Re: Kojima-Free Konami Is Doing Just Fine, Thanks Very Much

Waninoko

To be perfectly honest, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links is actually a quite solid title. The matches are quick and fun, P2W aspect isn't that much annoying, at least right now (read: I managed to snag some ultra rare cards and create a decent deck without spending a penny), and PvP/battling with friends is a blast.

Re: Poll: Does Nintendo Switch Need Streaming Apps and a Web Browser, Or Is It All About Games?

Waninoko

This was the deal breaker for me, to be honest. First the high price of the unit and the JoyCon/chargers thing, no built-in chat, and now this? So in other words I'll need to have my phone, my tablet, my laptop, my dog, my wallet, my fridge and my lawyer next to me, because Switch literally can't do anything other than games? What is this? 1990? Nintendo Game Boy HD? Hell, at this rate you might as well remove the games from the system, because "I have other devices to play on."

Okay, rude jokes aside, Switch costs 1400 PLN here. I can get a decent laptop for work, or a nice set of PS4, two joypads and three games. I am definitely not going to spend THIS much on a toy just for games, Nintendo or not. Sorry, I tried to stay positive about this, but the recent news pretty much drove me away from the Switch right now. Maybe I'll pick it up, after a huge (and I mean really huge) price slash.

Of course I respect the opinion of others about the "it's a game console!" thing. I just personally would like to do a little bit more with a device I spent so much money on. But again, remember, that's just my opinion, you don't have to agree with it.

Re: Video: Let's Weigh Up the Good & Bad Things About the Nintendo Switch

Waninoko

One MAJOR bad thing from me? Switch's price in Poland.

It's 1400 PLN. Breath of the Wild (the only game people seem to be interested in, as seen on Nintendo Polish FB profile) is priced at 250 PLN. So, you will need to shell around 1600 PLN (if you'll be able to nab some discounts) in order to play Switch, which is fantastic, as 1600 PLN is the ENTIRE monthly income for some people in this hellhole of a country. Of course getting some Joycon AC adapters or a Pro controller is out of the question.

To put that into perspective: for 1600 PLN I can buy a PS4/XBone with three games and accessories, or a decent notebook for work.

While I work as an engineer, and can buy a Switch any time, any place, I don't see many NS boxes flying off the shelves here... at least not until some discount.

@shaneoh
He's actually correct, you can use the devtools/Firebug to change the content of any website, though these are just in your local session only, and are gone as soon as you hit that Refresh button. Working as a QA/security engineer, I'm doing this kind of stuff all the time.

Here's a comment you totally wrote 327 million years ago, right?

Re: D-Day Comes For The Game Boy Color As It Finally Hosts Wolfenstein 3D

Waninoko

@peeks Because it's a fun challenge (you will learn more about Assembler and memory optimization routines than you'd ever wanted to know that way) and there are still people out there playing on their retro consoles, who are willing to get a fresh game/nice port, even though the official support ended years ago.
I, for example, still play my trusty Dreamcast (it's his 17th birthday soon, still alive and kicking! Now that's quality!), and I'm very excited for some new indie titles coming on my favourite console soon!

Re: Video: The History Of Croc, The 3D Platformer Which Partly Influenced Super Mario 64

Waninoko

I absolutely love Croc! It was the very first 3D platformer I've ever played (back then I only had a PC and a cheap NES clone). Sure, the camera and the controls were clunky at best, but I quickly let it slide, due to charming design, pretty nice challenge and the overall fun factor. Oh and the music, my God, the music. Simply put, it was brilliant, catchy and memorable. Croc OST (at least the PSX version, as the PC/SAT featured less tracks, which were also cut down [damn you, CD digital audio tracks!]) is still among my top N game soundtracks!

Believe it or not, but the Croc micro-scene is still around the internet (or at least used to be). I was a part of it, 'twas really amazing to see a small group of dedicated people do so many awesome things (trying to port Croc to Nintendo DS, doing a HD makeover of the first game's PC port, contacting the developers and actually obtaining a beta version of the game, whoa!). Some lads from Poland are even trying to create a remake of Croc on the Unity engine (Croc Returns be the name). Now that's what you call dedication!

Re: Nintendo Of America Wishes Xbox A Happy 15th Birthday

Waninoko

Yup, still have mine, up and running. After the early death of Dreamcast (which is still my all time favourite!), I was interested in the Xbox, mostly due to SEGA's support (at least in the early days). I didn't get it until much later (it was expensive as all hell in Poland), but it was totally worth it, just for the SEGA exclusives alone - Panzer Dragoon Orta (<3), GunValkyrie, Jet Set Radio Future, Outrun, Otogi, Crazy Taxi 3... not counting all the other amazing ports and exclusives. One mighty fine console!

Re: Random: Game Boy Compatibility Warning Screens Are The Best

Waninoko

@tanookisuit
This is a very cool piece of information you shared with us, I like such facts!

One slight correction, though - the good ol' GBC features a bootstrap ROM, not a BIOS. (it's often mistakenly called a BIOS, but it doesn't really feature any basic in- or output operations).

Re: Turbo Outrun Is The Next Sega 3D Classic In Japan, Three More New Games Coming

Waninoko

Still hoping for some sweet Sonic 3 & Knuckles/Sonic CD 3D action, though Bare Knuckle/Streets of Rage III wouldn't be too shabby either!

Now, another game I'd LOVE to see on the 3DS from Sega, is either Virtua Fighter, Virtua Racing or some sweet Genesis RPGs (Shining Force, Phantasy Star II/IV, Crusader of Centy or Landstalker... a man can dream!)

Re: Xbox One NES Emulator Passes Certification, Could Hit Console In The Next Few Days

Waninoko

@MadAdam81
NES doesn't feature any kind of OS, or even BIOS. When the console is turned on, the CPU immediately starts looking at the reset vector ($FFFC-$FFFD), to check how the game should be started.

And yeah, you're correct - overall the OS/BIOS thing is illegal, that's why no official emulator release was ever bundled with one (it was up to the user to get it, either by illegal means, or by dumping one from the already owned console), but the emulator alone isn't illegal by any means (you don't have to play games on it, you can just use it to try out some homebrew demos/games, or learn to develop stuff, without buying the console and flash cart/coder's cable).

@JLPick
Toe Jam And Earl 3 isn't a Microsoft franchise, the game was developed for the Dreamcast, but when the console bit the dust, they shifted development over to Xbox (as with many other titles, which were intended for the Dreamcast, but ended up on Xbox, as SEGA sticked with the Microsoft for a little while).

Re: Random: Disgruntled Young Pokémon GO Fan Makes Satirical Game About Playing in the Suburbs

Waninoko

Well, I can't really complain that much, there's a spawn point with a Bulbasaur and Cubone near my place, and going just a few blocks further into the neighbourhood can net me some better stuff, like Nidoran, Bellsprout, Meowth, Gastly or Jigglypuff. But yeah, our suburb has a complete abundance of Pidgeys and Weedles. Not to mention the city centre, oh God. Sure, there is a nice Mon here and there, but 90% of the time you'll be running into a damn Drowzee. While cool and good at first ('oh goodie, I'm gonna have a Hypno!!'), it quickly went out of control, and I ended with 418 Drowzee candies.
