I'm almost an FPS hater but I'll vouch for TS2 on PS2 as just a wonderful, fun, great feeling game, in single player and multiplayer. lots to do and genuinely fun the whole time, and IIRC even a level editor 🤯

you can "add" gog games to your steam library, and then launch them from steam and even use steam input to configure the controls for those games. so, without being certain, i do think the answer is yes 👍 (and, "both" 😂)

i think my (our?) preference stems from being "mario people," as ive noticed that younger gamers and PC gamers dont seem to care where the buttons go, judging by the number of newer games ive played that are like "press triangle to open the door, press Y to jump, press L3 to run or whatever." 😵‍💫

to me, (on a Nintendo controller) y regular attacks and maybe runs, b jumps, a does special/heavy attacks and/or whatever you need to "do" in context, and X brings up a map, or menu, or magic sometimes.

if the controls arent mapped this way to begin with, ill remap them. if i cant remap them, i must be playing a Nintendo game (☺️✌️) but thank god then that I formed my brain around Nintendo default controls 😂

JFC someone please load up retro deck on a Steamdeck and put it in someone at Nintendo's hands.

PS - life gets better once you stop waiting years for Nintendo to "give" you basic usability features. ✌️

I respect that! I am completely ignoring the discourse besides what's happened in these comments sections (as usual for me.)

a year ago, i had nothing but faith and goodwill for this game, as a fan of the first game from jump. since then, i can plainly see from the trailers that it has become something I dont care to play. (i dont play halo either but its all i could think about when the first combat/gameplay trailer was shown.)

(imo metroid games should have about 3 lines of spoken dialogue max, if that gives you an idea of where my head's at 😆)

for those who always wanted Prime to be more of a space marines action epic with FPS controls, piles of teenage "cool" and broad situational comedy, im smiling through gritted teeth ✌️👍

cel shaded visuals are a disappointment. something about them mutes the atmosphere and emotional impact of a game for me.

besides that, is anyone else kinda surprised that Nintendo isnt trying to keep their franchises around, for themselves? millions of kids will think of "spiritual successors" before they think of the originals, if they even know about the originals 🙁

i agree with your take that the og prime game was a first person adventure (and that's how nintendo talked about it at the time) but it's clear to me that that was then and this is now, and to me this new game hardly resembles our old friend. 😔

also on the "rewind and save states" issue, id say that's what easy mode is for. if you still feel the game is too hard to get started with, then they needed to add a "very easy" mode.

as far as "practice mode," I truly believe that the way to play these games is to put it on easy, play til you die, then repeat. if I cant 1cc the first level on easy I have no business practicing the second, that's my philosophy ✌️👍

ill probably "lose" a few but in general i believe that the companies ive been ignoring for decades will be the ones that get heaviest into AI.

in other words trash companies make garbage games, AI will not change that either way.

"zero mission" has been on my backlog forever! i think I'll get into that and just pretend they aren't even making Metroid games anymore 😆 as a form of self care, haha

I'm gonna be real honest and say the only metroid games I've actually fallen in love with are og, super, and Prime 1, so the odds of this one really pleasing my tastes were pretty slim.

(OTOH i genuinely believe those are the best in the series, so I dont think it's unreasonable that I should want a new game that's more like those. ✌️ i give up hoping to see my taste reflected in nintendo's contemporary works again. ¡Viva la emulación!)

you know what? you've unlocked some third party repressed traumatic experiences for me 😂

I got tekken 2 and realized that if I didn't have a memory card, i couldnt retain the new fighters i was unlocking. so, I got my mom to take me to software etc... and i picked out a PERFORMANCE memory card! after all, it has SIXTEEN X the storage capacity of the more expensive sony one! ...

and yes, of course i wore out every third party controller i ever owned back in those days, while my first party controllers are mostly all still working to this day ✊

i remember all those "cooling" fan accessories, and i almost bought one for my glitching model 1 PSX, but it died first 😆 (i forget, was the PlayStation console first party? lol jk)

so, i take your point! I think in my mind the risks became so internalized and obvious that hearing you spell it out sounded odd to me, or over the top. ✌️ if that makes sense.

OTOH, I'll leave you with this:

i grew up in the NES era. I always considered first party to be the benchmark, and generally my preference, ive used 3rd party stuff this whole time and never had a problem, and never really heard of them before the switch era either besides the boilerplate "warnings."

Respectfully, I disagree with this analysis. IMO the slide is part of a red herring, the narrative tricking the audience into believing Kaneda is the big hero in the making when actually he is just a tough kid, blindsided, perplexed, and humbled by the happenings of the film as the rest of us.

i recently got a steamdeck and I'm just so much happier with it on every level 😄 i shouldve realized it sooner, but my latent Nintendo fandom was still too strong.

in particular, the ergonomics, build quality, and flexibility are just light years ahead. the eshop is so much better it's not even funny, from the filtering, the promotions, the prices, and the actual performance of the app. the 16:10 screen is perfect for pc gaming and applications, and a perfect compromise for emulation and media.

not to mention, its a full on PC, all i had to do was hook it up to a mouse + keyb, and get a little usbc hub for a monitor. and, I didnt have a PC for many years, so thats huge for me. 👍

i realized over the switch generation that I'm just not that into what Nintendo is doing anymore, which is sad for me, but it is what it is! onward and upward.✌️❤️

I'm a little annoyed that i have to wait even longer to play this on steam because they are still putting the damn switch carts together 😮‍💨

anyway this is still the first game ive actually anticipated ahead of time in a long time, so I can wait a little longer for it. 🙂👍
