Re: Some Fans Are Calling For A Boycott Of Pokémon After Creatures Inc Shares Controversial Tweet

I love the complete dolts in this comment thread throwing around SJW, etc., like these guys visited the Meiji Shrine or something. Imagine if some VW employees visited a shrine to the Third Reich and excitedly posted about it on Twitter. Would you call me a snowflake for considering that obtuse and offensive? Learn some history and respect it before you run your little mouths off online. Christ almighty.

"We can not take requests for specific titles because we do not know what is in each blind box."

"We have done our absolute best to minimize the chance that you will receive a duplicate game if you order multiple blind boxes."

These feel like contradictory statements. How can they minimize duplication if they don't know?

I had a friend who had the first one. He insisted he liked it because of the item collecting and minigames, but it was obvious that he just wanted to oggle some digital cheesecake. I have no philosophical problem with this except to the extend that the playing field is not equal. If women or queerfolk want to oggle beefcake they're relegated to the doldrums of a yaoi deviant art account. Wherefore art thou, legit Hyabusa goods?

This comments section, with its "PC run amok" thread? That's the reason I'm profoundly embarrassed to be a gamer.

If they want to be considerate and self correct that's their decision. If you disagree so much that you're this mad, then maybe just vote with your wallet and stay away. You can use the money you'll save purchasing an Atari VCS and copy of Custer's Revenge to while away the hours lamenting the better times of yesteryear, when none of us had to worry about silly things like being PC or having mutual respect.

@JohnQuixote

I feel like many who post here get off on their anger. Like, I can think of plenty of reasons to criticize Nintendo, but the abject rage on display here is legitimately disturbing. I cannot fathom working up this much negativity over a videogame, but people are posting as if Nintendo were putting children in jail.

I try to wade in with logic and an appeal to reason when I can, but most seem less interested in actual discussion than their spitting, poorly-spelled histrionics.

@Notshane

Your other points were all, "Yeah, but Mega Man," which I did address.

Look, you seem to think I'm against this. I'm not. I actually don't care. But if you cannot consider the logistical mountain looming between every game and support, I can't really help you. Yes, it would be great if Capcom would implement support so y'all could play Mega Man 2 with a boxy, uncomfortable controller like we had no choice about in 1988. My whole point was that it's on Capcom to patch it in, and isn't on Nintendo to enforce. That's why Nintendo isn't advertising universal support: it's not a practical solution outside of the NES environment.

Re: Wireless NES Controllers Won't Work With Other Games On Nintendo Switch

@Notshane

The switch has four face buttons, four shoulder buttons, plus and minus, in addition to the home and capture. The NES has two game buttons and start/select. That means six fewer buttons, which could cause a logistical impossibility in a lot of games without bringing another Joycon in tandem.

Unless Nintendo implemented gatekeeping to literally block developers from using them outside of the NES emulator (unlikely), I think it's going to be a matter of whether devs want to patch their existing games or build in special support for future games. I think Nintendo doesn't expect many will do so, and frankly neither do I.

Re: Wireless NES Controllers Won't Work With Other Games On Nintendo Switch

TheDanslator

@Notshane

Right, but what I'm saying is that this is probably up to individual developers as to whether they're going to patch their games to support this given the button limitation. The fact that the NES controller has just four buttons and a D-pad could make some support impossible without also using a Joycon for tertiary commands. Some games may not work well that way, and others may not work at all. Nintendo saying that they are meant only for NES use just means they can't guarantee any other developers will bite, and they can't force support of an optional peripheral. The fact that they'll get minimal payout for their effort probably means most developers won't want to try.

Re: Wireless NES Controllers Won't Work With Other Games On Nintendo Switch

TheDanslator

I don't think there's a way to stop developers from supporting these controllers if they want to. The issue is, there aren't enough buttons to match the standard Joycon layout. So you're asking developers to potentially limit the gameplay so a subset of users can feel young again. Maybe they can split the difference and have you use a Joycon in tandem with the NES controller, but then it starts to sound unwieldy. Honestly, I'll just stick with my Pro controller and sit this whole thing out regardless. It's LEAGUES more comfortable than the boxy old NES controller.

Re: Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 Design Director Laughs Off Question About Switch Release

@whanvee

It's been happening since before then. A lot of devs jumped ship when the Big N opted for carts rather than CDs with the N64. (It's why they lost Squaresoft's support to Sony with FFVII.) Heck, even the SNES lost ground to Sega with Nintendo's staunchly conservative take on violence, and maintaining a kid-friendly image. Love them or not (I tend to love, but I have my moments) their insistence on zigging will always guarantee they also buck some degree of mainstream dev support.

Now, do they really need it? I can't tell you the last time I played one of these paint-by-numbers shooters. But I'm logging tons of time on my portable indie machine. (Not to mention the evergreen AAA output from Nintendo themselves.) I'm not losing much sleep, and I daresay neither is Nintendo.

Re: Cosmic Star Heroine Dev Explains Its "Frustrating" Experience Working With Nintendo

TheDanslator

I dunno what better exposure would have done. I knew this game was coming, and there were more than enough reviews out there to get a sense of it. Their trailer isn't great, frankly, and the art direction of the character designs are a bit amateur looking. (Not that I can do better, mind you.) I can see why a lot of people would stay away.

I actually bought this game, but I struggled for a while against my gut feeling that it was going to be meh. So far it's just been fine. It's Chrono Trigger lite with a cyberpunk spin (cool in theory), but the story is as cookie cutter as it gets, the dialogue one dimensional, and the battle system is unblanced. I'm enjoying it for its Sega CD retro feel, but I'm not sure if I can recommend it in good faith.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo chose to focus their not unlimited resources elsewhere because they knew it wasn't likely to hit. I'm sorry for him and his team because they tried hard, but sometimes failure isn't anyone else's fault.

You kids, with your expectations of accuracy and effort. In my day we had spoony bards, masters of unlocking, and all your bases were belong to us--by gum we liked it just fine! Why, the word salad nonsense of FFT's tutorial was the pinnacle of training: you figured out the whole thing all by yourself, while the game taunted you with indecipherable babble. That's how real gamers do it!
