Re: Team Cherry Explains Hollow Knight: Silksong's "Steep Difficulty"

T0mizawa

People learn things at different speed.

Some people are able to drive a manual into morning traffic within the first week, but some need to learn auto in a parking lot for a while before learning manual.
Same applies here for HK & SS, and HK & SS are only games. Not job, not life.
What Team Cherry suggesting is basically: if you can't drive manual into the traffic day 1, the only option is drive manual in a parking lot while some a-hole yelling Git Gud.
How about encourage you to try auto first? No! GTFO.

I'm fine with pre-patch SS because I'm able to finish Pantheon 5 & Path of Pain in HK.
But when I started to play HK for the first time, it was on PC, with cheat engine (unlimited Geo, Rancid Egg, Essence), so I could learn the game without getting frustrated by death punishment and run backs.
After defeating the Hollow Knight and get Ending 1, I turned every cheat OFF and started a new save to 112% the game on my own, and while the journey was hard, it was fun.
Without playing HK with cheats first, I think I would give up during Soul Master fight.

That's why I think Team Cherry should NOT nerf SS like what they did in Patch 1, but they SHOULD offer a separate Easy mode, like Metroid Dread.

When people ask me if they should give HK or SS a try, I used to say yes, while they are hard, but they are cheap.
Now I would tell them while personally I love the game, they should borrow the game from a friend, try it first, before "wasting" their money.
And I'd only recommend any newcomers to get the game on PC. More control options (keyboard etc), able to mod, able to backup save file, ultrawide support, DRM free, able to refund.

Re: Talking Point: Is Hollow Knight: Silksong Too Difficult?

T0mizawa

@SmaggTheSmug I never said the difficulty should be lowered for everyone, in fact I said the complete opposite.

Not sure about the Tacos but many restaurants (e.g. Japanese Ramen) offering people choices, while recommending first timer to try let's say their default 3/5 spicy level, but one can also order 0/5 or 5/5.

And that's what I'm saying and what I think HK & SS should do, not one size fits all, but choices.

Metroid Dread got one-hit death Dread mode, but you don't have to play that, or at least don't have to play that for the very 1st playthrough.

Same for HK & SS, not everyone should play current difficulty for their 1st playthrough, for people who want to, they can, but for people who don't, we need an new lower difficulty mode.

If Silksong could let people play permadeath steel soul mode as their 1st playthrough (by unlocking the mode using secret code), why not also make a separate easy mode?

Getting killed by a trap bench or by kamikaze boss after a fight will turn more potential new comers away. Give people some love, so more of them will GitGud & enjoy steel soul mode in the future.

Choices.

Re: Talking Point: Is Hollow Knight: Silksong Too Difficult?

T0mizawa

As an "average" Hollow Knight player who "only achieved the bare minimum" (aka, got all achievements and cleared P5 & PoP), Silksong SHOULD ADD a new "EASY" mode.

Personally I'm fine with SilkSong's current difficulty, but those "GitGud" gangs thinking the current difficulty is fine for everyone will only make the game or the genre worse. Just like those "pro" players almost killed the fighting genre.

Why not make the game more enjoyable for more people? What will someone lose with a new easier mode? Other than being able to be a loser who got no life but Hollow Knight and laughing at others who does not able to kill the boss? Nothing.

An "Easy" Mode lowering Act 1 & 2's difficulty by allowing players to restart a boss fight directly without losing anything will encourage more players to "GitGud" instead of punishing them.
Also "one time trap" things like those benches SHOULD be nerfed (but not completely removed) for "easy" mode.
(If something can be avoided by googling guides & maps, or by backing up & restore a save file, than it should be nerfed for easy mode)

Metroid Dread, while I think the game is too short and boss fights are not as fun as Hollow Knight (or SilkSong), but balancing wise, Dread is way better than HK (& SS).

Re: How Do Nintendo Switch 2 Virtual Game Cards Work? - Game Transfer & Lending Guide

T0mizawa

So for DLCs, even someone have the physical base game, they still need to manually load the virtual "DLC" card to the console if they want to play offline?
That's so... stupid.
While this is not downgrade because the old system was so dumb, the new system is not improved or convenient at all.

Old Windows popup: "You may be a victim of software counterfeiting", "This copy of Windows is not genuine".
Now Nintendo: "You may be a victim of buying legit copy of physical games".

Re: Nintendo Says "Nothing Bad" Will Happen If You Press Switch 2's C Button Without A NSO Sub

T0mizawa

Don't worry, nothing gonna explode, nothing gonna burn,

just a popup blocking half or the entire screen to annoy you, maybe redirect all button input from the game to the popup, maybe we gonna pause your game, display and add an error code into your system's undeletable error history to shame you not paying, and you may lose your offline CPU match due to that nagging popup.

But nothing bad will happen, you are still alive.

Re: Community: What Questions About Switch 2 Do You Still Have For Nintendo?

T0mizawa

1) Any review / comparison for S2 Pro controller's d-pad? S1 Pro controller's d-pad is too small & soft for 2D game action games or puzzle games like Tetris.

2) S1 game docked mode graphics on S2 handheld mode?

3) Any resolution boost for S1 games without "edition" DLC or S2 patch? Just like higher res GC games on NSO emulator. For example native 1080P Xenoblade 2 without any extra patch?

4) How cross save works between S2 edition game and S1 game? For example, kirby forgotten land, S2 edition has extra contents, so can S1 base game use S2 edition's save?

5) Virtual Game Card, I know it can make digital game + DLC into one virtual game card, but what about physical game with eShop DLC? Can people eject and insert DLC "ONLY"?

6) Currently only 11 games announced to have free S2 patch on Nintendo Japanese website, Any free S2 performance patch planned for games like Age of Calamity?

7) How / How well NSO+ GC games works without GC controller? Most people will suffer when playing F-Zero GX without analogue trigger.

Re: The Switch 2 Will Emulate Switch Games, Because It Shares No Internal Hardware With Its Predecessor

T0mizawa

1) X360, PS3, GC, Wii, Wii U are PowerPC;
2) PSP is MIPS;
3) Vita, 3DS, Switch, Switch 2, (Apple and Android) Smartphones are ARM;
4) PS4, PS5, X1, X Series are x86.

Normally when people talking about emulation, they mean emulating x) on y), i.e. different architecture, e.g. Wii (PowerPC) on Windows (x86).

While Switch 2 and Switch using different chips, they are all ARM.

Yes, technically one can say it's "emulation" because the core is not exact same, unlike early PS3 contains complete PS2 hardware or DS contains full GBA hardware.

But Nintendo's way of saying it's emulation is more like 90% BS marketing making excuses + 10% actual technical talk.

They want people to thinking and believe this is more like PS3 games on Windows PC PS3 emulator rather than Android 10 apps on Android 11 phones. Which is not true.

So Nintendo and some extreme fans could defend when someone asking "Why only few Switch games got graphic performance boost on Switch 2?".

If they call this same architecture crossing gen thing "super difficult emulation" (and compare it with something like PS3 on PC), then running 2010s intel Core CPU Windows games on 2020s AMD Ryzen Windows is emulation too.

Yes it needs some work, like x86 Windows games running on x86 Linux Steam deck, but that's not Wizardry.

If community driven Switch Emulator can improve graphics on PC, Nintendo has no excuse not doing it for most Switch games on Switch 2, for free.

Re: Nintendo Announces 'Virtual Game Cards' For Switch, Unlocking Digital Lending

T0mizawa

According to Nintendo Japan (https://www.nintendo.com/jp/games/virtual-game-card/index.html)

1. We can still use the old primary/secondary verification system
( 「オンラインライセンスの設定」をONにすると、インターネットに接続してソフトをはじめる従来の方法でも遊べます。 )

2. This new system basically means instead of have only one primary system capable of playing offline, people can set "primary" for each game individually.

3. Unlike primary/secondary system, one can have 1 primary and multiple secondary, this new virtual card system can only be used on two consoles.
(「バーチャルゲームカード」をセットできるのは、一つのニンテンドーアカウントにつき同時に2台までです)
Unsure, but it seems also means one could insert virtual card into two system and play at the same time without internet. (GREAT!)

4. Lending/borrowing can only be done within the same family group.

5. If someone borrowed your game and you want your game back before 14days, it seems instead of you, THAT GUY's Switch need to be connected to the internet, otherwise, good luck.
(期間が終了する前に返却してもらう場合、貸出先の本体がインターネットに接続している必要があります。)

6. (Unsure how this system will handle Physical game + digital DLC)

7. Virtual Cards managing can also be done using Nintendo Account website without using Switch.
(また、ニンテンドーアカウントのウェブページからも、バーチャルゲームカードの管理やセットができます。)

I have multiple GB, GC, DS, but the old primary console verification DRM system is why I only have one Switch, and the old NNID DRM is why I only have one 3DS (before cfw).

While this new Virtual Card is far from ideal, but without this, I refuse to buy a new Switch or even Switch 2, so GJ Nintendo.

@Princess_Lilly Search "RATATAN" or "Project JabberWocky", a Patapon spiritual successor from the creator of Patapon,, announced at BitSummit 2023 just few days ago.

Since Sony (Jim Ryan) does not care about their own IP, especially the ones from their Japanese Studio, I guess we will see more and more "spiritual successor" on other platforms.

Re: Nintendo Confirms There's No CPU Or RAM Upgrade In The OLED Switch

T0mizawa

No performance upgrade means everyone still have to endure s##tty graphics using handheld mode when playing games like XC2, which defeat the purpose of having a bigger OLED screen.

Having upgraded hardware which enables better handheld image quality doesn't require much update or even no update at all for most games IIRC, just load and use docked mode graphic settings, that's all. Also won't break compatibility like New 3DS only games.

Guess I still have to wait for emulators to let me play XC2 in its full glory.

Re: Nintendo Switch OLED Screen: Why Is OLED Better Than LCD?

T0mizawa

Not limited to here or limited to Switch...

Just calling something better based on personal taste and previous experience, despite people have different taste and we have a industry standard to test a particular screen is good or not.
Simply calling OLED is better than LCD without comparing the actual OLED used on the device with the old LCD used on the older model.
Also without professionally test the performance of the actual screen being used like color accuracy and state the Delta E number etc.
And only mentioning the pros without mentioning the cons of OLED.

...Fine...

Re: Nintendo Switch OLED Model Vs. Standard Switch / Switch Lite: Full Tech Specs Comparison

T0mizawa

@Pokester99 I do own both too, both bought in Japan, bought my OLED phat new unused 3 years after I bought my LCD slim day one when it released.

What I think is that "vividness" is a personal preference thing, I totally agree and respect many people think OLED is more "vivid".
But that doesn't mean OLED has better color accuracy or suffers no issues at all in comparison with LCD.
People tend to prefer bright over-saturated images (like food photos with filters applied), there's nothing wrong with this, but this doesn't mean OLED is superior.

Eye candy is an easy sell, that's why many new techs are using OLED, not because it's superior.
For people prefer higher contrast, "vivid" image, doesn't care or doesn't notice burn-in and flickering, OLED is a good choice.
For people care about burn-in and flickering, like me, just go LCD.
(About color accuracy, OLED could produce accurate color too, but Vita's is not, and many manufacture won't calibrate the screen to make it accurate, because there are more people care about "vividness" than "accuracy")

What I'm trying to say here is, if you know what you like and you know the pros & cons of LCD and OLED, go buy what you like.
But if you don't know, and think OLED is superior in every way, better do the homework first before give your money to Nintendo to buy this new model.

Re: Nintendo Switch OLED Model Vs. Standard Switch / Switch Lite: Full Tech Specs Comparison

T0mizawa

To all OLED lovers, especially who still think Vita's OLED is fantastic & far superior than LCD, and thus the new OLED Switch must be fantastic, go open duckduckgo (or google), search "Internet Archive Wayback Machine" and enter the URL below to read this article from 9 years ago:

Digital Versus - "PS Vita OLED Screen: Colour Fidelity, Sub-Pixels"
http://www.digitalversus.com/games-console/sony-playstation-vita-p12777/ps-vita-oled-screen-colour-fidelity-sub-pixels-n23993.html

TL;DR, Vita's OLED sucks, its color accuracy is terrible.

OLED doesn't automatically mean better image quality, just wait for screen test and review, also don't forget OLED burn-in issues (Static HUD Elements), and then consider to buy the OLED model or not.

EDIT: also don't forget to search about "OLED PWM eye strain" aka "OLED flickering with low brightness" before making the decisions.

Re: The Zelda & Loftwing Skyward Sword amiibo Will Cost More Than Regular Figures

T0mizawa

If Nintendo's willing to keep features behind Amiibos instead of keep them behind DLCs, then increasing the price is not a big deal for people who just want to access extra in-game features.

People want buy the figures will buy the figures, people just want feature unlocks could still get cheap substitute elsewhere.

It's a physical toy, not a dumb DRM protected 100KB digital key file locked to a specific account which forcing gamers to pay expensive price, or even buy the limited edition of the game on day 1 without knowing if the game is good because it's a limited pre-order bonus code.

And we have "other options" to get those in game features unlocked without paying ridiculous price, also without any risk of get our console or account banned because of account sharing or hacking.
No matter how expensive these Amiibos are, still better than DLCs IMO.

Re: Random: Take a Nostalgic Virtual Walk With This Video of Every StreetPass Puzzle

T0mizawa

Missing the good old days when I can easily get 10 passes within an hour by just walking around in the city of Tokyo every weekends.

Also the good old days, when I use my phone to find out StreetPass relay point's Wi-Fi MAC address from a few Pokemon Centers/Stores like the one in Tokyo Station, and then setup a HomePass spoofing relay at home to "Street Pass" 5~6 real people everyday just leaving my 3DS home before Nintendo end the service 3 years ago.

And now... no one's bringing their 3DS out.

Re: 8BitDo Reveals Its New "Pro 2" Bluetooth Controller, Compatible With Switch

T0mizawa

I got my pro+ about a year and a half ago. It's ok, don't think this is "the ultimate controller" or "better than official ones" like some people claim.
Its analog stick needs better calibration. When calibrating on Windows, push 100% at 2 o'clock, Y+ value is still as high as 12 o'clock.
Sometime it won't stop vibrating unless disconnect and power the controller off when playing on PC, unlike official Xbox controller.
Sometime won't auto reconnect to iOS and needs to pair again when using iOS mode.
Sticks and triggers on Xbox series S/X controller feels better (but much higher price of course)
And recent firmware updates really make lot of things worse, like press L3 + R3 to switch custom profile? What about games require L3 + R3?
Pro+'s an OK "does many things on many different hardware" controller, but I still prefer to use the official ones for each hardware respectively.
So Pro 2? Not sure will buy one, but will keep an eye on it.

Re: Samsung To "Aggressively Position" OLED Tech Across Promising Market Sectors Including "Gaming Console Segments"

T0mizawa

@driftydrift Sure Samsung is more trustworthy than some random company, but just like TSR3've said, I'm not sure the OLED panel Nintendo decide to use well be good enough since it probably won't be the premium high-end ones in Samsung's range, especially if Switch Pro is not a expensive "Premium Pro" model like PS4 Pro but more of a "Refresh" like a New 3DS.

As a owner of both phat & slim Vita, having bad pixels on all my DS & DS Lite & 3DS, enjoying Vita Slim and Switch's LCD more than Vita Phat's OLED, planning to buy the upcoming Switch Pro, I'm a little bit worrying.

Also I think PS Vita's OLED was from Samsung too. (Sure, that was 9 years ago, a lot has changed)

Re: Samsung To "Aggressively Position" OLED Tech Across Promising Market Sectors Including "Gaming Console Segments"

T0mizawa

@T0mizawa
Just some additional information regarding OLED.

From a review published 9 years ago by Digital Versus: "PS Vita OLED Screen: Colour Fidelity, Sub-Pixels"
(The site is no longer accessable, should use Internet Archive's wayback machine to read)
http://www.digitalversus.com/games-console/sony-playstation-vita-p12777/ps-vita-oled-screen-colour-fidelity-sub-pixels-n23993.html

Just as a reference. I'm not saying Switch Pro's OLED will 100% suck, but be prepared if Nintendo decide to use cheap low quality panel, it might suck.
Of course, technology advanced a lot in 9 years but remember it was Sony, and PS Vita was very expensive and technology packed at the time.

Quote:
"It's not too much of a surprise to see that colours aren't reproduced accurately. The average Delta E is 5.2, whereas we consider colours to be accurate with a Delta E of 3 or lower."

"We measured an average colour temperature of 8833 K, while the ideal reading should be nearer 6500 K."

"Finally, the gamma (see below) holds up well enough, even if the average reading comes out at 2.3 instead of 2.1."

"Although the PS Vita screen doesn't reproduce colours accurately, it still gives flattering results thanks to its monster contrast ratio."

"It's interesting to note that when you view the PS Vita screen displaying a black image in a dark room, darker black spots seem to appear on the display."

Re: Samsung To "Aggressively Position" OLED Tech Across Promising Market Sectors Including "Gaming Console Segments"

T0mizawa

If Nintendo's going to use OLED, just fingers crossed they won't cheap out on the panel.

People tend to talk about OLED is just way better than LCD without comparing the specific panel being used on their device.

For example, PS Vita, I have a phat 3G and a slim, all bought new in Japan many years ago. Phat's OLED looks more vivid and slim's LCD looks warmer.
But phat's OLED's color is over saturated, and just like slim's warmer LCD, not accurately reproduced. It also has burn in problem and weird black spot / texture on a black screen when view in dark.
Yet people still using photos taken by camera to compare those displays, while the camera's white balance is often wrong and calibrated using phat's OLED screen which make phat's OLED looks more color accurate and slim's LCD looks even warmer but in reality there are not.

Yes OLED has better contrast ratio and it's more advanced, but a color accurate well made and well calibrated LCD is also very good.

Personally, I just wish Nintendo chose to use high quality LCD, the only thing I actually want from Switch Pro is games could finally be played using current docked mode's graphic settings in handheld mode.

Re: Poll: Do You Like The Chibi Art Style In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl?

T0mizawa

Personally I wish it could be Gen VI's style, but chibi style is also fine. But making everything looks so cheap is not fine.
Just compare this with other games with cel shading, and also compare its battle model with Pokemon Masters. This looks even worse than a smartphone F2P game.
Chibi ≠ Cheap, "fix" chibi won't fix its cheapness, and chibi is not an excuse for its cheapness.

Re: Sinnoh Confirmed: Pokémon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl Officially Announced For Switch

T0mizawa

Make a huge MOD base on a 3DS Gen VI game, remove anime style cel-shading, change all human character's overworld model to something made by random amateur for their homework after they played fall guys for a whole day, then port it to Switch.
That's Shiningly Brilliant.
Can't wait to see them announce there will be a sign in the game mentions "the Distortion World project has started".
While playing my Platinum on my DS Lite.

Re: Controversial Rising Sun Design Removed From Street Fighter II's Re-Release

T0mizawa

What surprises me more, is only a few sites like Japanese game blog はちま起稿 (Hachima) mentioning Capcom also changed Fei Long (Hong Kong)'s flag to PRC flag when reporting about this Rising Sun problem.
(Kotaku only mentioned this as a small footnote)

It used to be British Hong Kong flag but later changed to Hong Kong's regional flag in 30th Anniversary Collection, and now, the PRC flag.

Hong Kong, despite being a so-called "one country, two systems" SAR (special administrative region) for 50 years (expire in 2047), having its own flag and special SAR passport, requiring special permit for traveling to and from Hong Kong for other people, got its flag changed.
BTW, Zangief still has U.S.S.R. flag.

Seems no one remember what happened in Hong Kong since 2019...
All hail communism, and don't piss the su-POOH-reme leader off LOL

Thanks for the links.
Always thought TMS is a Nintendo game because it's published by Nintendo globally and even listed as 「任天堂のソフト」(Nintendo's game) on Nintendo's Japanese official website. (Just like Astral Chain, developed by Platinum and published by Nintendo)
But since Atlus made the decision and did the localization, yeah, shame on them.
