@Don It's a turn-based RPG, the game tells you before your first battle that you don't aim your weapon. L is to pause, the command window at the bottom left is where you choose your attacks.
@Dm9982 EA's license is expiring soon if it hasn't expired already. LucasArts is back and they've confirmed Ubisoft is working on a new Star Wars game, and we'll likely hear about more projects in the near future. Between these recent ports, the KOTOR remake announcement, and EA losing its grip on the license, I'm hoping we'll be seeing a renaissance of Star Wars games this decade. I'm kind of sad I never really tried many of them outside of the Lego Star Wars games and a couple others back during the old golden age of the early 2000s, so I'd love to experience another era like that.
Just picked it up, waiting on the download now. This is one where I've played the first few hours of it on Steam, but I think having a portable version will make it a lot easier to commit, much like other games I've bought on Switch despite owning on other platforms.
I was going to hold off for a physical on KOTOR since I have the game digitally on Steam and the Steam Deck was set to come out soon, but with the delay, I'm tempted to just grab it on the eShop for some portable Star Wars... The thing is that I know they'll announce a physical release the day after I get it if I do cave in. I always like to go physical, but this one's super tempting...
EDIT: Yep, I got it. Hope my fellow collectors enjoy the inevitable physical announcement tomorrow.
Not really what I would have wanted the news to be when I saw a picture of Naruto on this website... I miss when new Naruto games were still coming out consistently.
Out of the games on the list, Breath of the Wild would be my favorite pick, but Half-Life 2 would be a very close second. Doom's another one I'd say is deserving of the award given the way it paved the way for an entire genre, but Half-Life 2 is pretty much the FPS formula perfected in my opinion. There are a pretty fair amount of genre-defining games here, though.
@Lilmonix3 If you have a North American account, I'm pretty sure you can download this and play it on your main account even if you aren't in North America as long as you're subscribed to NSO. I've never done it myself, but I know there are guides for how to get it all set up.
Also, while Neo was very well-received by fans and critics, as far as fans can tell, it flopped pretty hard from a sales perspective. Given how hard the fans and the original dev team had to fight to make Neo happen over a decade after the original released, a lot of us are assuming we probably won't see anything else come out of the series now.
Anyone who's even slightly interested, please give this a shot. It's a fantastic game, and the Switch version really isn't as bad as a lot of people make it out to be. I'd say the DS version controls better, but I still had a blast playing it docked on my Switch, and everyone else I know who played the remaster enjoyed it as well. This is a series that deserves way more respect and attention than Square gives it, and hopefully this free trial gives it the boost it needs to reach a bigger audience.
I'll be playing more of the Animal Crossing update. I dropped the game pretty quickly after it came out (which made me sad as I loved New Leaf and didn't think New Horizons lived up to it), so I need to make more progress before I can access the new content, but I'm hoping that process won't take too long. I also started up Final Fantasy XII on the Switch recently, which is a game I despised as a teenager but I find myself enjoying now. I'll definitely get more of that in this weekend. I might try to squeeze in a level or two of Quake as well since I'm on episode 4 now and it's been a little while since I last played. Shouldn't take me too much longer to finish it!
Outside of the Switch, I started the original Silent Hill a week or so ago and I definitely want to keep going with that. I just finished the hospital, not sure how far in that'd put me overall. It's been a great survival horror game so far, I wish I hadn't put it off so long! I'll likely try to get in some more Dead by Daylight on Steam as well since I got back into that game with the recent Halloween event.
I don't get the aversion to a live action Metroid film... Metroid was heavily influenced by two fantastic live action sci-fi movies, I'd honestly prefer a live action Metroid in the same spirit as Alien/Aliens over an animated movie personally. Of course, you'd also need someone who respects the source material for it to be good, but it's not like it being animated automatically means you get a higher chance of having a Metroid fan in charge.
I've heard Instant Gaming is a very unreliable source that makes listings for any rumored game, so I don't personally trust this as a sign of anything to come. That being said, the Nvidia leak's been pretty spot-on, so I do think this is coming soon.
@Bl4ckb100d That would be a full remake, while the title here says it's only a remaster. It'll probably just be like Square's other recent remasters (Legend of Mana might be a good example). Polish the visuals, maybe redo the music, fix a few things and add some QoL features, but it'll mostly just be the same game.
I don't really get why Nintendo Stores are so few and far between. I'm no business expert, but I'd imagine it would help their brand to open more stores around the world. I'm in the US, but I'm nowhere near New York. I'd love to see one open up in my state one day, it seems like a cool place to check out.
My brother and I will be splitting the Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl double-pack, and I'll be picking up the Zelda Game & Watch when that releases as well. Those are my two definite releases I plan to get these next two months, though there are a few others I'd like to get when I'm able to. The two Star Wars dual-packs, the retro Disney bundle, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, and Astria Ascending are all releases I'm keeping an eye on.
@Mando44646 Smash 4's final character presentation announced the amiibo for the two characters who had just been revealed. It would be odd for Sakurai to say "These fighters will get amiibo as well" and leave out just Sora since they were informal announcements rather than the usual full amiibo reveal. It's not confirmed, but it looks unlikely.
@Chris77 The other amiibo announcements in the final presentation didn't show the final amiibo designs, they just used their Smash renders. I'm hoping they just didn't have the deal finalized or something, but his absence in Sakurai's amiibo announcement has me concerned.
@Chris77 It hasn't been outright confirmed he's not getting one, but at the end of Sora's reveal presentation, Sakurai showed all the remaining Smash characters getting amiibo in the future and it was everyone but Sora. There wasn't any reason for Sora to not be included in that list (Corrin and Bayonetta were both confirmed to be getting amiibo in the same presentation in which they were revealed for Smash 4 if I remember correctly), so a lot of people are thinking he probably won't get one. I'd love to be wrong, but I'm thinking it probably won't happen.
@Zyph The keychain is Mickey Mouse's face. Disney's definitely trademarked that. And it's true that the others would need permission as well, but given that it seems Sora is the only fighter not getting an amiibo, I'd imagine Disney is the main issue here.
Being 100% honest, I wouldn't be surprised if Sora is the only reason Nintendo hasn't mentioned selling this yet. His keychain is clearly visible, and something tells me Disney doesn't want anything with The Mouse's iconic silhouette being sold unless they get a big cut of the profits...
@Ocaz Part of it is that when (not "if," when) the servers go down, then yes, two of the games will be unavailable, invalidating the physical cart someone bought. It's a matter of preservation, many collectors want everything on the cart. It's also an extra hassle that defeats the purpose of putting it out physically, and if someone with slow/no internet connection happens to get it as a gift, they're out of luck. Rockstar has no excuse given that they could easily afford 32GB carts and I doubt this won't be anything other than a smashing success given the demand for GTA on Switch. I'm not into GTA, but as a collector, I'm pretty tired of this practice and I sympathize with the GTA fans who are understandably upset about this decision.
Smash Bros. is dead! I can't believe they've added the worst character imaginable, the one I've wanted to have nothing to do with the series from the start... Who asked for Mario in this game?! I'm never buying a Nintendo game again, thanks Sakurai. We have enough people who punch in this game as it is, we don't need any more.
@Marioracer If a single character is enough to ruin the game for you, maybe you should just stick to the older games. I don't like Sonic, Bayonetta, Joker, or Steve, but that still leaves 85 other characters for me to enjoy. The roster is so massive at this point that I can't imagine how just one character can ruin the whole game.
I got both passes since it bugs me to not have the full roster in a Smash game. Each pass only had one fighter I didn't like (Joker for FP1, Steve for FP2), so I would've paid the same amount for all the individual characters, anyway. Outside of those two characters, I've been pretty happy with the DLC! Dragon Quest XI's Luminary was my most-wanted DLC character, so he obviously became my new main once he was released, and then the spot was taken once again when Mythra released. Banjo and Sephiroth were both highlights as well, and while I didn't really want Sora before, I was pleasantly surprised by how fun he looks and by how much love for the original Kingdom Hearts (by far my favorite in the series) is present in the DLC pack as a whole, so I'm pretty excited for him now.
I've bought a few Mii costumes. Off the top of my head, I got all the Dragon Quest ones, all the Final Fantasy ones, Nakoruru, Cuphead, and I'll get Doomguy when he's available. I don't use them often, but they're fun to have.
@JJtheTexan Was Xenomorph intentional on your part, or is it another hilarious typo in response to a hilarious typo? Now I'm wondering how deep this can go.
@Cheez I think it's pretty obvious this is just a hilarious typo, not clickbait. The real game's title is Xenoverse 2, but given that this is a Nintendo site, it's understandable someone would mix it up with a similarly-named first-party game.
On the Switch, I got back to Quake, so I'll be playing more of that. I'm glad they finally fixed the music bug, it's like a completely different experience now! I just finished episode 2 in my last session, so I'm about halfway through as far as I can tell. I'm returning to New Horizons to prepare for the new update as well since it seems to fix a fair amount of the problems I had with the game at launch. I haven't touched it in a year, so I've got to remember what I wanted to do with my island and prepare space for the new crops and things like that.
Outside of the Switch, I really need to get back to Xenosaga Episode I. I'm pretty sure I'm coming up on the end of the game, so I want to get it out of the way. I want to start on Silent Hill as well, and Silent Hill 2 after that. I've only played a little bit of the first game, so I'm excited to jump into that series! Dragon Ball Z Kakarot on PS5 is another one I'll probably play for at least a little bit.
I think this was a step in the right direction, and it's enough to make me want to fire the game back up. That being said, I'm disappointed this is the last major free update because there are still plenty of things I'd like to see added (more diversity in villager dialogue, actual multiplayer content, more returning old characters, etc.). It looks more appealing overall now, but still not as much as New Leaf is.
@VoidofLight Sandbox decorating game is probably more like the term I was looking for, town builder's just what came to mind. I see the appeal in making a town that looks really nice, but New Horizons just felt lacking in every other way to me, and I'm not as into the decorating aspects. I just wanted more variety in what I could do, and unfortunately, NH felt like a big step back from the previous games in that regard.
I mainly just want more life. New Horizons is probably the biggest Nintendo disappointment I've ever experienced personally, I dropped out before even getting KK Slider to show up because the whole game felt like a tedious slog. I loved City Folk and New Leaf and wanted a bigger life sim to enjoy at my own pace, but now all of those cozy life sim elements have been replaced with a grindy town builder. It's cool for people who enjoy town builders, but that's not what Animal Crossing has been about, at least not to the degree in NH. I'm fine with having it there as long as there's more to do outside of that, but it just feels barren otherwise. I really want a reason to return to the game, and ultimately, breathing life into it is the main thing it needs.
That being said, more multiplayer options and shops would be my next two requests. The lack of anything really fun to do in multiplayer doesn't help with NH feeling empty outside of crafting and designing your island, especially after how much New Leaf offered. I miss having a bunch of shops with special NPCs to visit as well.
@Anti-Matter If you want the EXP Share on, having it be present but with the ability to turn it off if you want wouldn't affect you in the slightest. You could choose to keep it on and those of us who don't want it can turn it off. I don't see any possible way that it's better for anyone if it's forcibly left on as opposed to giving people the option.
Just to note, I'm one of the people who enjoys the new Pokemon games and is very much looking forward to these games, but I'm not a fan of how the EXP Share has changed over time.
Metroid Dread, same as most other people here. I'm not one of the people playing it on the Switch OLED as I have to pass on it for now (not enough money + other priorities), but I hope the people who are playing it that way are enjoying it! I hope to join the OLED ranks eventually, but the Steam Deck calls out to me first.
If I play anything else this weekend, Xenosaga would be a likely choice. I think I'm getting close to the end of Episode I, and I'll probably do Xenogears after that before moving on to the other two entries in the XS trilogy. Maybe I'll also finally get back to A Link to the Past this weekend, too.
I'm really excited to see more of this game! I love Kirby, so I can't wait to try out his first full 3D adventure. There are a lot of great Switch exclusives on the horizon, I'm really excited for everything that's in store!
Still no music fix on Switch? I've been holding off on playing it in the hopes they'd fix that soon. I was really enjoying the game, but it was weird playing it when most chapters had inaudible or super quiet music.
I'll get them when they come to Steam and play them on the Steam Deck. I have them all on PS4 (and PS3, and just about all of the original releases as well...), and I've honestly fallen out of love with the series as a whole in recent years, but the first game is still very near and dear to me and the idea of playing it on a handheld system seems like a dream. Too bad I won't be able to do it properly on the Switch. I have no interest in cloud games whatsoever personally.
My most-wanted character who hasn't been ruled out by other characters from this pass would be Gordon Freeman, although I know he has no chance of getting in. Crash, Claire/Leon, Doomguy, Impa, Rayman, Bandana Dee, and the Elite Beat Agents/Ouendan cheerleaders would all be great picks, too. Elma (Xenoblade X), Terra (Final Fantasy VI), and Neku (The World Ends With You) are my top 3, but between Pyra/Mythra and Sephiroth, they aren't happening.
@Dragonslacker1 I've personally switched mains twice since the game released: once for Hero, and then again for Mythra. If someone's favorite character gets added, odds are they'll pick up that character. Of course, there's also nothing saying you can't enjoy playing as multiple characters. I still like to play as Hero, Zelda, Cloud, and plenty of others. Smash is a celebration of video game history, so a lot of people have attachments to many playable characters in the game.
It's clearly Waluigi, Sakurai went back in time and made the Sonic artists put that in the game to tease that Waluigi and Sonic would eventually fight each other in Smash Bros!
I don't see Mario in it at all. I don't understand how anyone jumps to that conclusion personally.
@Spider-Kev Your definition of a reboot states that it's still a new movie based on an old one. The new movie has nothing to do with the original at all aside from being based off of the same games. There aren't any connections between the live action movie and this new animated movie, so it's not a reboot. That's like saying Mario Kart is a reboot of Super Mario Bros. because both use characters from the original Mario Bros.
It does look a bit unpolished, but pretty solid overall. Hopefully they listen to feedback and adjust some of the criticisms, but I think it's shaping up pretty well personally. I really can't wait for it!
@Silly_G I'd imagine a few really popular releases might get physical releases, probably through companies like Limited Run Games, but I doubt the vast majority of their games will even be available outside of Netflix's game service unfortunately. My concerns come more from the possibility of them snatching up a really talented team and then locking all of their future games to Netflix.
Does Dusk '82 come with LRG's physical copy as well? It's a cool bonus to include, but I'd prefer to stick with the physical release, so I'd only be getting it if it's thrown in there too.
Can't say I'm super thrilled as I imagine they'll want their studios' games to be exclusive to their streaming platform, meaning they likely won't be available to buy in any form unless it's something huge. That's how they threat their exclusives; no Blu-Ray releases outside of a few super popular ones, and it bothers me as I vastly prefer physical media to streaming. Video game streaming services are things I have no interest in, so any games that wind up exclusive to them won't be on my radar. I hope Oxenfree 2 will still be fine since it's already been announced for other platforms, but any future releases are ones I doubt will be available to play anywhere other than Netflix.
I saw this one's getting a physical release, which I'd love to pick up! That being said, October's pretty packed and the D/P remakes are coming a month after, so I might hold off a little bit on this one. It's definitely on my radar, though!
Ah yes, because Konami always listens to fan feedback. That's why the entirety of series such as Silent Hill and Metal Gear are playable on modern systems! Wait a minute...
Chocobo GP and Kirby and the Forgotten Land were my two favorite reveals, but there were plenty of others I'm also excited for. N64 on NSO, KOTOR, Splatoon 3, Castlevania, ActRaiser, Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak, Triangle Strategy, Age of Calamity DLC, and Mario Party all look like they'll be fun! Of course, Metroid Dread looks fantastic too, but since it's just a couple weeks away, I wouldn't have minded if it wasn't here. Overall, I've got a ton to look forward to! The final Smash presentation's exciting as well.
@nhSnork Chocobo GP actually isn't the first Final Fantasy kart racer. It's a sequel to Chocobo Racing on the PS1. There was going to be a 3DS sequel at one point too, but it was unfortunately canceled. I'm personally very happy to see that it's back!
@BlueOcean I'd be shocked to see Nintendo characters show up on Xbox, but I'd definitely like to see it get a sequel or at least just show up on NSO. It's one I've never played since I skipped the N64 growing up, but I've always heard great things about it! I'm happy that Microsoft seems to be cooperating with Nintendo here and I really hope we see more of Rare's games make their way back to Switch.
@HeadPirate Martinet is still voicing background characters though. Having at least him reprise his role for Mario and Luigi instead of some nobodies would make people feel more confident in this movie. I've always hated how much animated films have moved towards just getting popular faces to voice characters as opposed to professional voice actors, but this whole situation just feels like a particularly awful case of that issue. Half of these casting decisions feel like the exaggerated jokes people were throwing around back when the movie was first announced.

Re: Bandai Namco Shows Off Dragon Ball Xenoblade 2's Next DLC Character
@JJtheTexan Was Xenomorph intentional on your part, or is it another hilarious typo in response to a hilarious typo? Now I'm wondering how deep this can go.
Re: Bandai Namco Shows Off Dragon Ball Xenoblade 2's Next DLC Character
@Cheez I think it's pretty obvious this is just a hilarious typo, not clickbait. The real game's title is Xenoverse 2, but given that this is a Nintendo site, it's understandable someone would mix it up with a similarly-named first-party game.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (October 16th)
Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons: Everything Coming In The Final Free Update
I think this was a step in the right direction, and it's enough to make me want to fire the game back up. That being said, I'm disappointed this is the last major free update because there are still plenty of things I'd like to see added (more diversity in villager dialogue, actual multiplayer content, more returning old characters, etc.). It looks more appealing overall now, but still not as much as New Leaf is.
Re: Talking Point: What Would You Like To See From The Animal Crossing Direct?
@VoidofLight Sandbox decorating game is probably more like the term I was looking for, town builder's just what came to mind. I see the appeal in making a town that looks really nice, but New Horizons just felt lacking in every other way to me, and I'm not as into the decorating aspects. I just wanted more variety in what I could do, and unfortunately, NH felt like a big step back from the previous games in that regard.
Re: Talking Point: What Would You Like To See From The Animal Crossing Direct?
Re: Exp. Share Can't Be Turned Off In The Pokémon Diamond And Pearl Remakes
Re: Quake On Switch Now Supports Mouse And Keyboard Controls
@Specter_of-the_OLED It already has gyro.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (October 9th)
Re: Here's Your First Look At The Switch Box Art For Kirby And The Forgotten Land
I'm really excited to see more of this game! I love Kirby, so I can't wait to try out his first full 3D adventure. There are a lot of great Switch exclusives on the horizon, I'm really excited for everything that's in store!
Re: Quake Receives Its "First Major Update" For Nintendo Switch
@RogueSpyke Thanks for the confirmation! Guess I'll be getting back to Quake when I'm not busy with Metroid Dread.
Re: Quake Receives Its "First Major Update" For Nintendo Switch
Still no music fix on Switch? I've been holding off on playing it in the hopes they'd fix that soon. I was really enjoying the game, but it was weird playing it when most chapters had inaudible or super quiet music.
Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting The "Cloud Versions" Of Kingdom Hearts On Switch?
I'll get them when they come to Steam and play them on the Steam Deck. I have them all on PS4 (and PS3, and just about all of the original releases as well...), and I've honestly fallen out of love with the series as a whole in recent years, but the first game is still very near and dear to me and the idea of playing it on a handheld system seems like a dream. Too bad I won't be able to do it properly on the Switch. I have no interest in cloud games whatsoever personally.
Re: Feature: So, Who Will Be The Final Fighter In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate?
Re: Random: Wait A Sec, That Sure Looks Like Mario In Sonic The Hedgehog's Marble Zone
It's clearly Waluigi, Sakurai went back in time and made the Sonic artists put that in the game to tease that Waluigi and Sonic would eventually fight each other in Smash Bros!
I don't see Mario in it at all. I don't understand how anyone jumps to that conclusion personally.
Re: Former Mario Movie Star John Leguizamo Isn't Happy With The Casting On The New Film
Re: Video: Here's Another Look At Square Enix's New Racing Game Chocobo GP
It does look a bit unpolished, but pretty solid overall. Hopefully they listen to feedback and adjust some of the criticisms, but I think it's shaping up pretty well personally. I really can't wait for it!
Re: Streaming Giant Netflix Acquires Its First Video Game Developer
@Silly_G I'd imagine a few really popular releases might get physical releases, probably through companies like Limited Run Games, but I doubt the vast majority of their games will even be available outside of Netflix's game service unfortunately. My concerns come more from the possibility of them snatching up a really talented team and then locking all of their future games to Netflix.
Re: The Horrifying '90s-Style FPS Dusk Launches On Switch This Halloween
Does Dusk '82 come with LRG's physical copy as well? It's a cool bonus to include, but I'd prefer to stick with the physical release, so I'd only be getting it if it's thrown in there too.
Re: Streaming Giant Netflix Acquires Its First Video Game Developer
Re: Switch Pre-Orders For Pokémon-Like 'Monster Crown' Go Live Today, October Launch Confirmed
I saw this one's getting a physical release, which I'd love to pick up! That being said, October's pretty packed and the D/P remakes are coming a month after, so I might hold off a little bit on this one. It's definitely on my radar, though!
Re: Want A New Castlevania Game? You Need To Make Yourself Heard, Says Konami Director
Ah yes, because Konami always listens to fan feedback. That's why the entirety of series such as Silent Hill and Metal Gear are playable on modern systems! Wait a minute...
Re: Banjo-Kazooie Is 'Coming Home' To A Nintendo Console Via Switch Online
@BlueOcean It's definitely on my list of N64 games to track down! It'd be cool to see it come to this service eventually too, of course.
Re: Round Up: Here's Everything That Was Revealed In Nintendo Direct September 2021
Re: Banjo-Kazooie Is 'Coming Home' To A Nintendo Console Via Switch Online
@BlueOcean I'd be shocked to see Nintendo characters show up on Xbox, but I'd definitely like to see it get a sequel or at least just show up on NSO. It's one I've never played since I skipped the N64 growing up, but I've always heard great things about it! I'm happy that Microsoft seems to be cooperating with Nintendo here and I really hope we see more of Rare's games make their way back to Switch.
Re: The Super Mario Movie's Release Date And Cast Are Revealed
@HeadPirate Martinet is still voicing background characters though. Having at least him reprise his role for Mario and Luigi instead of some nobodies would make people feel more confident in this movie. I've always hated how much animated films have moved towards just getting popular faces to voice characters as opposed to professional voice actors, but this whole situation just feels like a particularly awful case of that issue. Half of these casting decisions feel like the exaggerated jokes people were throwing around back when the movie was first announced.
