Recently Nintendo of Europe confirmed that Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town is the next game trial heading to the region for Switch Online subscribers. Nintendo of America has now joined in and, arguably, is offering the better promotion this time around.
In North America Switch Online subscribers will be able to play the full version of The World Ends With You: Final Remix, with the trial available from 10th November to 16/17th November depending on time zone. In an extra bonus both that game and its sequel, the excellent NEO: The World Ends With You, will be 30% off on the eShop until 19/20th November.
If you're really determined you could get through the first game (which was great on the DS originally but is also pretty decent in the Switch port) as part of your subscription, then get stuck into this year's follow-up release at a discount.
Let us know what you think - do you plan to give this trial a whirl?

now everyone can experience arthritis
Guess I have to try it. 😂
Hopefully it’s as good as people say it is.
My favorites DS Game ever ! ^^
"Final Remix" is great because it takes a lot of the unanswered questions from the core game and laughs at us for expecting answers, then piles on a bunch more questions.
Now that sounds sarcastic, but really, if you're played TWEWY and enjoyed it so much you bought a remake, you are clearly into that sort of thing!
The ONLY flaw is that it could have really used more Tin Pin.
@Dragwhite count me IN.
Got to try it now, Fine. I mean, how GOOD can it be?
If I add the account I set up for the American eshop to my family online membership, will that allow my to download it to my UK switch?
I’ll definitely pick it up digitally at that price.
Nice - they've discounted neo before but not remix, so I might jump on that.
As much as I love this game and how important it was for me as a teenager, this Switch version is unfortunately the worst way to play it. If you can get the original on a DS or 3DS that would even the best experience, or playing in Handheld mode on Switch. It's a shame more care wasn't taken in porting to Switch but the scope of doing so may have been closer to a remake than a port.
@LexKitteh You forgot the mobile version as well since everyone already has one of those.
Already have the Android version so I'll pass. Definitely a fun game though, always loved the art style.
AWWWWW YEAH BABY I GET TO FORCE MY FRIENDS TO PLAY TWEWY LETS GOOOOOOO
After finishing NEO:TWEWY, I was really tempted to pick up the remake. I decided not to since I still own the original and heard that the remake's controls are really iffy.... but now that I can try it for free and get it on sale if I like it, I'm definitely going to reassess
Definitely going to get NEO before it goes off sale.
If you have a stylus you use on like an iPad or something, use it here. This game with touch controls is incredible (with button controls...ooof)
But it's super worth it. Unexpectedly profound story in a world that's like Kingdom Hearts with Jet Set Radio vibes (and also I kinda think the core mechanic of the story is gonna be a key to KH with the way 3 ended)
Too bad the sequel flopped. I mean the original was great for its time but its been so long already and after touch games and all that its not as excited as it was at its prime
Anyone who's even slightly interested, please give this a shot. It's a fantastic game, and the Switch version really isn't as bad as a lot of people make it out to be. I'd say the DS version controls better, but I still had a blast playing it docked on my Switch, and everyone else I know who played the remaster enjoyed it as well. This is a series that deserves way more respect and attention than Square gives it, and hopefully this free trial gives it the boost it needs to reach a bigger audience.
@Lilmonix3 If you have a North American account, I'm pretty sure you can download this and play it on your main account even if you aren't in North America as long as you're subscribed to NSO. I've never done it myself, but I know there are guides for how to get it all set up.
Also, while Neo was very well-received by fans and critics, as far as fans can tell, it flopped pretty hard from a sales perspective. Given how hard the fans and the original dev team had to fight to make Neo happen over a decade after the original released, a lot of us are assuming we probably won't see anything else come out of the series now.
I urge anyone who hasn't tried TWEWY out already to take advantage of this trial if possible. It's such a unique game that has a special place in my heart. I recommend playing the game handheld and grabbing a stylus to make the experience more comfy. It's not a game for everyone due to it's distinctive combat system and the way the story is structured but when it clicks? It clicks. You'll have a blast.
@Lilmonix3 Neo: The World Ends with You received "generally favorable" reviews but it sold less than 30k physical first week in Japan (PS4+Switch). Thats not good cause Squarenix tried to market the game with anime etc. I think they tried to give it some Persona vibes. Maybe it will sell in the long run. First one wasn't a smash hit but got great reviews and is on all time DS titles
@HeadPirate - I hate how accurate this is.
Only thing more confusing than this story is anything KH does. Which also includes the community of KH.
When you name you're game
"The World Ends With You: Final Remix Soon (North America)"
that's peak Square Enix right there. 😂
@dimi Thing is, TWEWY sold much better in the West than in Japan itself. Also, it might be a case where it was released at a very busy time. Most had to choose between Neo TWEWY and The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles. (Also, the fact that Neo TWEWY is locked behind the Epic Store on Windows doesn't help.)
I can see this biting them in the ass like with ARMS. When NSO members were allowed to play that game for a week for free, it convinced me that that game is shallow and not worth buying for the heinous price Nintendo charges. I've been on the fence about buying TWEWY for so long, specifically because I've heard people say the DS version controls better. This will give me the opportunity to try the controls for myself before I buy the game, and if I hate the controls, then the story better grip me by the end of the week, or this free trial will have the exact opposite effect of what was intended.
@KayFiOS Just a heads up, the main character is kind of an ***** at first. He does get better though. He basically goes from "I don't need friends" to "Friends are nice. I like having them"
Would also be good idea to order a decent stylus for it as well.
The original TWEWY on DS is one of my favorite games, one of those rare gems that hits every note for me. The story/setting also is quite original, this combined with the internal struggles the characters go through makes it very memorable.
@NatiaAdamo I never saw him like that, I just saw someone who was more of a loner and had some bad experiences.
The Switch version is still very good, even if the DS original is still better because of the multi-tasking battle system. Playing docked with the joycons on Switch actually is the closest thing to the original you can get. The only annoyance is the constant re-centering of the cursor but I can live with that.
Currently playing Neo (a bit late to the party) and really enjoying it a lot, didn't expect it to be this good actually.
Finally something worthwhile for the NSO trials. Last time I used it was for Fuser which was like 6 months ago I think.
It should be permanently free. A 3 year old port of a 15 year old handheld game that was also released on mobile phones still got base price of 49,99 € . Even the new game is cheaper!
I have been interested in this game, but never bought it. I am concerned the controls will make it unplayable. But for free I will give it a go. Already downloaded.
