I was literally thinking yesterday what I would do in the GameCube AC game, where the date only goes to 2030. I guess find the year that's closest to 2031?
I think there's also a bit of a mix up in this article between accessibility and usability. Generally, accessibility is a part of game usability and would usually refer to ease of use to those that, either due to physical or cognitive handicaps, would struggle to play and get enjoyment from the game in any form.
I do appreciate the Nintendo Life addressing accessibility in articles like this, but I can't help but feel it slightly hypocritical when they say it can be hard to assess accessibility in games before you buy them, when one of the main reasons we read reviews and previews on this site before buying a game is to see how suitable a game would be to us to play.
I feel like if this is an issue Nintendo Life is serious about addressing then providing reviewers with at least the necessary information on how to assess accessibility in the games they are reviewing and to include that information in the review would be beneficial to not just those have accessibility issues, but would actually appreciated by all readers.
I was looking into buying Nintendo stock last year, but with there being a minimum 100 stock purchase (at least on Rakuten) I couldn't afford the over ¥4,000,000 minimum stock purchase. But if this goes down by 1/10 then I would seriously consider it again (after checking if it's actually a suitable time to invest our not in Nintendo).
Japan is notoriously behind when it comes to enforcement of workplace laws and encouragement of taking paid leave (most people don't even take all of their few paid days off). The technology sector has always been a bit further ahead it offering flexible solutions to working though. But I still feel this great offer will simple be disregarded by most eligible employees where they feel co-workers would look down on them for reducing hours and they will feel pressure to keep working full time in order to stay in the running for promotions etc.
Japan's government is having a big push recently on male employees taking their legally supported paid maternity leave (which is actually very generous) but I hope this supports people in making that transition back to working life with children easier.
I hope so, the bast majority of Nintendo developed games released in Japan have support for multiple languages. Splatoon 2 is the only one I have bought which could only be played in Japanese. A minor inconvenience when your Japanese is lower intermediate but still annoying when I just want to relax and play something in English. Massive respect to all of those people that have no choice than to play games in English if it's their 2nd (or higher) language.
Ironically, my module in assembly, I think it was called Computer System Architecture, was the only one I got a first in during my 3 years of Computer Science degree. (Spoiler alert: I got a 'PASS' rating and lost the honours). Love the article though, Kate. Thank you!
It was good fun, just wish I could have taken photos there. To be honest the highlights were the shop and I did enjoy the Mario Kart ride. But the vibe is really special (if it's not insanely crowded, which it is most the time).
Not sure if it’s worth replaying Mario 64 for the rumble. I actually own the Shindou Pak Taiou cartridge but not a Rumble Pak so never got to try the feature out, aha. Will probably still download the Japanese N64 app for Custom Robo etc in the future.
@EVIL-C just a heads up that the Japanese version of Splatoon 2 (at least the one I bought) only had Japanese language support, but if that doesn’t deter you then go ahead, my friend.
Interesting, we actually get MORE games than Japan for the N64, they don’t get Dr Mario 64 (as it was only ever released in North America apparently, my friend had it but he grew up in the US so that explains that). But Japan Also has 2 Custom Robo games coming in the future for sure.
I thought this stuff was already available? I’ve definitely seen the hand headphone holder in the game room section a few months ago in the Shibuya IKEA… Maybe it was out in Japan early though?
This may sounds sad, but as a child I would listen over and over to Porygon2’s cry in the Pokédex. It was the first thing that came to mind for me. https://youtu.be/4DEUNhB8oHc
Go Straight is an absolute banger to be sure. Happy to see it got a shout out. Also surprised I recognised that Sonic Spinball track after so long 😅 but for me I think Miror B’s Theme from Pokémon Colosseum is king but the XD Gale of Darkness Miror B theme is definitely more funky so I’ll list that https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ciEHtGpSviE
As I’m not really a Monster Hunter fan, and as the big Zelda and Mario games are remasters then Pokémon Snap is my current favourite game of the year (despite not completing it yet). Other shout outs go Famicom Detective Club: The Girl Who Stands Behind (also still not completed) and Ty The Tasmanian Tiger 2 (yes a remaster but at least I completed it.) I also 100% Super Mario 64 on the Super Mario 3D Collection and had a great time replaying that. It’s a shame that there’s a lack of first party AAA releases this year so far. Big hopes for Wario Ware and I may even try Metroid if reviews are good.
Not played New Horizons for a while but I’ll be back for Christmas as always for Animal Crossing games. I did have the urge last week to whip out the ol’ Animal Forest for N64 and had some fun looking at my weed ridden town. Man, I love that soundtrack.
Always happy reminiscing about one of my favourite games of all time, thank you, Kate! This chapter has always been one that stands out to me in this game (which, I guess is also most of them). But I am still torn about whether to wait out an official future rerelease or play a version with updated HD textures for a fresh experience, or just whip out my GameCube to kick it old school.
Just a heads up that the game is still available to buy on their Kickstarter for $25 US for all regions. I don’t know if that saves people money but it’s an option. https://ty2hd.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders/295329
When I went the longest queues were actually for the restaurant so I never got to try the food there... but the yakisoba koopa shell stand queue was shorter so I managed to try that and some of the special drinks they have. They were pretty good, not amazing taste wise but definitely looked awesome.
As annoying as it was having Netflix not pause until about a minute or 2 after pressing the button and it randomly crashing it was still my preferred way to watch Netflix as I could use the game pad to watch things on that and YouTube as I moved around getting ready in the morning. I transitioned over to mostly using my Chromecast now though so I guess it was the right decision but I still miss the multi screen.
It’s a fun game with friends at the arcade, I’ll check out this mode soon then! But I definitely do not think it would port well to the switch. I agree with others, Mario Kart 8 is vastly superior. I do enjoy that you can play as a sentient drum and also have a warped version of your face on your driver’s license though...
I’ve never played the original, but I’ve always meant to try and give it a go based on the big love from it’s fans.
I am mostly surprised in the trailer by the accuracy of how certain parts of Shibuya (and a bit of Harajuku) are represented. I also enjoy how one of the last scenes shows the Parco building where the Nintendo (and other gaming related) stores are.
Currently swapping between Animal Crossing: New Horizons prepping for Hallowe’en and doing the fishing tourney as well as playing through Phoenix Wright: Dual Destinies that I recently bought on 3DS. Been meaning to get around playing that for a while now.
I started saving my Pokémon boxes realising they could be worth something from around Fire Red/Emerald time so I have those and also save my brother’s Leaf Green and Emerald boxes. I hope they’re still somewhere safe in my mum’s house... aha. I’ve kept all my manuals I’ve ever had though so they’re probably in the attic somewhere.
I mean, I share my subscription with my friends on the family plan so I really only pay £4 a year which is really very little. I have very little to complain about.
I JUST completed the original one for the first time on NSO yesterday, so excellent timing. May have to wait a while to actually getting around to playing it though with all those Marios acoming.

6/15. Dates are not my strong point. I remembered a few so I doubt even being alive/playing games for earlier titles would have helped.
