Re: Talking Point: Will The Switch Ever Get A 'Nintendo Selects' Range?

The_Trooper49

I'm surprised we never got a physical release of super smash bros ultimate with the DLC on the cart (super smash bros ultimate, ultimate edition?). As for the selects line, makes no sense for Nintendo to do that if the next console is backwards compatible with switch cartridges. They can keep the older games selling at full price, and justify those higher prices if the new console can run the games at an increased frame rate or resolution etc.

Re: Talking Point: Which Games Were Just The Perfect Length?

The_Trooper49

Glad it isn't just me who found ToTK painfully long and boring... BoTW was amazing but I wish they had just released ToTK content as DLC. Paper Mario the Origami King also felt like an absolute chore to play because of the combat system, luckily I gave up after 10 hours rather than persevere to the end.

On the positive side, practically every arcade-style shmup is the ideal length for me with limited gaming time! 20-30 mins packed with non-stop action and then done. Since I got into them a few years ago I've had a lot less patience with games which have too much filler! My starting point was Danmaku Unlimited 3 - highly recommended

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Super Mario Bros. Wonder?

The_Trooper49

I'm enjoying it so far, but I've died only a handful of times and I've done the first 4 worlds, so I think the difficulty is way too low. I know I could add some difficulty myself by choosing those badges which make things harder, but that feels artificial - I would rather the levels themselves offered some platforming challenge. It is a fantastic looking, smooth playing, exciting game with loads of great ideas, but it falls short of being a masterpiece for me. Maybe I'll change my mind by the end if the last world is a bit tougher!

p.s. some of my favourite things in the game are straight up ripped off from Rayman Origins/Legends - specifically the musical/rhythm based challenges and levels. I wish there was a Rayman sequel to go with the mario and sonic games released this week!

Re: Soapbox: 'Switch 2' Doesn't Really Need Backwards Compatibility

The_Trooper49

I'll join the chorus of people disagreeing with this article! With the long lifespan of the switch and the number of digital purchases I have, if the switch 2 isn't backwards compatible, there will be no incentive for me to buy it until much later down the line (probably when they release an OLED switch 2!). Xbox have shown the right way to do backwards compatibility in my opinion, and Nintendo needs to start doing the same thing

Re: Soapbox: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom's Thunderous Callback To The Great Sky Island Is Perfect

The_Trooper49

By the time I got there I was totally burned out on the game, so didn't experience the joy, just rushed through. As with too many parts of TOTK, ultrahand/autobuild/spamming stamina potions is by far the easiest solution to most of the puzzles, and I felt no inclination to do anything other than the quickest thing to progress to the end of the game. BOTW with its much more limited nature, brought out my creativity a lot more than TOTK did!

Re: Review: Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp - A Pair Of Strategy Gems Delightfully Reimagined

The_Trooper49

Feels like one of those remakes that just wasn't really needed - the originals still hold up really well. I wish they had released those on NSO (to build up some hype) and then released a proper new entry in the series instead. I'm really torn on this one because I want to support it (to encourage a new entry!) but I don't really have time to play it with Zelda coming soon...

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (November 19th)

The_Trooper49

Crimzon Clover for me (went on sale this week and is rarely discounted) - so far it definitely lives up to the hype! Also if we have time, two player Taiko no Tatsujin with newly acquired drum controllers (apologies in advance to the neighbours!!)

Scarlet/Violet are the first Pokémon games for years that I'm actively avoiding, I just can't stand the look of the technical issues/framerate and I wanted more innovation like in Arceus rather than the same game I've played over and over again already. I'm sure I'll cave in and get it eventually but not in a rush

Re: XIII Remake Is Finally Coming To Switch In September

The_Trooper49

Loved the original and expected the switch version of the remake to be cancelled after the terrible reviews on PS4/Xbox One....The footage looks decent but the frame rate could do with being a bit smoother for my liking. I will be waiting for a review before getting this one, but I'm still excited for the release!

Re: Review: Wreckfest - An Absolute Banger (In A Good Way)

The_Trooper49

Great review of a great game! Fantastic port given the physics/demands of the game. 60fps is nice (GRID still has the crown as best non-mario kart racer on switch IMO) but the 30fps on offer here is perfectly playable. Like need for speed hot pursuit, I love that this game is simple, pure racing fun with no pointless open world or story!!

Re: Talking Point: Should We Still Be Pre-Ordering Games?

The_Trooper49

I've been pre-ordering pretty much every 1st party Nintendo release for the past few years (physical) - the quality is always excellent, and I've often found it is cheaper to pre-order physically than try to pick up the game shortly after release. Physical Nintendo published games also seem to really hold their value, so it feels like a win-win, get the game at release and if I ever need the cash, it is really easy to sell the game on for close to what I paid for the pre-order.

My most exciting ever pre-order was the switch itself back in 2017, I took a punt on it after the Wii U because I liked the hybrid console idea...turns out I really backed a winner that day!
