire, has acknowledged its disappearance, stopping short of providing any explanation.
When we see games mysteriously vanish from the eShop like this, it's often down to an issue regarding its age rating. If you were hoping to download the game to give it a go, you might just have to be patient – although it does appear to be available as normal in other regions if you have a North American or Japanese account, for example.

Wanted to get it today, this sucks.
A much deserved and yet unjust suspension
@smithyo why? I have it and i don't see the reason.
Wonder what this is all about?
Strange. I might get it though if it returns, I'd like a good bullet hell game. Unless somebody can recommend another good one on the Switch.
@Yosher Been playing shmups for 30 years...wait for Mushihimesama and save your hard earned money. If you don't have it yet, Ikaruga would be another top-tier bullet hell that is already on the shop. Other than that, as far as bullet hell there isn't much on the eshop, yet!
@BloodNinja Hadn't heard of it before (or I forgot about it), but I looked it up real quick and it does look quite good. I think I'll go for it. Thank you, very much appreciated!
@Yosher Get ready for a good ride! I've been playing it since it's Gamecube release and it STILL challenges me! The soundtrack is particularly good, as well! Try double play when you are ready, it just bends the mind to oblivion...heh!
@BloodNinja I guess that's enough to get your official Ninja seal of approval huh?
Sounds pretty good to me, and it looks to be two player too. I can rock out with my cousin then. Neat!
@Yosher There are a good amount of shmups on the Switch, actually. Try Crimzon Clover.
@Yosher Crimzon Clover World Explosion is essential if you have any slight interest in the genre. Then there's Rolling Gunner wich is phenomenal. Caves Progear on Capcom Arcade... Sisters Royal from Alpha Denshi is also worth. Jamestown+ its also great.
Be careful with Ikaruga. Its phenomenal but a different approach to any other shmup or bullet hell.
@Yosher @BloodNinja Ikaruga really is brilliant. There’s a reason it was so well received on release!
@Yosher,
Crimzon Clover World EXplosion is absolutely fantastic, and is currently 20% off in Europe.
Project Starship X (not to be confused with the previous Project Starship) is also great, though not on sale at the moment.
Raiden V is 70% off right now and worth it at that price, but it's not as good as Raiden IV.
Hyper Sentinel also good if you played older 8-bit shooters like Uridium - and it's from the same publisher as Uridium. It's also on sale and super cheap.
Removed - trolling
Phew. Got it just in time. It looks and plays so much better on the switch than it did on the ipad. Beaufiful bugs
@Yosher NINJA APPROVED!!!
@sikthvash dude, wtf. I'm from europe and there's not any connotation. This is not the place where you can buy guns in any supermarket.
@Oppyz666 I bought an M6 from Tesco just the other day. In the same aisle as the pickles.
@Oppyz666 sikthvash was making a joke.
In any case. if they can get the optics right on this, it is worth re-instating.
@sikthvash Did you see the deal they had in Aldi? Free AK-47 when you buy 2 packets of Ainsley Harriott couscous!
Oh crap, it is available in NA. And here I was jealous of EU having it but not us. Is this the one with the crazy final boss? Version 1.something?
@nessisonett 😂 Daaaaaaaaamn, must have missed that! I miss the days of Ready, Steady, Cock That Gun
@sikthvash
So what happened to Fighter's History?
@BloodNinja
Trying to get into Crimson Clover at the minute, but my god it's busy visually.
@DenimDemon sorry adopts pedantic voice - Sisters Royale is Alfa System of Shikigami No Shiro fame. Fun little game as well.
Cracking shmup, glad I bought this on launch. Not entirely sure what the issue could be though, although the suggestion it could annoy PETA cracks me up.
@SpringDivorce yes. Alpha System
@DenimDemon
Can't get my head around Crimson Clover for the life of me though. I've been told the arrange mode is a little easier on the eyes?
@SpringDivorce Incredibly tempted by this. Got it on my wishlist, but Legend of Mana and my wife's birthday are kinda taking priority. Is it that good? (bear in mind that although I love bullet-hell shmups, I kinda suck at them.)
@MrFox it's better than Ikaruga. Lot of people say that Ikaruga is "bullet hell everrrr" but it isn't.
This version includes Original, Arrange, 1.5 and a new one called Novice (easier as the name suggest). Each version has it's own 3 difficulties (Normal, Maniac and Ultra) and 1.5 has another setup in top that let's you begin fully powered in exchange to enemies firing a lot more.
Besides that, has training mode and time attack mode, TATE and nearly 20 different wallpapers. You can even made the wallpapers change every few minutes to have them vary.
It is a really good version. Probably the better.
@Tedikuma @DenimDemon @nessisonett @martapp Thank you all for the suggestions as well! I'll surely be looking into them all and try one or maybe even several. Very much appreciated!
@Oppyz666 Well... I was asking about Crimson Clover lol, I grabbed Mushihimesama on launch, but yes, I agree, tons of game modes, variations, it's probably the best version out there. OST is astounding too, another reason I grabbed it asap.
Unsurprising as the game launched full of bugs 🦋
@yosher Shmup Junkie on YouTube is a great resource for newcomers (and seasoned veterans) to the genre. And if you'd like to go deeper, check out The Electric Underground - both channels are highly recommended. Enjoy

@C0NNERS
Great recommendations. Bullet Heaven is another excellent channel covering shmups:
https://youtube.com/c/StudioMudprints
@MrFox ooppss. But, also buy Crimzon Clover. Best version, also. Someday will come to Steam, but meanwhile, Switch exclusive and one of the best bullet hells ever.
@Darlinfan 1.5 is Blue Label. Black Label is part of Mushihimesama Futari (X360) and is yet to be ported.
@sfb Yes, Bullet Heaven is excellent!
@smithyo Why is it a deserved suspension?
@SpringDivorce Something about that one turned me off, I couldn't get into it, either. Good luck!
Downloaded it already, in the NA region.
So I'm guessing it's still available in PANAMA.
Though I though Esp.ra.dei was supposed to be also released. It seems to be in Japan, but is it coming later to the west?
I swear, every time this happens in Europe it has something to do with the rating.
@KingMike i don't think so. Esp ra de psi was released some time ago in japan (two years?), and the port was made by m2. Livewire seems to have faith in pal and americas, but m2 doesn't. But at least you can set up a japanese account and with a prepaid card you can buy it. Is not like you need a lot of japanese knowledge.
Btw, someone knows if G-Darius HD is going to make it overseas? Dariusburst is coming next month, but G-Darius doesn't seem to follow the same trend
@nessisonett hey nessie, new pfp?! : D
@TohruDX Hahaha yep, everyone’s been saying the same!
i love this game and you should buy it if you have not!
@Oppyz666 I'm remembering I should already have a Japanese account from my New 3DS. So would I just need to set up another user and link it to the login details for that account (if I can find them ), or is it more complicated?
Can't wait for it to being available again! Hopefully most of the Cave games will follow! Maybe even a physical collection…?
It is back up for purchase now!
Glad I grabbed it day 1. Hopefully, this won't delay any of the other Cave releases.
Been waiting for this. Will grab it now it's back up!
Grabbed it last night and other than needing to rotate my tv 90 degrees for tate mode this is epic. I can get rid of the xbox360 now and finally use only current gen(other than jamma rainbow islands obvs).
@Rayquaza2510 Did you end up getting it? The US physical release of Cotton arrived at my doorstep today! 😃 I'll get Mushihimesama before too long...
@BlubberWhale skipped it in the end because of other reasons.
@Rayquaza2510 I did too, for now, but I’m almost 100% sure to get it at some point.
