Re: Nintendo Appears at Apple Conference to Announce Super Mario Run

Tsusasi

@Turbo857 Pokemon Go is comparatively feature-rich, uses AR tech, and already has more substance than the Mario runner... and with planned updates is getting even deeper.

It's free. Yup.

Absolutely I expected more from a Nintendo first party release. 100%

And no... it's not asking too much. You only get one shot at a first impression and establish yourself as a new player in a saturated market. Why not impress and innovate? The positive press and reviews alone would be worth it.

Re: Video: Check Out Some Official Footage of Super Mario Run

Tsusasi

@IxnayontheCK Other companies put out good full-on platformers on mobile and people enjoy them.

Nintendo prepares to launch watered down runner version of one of the most iconic platformer series.

People who wish or thought that it would be a proper platformer... possibly with a twist/new mechanic told to not be stupid.

Seriously?

Just, wow...

Re: Nintendo Appears at Apple Conference to Announce Super Mario Run

Tsusasi

@Turbo857 How about this? I was expecting something more along the lines of Tipping Stars or the like. More depth that can also be played one stage at a time as a quick game session, that also has puzzle creation and sharing. And to be honest, given that NFC is a thing on smart phones, even Amiibo and/or Amiibo card integration. Something with some depth and legs designed with digesting chunks in mind without taking the easy way out with a basic runner skinned with the Mario IP.

Re: Nintendo Appears at Apple Conference to Announce Super Mario Run

Tsusasi

@Nintendoforlife I was never one of those people and saw the merit of streamlined gameplay paired with AR and subtle strategy elements wherein one could play as shallow or deep as they wanted to. I was excited for Pokemon Go. This is not Pokemon Go. It doesn't sport the AR element which was new to a mainstream IP and absolutely perfect (and most Pokemon fans dream come true) for a Pokemon game (I don't see why Nintendo didn't do more with AR on the 3DS... especially with Pokemon; 'Dream Radar' doesn't cut it.) and it doesn't have any discernible depth. My initial response, unlike my relative excitement for 'Go', is most definitely 'Meh' and I stand by that.

Unless there are revelations of unique gameplay mechanics or something other that the IP itself being the draw, I don't see being wrong about it.

Re: Nintendo Appears at Apple Conference to Announce Super Mario Run

Tsusasi

@Laki2

No. Nope. Not going to happen. I'm not giving Nintendo a pass. Why should I 'deal with it'? It's lame. If you're ok with lame, watered down gameplay... have fun. Here's to your generation of gaming... which I will heretofore refer to as 'laming'. What does the SNES have to do with anything? It's about the quality of the gameplay experience vs the rush to appeasement of the 'casual' wallet. I could care less about the system a game appears on. I want it to be a good game and a complete gaming experience... not some lame ass runner that would be better served as a mini game for a new party game.

So you go ahead and deal with the 'Laming' generation... maybe I WILL dust off my SNES or look to my 3DS or Wii U for some GAMING.

Sorry... telling people to 'get over' this nonsense is pretty freakin' ridiculous. There are good mobile games...even great ones. This? This is looking extremely 'meh'. 'Meh' doesn't cut it for me for a Nintendo game featuring Mario... especially for the effective launch/flagship game for Nintendo's mobile gambit.

Re: Nintendo Appears at Apple Conference to Announce Super Mario Run

Tsusasi

@BiasedSonyFan This statement is full of so much surrender. Way to hold developers to a higher standard... or really any standard. Well, enjoy Flappy Yoshi and all of the other crap that's going to pollute mobile. I took a step back and gave Nintendo the benefit of the doubt, when they announced games on mobile. I was wrong. The least common denominator is not ok.

Re: Nintendo Appears at Apple Conference to Announce Super Mario Run

Tsusasi

Lame. I love all of the defense of Nintendo; that's a whole lot of love and cool and all. And gold star for the 'this isn't for you, it's for a different sort of end user' arguments... but at the end of the day, it really is lame. Sorry folks. Yeah it's my opinion, but really... think about it. The first true Nintendo game on mobile... and it's an endless runner. That you have to pay for. I thought it had been said that if they did make games of this variety for mobile, it would damage the value of their IPs. Huh.

Yes people. Good endless runners do exist... but that's kind of the point. There are plenty of games in that genre. This doesn't innovate... it doesn't even take the genre to the net level. So what if it's good? Yay. Why go there and do yet another 'good' runner as your first true effort in the gaming space on mobile? Why not make an impression, Nintendo style? This is phoned in and a waste of talent.

Re: Niantic Already Working On New Apps As Pokémon GO Passes The $440 Million Mark

Tsusasi

It's been said above, but I have to add my voice; stop the madness, Niantic. I could care less about your 'success'... Pokemon Go is a mess and has been nothing more than a glorified public beta since day freakin' one. On top of the server issues, glitches, balance madness and broken tools, you've nerfed you own freakin' game more than once and have been unreasonably heavy-handed with bans and the like. Get your house in order, figure out how to make Pokemon Go stable and balanced and better than beta quality and then roll out your new features when they too are actually ready for prime time. Only then should you be looking to move on and divert development resources. How can you build on a borked platform?

Re: Niantic Already Working On New Apps As Pokémon GO Passes The $440 Million Mark

Tsusasi

@Mega_Yarn_Poochy Not entirely true... in order to plan and work on new projects, they need to devote resources to development. Diverting resources impacts current projects, whether it be money or personnel. Given that they claim to have been caught off guard and overwhelmed (as were their servers) by the magnitude of PGos success, they are already stretched thin. They may have the revenue to divert funds and maybe they'll build new teams for these other Apps, but it sounds like they are relying on their core talent and existing platform.

Re: Review: PANDA LOVE (Wii U eShop)

Tsusasi

I just don't understand... you have this incredibly, painfully average/slightly below average game that could be finished on the crapper... why not put it together with a few other marginal games that are ridiculously short with some sort of theme and mechanism to bridge them all and call it a 'party' game or compilation. Or maybe wait to release it until there are more levels, a compelling reason to play and gameplay lasts longer than it takes to fire up the Wii U and download a retail game.

Re: Sources Indicate That the Nintendo NX Will Feature a Social 'Share' Button

Tsusasi

I've always hated the split 'd' pad. I honestly always felt that it was nothing more than SONY trying to find a viable alternative to the iconic Nintendo 'd' pad to avoid any litigation with Nintendo, given the Playstation's origins. As an input, I've found it lacking and pretty much the 2nd worst 'd' pad I've played with (the first is the original NA Saturn controller)... especially for Capcom fighters. The best 'd' pad I've ever used was the Japanese Saturn controller (also the best fighting pad... which is why it has been copied for Capcom branded fighting pads across all systems). That pad or even the New 3DS or NEOGEO Pocket Color 'd' pad would be my go to pick.

Re: Niantic Pushes Out a New Pokémon GO Update

Tsusasi

Until the kick and flee rates are rebalanced/returned to original settings and Pokestops return to spitting out the high end Pokeballs and sprays at previous levels, I'm done.

The problem is this is straight up bait and switch. 'The first is free the next will cost you'. That's great for drug dealers and casinos, but for legitimate businesses it's not even legal. Of course since there probably aren't any precedence set for this sort of thing making it a gray area, nothing will come of it... except people like me deleting the app. As a fan of rpgs and in particular jrpgs, I'm no stranger to grinding and I'm cool with it... until all of the fun is sucked out of that grind. I was prepared to buy an item or two each month down the road since they started out on a fairly generous and fair note.

Re: Review: 7th Dragon III Code: VFD (3DS)

Tsusasi

9/10 score for a JRPG - incredibly engaging combat, Yūzō Koshiro soundtrack, great art design, epic time-traveling storyline, new approach to turn based combat, fresh classes and generally engaging and fun, to touch on a few selling points.

And yet some are saying they won't buy what is a really great game because there's no 3D. This is - no joke - why we can't have nice things and why we have no business asking for any localization outside of what's already being offered. When sales numbers are low for a game like this and you hear of so many whining about no implementation of 3D... when you've just created an amazing game that has some fresh takes on the genre - why would you want to localize another for that market? Sad. Really, really sad.

Re: Nintendo Download: 7th July (North America)

Tsusasi

'This Super NES title is certainly well loved, an action game full of creativity that can also be enjoyed in co-op' Hmmm.

I'm not sure that's true of the 3DS release. That would be new and exciting. Can anyone confirm that? If true, it would definitely be a reason to pick it up. Co-op is a lot of fun and to be able to take it with me would be awesome. But I don't know that co-op would be supported on the 3DS. I'd talk friends into downloading it as well, if needed. If it is, that's my purchase this week. Otherwise, I already own the cartridge.

Re: Mighty No. 9 Problems "Totally My Fault", Admits Creator Keiji Inafune

Tsusasi

@Krisi You should do your research. Not only is that statement wrong, but it's a little insulting. A 'simple illustrator'? Seriously?

He actually created/developed several series within the Mega Man Universe, including the Battle Network games and was co-creator of Onimusha. He was also the creator/producer of the Lost Planet and Dead Rising series, amongst other projects. He is also a graphic designer who work includes the early Street Fighter games.

Not bad for a 'simple illustrator'. Not defending this game or his involvement in it, but let's give credit where credit is due and not downplay his rather impressive career.

Re: Rumour: Someone Tried To Steal The Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Demo, And Failed

Tsusasi

I think it sucks that Nintendo can't even show a demo at a closed trade show without some asshats trying to steal their property. If it weren't for selfish people like that, Nintendo might have released a demo. And it would benefit everyone of they did. Whether or not you think it's cool, the bottom line is that what they tried to do was a crime... or several crimes. And that sucks because that's one of the big reasons we can have nice things... or a Zelda demo.

The demos were locked into specific zones AND had time limits. They are primed and ready for eShop demo treatment. If there's some code that needs tweaking for the demos to be more secure, then I understand... but these should be released.

Reasons to release:

To build hype for the game itself ahead of the holiday season (competing for precious Christmas cash/gift cards... plant the seed and you'll turn them into reserves/preorders)

To bridge the rather large gap in major (and even minor) game releases - keeping the Nintendo brand relevant and on the radar

To let players have some time to get used to the new mechanics of the game and start discussions/word of mouth based on hands on experience instead of speculation/uninformed opinion

To build hype for the NX as they dream about the additional layer of beauty the system could bring.

Not to mention, bragging rights and a marketing/social media coup for being the bad ass game company that thought enough of their fan base to give them a chance to play the demo that was once locked behind E3s doors.

Re: Even If It’s Not Perfect, It’s Better Than Nothing, Says Mighty No. 9 Creator Keiji Inafune

Tsusasi

Wow. Sad and pathetic. I really hope he doesn't do anything in the industry again... unless he has some sort of epiphany wherein he realizes that this game was at best a huge disappointment and painfully mediocre and that his attitude is lazy and piss poor. That moment of enlightenment had also better inform him that he can no longer rest on his laurels as he has pissed on his own rep. Find some passion dude.

Re: Rumour: French Media Claims Nintendo NX is Set for September Reveal

Tsusasi

I really don't see why a September reveal would be so out of the question. The rest of the rumors are a little more sketchy, but September would be fine. It's near the Tokyo Game Show date, Nintendo has been doing their own events, digital and otherwise... and if they take a page from the SONY playbook, it may also make people hang on to money they may have spent on other systems over the holidays... especially if it's tied to an announcement of a proper preorder program and hands on 'play' events to avoid the mistakes made with the Wii U (i.e. taking too long to get it into gamer's hands and truly explain the benefits/idiosyncrasies/positioning of the system).

Timed with a major price cut for the Wii U to drive holiday sales along side of existing and perhaps new Nintendo selects and it could make for an exciting one/two punch for Nintendo's holiday presence and an opportunity to clear selves so that the Wii U isn't prominent along side the NX (something that added to the confusion with the Wii U launch - Wiis on they same selves as Wii Us... and at the start, in comparable quantities).

Re: Rumour: French Media Claims Nintendo NX is Set for September Reveal

Tsusasi

@teamshortcut Reveal, not release... two completely different things. Not really of of the question either, as Nintendo more and more often does it's own thing separate of Industry events.

Timed with a major price cut for the Wii U to drive holiday sales along side of existing and perhaps new Nintendo selects and it makes sense to me.

And/or taking a page from the SONY playbook, it may also make people hang on to money they may have spent on other systems over the holidays... especially if it's tied to an announcement of a proper preorder program.

Re: Review: PixelJunk Monsters (Wii U eShop)

Tsusasi

Actually, I love the music. It is atmospheric and quite soothing when you get stressed. I think it's well done and I also enjoy the boss theme. Because the music is so light and ambient, it becomes part of the environment - like bird song or wind blowing. At least it does for me. This and PixelJunk Eden are my faves and both have a wonderful aural vibe. I really have to disagree on that point, but the rest of the review is pretty spot on; this game should not be missed if you enjoy the genre or if you've ever been curious about town defense games.

Re: Nintendo Download: 2nd June (North America)

Tsusasi

@XCWarrior It is not the fact that it's a Metroid game, it's the fact that the major selling point of the game is no longer there... AND of all of the Metroid choices available on the Wii U, it's the weakest. If there were a poll for what people were purchasing this week that wasn't new, I'd venture a guess that some would say Metroid Prime Trilogy or one of the other Metroid games... just not the neutered handheld option.

Re: Nintendo Sure Has Booked A Lot Of Floor Space For E3 2016

Tsusasi

So as far as I can tell, Nintendo has been very careful with it's wording. Zelda is the only playable game, but there could be monitors dedicated to unplayable new games and new IPs. I can't imagine there not being a 3DS demo station or ten in that space.

And they have said that the NX console won't be shown, but they don't remember them saying anything about videos teasing games for the system that reveal nothing about the system itself.

I can't remember them saying anything about not showing a new handheld or other device either... and I can't imagine them not feature footage of their next mobile efforts somewhere.

Of course, this is probably just going to be overflow for Zelda crowds and maybe some screens showing footage of new games while their captive audience waits their turn to play Zelda.

But there's nothing wrong with dreaming...

Re: Rumour: Nintendo's Next Generation Handheld Is Codenamed "MH"

Tsusasi

@deKay No... they didn't. The 3DS was a completely different system/family of systems, not an iteration. But going with that, look what happened. The 3DS nearly failed. Bad launch, few games to support the system, no killer apps. They had to slash the price and create an entire program of free stuff for those that they screwed. So yeah... and that was exactly my point; if they launch a whole new family of handhelds so soon that aren't part of the NX integration rumor or are an extension of the 3DS brand... again... they will screw themselves hard. If they are that arrogant and out of touch, they deserve what's coming to them. But I just don't see them being that stupid.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo's Next Generation Handheld Is Codenamed "MH"

Tsusasi

@deKay Yes... but they didn't then release yet another iteration a couple of years later (DSiXL is just size option). The DSi is the DS family's 'NEW 3DS. The NEW 3DS is essentially a whole new system. To launch a whole new platform that will undoubtedly cost $200 or more is a punch to the throat for those who just purchased a NEW 3DS. And with this as a rumor, if you have bought a 3DS why would you now?

Re: Rumour: Nintendo's Next Generation Handheld Is Codenamed "MH"

Tsusasi

@JamesCoote Barely plausible and given the hits Nintendo has taken due to the Wii U failure and given the fact that, as I stated, they just had a new iteration, anything not NX related would be marketing suicide. Even I wouldn't buy yet another standalone handheld, and I have multiple 3DSs and DSs for my family. I would literally be done with Nintendo for the foreseeable future. The only way to describe such a move on Nintendo's part would be arrogant and oblivious.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo's Next Generation Handheld Is Codenamed "MH"

Tsusasi

@deKay Except that in this case they have recently released a NEW 3DS with drastic hardware changes. One that can play games the others can't and has features and controls that the others lack. They haven't even started releasing dedicated games for the system en masse. It would be a damage control nightmare after having just hyped a NEW system (it's even in the name).

Re: Capcom Could Be Planning to Bring Back Old IP

Tsusasi

One Piece Mansion with multiplayer and Gamepad support, a Power Stone sequel with up to 5 players (release a launch edition with download codes for HD versions of the first two games and an art book)), a really good Breath of Fire game that takes the best things from all of the series as well as gamer's feedback, Cannon Spike with 5 player support, Super Puzzle Fighter II: Turbo with gamepad support and 4 or 5 player multiplayer, a beautifully illustrated/animated Ghouls and Ghost (think Rayman quality) and/or a Ghouls and Ghosts action rpg, Lost Planet with local and online multiplayer coop, Dino Crisis... man I could go on!

I mention 5 player for some of these because that's one of the great things about the Wii U and it's gamepad - Local 5 player support. Everyone's always looking for the new innovative gameplay mechanic and afraid of incorporating the gamepad. Why not keep it simple and use it to demonstrate a feature of the Wii U that others are hard-pressed to duplicate and often completely ignore in favor of online multiplayer - 5 player local!

Re: Capcom Could Be Planning to Bring Back Old IP

Tsusasi

@Tasuki Any particular reason you have to be rude? Also, Ducktales? That's part of your argument? Did you miss the release - both digital and physical - of the remastered version?

Capcom can make those games happen the same way they did the originals: licensing agreements with Disney.

Re: PixelJunk Monsters Has Been Rated for Wii U by PEGI

Tsusasi

Pretty much everything PixelJunk is gold. There's not one release I dislike. 'Monsters' has tons of personality and variety and both visually and aurally is a joy to play and a bit of a zen experience. PixelJunk Eden is another fave. I think their racer is the weakest of all of their efforts and it's STILL fun to play and head and shoulders above a lot of eStore offerings, so I wouldn't be mad if it came over as well. But 'Eden' and 'Shooter' first, please.

Oh... I guess we should see how this sells first, huh.

Re: Nintendo Download: 19th May (Europe)

Tsusasi

PixelJunk Monsters is one of my all-time favorite PS3 downloads and honestly one of my favorite games on the system period. Please, pretty please someone confirm for me it's coming to the NA shop!!!! Pretty much every game in the PixelJunk series has been amazing. I hope this sells well enough that more make their way. PixelJunk Eden and Shooter would be awesome!

Re: Talking Point: The Crowded Toys To Life Market Cut Its Weakest Link in Disney Infinity, Yet amiibo Should Be Safe

Tsusasi

If by variety you mean churning out an obscene number of individual skus, then yes... I agree. But if you were somehow inferring that Nintendo offers unrivaled gameplay options, then hell no. Infinity was a lot of fun the play and the sandbox alone put Amiibo integration to shame. I see this as a loss to the genre. Amiibo functionality is weak and uninspired; store and unnecessary 'key' to features one or twice a day. They are nothung more than glorified memory cards with limited use power ups that force you to tap you Amiibo on your gamepad once a day. Completely unnecessary. The figures themselves are mostly beautiful, but that they are even referred to as a gameplay rival to any of these other series is sad and speak more to the state of gaming. When i hear the virtually useless integration of most Amiibo compared to Infinity, where Infinity loses because they figures aren't to the writer's liking, it registers as the real world version of choosing flashy graphics over gameplay. Disney's offering buried Nintendo's Amiibos in gameplay and fun. Hands down. The sand box gameplay alone offered more than any Amiibo integration. I own Amiibo but for different reasons than any other toys to life; they are well designed - collectables. But there's no 'life' in the toy. Most Amiibo integration is laughable or cringe-worthy and some actually are a barrier to gameplay (Mario Party stands out in my mind). Most of tbe integration is fluff... it's the hard, flavorless gum packed in with the toy that you chew because you paid for it, not because it's particularly good.

Re: Exclusive: Unboxing The Super Famicom Box Art Collection Collector's Edition

Tsusasi

@NodesforNoids It's one of those Anime that if you just let yourself have fun, is so bad it's good. It's not my favorite by a long shot, but it's fun watching just to find all of the American rock/hair band names that are used for characters and other stuff. Over the top and ridiculous guilty pleasure.

I actually own the game as I got it in a 'blind bag' purchase at an anime convention, but I have yet to play it.

Re: Exclusive: FAST Racing NEO Update, Called 'Vertigo', Goes Live on 18th May

Tsusasi

I can't believe the number of whiney people complaining about this being late. I've played and enjoyed the game without issue so far, and an indie game being treated/updated (let alone adding features like a mini map) like a AAA title is welcome and refreshing. This is a great studio. Nintendo delays things all of the time... sometimes for years without apology. AND I'm pretty sure all updates have to be vetted by Nintendo as well before they can be released. 1st world problem whining just sounds sad and ridiculous. It was only a few months and 's' happens.

Re: Nintendo Wants Mobile to be a "Pillar of Profit"

Tsusasi

@PlywoodStick With the Gameboy/DS, that was a passage of lines, to use military terms; new tech replacing old tech on the front lines, phasing one out. Different scenario. And again, I'm just pointing our that they aren't replacing any 'pillars', they are augmenting their financial and IP strategies to maximize income potential.

Re: 2DS Gets a Price Cut to $79.99 in North America

Tsusasi

Still too steep for me as I already own multiple 3DS' for my family. When I find one for $50 or less, I'll definitely pick one up. It feels infinitely better in my hands and I only use 3D where it adds to the experience instead of just being 'neat' to look at.

Edit: The reasons I picked up the "new" 3DSxl were a) Xenoblade, b) the 3D tracking. (With my vision, the 3D on the older units was practically unusable... When I do use 3D, the new units actually make it tolerable) and c) the built in NFC reader. The larger screen doesn't hurt either (again - eyesight). Basically, the reasons everyone did but I did it hesitantly. If it weren't for it being easier on the eye strain I may not have.

Give me a more powerful "new" 2DS(XL) with a larger screen and all of the button and features of the "new" 3DSXL and I would definitely use it more often than the 3DSXL.

Re: Nintendo Unveils Two New 3DS Colours for Japan

Tsusasi

@ULTRA-64 Imho, it is only an issue if you allow yourself to be wound a bit too tight and consider your region to be the only one that matters and your preferences the only way of handling the spelling of words. Yes, Spelling. Not grammar. Adding a 'u' to make it more 'UK' has nothing to do with grammar. Grammar has to do with how words are used within a language. It. Doesn't. Matter.

Now about those new colors: Yaaaaaaaaasssssssss. Especially the green!
