@Xiovanni But the thing is, if you look at the in-game art, that hasn't changed between the two trailers. So as far as 'censorship', it's character art/possibly packaging at the most. I just don't get how that's an issue in any way
@Vyacheslav333 🤣🤣🤣 Let me get this straight. You'll pass on a fun game that you may have otherwise played... because of some character art that no longer has over-the-top cleavage... when in fact, if you look at the trailers the in-game pixel art appears to be unaffected?
@Bizzyb Looks like atm Best Buy is the only one with that ridiculous price. I'm hoping it's an error, because I have some rewards I'd like to use. But not if it just brings the price down to a little less than what it should be in the first place. If not, I have some Gamestop cash to put towards it.
@Zverik Not quite sure how $50 is too much. It's a complete remake of a game unreleased outside of Japan, requiring extensive work to localize. A lot of hard work and care has obviously gone into this project. With the title being somewhat niche, as it is an old school jrpg that many haven't ever heard of, there's no guarantee of it pushing great numbers. I think $50 is incredible fair, given that it's not just a phoned in emulated port or a crappy mobile-style version.
@Darthroseman came here to say exactly this. It's also available on Walmart's and Target's website in the States as well. It's weird we haven't seen Klonoa as of yet. Been looking myself.
This looks like a vibe. Truly relaxing and I hope it's as fun as it is zen. I've been looking for something like this after playing 'A Short Hike' when I need to relax... perhaps a little too often. I'm ready for a new go-to escape.
It just goes to show that the 'Switch Tax' only applies if you absolutely have to get the game right away, regardless of price. If you wait and watch for sales on the eshop and at retail... or pick them up for $10 less at Walmart in the states (not to mention Walmarts random and odd clearances), you'll save yourself a lot of money. This is a pretty damn good sale.
@BloodNinja Except it's affecting everything and the slightly increased prices wouldn't come close to making up for what they could have sold if supply was good. Car manufacturers are, for instance, actually shutting down production of some vehicles. Appliance wait lists are a thing. Delayed and/or lost revenue would outstrip any price hike.
Look... I think he's a joke. An anthropomorphic meme. But he never said he was CEO.
And in his perpetual altered state, it could be that his 'people' made some financial moves on his behalf that in his state of mind he misconstrued. Atari stock was at 42 cents a share and falling, last I checked.
Hell. There are probably some members of the Nintendo Life community who could pony up for a controlling share of the company at that price. I mean, let's not forget Reddit and Gamestop. Stranger things have happened...
I'd love to see $150, but I just can't see current Nintendo doing it. They've returned to being the arrogant Nintendo of old and have no fear again.
They currently have a deal in the states. If you buy a Lite at Walmart, you get a free 128GB Sandisk card. This is the sort of thing I am expecting for the holidays. Maybe $180-200 w a Sandisk card or game on Black Friday. A store bundle. Or maybe an actual Nintendo bundle w download code for a game. But no permanent price cut this year. Maybe around E3 next year.
With their profit margin on the Lite, cutting the system to $150 would likely be too much. They had to negotiate with suppliers just to get the Switch Lite price to where they could sell it for $200. While their margin is likely greater now, a $50 cut would probably wipe most of that out.
And Nintendo won't do that to themselves. At this point they probably have surmised that any increase in sales for a soon to be tertiary system with less functionality probably wouldn't be enough to offset such a cut.
@Burntbreadman Goodwill has a history of paying workers with disabilities (some of the very people they say they help) far below minimum wage. Sometimes below a dollar an hour because of a outmoded part of a law passed in 1938:
Section 14(c) of the Fair Labor Standards Act authorizes employers, after receiving a certificate from the Wage and Hour Division, to pay special minimum wages — wages less than the Federal minimum wage — to workers who have disabilities for the work being performed.
This basically allows them to say 'you have limitations therefore we feel your work is only worth .25 an hour' and get away with it. It's digusting, but very '1938 America'. But it's 2021 and people and their work should be treated with dignity.
@Bearzilla823 Wow. You must have had some insider info then, because I saw some unannounced and surprising stuff. Nintendo did hand them their... assets... in all of the ways that matter.
It's interesting. Now, Nintendo will be 'laughing all the way to the bank', as the saying goes. They will undoubtedly be the big winners, with their software and hardware sales continuing to dominate, regardless of what fanboys from any walk of life want to cry about.
But watching reactions to Nintendo rolling in live on social medias and the aftermath/conversations, these results do NOT reflect the commentary I saw from a variety of outlets and influencers alike. More 'awards' that really mean absolutely nothing and impact exactly nothing.
In spite of major franchises being ignored completely, a lack of AC:NH info and huge fan 'wants' not being addressed, unlike any of the other events, my face slightly hurt from the smiling I did during Nintendo's. There was a joy, lightness and delight in their presentation, along with some genuine surprises, fan service and solid upcoming releases.
With the XBOX/Bethesda presentation, there was some wow factor in the graphics department and a couple of promising games, but it mostly felt samey and like standard industry output. I mean, cool stuff but... no heart. It was all chest bumps and high fives, deep cinematic swooshes, risers and bass drops.
Nintendo was smiles, stupid grins and 'holy crap' moments... especially for Nintendo fans, fans of certain Nintendo IPs and of quirky, fun games. And they still managed some 'plosions, cinematic moments and adventure.
I'll take stupid grins and ridiculous, sometimes silly fun over fist bumps and explosions every day of the week.
Yes yes yes a thousand times YES! This is exactly what I was hoping for as they moved forward with games using this aesthetic! More of this, please! Less of the 'flash/mobile' style garbage. It's just... ugly.
@Silly_G why bizzare? Labo VR support and 3D glasses would make it completely viable. It would be a great way for Nintendo to add value to the online service, offering 3D glasses to subscribers. And maybe a limited edition of more robust 3D goggles playfully shaped roughly like the Virtual Boy for purchase by subscribers only, like the NES and SNES controllers. Not bizzare at all.
@sanderev not even a remotely accurate comparison. There were quite a few very good games for the Virtual Boy. Most were at least ok, only a handful were bad and then, only a few were outright trash. I don't remember any on the level of the CDi bad. Water World may have come close.
I actually own the system. Picked one up from Blockbuster when they stopped carrying them. I owned pretty much all of the releases, even the Japanese games (I lived in NYC at the time and there were great import games stores in Chinatown). The issues was the tech in the system, not the games. Have you ever actually played a Virtual Boy?
Space Squash, Jack Bros, Panic Bomber, Red Alarm, Mario's Tennis, Vertical Force, Mario Clash, Galactic Pinball, Nester' Funky Bowling, 3D Tetris, Golf... these are all good to great games and a lot of fun.
It would be fantastic news and a great bit of game preservation if these were officially released. New 3DS XL would have been the obvious choice, but a Switch release would be nice. Ultimately, if Nintendo has fully sworn off of 3D, official releases on VR systems could be a money maker for them and a great way to play them as intended, only better.
@Tandy255 Oh I agree. Like I said, $5.00 seems a lot more reasonable for a title like this. But I always stop short of saying that they are overpriced as I don't really know what it costs to bring these to the eShop. I try to keep in mind that Nintendo get I believe 30% right off of the top (so they're down to $5.60) and I don't know what the original publisher/developer get for their cut. Whatever's left after that has to cover all of their costs... then after that, how much are they actually pocketing as pure profit. A couple of bucks maybe?
So the straight up, perhaps mildly entitled gamer/consumer in me says 'that's too much for a game like this', but the logical and compassionate parts of my brain are telling me that it probably wouldn't be sustainable for them, outside of the occasional eShop sale.
Thanks for the heads up! I went to My Nintendo and looked at all of the rewards options. I didn't quite have enough for both of the items I wanted, so I went ahead and found the hidden Poochis and did all of the Pokemon Snap missions and boom! I was able to pick up both the coins pin set and the fun Cat Mario keychain with small lanyard/strap.
While the selection in My Nintendo may pale in comparison to the amazing physical rewards that I got during the Club Nintendo Era ( Luigi's Mansion Figure/Scene, the Mario button/pin set, the Zelda soundtrack, etc), it's nice that physical rewards are back. And these two I picked up are nice enough.
I only paid $5.00 for shipping... and that was both shipped together, so I'm not sure what's happening with others.
I honestly can't remember if I ever paid shipping for Club Nintendo physical rewards, but I don't think so. Also, some of the last rewards I got before Club Nintendo shut down were... free games. Don't see that anymore either.
I may be vibing this through nostalgia, but I remember having fun with this in the arcade. It's difficult to tell someone what value should be placed on something they've worked on/produced, but I really feel like these releases should be priced based on the game and not just blanket pricing.
$8.00 seems a bit steep for this, but then again I have no idea what their licensing, logistic and development costs are. Maybe digging up something this old and relatively unknown took some doing. $5.00 seems more reasonable, but obviously that's just from a consumer perspective and we all like a good deal.
Then again, I guess you could say I'm part of the problem, as I may still pick it up at this price!
Given that there is no radar on the screen, this would be the SNES version. The Genesis version had a persistent radar on the screen on the right hand side along with items/info. With the SNES version, you had to toggle the radar and items were on the top.
If you want a physical copy of Balan Wonderwhatthehellhappened and just can't wait for some reason, Target, Walmart & Gamestop have it for $39.99. Surprisingly, other major online retailers are more expensive. I'm waiting for that $10 clearance myself. There are so many brilliant games for $10-20 that I can't see paying more than that for the Balan experience.
@MisterM360p That's not a cheap trip to make. Especially w gas prices and an overnight stay. I mean, I guess I'm assuming they're driving. A flight wouldn't be cheap either. The boy chose well and how refreshing to hear a child not demanding both and throwing a fit. Sounds like a sweet kid with a good head on him.
@Damo 'News' and reviews can be found on many sites. Good writing and variety of content are what keep people coming back. Even if it's just to use said writing as a speed bag to work over as a means to sweat out their bitterness. Keep up the good work!
@CarlosM87 Lol. 1000% I even got some whiney hate thrown my way... presumably because I hit the nail on the head and laid bare truths some would rather not have addressed. Oh well. At the end of the day, this story cheered me up and it was appreciated.
@TryToBeHopeful um. You do know that there can be more than one city that goes by the same name, right? For instance, there's a Brooklyn Wisconsin, a Paris Texas, a New York in England and so, SO many others... probably thousands. Possibly hundreds in the states alone.
Wow. Reading these comments is depressing. So much sad, cynical, soulless, pointless whining and complaining.
This really is a cute, sweet story and something really nice to read first thing in the morning. I should have known better than to read the comments.
People complaining about slow news days or Nintendolife writing a story about a child deciding to road trip for pizza with his family instead of just getting a thing.
Regardless of the Pizza joint or television station getting publicity from this, the kid is getting one hell of a birthday; is going to spend time with his family; get a Switch; be on the news (which will probably be fun for him too); and have some (presumably) kick ass pizza.
He chose to make memories with his family. At some point children pull away as the whole growing up thing works its stupid hormonal crap. This is lovely.
But some of you have to make it about how sad Nintendo is making you; how much you don't like human interest stories; the pandemic; your opinion on the state of the Switch; or how the kid is making a mistake. Some of these comments show some didn't even read the whole story.
Why can't you all just smile, enjoy a happy moment or just move on if sweet little news stories cause you so much pain?
Thank you Nintendolife for mixing it up a bit and reminding us of the importance of the second half of your name and how important it is to occasionally look up from your console, shake off the mantle of adulting and enjoy life. Sometimes through the eyes of a child. I think I'm going to have pizza for lunch...
My launch Switch other Switches are thankfully doing well, outside of some warping on the OG model. I certainly do not assume that those experiencing issues are at fault. The Switch has inexplicably gotten a pass by many for all of it's issues. 'Just buy another Switch'. Blaming people for not caring for their systems is a symptom of this bizzare apologist mentality. The Switch has many, MANY design/material issues.
And I won't be picking up a new Switch model for at least 6 months after launch (even if I could find one). Fool me once Nintendo... I'll be waiting out a 'shakedown' period. It's not just the Switch. Recent system launches have driven that point home. Be patient and wait to see what problems/bugs/issues present themselves.
But even if I wanted one, barring some logistical dark magic, Nintendo faces the same issues/barriers to shipping that all other electronics manufacturers do. The component shortages and longer manufacturing times will impact any attempt at a system launch any time in the near future. And degenerate scalpers will do the rest of the work, making systems impossible to find at retail.
If all of mine were to fail, I'd just go back to my 3DS and Wii U and be very content to ride out the storm.
@VoidofLight Resetti maybe, but the rest are front and center and feature PROMINENTLY in New Horizons. Who runs the museum? Who runs the store? Who gives you Astrological recipes, Star Wand recipes, etc... and tells you when there's a major meteor shower?
And Nintendo would still be in control, as they could limit the features and ways in which you could modify them. But coming pre stuffed with ZERO options is just stupid and limiting.
@VoidofLight they expected to be able to actually build and customize them like other Build a Bear offerings. And there are plenty of other AC characters that get merch. KK Slider and Timmy and Tommy would have been welcome. And given the proximity to Easter/Bunny Day, they could have cashed in on a limited release Zipper. Blathers, Celeste, Resetti... and we haven't even touched on fan favorites.
Hmmm. Maybe it's because the original is delisted, but normally that sort of discount is possible. There have been numerous indie games that have given me discounts or even free games automatically based on whether or not I had purchased one or more of their other games.
@SwitchForce not sure how that effects an indie dev's decision, when there are so many working units. As far as repairs, it's pretty amazing how many videos are out there and how readily available parts appear to be. I'm actually going to try my hand at a repair or two. A few years from now, parts may become harder to come by. On the other hand, people are still repairing, recapping and modding Game Gear. Plenty of time and room to sell games. Especially with digital distribution still available.
@SwitchForce why? Developers, especially indie devs, have been releasing games for many discontinued and retro systems over the years. We're still getting games for the NES, SNES, Genesis, Atari and Dreamcast, to name a few. The 3DS may not be manufactured anymore, but it still has a large base, the system's are still sought after and it still has an active eShop. Personally, I'd definitely pick it up for Switch, 3DS AND Dreamcast, just for the different experiences.
I honestly hope they start catching these leakers and that they not only lose their jobs, but are blacklisted in the industry. I really am sick of it. I'm just glad that I didn't hear about this until now.
We finally get a Direct and its going to be 15 minutes of games we already know about, then 35+ minutes of nothing but Smash. I am so sick of this game and its DLC. I realize people have already bought packs and there's a rabid fan base, but have a separate Smash event for crap's sake. These over produced, dragged out reveals take up far too much real-estate in these announcements and Directs. I enjoy Smash with friends, but there's already 80+ fighters and a crap ton of stages. Can we move on? Or at least separate them from Directs? It would be best for everyone. Rant (mostly) over.
@Mince Just to put it out there, if it did come to the Switch, I don't think anyone would be foolish enough to put this particular game in split screen in TABLETOP mode (not handheld, as that doesn't even make sense). If the effort were made, I would think that the biggest change to the game would be either a complete lack of portable multiplayer or local multisystem play. Having said all of that, have you played Mario Kart? Split Screen works great in tabletop. You can show me the door if you like, but that's kind of a fact.
The original was more fun than it had a right to be and very charming. This looks to be more of that good stuff in every way. Definitely picking it up.
@Jayofmaya nah. Just the ignorant and selfish with their heads in the sand or up their ass, thinking they know every damn thing when they know nothing. Have a good one.

If one has outstanding internet, plays mostly or solely in docked mode and doesn't want to own anything; just pay out the nose to rent, perfect.
I'm a solid 'Hell naw' and this push for cloud gaming on a hybrid system whose major hook is portability is really ridiculous.

@CarlosM87 Lol. 1000% I even got some whiney hate thrown my way... presumably because I hit the nail on the head and laid bare truths some would rather not have addressed. Oh well. At the end of the day, this story cheered me up and it was appreciated.
Re: Random: Boy Has To Choose Between Nintendo Switch And Pizza, Chooses Pizza
@Yosher and right now, the world needs a few of these. Kind of like ginger to cleanse our palate in between adulting and the other news of the day.
Re: Random: Boy Has To Choose Between Nintendo Switch And Pizza, Chooses Pizza
@TryToBeHopeful um. You do know that there can be more than one city that goes by the same name, right? For instance, there's a Brooklyn Wisconsin, a Paris Texas, a New York in England and so, SO many others... probably thousands. Possibly hundreds in the states alone.
Re: Random: Boy Has To Choose Between Nintendo Switch And Pizza, Chooses Pizza
@Richnj exactly! I didn't even have that great of a childhood, but I still remember those trips where things were good. Even at my age.
Re: Random: Boy Has To Choose Between Nintendo Switch And Pizza, Chooses Pizza
@FragRed lol. Now THAT is adulting. I don't know if I could do that!
Re: Random: Boy Has To Choose Between Nintendo Switch And Pizza, Chooses Pizza
@dugan i do love a good Stromboli, but when I was a kid pizza was life. Hell, Ninja Turtles loved it, so why wouldn't I?
Re: Random: Boy Has To Choose Between Nintendo Switch And Pizza, Chooses Pizza
@NikHogan agreed! I needed this today!
Re: Random: Boy Has To Choose Between Nintendo Switch And Pizza, Chooses Pizza
@Sourcecode It's really sweet. Good kid w a good heart.
Re: Random: Boy Has To Choose Between Nintendo Switch And Pizza, Chooses Pizza
@nessisonett amen. Well said.
Re: Random: Boy Has To Choose Between Nintendo Switch And Pizza, Chooses Pizza
Re: Soapbox: Hurry Up And Release The Switch Pro Already, My Switch Is Dying
Re: Talking Point: The Build-A-Bear Animal Crossing Collection Is A Bit Rubbish
@VoidofLight Resetti maybe, but the rest are front and center and feature PROMINENTLY in New Horizons. Who runs the museum? Who runs the store? Who gives you Astrological recipes, Star Wand recipes, etc... and tells you when there's a major meteor shower?
And Nintendo would still be in control, as they could limit the features and ways in which you could modify them. But coming pre stuffed with ZERO options is just stupid and limiting.
Re: Talking Point: The Build-A-Bear Animal Crossing Collection Is A Bit Rubbish
@VoidofLight they expected to be able to actually build and customize them like other Build a Bear offerings. And there are plenty of other AC characters that get merch. KK Slider and Timmy and Tommy would have been welcome. And given the proximity to Easter/Bunny Day, they could have cashed in on a limited release Zipper. Blathers, Celeste, Resetti... and we haven't even touched on fan favorites.
Re: The Nintendo eShop Is Currently Down Due To "Emergency Maintenance"
I sure hope we don't hear about a security breach and stolen customer data a month from now...
Re: Limited Run Will Be Publishing Save Me Mr Tako: Definitive Edition On Consoles
Hmmm. Maybe it's because the original is delisted, but normally that sort of discount is possible. There have been numerous indie games that have given me discounts or even free games automatically based on whether or not I had purchased one or more of their other games.
Re: Surprise, The 3DS Is Getting Another Physical Release This Year
@SwitchForce not sure how that effects an indie dev's decision, when there are so many working units.
Re: Surprise, The 3DS Is Getting Another Physical Release This Year
@arekdougy I mean, there were at least five new games for the Dreamcast last year alone...
Re: Surprise, The 3DS Is Getting Another Physical Release This Year
@SwitchForce why? Developers, especially indie devs, have been releasing games for many discontinued and retro systems over the years. We're still getting games for the NES, SNES, Genesis, Atari and Dreamcast, to name a few. The 3DS may not be manufactured anymore, but it still has a large base, the system's are still sought after and it still has an active eShop. Personally, I'd definitely pick it up for Switch, 3DS AND Dreamcast, just for the different experiences.
Re: Random: A Reddit User Correctly Leaked Half Of Yesterday's Nintendo Direct Ahead Of Time
I honestly hope they start catching these leakers and that they not only lose their jobs, but are blacklisted in the industry. I really am sick of it. I'm just glad that I didn't hear about this until now.
Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fans Will Want To Tune Into Tomorrow's Nintendo Direct
Re: Hazelight Studios Has No Plans For It Takes Two On Switch, Director Unsure If It's Even Possible
Re: New Pokémon Snap Scores April Release Date On Switch, Watch The New Trailer Here
The original was more fun than it had a right to be and very charming. This looks to be more of that good stuff in every way. Definitely picking it up.
Re: Feature: Why Open A Video Game Shop During A Global Pandemic?
@Jayofmaya nah. Just the ignorant and selfish with their heads in the sand or up their ass, thinking they know every damn thing when they know nothing. Have a good one.
Re: Feature: Why Open A Video Game Shop During A Global Pandemic?
@JedRock I mean, seriously. Nothing you said is remotely accurate or true. You're freakin trash.
