Re: It Sucks To Say It, But Castlevania Requiem Isn't Coming To Switch

SimonTime

@Damo Ah, I skimmed over the bit where it stated that it was being funded by Sony.

I have a preemptive bias against Konami as a whole, as its terrible handling of the fantastic IPs they own is extremely disappointing to me.

Don't get me wrong though, I am still happy for the PS4 owners that get to experience the game, and I hope for their sake that Konami doesn't shoehorn overpriced DLC, microtransactions and other similar anti-consumer practices like that into the experience.

Re: Hackers Have Already Found A Way To Maximise Items And PM Tickets In Pokémon Quest

SimonTime

As a hacker/modder, in my honest opinion (and this is coming from someone who hates microtransactions), I would never ever support a mod like this under any circumstances, this is piracy.

My mods follow these rules:

It must be a single player game.

If a game has online features (leaderboards etc.), remove all the URLs so it cannot contact the server(s).

NEVER EVER give out premium upgrades for free.

Re: The Virtual Console Isn't Coming To Switch, Nintendo Confirms

SimonTime

What is going on at Nintendo headquarters?
The Switch now has an unpatchable exploit that allows you to run the Dolphin emulator (among many others), yet they won't provide a legitimate method?
It's just utterly stupid. They are basically asking people who want portable Gamecube and Wii games to hack their Switch.

Re: Hackers Have Found A Way To Exploit The Switch, And It's Apparently 'Unpatchable'

SimonTime

The two main things I'm interested in are emulators, and extracting game title keys, so I can decrypt games, and datamine them for getting their soundtrack, and finding unused content to add to The Cutting Room Floor!

And to cut to the chase: I don't want free games, I personally believe you should pay the asking price for work people put loads of effort into.

So the common belief that hacking is only used for piracy is not only accusatory, but factually incorrect.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend?

SimonTime

I'm playing Drone Fight on Switch.
It's by far the worst game I have ever played in my life, and if this somehow gets higher than a 1/10 Abysmal, I would be shocked.

It's like Vroom In The Night Sky, but much, much worse.
At least Vroom had decent controls, this is near-unplayable.

It's Superman 64 3, the trilogy nobody asked for.

Re: Hacker Praises Nintendo's Switch Security Efforts, But Says Console Is "Completely Compromised"

SimonTime

@HappyMaskedGuy I'm sorry, but being able to make your own games and applications without needing to buy an expensive dev kit is not equal to piracy.
The exploits were only ever searched for with homebrew, save backups, game backups and game modding in mind.
If someone uses it for piracy, it's their problem, they did the wrong thing, but the developers do not intend for it to be used as a piracy tool.
Although you're probably gonna pull the "enabling piracy" BS on me.
Which, I have a counter-argument for that too.
iTunes allowing DRM-free downloads enables music piracy, CD drives for computers enable music piracy.
There's a whole bunch of stuff that "enables" piracy, but it doesn't mean it needs to necessarily be used for that purpose.

Re: Soapbox: I'm Secretly Terrified Of An All-Digital Gaming Future

SimonTime

I personally do things a bit weirdly!

For music, I buy CDs, as I want versatile, lossless audio without all the hassle of streaming services and DRM etc.

For games, I almost exclusively buy them digitally, because there will be no difference in the files (except for the on-cart updates of course) between the cartridge and digital versions.

Also, CDs can be played on loads of devices, including your PC, while Switch cartridges can only be played on, well, the Switch!

Re: Review: Ace Of Seafood (Switch eShop)

SimonTime

@Shiryu Literally nothing.
I bought Vroom in the Night Sky day one!
A good name for that phenomenon would be the "AVGN-factor".
Essentially, if a game's bad, but entertainingly so, i'm gonna buy it!

Re: Review: Superola And The Lost Burgers (Switch eShop)

SimonTime

Now for the obligatory:
What was Nintendo on when they approved this?
Have they even learnt anything from the meme run fiasco?

Edit: Forgot the obligatory "I'm sorry you had to review this!"

I get Nintendo love to support independent developers, but this should have been left indie rubbish!

@JHDK - It appears so... even "Vroom in the Night Sky" and "Tennis" got a higher score!

Re: Review: Woodle Tree Adventures (Switch eShop)

SimonTime

I'd give the game a solid 7/10!

It's got a super cute art style, fun platforming mechanics, lots of cool stuff to collect and it's overall just a really fun experience!

The camera is a bit of a downside, the ability to move it up, down, left and right instead of a zoom would be nice, and in some cases, although pretty rare, the framerate drops below the 60fps target.

Also, I don't know what people are talking about! It may have been inspired by 3D Land, but the layout of the first level in Woodle Tree is very different to World 1-1 in Super Mario 3D Land!
