Re: Review: DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power - A Kid-Friendly Alternative To Grimdark DC

I wouldn't have thought a videogame about superheroes aimed at young girls would be a flashpoint for so many edgelords. sigh Gamerz gonna gamer, I guess.

Anyway, I originally clicked on this because my daughter likes games and these characters, and it surprised me that it might actually be good. I'm not sure it's worth dropping $50 for, but doubtless it will go on sale someday. So, I'm going to leave this garbage fire now and add it to my wishlist.

Re: Poll: Super Mario 3D All-Stars Is One Week Away - Which Game Will You Play First?

TheDanslator

SM64, because I am super excited to share it with my five year old daughter. The other games are still a little too hard for her. 64 is also probably the single greatest feat in gaming history, which deserves to go first.

For myself, I'm excited to finally play Galaxy. I never got it on Wii back in the day, and I've always regretted missing out.

I'm also interested to revisit Sunshine. I never finished it because I lost interest halfway through. I've always wondered if that was frustration at not getting more SM64, or if the game was truly just not that exciting. I will finally get to find out!

Re: Scalpers Are Already Listing The "Limited" Switch Release Super Mario 3D All-Stars

In the U.S. preorders are still available at all the big options, so I'm guessing these are either people who jumped the gun and assumed it would be rarer than it is, or they're just hoping that eventually it sells out.

My guess is Nintendo is making more than enough for anyone who wants a physical copy to get one by March. I still contend that after that all three games will be available individually. You just don't put that much effort into remastering and optimizing for a platform to trash it right away. It's throwing money away.

I remember when this came out. I had it pre-ordered and kept bugging my mom to call the store: "Try! They might have gotten it in and just not called us yet!" It's amazing she never got fed up and took away my SNES.

I think it's fair to say that these games don't always surpass the originals, but I love that this exists. And what's even better, is now we can all play our preferred versions of each game any time. Everyone wins!

Re: Poll: No, Really, What Was Nintendo's Worst Year?

TheDanslator

@OorWullie They said that months ago, before I think anyone really understood the gravity of the situation. It may not have affected software in the short-term, but I believe their conservative approach to summer announcements shows they are unsure of whether they can fulfill their long-term releases on time. I suspect it will continue to be a dripfeed of small announcements going forward, rather than any major pushes.

Re: Poll: No, Really, What Was Nintendo's Worst Year?

2020 needs an asterisk. Nintendo can't be blamed for a global pandemic. Also, fiscally they're doing well right now thanks to the public buying Switches and the software they had ready being a smash hit; it's just their upcoming games that got hosed. If the pandemic continues on its current course, next year will be even worse.

Re: Talking Point: Are You Prepared To Spend $70 On The Latest Games?

TheDanslator

The Genesis port of Virtua Racing cost $100 in 1994, due to the extra development costs compared with other games. I also remember paying $70 pretty routinely back then: Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy 3, Street Fighter 2... it's crazy that this industry keeps getting cheaper, but gamers keep getting more childish in their attitudes toward pricing. It's a microcosm of society's broader relationship with modern convience, really.
