It's time to dig out your amiibo, collectors! Well, if you're planning to play Xenoblade Chronicles 3, anyway.
Revealed during today's Nintendo Direct focused on the upcoming Xenoblade title, you'll be able to tap your amiibo while you're playing to receive some helpful items. Yep, that's any amiibo!
Of course, if you have the Smash Ultimate Shulk to hand, then you'll get a cool little bonus. Noah — or anyone who plays the Swordfighter class — will be able to wield the Monado, the iconic sword from Xenoblade Chronicles, in battle.
If only the Woolly Yoshi could make all of your Xenoblade characters turn into woollen toys. Imagine the fun!
This wasn't the only new feature we got from the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Direct, however. We got a brand new trailer, an Expansion Pass reveal, and lots and lots of new shots of the world. It looks stunning, and we can't wait to get lost in Aionios.

A perfect way to implement Amiibo.
It's a nice cosmetic, but doesn't affect gameplay in any way.
I think Nintendo should release an official way to us manage "digital amiibos". We could buy them digitally in the eShop and use in compatible games.
Nice, still have my Shulk ready
@RCGamer agree. There would still be people who want to collect the physical ones. And those are too often sold out.
Oh hey, this is actually a neat bonus! It actually adds something somewhat substantial while not feeling like too much or too little! Now only if Nintendo would reissue the actual amiibo lol
I never understood why Nintendo fans liked content locked behind an additional paywall ....lootboxes?! bad! microtransactions?! bad! content locked behind amiibo? AMAZING!! ..what a hypocrisy
I hate amiibos. As if microtransactions weren't bad enough.
Finally, a use for my $35 Shulk amiibo. Shame they didn’t add anything for the upcoming Pyra/Mythra figures.
Ummm... the Shulk amiibo is from Smash 4, not Ultimate.
Anyway, if I ever get the game, my Japanese Shulk will finally be usable outside Smash.
If only I could find a shulk amiibo….please let me give you money for this!!!
Kinda hoping for a Pyra/Mythra amiibo reveal here but that's ok! It's Shulk time!
Avoiding spoilers as much as I can.
Anyway, a nice surprise without being so much a spoiler. My then three year old tore the sword arm off of my Shulk Amiibo (I can’t have nice things), hopefully it won’t affect the cosmetics.
@BlackenedHalo some people probably give Amiibo a pass because it’s at least something physical that can double as a decoration in your room
Personally not a fan of amiibo exclusive content. Give an option to just buy digital content at a much cheaper price.
@RCGamer while they’re at it, let me register the amiibos I have so I don’t need to fish out a box of toys to use them… have to check if I have shulk now
Great, now if only my kids hadn't destroyed my Shulk amiibo years ago.
Have to dig mine out from storage. If shulk hasn't run off.
Did Shulk amiibo ever exist anywhere besides eBay? We don't have them all, about 40, but on my mind that was 1 of the hardest ones to find. Reissue would be nice, but I won't hold my breath.
@rjejr I've noticed Nintendo has been reissuing the sold out amiibo for upcoming games (the Kirby series were restocked in the UK before Forgotten Land released) so I bet Shulk will come out along with the Pyra and Mythra ones whenever they release, though with the NFC chip shortage and the game's early release I'm being it won't be anytime soon.
Ahhh I just sold my Shulk to CEX the other day to put toward buying a second Wii U, oh well
I still have my Shulk amiibo. Bought it years ago, before my family moved to a rental home, from Toys R Us, at least a year or two before they closed, which was when I bought the NES Classic Edition.
But the amiibo aren't entirely worthless. You get daily item drops from them, like in Breath of the Wild.
Quote from Xenoblade official Japanese twitter ゼノブレイド総合 @XenobladeJP
「※モナドの見た目にはゲームクリア後に全ての方が変更できます。」
「※Everyone could use Monado weapon skin after the game is completed.」
Anyone else feel like it was a miss opportunity when they didn't add additional amiibo locked Mii costumes to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe when they announced the new tracks?
Oh jog on with this bollocks.
I am very much over amiibos.
@T0mizawa
Well that is something at least.
Nothing should be locked behind a piece of plastic in a full priced game.
Oh nice I actually have a Shulk amiibo.
The way some are going on here you'd swear blind Nintendo locked actual story content and not whats pretty much a sword skin.
Finally my Shulk amiibo will come in handy.
@BlackenedHalo Skyward Sword HD had quite a bit of backlash, but I see your point
Nice! Time to dust off that amiibo!
@Otoemetry It certainly seems like 1 Nintendo should reissue, but Nintendo doesn't always seem to do what I think is the right thing. Shulk does seem popular enough that they would all sell out though. The Target by me has about 6 each of the $25 Zelda SS one and $30 Metroid 2-pack. If they reissue Shulk at $15.99 it will sell out. Hopefully we don't have too wait too long for Pyra & Mtyhra, I'm still waiting for Sephiroth, but not holding my breath.
But flat out for real, don't announce that amiibo unlock a weapon skin in a game if those amibo aren't readily available for sale, that's just wrong. 😝
@rjejr I have a feeling it was originally planned to announce the Pyra and Mythra amiibo in this direct, but the swapping of release dates between Xenoblade and Splatoon meant the amiibo weren't quite ready... if they come out this autumn we'll know that was the case haha
@Otoemetry Well that does make sense. But this being Nintendo those amiibo are probably planned for holiday 2023 when they finish the game.
