I played Heroes for a few years after launch, though I stopped when it felt too repetitive and too focused on paying more if I wanted to make more progress and get all the units I wanted. It was the first and last gacha game I really got into, and I personally don't plan to get into more. That being said, if the money from this goes towards funding more great main series FE games on the Switch, then this is good news!
@Sdelintwouters They usually do smaller events like this between major events. That being said, I don't think these smaller ones usually require going out to places to get the Pokemon, so this is a weird one to require a trip to GameStop.
This looks good, but I'm not really seeing the RE inspiration here outside of just exploring a mansion. It looks more reminiscent of Castlevania to me with its style and character design. I might check it out still though, it looks solid for what it is regardless of comparisons!
More Pokemon Legends Arceus! I think I'm coming up on the end of the story, I took down the fifth noble and I've moved the plot on a bit since then. I'm still having a blast with the game! I managed to find a shiny Tentacruel, so that was a fun surprise.
Outside of the Switch, with Kirby and the Forgotten Land coming soon, I decided I really should get around to playing the other main series Kirby games I have yet to finish. I started Kirby's Dream Land 3 via the Wii's Dream Collection and finished the second world last night. It's fun, but it feels like a big step back from Super Star. I'd like to get back to .hack//Infection on my PS2 as well. Maybe some Old School RuneScape, but I kinda burned out after the first few days of Leagues III, so I might take a bit more of a break. Don't want to wait too long since the event's timed, though.
@Kirby_Girl Thanks for the links! The anniversary plush look amazing! It'd certainly be nice to see articles on merchandise for series like Kirby. I love Pokemon, Zelda, and all those other franchises, but the smaller ones deserve attention as well.
@Kirby_Girl If you don't mind me asking, where did you pre-order from? I've been wanting to look at merchandise but haven't really been sure where to look.
Yes, this is certainly a better way of preserving these games than actually, you know... re-releasing them on modern platforms. Konami always manages to get worse and worse...
@Troll_Decimator While I certainly think this game will be one of the most successful entries in the series, I doubt it'll be the #1 best selling, especially with only a single version. The other main series entry have the additional benefit of having two games essentially lumped into one for their sales numbers. I'm sure it'll break the top 5, but #1 would be a tough battle to win.
This is definitely just a generic "We're paying attention and we knew you'd ask about this so we'll say something non-committal to shut up the investors" answer, not any sort of statement they'll be getting into NFTs. I feel like this article headline is really misleading and it's going to lead to a ton of misinformation going around...
@masterLEON Monolith has a separate team dedicated to support on projects like BOTW2. Off the top of my head, I think they have three or four teams actively working on projects right now, so BOTW2 won't interfere with a new Xenoblade game's development. If I remember correctly, BOTW impacted the development of Xenoblade 2 and they didn't want that to happen again.
It's about time for Monolith to show something off and Yasunori Mitsuda (a frequent composer for the Xeno series) said his next project will probably be revealed this month. While I don't believe all the rumors from supposed insiders going around about the next Xenoblade, I do think we'll see Xenoblade 3 very soon, probably this month.
This looks fantastic! It's cool to see Yacht Club branch out into new territory, and everything about this project just looks like it mixes together a lot of things I love into one slick game. I wish the physical copy wasn't so expensive in the Kickstarter, but they'll hopefully do a retail release like they did with Shovel Knight. I'm definitely looking forward to Mina!
@GrailUK That's my issue with all these Unreal Engine fan remakes, they lose the unique style and charm of the source material in favor of just looking like the typical big-budget UE game. This demo might be visually impressive, but it just looks like a generic fantasy game. You could replace Link with just a generic fantasy hero and you'd never guess the environments were meant to look like Zelda. Nintendo games have a very special charm to their art that's never even attempted to be replicated in these types of projects, and I don't get why people insist these look better than the official projects. More graphical power doesn't automatically mean better if it just winds up looking like every other game on the market.
I don't mind acquisitions when it's between studios that have established a very close relationship (Sony and Insomniac or Housemarque) or a major studio seeing a promising smaller one and acquiring it to give them the resources necessary to flourish (Nintendo and Monolith Soft). Microsoft and Sony are just tossing money around trying to compete to see who can get the more impressive lineup now, though. It's honestly ridiculous. None of these major third party studios need to be acquired, nor does Nintendo need to fire back by going after another major studio. Nintendo has a sound strategy for acquisitions and I'd prefer for them to stick to smaller studios they've established a strong partnership with like Monolith, Retro, or Next Level Games. I hope that this dumb acquisition war between Sony and MS comes to an end soon as well.
As much as I love the original FFVII, I can't say the same for the whole compilation that came after. I remember liking Crisis Core back in the day, but everything else just feels so far off from what made the original so good. The remake was a huge mixed bag for me overall with some aspects being really good and others being infuriating. I'll probably keep an eye on the anniversary celebrations, but I'm not really expecting anything that appeals to me personally. Hopefully we'll get something cool though!
I'm kind of tired of any conversation about this game being dominated by people complaining about the title. Yes, it sounds weird. That was established forever ago. Now how about looking at how fun the combat looks and how interesting the plot seems? It's sad to see that the title seems to be the only thing people are talking about with this game.
Ocean's Heart looks cool, but I'm not dying to get it right away. There aren't any games I'm planning to get in February, though it'll be a good time to set money aside for a Steam Deck and March's huge lineup of games that interest me.
Like most people, I'll be playing a lot of Pokemon Legends: Arceus. I'm probably 4.5 hours in at the moment and I'm having a lot of fun! While I have enjoyed all of the previous main series entries, it does still feel refreshing to get such a big change of pace with this one.
Outside of the Switch, I finished Silent Hill 2 (which is a fantastic game!), so my PS2 focus has shifted to .hack//Infection in the hopes of getting through as much of that series before the GU remasters come to Switch in March. It's a very unique game, and I can see why a lot of people say it hasn't aged well, but I'm having fun with it so far. Also, I'll definitely get in more OldSchool RuneScape as Leagues III rages on. I also picked up Kirby's Blowout Blast on the 3DS eShop, I'll probably spend at least a little time working on the EX levels since I've already finished the main game.
They can take their time to make this the most groovy game it can be as far as I'm concerned, I'll still be there once it's out. The footage so far looks great, so I can't wait for the full game!
On the Switch, I've been meaning to get back to Skyward Sword HD. I took a short break from it, but I was really enjoying it and do intend to return soon. I'd guess I'm around halfway through by now.
Outside of the Switch, Silent Hill 2's been going very well! It's an incredibly terrifying game that holds up very well. I enjoyed the first game, but 2 is on a completely different level. I'm really excited to see where it goes next. I'm also back to my whole "start Old School RuneScape back up for nostalgia's sake" phase I tend to get every year or two, so there'll be more of that as the Shattered Relics league goes on. The biggest game I'm playing right now is the waiting game; next Friday's going to be a lot of fun with the release of Pokemon!
@nessisonett While I'd like to see more main series characters join the roster, I do think it's worth noting this game seems to be drawing more from the Chocobo spin-off games rather than the series as a whole. Steiner, Vivi, Terra, and Gilgamesh all fit with the style really well, but I think the intention is mainly to tie into the other Chocobo games. I'd absolutely love to see characters like Cecil, Rydia, Celes, and Cloud join in, though.
@Erigen It's not only FFIX characters. Terra from FFVI is confirmed, and while he's been in multiple entries, Gilgamesh has a stage tying into his original game, FFV. There could be secret characters from other main series entries as well.
It's almost comical how much worse Kotick looks every time he comes up in the news. Like this is all the sort of thing you'd expect from an over-the-top movie villain or something... except it's all real and actually happening. How much deeper can he dig his own grave? I really hope Microsoft kicks him out once the acquisition's complete, it's absolutely insane that someone as horrible as him has any semblance of power.
And nothing of value would be lost. While I have mixed feelings about the acquisition as a whole, if Microsoft kicks Kotick out and works hard on fixing Activision Blizzard's many issues, it'll be worth it for the sake of the employees stuck dealing in such a horrible environment.
Isn't this the guy who was selling NFTs that were pictures of his Pokemon cards for thousands of dollars? Seems hypocritical for him to complain about being scammed. That's ignoring his... many other controversies, too.
Figures this comes along a couple weeks after I finish the game... it wasn't a huge deal, but it was something that got a bit distracting in battles. Good to hear they're finally fixing it at least, hopefully it'll be included on LRG's physical release.
@EarthboundBenjy Yep, and Terra from FFVI is also in. I don't think any other mainline FF heroes have been confirmed yet, but I hope they're saving some surprises. I'd love to see Celes, personally.
@Not_Soos Marx isn't really new since he's been around since Super Star on the SNES, but otherwise, I do agree he'd be great to see! I'd pick up a Galacta Knight amiibo too, still need to play Return to Dreamland so I can't speak for Magolor just yet. I think the bosses could be interesting as well!
I'd definitely like to see Nintendo branch out more with amiibo, I'm sad they've slowed down a lot on non-Smash amiibo ever since the Animal Crossing line flopped. I'd love to see more Zelda amiibo, although Xenoblade would be my top pick for a series getting more. It has a ton of great characters, it's a shame that it'll probably only get the three for Smash. I also missed out on Pearl and Marina and would love to see a restock for Splatoon 3, they're the only Splatoon amiibo I missed excluding the Splatoon 1 recolors.
@nessisonett You're right, can't have one without the other. I think a line of philosophy amiibo would really help revive the toys to life genre personally.
I'd love to see some new amiibo for some of the one-off Kirby characters. Marx and Susie in particular come to mind, but there are a lot of options to choose from.
While I'm perfectly happy with my Switch copy, it's good to hear the PC port's solid! Hopefully this helps get more people into this fantastic game. It's good to see some studios doing PC ports the right way given how the subject's always a mixed bag.
@Grail_Quest I'll look into The New Nightmare then! I was worried the older ones might be a little difficult to get into now, but I had the same concern with Silent Hill 1 and that turned out fine, so I might try the original games out too. It looks like they're actually all on Steam, which makes finding them a lot easier! I think they'd be fun to at least try since I like going back and looking at the roots of series/genres I like. I've heard the PS3-era reboot was pretty bad, so I planned to pass on that either way, didn't know there were more than one though. And I always play horror games with the lights out, so that part's definitely covered! Thanks for the advice!
@Grail_Quest Thanks! I'm really looking forward to playing 2 given all the praise I've heard for it. I'd like to think I've built up some pretty good horror tolerance at this point, so I'm sure I can handle it! Speaking of Alone in the Dark, how do those hold up? I've been into horror movies for a while now, but I'm still fairly new to survival horror games, so I missed a lot of these classic games. I've been curious about that series since I know it's another one of the genre's pioneers.
Skyward Sword HD is my main game at the moment. I'm maybe a bit over a third of the way through if I had to guess and I'm having a blast with it! I played a bit back on the Wii, but my console broke shortly after I got it, so I never got to make it very far (by the time it was fixed, I lost all momentum and just never got back to it). I'm well past where I left off back in the day now. I'll also be playing a bit of The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles as well, just finished the first case a little bit ago.
Outside of the Switch, I decided to pick Monster Hunter Stories back up while I wait for Pokemon Legends Arceus in a few weeks. Still pretty early in that one, but it's been fun. I finally finished Silent Hill recently, so I might jump into Silent Hill 2 this weekend as well. I'd also like to get in some Back 4 Blood if I happen to have time to play with friends, but that's uncertain at the moment.
@Gus_Campos I haven't heard anything about a fix unfortunately. Sounds like you're better off getting this on another platform if you want to play it and have access to another device.
While I haven't played as Leatherface (I prefer Ghostface and Michael), as a huge horror fan who plays Dead by Daylight from time to time, I thought it was a cool idea to give Leatherface masks based on survivors from the game. It was a fun idea to tie things into his movies... That being said, while I'm sad to see the entire concept being removed from the game, I do understand that Claudette's mask was being used for horrible purposes and I'm disappointed that people used it to harass others. The Dead by Daylight community unfortunately has a lot of people who like to do their best to get a rise out of others, and I guess this was one way people took that to a serious extreme.
@gloom I personally wouldn't say this controversy was really on the part of the developers. I don't think they had bad intentions when they made this cosmetic, though it's not really hard to understand why people would be upset when it's used to harass others. Removing the masks was probably the safest and easiest action they could take here.
Pokemon Legends Arceus, Gunvolt Chronicles 2, Triangle Strategy, .hack//G.U. Last Recode, and Chocobo GP are all games I plan on picking up over these next few months. Not really sure about Rune Factory 5, I was excited about it but footage from the Japanese release has me worried.
I'm most excited for Triangle Strategy in terms of this genre, but Advance Wars 1+2 and Metal Slug Tactics are both games I'd like to pick up as well. I do hope we also get a new Fire Emblem this year, it feels like it's about time to see one pop up.
I don't get the hate for ports. A good game is a good game regardless of how old it is, and games aren't like movies where you can just pop in your disc from 20 years ago on any modern system and play them that way. Making good games accessible is always a plus as long as it can work properly on the hardware, and it's not like they detract from new games either. They're usually handled by smaller teams. It's nothing but a positive in my mind.
Thanks for doing this interview, NintendoLife! I love any chance to hear more about the process behind my favorite game of the year, plus any bit of exposure helps. This is a game that really deserved better than what it got with how incredible it is. I can tell that the dev team put a lot of passion and love into it, just like Kando said. I really hope that we can get another entry one day since the team wants to return to it (I'd love a prequel focused on a certain event the game alludes to often personally). I tend to be pretty skeptical of games from the Square side of Square Enix, but TWEWY is a series I'll always hold in high regard given all the love and care put into it. There's nothing else like it.
@Joe-b It's not a matter of not having the money. Every service gets hit hard with traffic this time of year every year. It's how it always goes. People are warned every year, but then they act shocked when it inevitably happens and act like it's only Nintendo who has this issue. Having one day where everyone with a Switch tries to log into the eShop on top of everyone who just got one trying to set up their system is inevitably going to overload the servers even if you work hard to combat it. Look at how Steam's impossible to navigate hours after every major sale for another example.
On Switch, I'm at a point where I need a break from Pokemon (80+ hours later), so I decided to jump into Doom 64 since it's a relatively short game and I could use that after pouring so much time into Pokemon. On the digital side of things, I also picked KOTOR back up. I'd guess I'm halfway through right now.
Outside of the Switch, I got Back 4 Blood on Steam earlier, so I'll be playing some of that. This might also be the weekend I finally get back to Silent Hill, too...
@SmaggTheSmug There were four months between Balan and Neo where Square could've focused on it but they didn't. Neo got something like three seconds of footage in their E3 conference. Seconds, not minutes. It's absolutely absurd how much they seemed to sabotage it. Of course it won't sell Final Fantasy or Marvel numbers without any advertising. It's a shame because most fans loved the sequel and the dev team is very enthusiastic and passionate about the series, but they keep getting screwed over by the higher-ups in the company.
@Blizzia There are some character and plot ties that come up as the game goes on. It generally tries to explain everything for newcomers, but not everything will make perfect sense without context. It works on its own for the most part though. If you really want to understand the story without playing the first, there's an anime adaptation of it, though the pacing is kind of all over the place and it leaves out the Switch-exclusive epilogue.
@GrailUK They're requesting support because the dev team wants to do it, but the higher-ups at Square won't greenlight it unless they see enough financial benefit. That's how it usually is with these smaller projects. Some studios will try to blackmail fans, yes, but that's not the case here. Square sabotaged the game with awful marketing and acted shocked that it didn't meet their expectations, so now it's up to the dev team and fans to rally together and show Square that this is a series that means a lot to many people. It's a game that really deserved better than what it got so that's why the developers are being so vocal about asking fans to show their support. Management makes the final say on anything, the devs can't just make whatever they want without approval.
@Dimitris670 I made that comment less to change their mind and more to clean up misinformation. I figure most of the people angry about a couple lines of dialogue won't change their minds, but exaggerated comments about how the entire localization is awful and ruins the game can put off people who may otherwise be genuinely interested in the game. There's an insane amount of misinformation going around on this site's comments these days to manufacture rage and I'm tired of it, so especially when it comes to a series that's very near and dear to my heart, I want to clear things up for people who aren't familiar with the situation and may be swayed by people making false statements about the localization. The more people playing this game, the better in my personal opinion.
One of the first things I did after waking up was put in my pre-order. I've wanted to get into these games for ages (I liked .hack//Sign as a teen), and while I got the GU trilogy on Steam a while back, I'd much rather play on the Switch. Having a physical copy makes it even better. I figured we'd never get the Begins Edition out here, so I'm happy to be wrong!

Re: Random: Logan Paul Paid $3.5 Million For Fake Pokémon Trading Cards
Isn't this the guy who was selling NFTs that were pictures of his Pokemon cards for thousands of dollars? Seems hypocritical for him to complain about being scammed. That's ignoring his... many other controversies, too.
Re: Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic Getting Patch To Fix That Giant Bloody Text Box
Figures this comes along a couple weeks after I finish the game... it wasn't a huge deal, but it was something that got a bit distracting in battles. Good to hear they're finally fixing it at least, hopefully it'll be included on LRG's physical release.
Re: Chocobo GP's Characters Will Be Able To Race In Three Different Types Of Rides
@EarthboundBenjy Yep, and Terra from FFVI is also in. I don't think any other mainline FF heroes have been confirmed yet, but I hope they're saving some surprises. I'd love to see Celes, personally.
Re: Kirby's New Switch Game Appears To Include amiibo Support
Re: Kirby's New Switch Game Appears To Include amiibo Support
I'd love to see some new amiibo for some of the one-off Kirby characters. Marx and Susie in particular come to mind, but there are a lot of options to choose from.
Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Capcom's Monster Hunter Rise PC Port
While I'm perfectly happy with my Switch copy, it's good to hear the PC port's solid! Hopefully this helps get more people into this fantastic game. It's good to see some studios doing PC ports the right way given how the subject's always a mixed bag.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (January 8th)
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (January 8th)
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (January 8th)
Re: Review: Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection - Ryu Hayabusa Deserves Better Than This
@Gus_Campos I haven't heard anything about a fix unfortunately. Sounds like you're better off getting this on another platform if you want to play it and have access to another device.
Re: Dead By Daylight To Lose Leatherface 'Survivor Mask' Cosmetic Following In-Game Harassment
Re: Upcoming Nintendo Switch Games And Accessories For January And February 2022
Re: Soapbox: 2022 Is Looking Glorious For Tactics Games On Switch
I'm most excited for Triangle Strategy in terms of this genre, but Advance Wars 1+2 and Metal Slug Tactics are both games I'd like to pick up as well. I do hope we also get a new Fire Emblem this year, it feels like it's about time to see one pop up.
Re: Feature: Nintendo Switch Ports We'd Love To See In 2022
I don't get the hate for ports.
Re: Feature: "I Feel Like All Of The Emotion I Have Held For 'The World Ends With You' Has Been Released Through This Latest Game"
Re: Nintendo's eShop Experienced Outages Over Christmas (Again)
@Joe-b Ah, sorry about that. I've seen a lot of people not understanding how this works and didn't catch that you were just joking.
Re: Nintendo's eShop Experienced Outages Over Christmas (Again)
@Joe-b It's not a matter of not having the money. Every service gets hit hard with traffic this time of year every year. It's how it always goes. People are warned every year, but then they act shocked when it inevitably happens and act like it's only Nintendo who has this issue. Having one day where everyone with a Switch tries to log into the eShop on top of everyone who just got one trying to set up their system is inevitably going to overload the servers even if you work hard to combat it. Look at how Steam's impossible to navigate hours after every major sale for another example.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (December 25th Holiday Special)
Re: 'The World Ends With You' Could Get Another Game If Fans Show Their Support
@SmaggTheSmug There were four months between Balan and Neo where Square could've focused on it but they didn't. Neo got something like three seconds of footage in their E3 conference. Seconds, not minutes. It's absolutely absurd how much they seemed to sabotage it. Of course it won't sell Final Fantasy or Marvel numbers without any advertising. It's a shame because most fans loved the sequel and the dev team is very enthusiastic and passionate about the series, but they keep getting screwed over by the higher-ups in the company.
Re: 'The World Ends With You' Could Get Another Game If Fans Show Their Support
@Blizzia There are some character and plot ties that come up as the game goes on. It generally tries to explain everything for newcomers, but not everything will make perfect sense without context. It works on its own for the most part though. If you really want to understand the story without playing the first, there's an anime adaptation of it, though the pacing is kind of all over the place and it leaves out the Switch-exclusive epilogue.
Re: 'The World Ends With You' Could Get Another Game If Fans Show Their Support
Re: 'The World Ends With You' Could Get Another Game If Fans Show Their Support
Re: Bandai Namco Announces .hack//G.U. Last Recode Physical Switch Release
