This is and has been a serious [removed] move by Nintendo. I hope, upon appeal, someone comes to their freakin senses, because screw Nintendo on this one. Next you won't be able to cosplay Nintendo characters and they'll have Reggie out in a creeper van on Halloween scooping up children wearing homemade costumes. [removed]. Move.
So. How many boards? Still no answer on the article that claims only 4 boards... and in spite of numerous polite inquiries to the author of this review, no answer here either. Neat.
If there are only 4 boards and they announce season passes or dlc, I'm kinda done. Nintendo was the last to start using the scam of dlc... and when they did finally jump onboard they offered real value on top of an already packed game. But this... this would be utter b.s.I was actually looking forward to this reboot on the series.
As for those comparing it to GIF or JIF; there are those who pronounce it correctly - with the hard 'G', and those who are wrong. It is GRAPHIC interchange format, not JRAPHIC interchange format. It's really an industry acronym, didn't start as part of pop culture. In the case of the NES, I think the argument could be made that this pronunciation makes the most sense; system is a soft 's'.
But I think the difference between the two arguments is that the NES is a part of pop culture and we've received no guidance all of these years as to pronunciation. We've had real ownership of the system and its name as fans and gamers.
At the end of the day, it bugs me (as a graphic designer and multimedia artist) when people insist on mispronouncing a tool that I use, whereas I don't care what people call the NES because it comes from a place of love, nostalgia and personal experience.
I was a big SEGA fan in the 90s. Had every system, and all of the must-have titles... and some that weren't must-have. And a huge import collection. I really can't get behind this. There's a Sega Genesis Collection out there that they refuse to bring to the Switch, Shenmue 1 & 2... also not coming to the Switch. But the want Switch owners to part with pricey one-offs? I understand the lineage and that they will be good ports with enhancements, but I really don't appreciate year after year get the shaft by SEGA. The Yakuza release on the Wii U was too little too late for too much with no marketing... on and already dying system... and yet they are using that to justify no Yakuza for the Switch.
They've also had more than enough time to release/re-release the titles fans and others have been begging for decades: The last five Saturn titles (The House of the Dead, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Burning Rangers, Shining Force III, and Magic Knight Rayearth ( yeah... I know: Working designs), remastered or not. All 3 scenarios of Shining Force. Many of the import titles that should have made it here & cancelled 1st party Saturn and Dreamcast titles. They are sitting on a wealth of IPs that never see the light of day while they rehash the same series over and over. How about working with others to also bring a Lunar Collection or a Working Designs series/collection. jrpgs are no longer a super niche genre. I know those are more of a stretch, but another freakin Sonic? And Thunder Force would be better served as a collection, imho; they are all fun and classic in their own way, they were a great series and having them all together would lend perspective to that. But that's just getting picky I guess.
I'll just play my Saturn and Dreamcast with my import collection and have fond memories of those brief moments that SEGA got it right. When they decide to take the Switch and it's fanbase seriously, maybe I'll have time for them.
@Tim_Vreeland I guess I came on board at the right time. I took the 'wait and see' route and it paid off. Now if I had just done that with the warpy, cracky Switch...
(Full disclosure: Kidding... sort of - Mine's warped, but not cracked. I HAVE had the worst issues with joy-con connections though)
@Tim_Vreeland I can only say that mine have been very good to me. Really like them a lot and zero issues. I've been playing the crap out of my old SNES games and they've been a joy. I watch My Life in Gaming. Missed that. Of course, they've got a LOT of content! Haven't watched it all. I've heard them say some pretty good stuff about 8bitdo. Other YouTubers too... and this site. It's why I finally took the plunge. But like I said... I probably haven't gotten through half of their videos. Any idea if the build is different for the matching controllers you get through Analogue? Because like I said, These work great, feel great and I haven't had any issues.
@timson72 8bitdo does sell bluetooth dongles/receivers for retro systems, so that could be an option. But even so, playing classic games (like the Genesis Collection) with the original controllers would totally be worth it.
This is actually pretty freakin awesome. I have probably dozens of classic controllers for these systems in varying conditions. Most are is really good shape, but I've picked up boxes full for a couple of bucks at garage sales, so those are prime candidates. Really cool.
@Savino They do make really good and reliable products. Just Google 8Bitdo reviews and you'll see; 4 stars or better and many happy users. Even reviews on this site are good. As for any comparison to Madcatz, that's ridiculous. 8Bitdo listens to feedback, is responsive and has already released firmware updates for their controllers to address specific feedback they have received. Moreover, their controllers are good enough that Analogue partnered with them for wireless controllers for their 'Super Nt', which I own. The controllers are awesome. And considering one of the Nt's selling points is having nigh on zero lag, you know they were picky about what controllers to offer on their site. The build quality is awesome and I've had zero issues.
@JayJ Oh my. I might never recover from your barbs. How can I live with myself? Sigh. I'm a broken man. Can you ever forgive me? Pleeeeease. (Please note that this was all sarcasm, if you missed it)
Having an opinion is cool. Being dickish about it is not. And I'm not representative of anything and while I alone voiced my irritation with your attempt to bash the game (and the fans of said game), you choose a blanket statement about the 'community'. I'm not an ambassador of any collective, nor do I care what you think of me. But to slam everyone because I chose to be a bit acerbic because I dislike your kind; how adolescent. You did what you did on purpose to illicit a specific response. When you got called on it, you got more insulting.
@pullmyfinger You sir, are ridiculously hyperbolic. 1st of all, the actual statement and lead of the story is about supply in Japan. 2nd, it goes on to speak of Amazon. No one else. And the statement about Amazon is true. Lastly, while Best Buy and Gamestop have some stock online, Target is sold out. Yeah. Sold out. So don't be a self-righteous troll, because you're way off base here.
It's not in stock at most of MY local retailers; That includes the 4 Walmarts, 3 Targets and 2 Gamestops I've checked with. Best Buy has a limited number of the basic release. You can get the Wayfarer Edition through one of Walmart's 'trusted sellers'... for $170. More like trusted scalpers.
It's also listed as a best seller on Walmart's site. 2nd best seller on Best Buy. 1st and 2nd best seller on Gamestop (digital and physical). Yup. Lemmings. Riiiiiight. Nope (by the way, I believe sheep is the comparison you were looking for... but, no).
Well crap. Now I'm super happy I got my Wayfarer's Edition. Preordered as soon as they went live on Best Buy. Got 20% off and used $5 in rewards, so I got it for cheap too! It's a shame that Gamer's Club is going away.
In other news, Square Enix's suggestion to buy digital is super freakin' ridiculous and bad form. If it's sold out and backordered, obviously people want a physical copy. And do they think people are stupid? That they don't know about the eShop? Just all around a stupid statement. 'Hey... we messed up, so why don't you do the thing you didn't want to do until we get our ish together? Then you can buy it again so you get the physical copy you wanted to begin with! K, thanks!'
@Heavyarms55 I hate to be abrupt, but that was the single most uniformed and absolutely ridiculous statement I have ever encounter on this site.
Not to mention, implying that half-assing, rushing, or punting on incomplete/broken games is somehow part of developer's 'design' process is insulting as hell to the industry... especially to those developers who put in all of the extra work to make sure to release as finished of a product as possible. Chatting with indies several times a week (some of which who have day jobs at big dev companies) and having a few friends working for heavy hitters in my area, I can tell you right now; That is crap and not an attitude or approach to their games/product.
I cannot, however, speak to publisher's deadlines and the sort of pressure they exert or the contents of contracts as it relates to deliverables, launch dates or other externalities that force games to market. But game design? No. Just no.
Making adjustments based on consumer feedback - THAT is what updates should be used for. I applaud that. Adding a feature like multiplayer to a solid game... because releasing that feature at launch would have broken the game or been rushed; cool with that too, as long as the core experience was good.
Fixing or actually completing a broken or incomplete game AFTER launch? Not ok.
@Jokerwolf I only had one RRoD, but I caught the retailer in a act of fraud; the system was actually used and had been returned. They packed it up and sold it as new, knowing it had issues. Needless to say, I got a new one... along with an extra controller, a game, a card for a year of XBOX Live and a written agreement that they would take back the new system if it RRoD'd at any time. They wanted to avoid trouble.
@Heavyarms55 I hate to tell you this, but this is INCREDIBLY LAZY. Patchable? That's complete b.s. And it's not just Camelot/Nintendo, although this isn't the norm for Nintendo. Screw every damn developer who throws out unfinished/broken games to the gaming public. It's lazy, it's unprofessional and VERY anti-consumer. If you support the company and buy day one, these days you basically get a beta... and that's bullcrap and lazy. And gamers need to stop make excuses for and enabling this complete idiocy. This isn't the worse lazy build of a game, but patching shouldn't even be a thing. Do your freakin job and release a finished game. And as for publishers, back the hell off and let the professional do their jobs; finish the damn game.
Well, that response is useless and crap. I've got the warping on one of my Switches. The second cracks start appearing, I'm done and will find other places to spend my gaming $$$
With all of the games that bury this game in complexity in both graphics AND gameplay, but run at higher resolutions and frame rates, this just screams afterthought/limited resources committed. Knowing that there's much that happens behind the scenes that we may never know about, I'd never say it was a 'lazy' port. But it obviously wasn't a priority
No. No it doesn't have to effect more than one game. You can unlock the Fortnite accounts and be done if you have to. But holding gamer's progress and purchases hostage because you're arrogant, butthurt douche hammers? Not ok.
That would be about the time I stop buying new games. I have a disturbingly large stack of shame anyway. Screw anyone who tries to forces me to rely entirely on digital.
@roy130390 For some reason, it looks like links from the news are broken. Search for the game you want in the eShop and you'll get to it. Also, Golf Story just popped up; on sale. Same problem; error through link, but I got to it just fine through search.
@imgrowinglegs I was looking for it too. Just quit the eShop... and the sale notification just popped up in my news feed! Thunderbirds are go! Or... something.
Also, I hope the developers find some way to support resources to get this game on the Switch. I played the first and it was a lot of fun and felt quirky and fresh.
Used to be every time I'd see something written about a shift in EA's corporate culture, I'd cross my fingers and hope it worked out. But truth is, as long as there are investors/stock holders to answer to even if there are initiatives, they don't have much time to prove the value of such changes. So even if some within EA want these sort of changes or want to be a different company, that's a difficult sell to people who only want to see the green. They eventually have to show how it helps the company's bottom line.
@MaSSiVeRiCaN With that program, which I really don't see this game falling under, EA still gets every last penny of their investment before the developer sees any money from game sales. So if a game doesn't cover EA's costs, they don't make money. EA is a publicly held company with investors it has to answer to and a board who would never sign off on a program that is a money pit.
@Bizzyb Honestly, EA is a disgusting anachronism that needs to go away. They are a dark stain on the industry. Not the studios they steam roll and collect, EA the corporate assclowns. They are arrogant, spiteful and a dark parody of the prototypical evil corporate giant. They always throw backhanded compliments and thinly veiled snark and insults directed at Nintendo. Nintendo aren't saints, but screw EA.
And give me 2K sports any day.
I do believe the developers assessment, but EA could make that a non-issue if they wanted to.
@AlbertXi Where on earth did you hear that? Are you actually trying to tell everyone that EA publishes games out of the kindness of their hearts? A typical publisher cut is around 30%. EA would be out of business if it published games for free. EA being EA may take even more, depending on the contract. Regardless, the publisher usually gets the biggest cut. But I like your world better, where giant corporations do things out of pure love, expecting nothing in return. (ps. EA also gets royalties for any licensed products, including stuff like official strategy guides as part of the publishing deal).
They most certainly DO make money from publishing.
This isn't a list of games. It looks like a print order for booth banners, probably for individual demo stations. There are plenty more games coming (there are many announced/leaked that aren't on this sheet). I always have mixed feelings about leaks (it's nice to know the game you really want is 'confirmed', but...), especially this year with so many. It kind of ruins the excitement for the show. I was on the fence about spending the money to go this year, but I'm thinking I'm going to pass. Partly due to all of the leaks, partly due to the idea of waiting in long lines to play for a few minutes (like Six Flags). Everything else is going to be streamed, so yeah...
@rjejr Unfortunately with Rumble, no one can add points to download the game any longer. You should be able to download the demo, but you can't buy points any longer.
@QwertyQwerty No one needs you to understand. You just dropped in to be a judgey troll. I don't buy collector's editions very often, but I'm probably going to get this one because I like the design of the tank. Football fans, baseball fans, art collectors... pretty much any collector does it because it makes them happy. Or they may have other reasons... like nostalgia, a reward for busting their @sses at work, etc.
We are hunter/gathers after all, if you want to get deep. But seriously.
You don't understand the 'mentality'? I don't understand the mentality of anyone who has nothing better to do with their time than drop in to troll and throw shade on someone's hobby.
@Blathers This projector's specs are low end. You can pick up a projector w specs like this with better resolution (or even slightly better) for $100 or less. For the same price as OJO you can more than double the lumens at better resolutions. Power banks aren't that expensive and the Switch comes with an hdmi cable
@gortsi I have a bunch of friends in the indie dev community and I see how much love, passion and hard work they put into their projects, so that was hard to read without responding. Good to hear you weren't serious. Cheers.
@gortsi The fact that this isn't an indie dev not withstanding (just wow)... seriously?
I don't even know how to respond to such a ridiculous statement. This is the first time in the history of this community that I feel the need to ask - wtah? Most Indie games meet or exceed the quality and fun of mainstream games and quite often are fresher, more creative and a far better value than than the overproduced 'me too' franchises. If you can honestly look at the embarrassing wealth of amazingly fun and creative games that are released on the Switch weekly and call it a drought, then I feel comfortable saying that you're no gamer (not knowing an industry player vs indie dev was also a clue). It's one thing to wish for more games from the usual suspects or more first party games, it's quite another to dismiss an entire dev community. This is why we can't have nice things. Oh wait... yes we can. You'll just ignore them as if they don't exist. Much love to indie game devs. Thank you for your work and creativity.
That time when a violent, mentally ill warmonger who openly threatens his own citizens with violence, encourages his followers to commit violence on his behalf, threatens the world with nuclear war, threatens to carpet bomb countries with majority muslim population, kill the families of 'muslim radicals' - women and children - and has committed violence against women shows a trailer of polygons and pixels programmed to portray violence as part of a fictional narrative...
I love how people are actually defending Nintendo... a company traditionally draconian and rediculously heavy-handed in it's handling of any sort of commentary or free speach it deems derogatory or off-message. Even their 'partner program' on YouTube is a sick joke, as is it's approach to anyone who doesn't bow to them on YouTube. Don't mistake the content creators who make great games for the people at corporate Nintendo. The business side of Nintendo is pretty dark and douchey and unpleasant. Heavy handed and nasty. There's a difference between curating and protecting IPs and being overbearing douche hammers. They also believe their own press almost exclusively, so negative reviews probably dented their world.
Love Nintendo's creatives and game designers, really dislike their corporate b.s.
@sleepinglion That's completely different though... and there's nothing fair about low-life scalpers hoarding and gouging people. These prices are pretty ridiculous, but at least they're trying to earn their money with a legit business. Scalpers are subhuman filth. Fortunately Splatoon 2 controllers can still be found at retail price.
@MegaVel91 It's crap in the context of Shining Games. The Shining Games were known for very specific styles of gameplay, which for some reason every freakin' developer has decided to throw out or ignore or just think that they know better. No one has had the balls to make a real Shining game. They all punt and put out generic jrpgs with no connection to the originals. Many have been mediocre or just plain sucked. I am sick of these crap games taking the Shining brand and making it synonymous with me-too vanilla games that do not represent all of the amazing games that went before. Shamelessly branding this new game to sell it off of the backs of the brand when it has no relation to the original series - gameplay or canon - makes it crap to me. One more cash in.
I find it especially offensive when the second chapter of Shining Force 3 still needs a North American release and the first had such a limited release. How about an HD remaster of those first before selling off the brand, then punting?
You know, Shining Wisdom was an anomaly and a fun one at that. But it was developed by the Shining Force team and story-wise was a sequel to Shining Force 2. It was true to the series and respected it and was done by those closest to the material. That's why it worked where the 'Soul' games really didn't that well.

Um... just curious; vertical? It's a horizontal shooter. Is this referring to the height of the play field, or just a mistake?
Meanwhile, the parallax is still amazing. This game is gorgeous by any measure.

Re: Poll: Is Your Nintendo Switch Cracking Under The Pressure?
Well, that response is useless and crap. I've got the warping on one of my Switches. The second cracks start appearing, I'm done and will find other places to spend my gaming $$$
Re: Video: Digital Foundry Takes A Look At Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy On Switch
Re: Sony "Looking At A Lot Of The Possibilities" When It Comes To Fortnite Cross-Play Support
No. No it doesn't have to effect more than one game. You can unlock the Fortnite accounts and be done if you have to. But holding gamer's progress and purchases hostage because you're arrogant, butthurt douche hammers? Not ok.
Re: US Research Analyst Believes Gaming Could Become 100% Digital By 2022
That would be about the time I stop buying new games. I have a disturbingly large stack of shame anyway. Screw anyone who tries to forces me to rely entirely on digital.
Re: Nintendo Download: 14th June (North America)
@roy130390 For some reason, it looks like links from the news are broken. Search for the game you want in the eShop and you'll get to it. Also, Golf Story just popped up; on sale. Same problem; error through link, but I got to it just fine through search.
Re: Nintendo Download: 14th June (North America)
@riChchestM The NA E3 sale is actually through June 21st!
Re: Nintendo Download: 14th June (North America)
@imgrowinglegs Actually, give it a few... I'm too fast for Nintendo! All of the links are erroring (erring?) out!
Re: Nintendo Download: 14th June (North America)
@imgrowinglegs I was looking for it too. Just quit the eShop... and the sale notification just popped up in my news feed! Thunderbirds are go! Or... something.
Re: Unravel Two Creative Director Explains Why The Game Isn't On Switch
Also, I hope the developers find some way to support resources to get this game on the Switch. I played the first and it was a lot of fun and felt quirky and fresh.
Re: Unravel Two Creative Director Explains Why The Game Isn't On Switch
Used to be every time I'd see something written about a shift in EA's corporate culture, I'd cross my fingers and hope it worked out. But truth is, as long as there are investors/stock holders to answer to even if there are initiatives, they don't have much time to prove the value of such changes. So even if some within EA want these sort of changes or want to be a different company, that's a difficult sell to people who only want to see the green. They eventually have to show how it helps the company's bottom line.
Re: Unravel Two Creative Director Explains Why The Game Isn't On Switch
@NEStalgia They get every penny they invest back. Then the indies get the sales revenue. But that's just for the 'Originals' program.
Re: Unravel Two Creative Director Explains Why The Game Isn't On Switch
@MaSSiVeRiCaN With that program, which I really don't see this game falling under, EA still gets every last penny of their investment before the developer sees any money from game sales. So if a game doesn't cover EA's costs, they don't make money. EA is a publicly held company with investors it has to answer to and a board who would never sign off on a program that is a money pit.
And you're referring to the 'Originals' program.
Re: Unravel Two Creative Director Explains Why The Game Isn't On Switch
@Bizzyb Honestly, EA is a disgusting anachronism that needs to go away. They are a dark stain on the industry. Not the studios they steam roll and collect, EA the corporate assclowns. They are arrogant, spiteful and a dark parody of the prototypical evil corporate giant. They always throw backhanded compliments and thinly veiled snark and insults directed at Nintendo. Nintendo aren't saints, but screw EA.
And give me 2K sports any day.
I do believe the developers assessment, but EA could make that a non-issue if they wanted to.
Re: Unravel Two Creative Director Explains Why The Game Isn't On Switch
Re: Rumour: Leaked E3 Document Suggests Fortnite, Dragon Ball FighterZ And More Are Switch-Bound
Re: Review: Pokémon Quest (Switch eShop)
@rjejr Unfortunately with Rumble, no one can add points to download the game any longer. You should be able to download the demo, but you can't buy points any longer.
Re: Give Tanks For Valkyria Chronicles 4's Memoirs From Battle Premium Edition
Just sayin'.
Re: The OJO Projector For Switch Has Completed Another Successful Crowdfunding Campaign
@Blathers This projector's specs are low end. You can pick up a projector w specs like this with better resolution (or even slightly better) for $100 or less. For the same price as OJO you can more than double the lumens at better resolutions. Power banks aren't that expensive and the Switch comes with an hdmi cable
Re: Review: Attack On Titan 2 (Switch)
@gortsi I have a bunch of friends in the indie dev community and I see how much love, passion and hard work they put into their projects, so that was hard to read without responding. Good to hear you weren't serious. Cheers.
Re: Review: Attack On Titan 2 (Switch)
Re: Review: Kirby Star Allies (Switch)
You can't launch an 'ok', been there - done that game at that price point. Pass until price drops. Too many other better games on the system.
Re: The Games Industry Reacts To The White House's Violent Games Showreel
That time when a violent, mentally ill warmonger who openly threatens his own citizens with violence, encourages his followers to commit violence on his behalf, threatens the world with nuclear war, threatens to carpet bomb countries with majority muslim population, kill the families of 'muslim radicals' - women and children - and has committed violence against women shows a trailer of polygons and pixels programmed to portray violence as part of a fictional narrative...
Yup.
Re: And Just Like That, Customer Reviews On The Nintendo Site Are No More
I love how people are actually defending Nintendo... a company traditionally draconian and rediculously heavy-handed in it's handling of any sort of commentary or free speach it deems derogatory or off-message.
Re: These Retro-Themed Joy-Cons And Pro Controller Are An 8-Bit Dream
@sleepinglion That's completely different though... and there's nothing fair about low-life scalpers hoarding and gouging people. These prices are pretty ridiculous, but at least they're trying to earn their money with a legit business. Scalpers are subhuman filth. Fortunately Splatoon 2 controllers can still be found at retail price.
Re: Sega's Shining Series Returns To The West After A Decade Away, And It's Coming To Switch
So yeah. That's how I feel and why.
