@Silly_G You clearly don't know the context if you think the localizers were trying to preach about cultural appropriation or get political. That's a single line of dialogue from a background NPC, and on top of that, the whole point of it is that he's worried about whether or not his decision to start a curry restaurant with a Japanese twist is right, and after being influenced by entities that amplify negative emotions, he feels that what he's doing is (as he puts it since it's a term more familiar with westerners) cultural appropriation. However, once he's freed of those entities, he realizes that's not true, he's sharing other cultural experiences with his own unique twist and that blend of cultures and experiences is what makes it special. The entire point of the series is about opening up to new experiences and coming together with others to create something new. It's the exact opposite of what Twitter's trying to argue the scene means.
@anoyonmus I could kinda see it working on PC, but there's no way the first game would work on PS4. It's way too dependent on having a touch screen. Switch made it work with motion controls, but it'd be impossible to make it work with just normal button controls while retaining what made the game special. The touchpad on the Dualshock 4/Dualsense wouldn't work well for it at all either. If you want to blame failed multiplatform releases, blame Square making Neo an Epic exclusive and barely advertising that release.
I know I've posted this on every article vaguely related to the topic, but I'll say it again: if anyone's at all interested in the series, please give it a shot. Both games are incredible and deserve a lot more attention than what they both have. If Square bothered to put effort into marketing Neo, I'm sure it'd be in a lot more game of the year discussions. I'd highly recommend playing the original first if possible, but jumping in with Neo is possible too. They're the best action RPGs I've ever played and I really hope that Square can see how dedicated fans are so that a third entry can be greenlit. The combat's really fun and unique, the writing is top-notch, the characters are super memorable, and Neo in particular is a contender for my all-time favorite video game soundtrack. I really can't recommend these games enough to JRPG fans.
While it's not my favorite RPG (nor is it in my top 5, though it'd be really close), Chrono Trigger is absolutely an incredible game that should be on the Switch. Square's unfortunately really spotty with how it handles ports and re-releases, but if that Chrono Cross remaster leak is true (which I think it is given how spot-on the Nvidia leak's been, and I'm someone who's generally very skeptical of rumors), I think Trigger will come with it as well. Square knows it has a very loud and dedicated fanbase.
@Deathstar461 This isn't by Nintendo though. It's by Hobonichi, a company started by the creator of the Mother series. He owns the rights, he can do all the merchandise he wants.
@VoidofLight They never said this isn't coming to the west. In the event where it was revealed, Enix led with a trailer for DQX Online that had a little note saying "This game won't be released in the west." The DQX Offline trailer had no such note. I'm positive this will come to the west, it'll just take longer because it needs to be translated. The Japanese version can just reuse all the text from the Online release so it gets to save time in that regard. I'll be shocked if any future major DQ games aren't localized given the recent efforts to expand the series' presence outside Japan after XI's success.
Still going at it with Brilliant Diamond's postgame. Currently working through Ramanas Park, still pretty early in that sidequest. Also spending time in the Grand Underground again catching new Pokemon and hunting for treasure. I'll also be playing Shovel Knight: Pocket Dungeon on Switch because I'm a huge Shovel Knight fan and this one's a lot of fun.
Outside of Switch, as usual, I'll say I need to get back to Silent Hill soon... maybe I'll actually do it this time! We also switched to a new ISP this last week, so I can finally play Final Fantasy XIV again. Our old one would throttle my connection any time I tried to play it, so it's nice to return to that, even if the servers are currently overloaded so it takes time to get in.
Neo TWEWY being in the top 10 was a very pleasant surprise given how that game seemed to go under the radar for most people. If anyone's even remotely interested, PLEASE give it a chance. It's an incredible game. The directors recently said they'd like to do a third game but that fans will need to show management that there's demand for it, so every little bit helps.
Anyway, my favorites this year would probably be... 1. Neo: The World Ends With You 2. Monster Hunter Rise 3. Metroid Dread 4. Pokemon Brilliant Diamond 5. Tossup between New Pokemon Snap and WarioWare: Get it Together
I'm tempted to put Bowser's Fury in the #5 spot, but it's a bit weird since it's not really a full game. I could see Shovel Knight: Pocket Dungeon taking the #5 spot as I play more of it, too.
This had my attention up until I saw Illfonic. I'm still upset at how they treated Friday the 13th, it had so much potential. I can't think of any other game that actively got worse with each update, but they managed to do just that.
Sea of Stars is probably in my top 5 games I'm most excited for next year in general. I loved The Messenger and I'm a huge fan of retro JRPGs, so it looks right up my alley. River City Girls 2 also looks really fun, I enjoyed the first game so I can't wait to try the sequel. I'd say Parkasaurus rounds out my top 3 since I like Zoo Tycoon-style games, I got that one on Steam but I don't really like to sit at my PC to play games these days. Having it on Switch would be really great.
1. Neo: The World Ends With You - 96 hours 2. Monster Hunter Rise - 71 hours 3. Pokemon Brilliant Diamond - 51 hours 631 hours in total (684 last year) August was my most active month at 96 hours (Neo TWEWY came at the end of July and I was busy for the first few days after launch so that makes sense).
About what I expected. My most-played game last year was Xenoblade Definitive Edition with 104 hours, and I'm pretty sure my most-played in 2019 was Dragon Quest XIS, so that's my three favorite game series all represented as my most-played games for the last three years. That's a pretty fun detail, I'm very happy my Switch now has an entry in each of those series (Xenoblade, TWEWY, DQ)
This is a huge addition to an already pretty incredible roster of horror classics. I always thought Sadako would be a really cool killer, but I figured Spirit was their way of filling the Japanese supernatural horror niche without licensing Ringu, Ju-On, or anything else similar. I'm really excited to see this chapter in action!
@Asaki They're calling it Ringu because that's how the original Japanese books/films are distinguished in the west. This is inspired by the Japanese version, not the American remake and its sequels.
For everyone saying Nintendo's killing the 3DS, if I remember correctly, this is just because the 3DS doesn't support two-factor authentication and they could get in trouble offering this option without 2FA as an option. It's probably easier to just disable credit cards than it is to retrofit 2FA on the 3DS. eShop cards will still work, this means absolutely nothing for the future fate of the 3DS eShop. You can still get games and I doubt the eShop will shut down any time soon.
@rushiosan The Steam launch was awful, but Square pushed out updates that fixed its issues and made it a very solid release of the game. It'd be perfectly fine if that version got ported to consoles, though I'm in the camp that would prefer just the original SNES version.
@link3710 Not a remake, but a remaster was leaked by Nvidia. But yeah, I could see both coming to consoles in a bundle since Trigger somehow hasn't seen a console release since the Wii.
Yes, Terra's in! I'll be maining her with that Magitek Armor unless Celes joins too. I'm super excited for this, and the free lite version's a nice bonus to try to rope some friends into trying it out with me.
Neo: The World Ends With You, easily. The original instantly became one of my all-time favorites when I played it almost a decade ago, and Neo was absolutely worth the long wait. It's not a completely perfect game, but it's much more ambitious in its scope than the original and I feel it's still phenomenal in most regards. I'm not a huge action RPG fan, but alongside its predecessor, Neo has the best real-time combat in any game I've ever played. It does a perfect job of translating the original style to a more traditional format without losing any of what makes it special. Its plot is gripping and its characters are fantastic. And of course, the soundtrack is as perfect as I'd expect from a sequel to TWEWY. It's easily in my top 5 games of all time and I think it's a shame that so many people overlooked it. I've given up hope for a third entry after Square's sales reports for Neo, but I'm happy I at least got to play a second entry since I gave up on that dream years ago.
I've been taking a break from Brilliant Diamond, but I'm hoping to get back to that and finish it this weekend. I finished Quake last night, so that's another game on the Switch backlog down! Doom 64, Stardew Valley, and KOTOR are all possibilities on the Switch side of things as well.
Outside of the Switch, I want to get back to Silent Hill this weekend. Maybe I'll return to Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot as well, who knows?
I'll play it on Wii U Virtual Console at some point since I have it there, just haven't gotten around to it yet. I don't hate the NSO Expansion Pack, but I don't feel any need to rush to get it with its current library, especially since a lot of its games are also on Virtual Console or I can just grab the original cartridges.
I'm hoping the amiibo won't be GameStop exclusive even though I already know they will be. I'd love to at least get Malzeno, but I hate the idea of giving GameStop any money. Missed out on all the previous MH amiibo aside from Magnamalo because they were GS-exclusives and I couldn't import.
@Specter_of-the_OLED @Meteoroid A physical release with the DLC included was announced back when the game first came to Switch. The DLC delays are why it's taken so long for the physical release to drop, they wanted to wait until everything was ready.
I'm a huge Evil Dead fan, so I'm absolutely looking forward to hearing more about the upcoming game. We haven't seen a lot so far, but it looks like a blast and there's a lot of love from across the series going into it, so I'm really excited for that one! I'm curious to see if Saber maybe announces any other crazy Switch ports, too.
@CactusMan You can also just get a USB ethernet adapter for like $10-$15 and use that instead. It's what I've been doing for a few years with mine (still using my day one model), it works perfectly fine and it's way cheaper than buying the OLED dock just for the ethernet port. Of course, it is a nice bonus for anyone looking to get a second dock.
@UltimateOtaku91 It's a bit weird. First things first, put the keystone in the little stone tower south of Solaceon. Unlike the originals where you had to interact with other players to get Spiritomb, in the remakes, you need to talk to 32 unique NPCs in the Underground. When you walk around, you'll see NPCs standing around, one per "segment" of the Underground (the spaces between two dens). They're all random spawns, but they're heavily biased towards certain regions and segments. You need to talk to the ones with names, hikers won't count. I'd advise keeping track of who all you've spoken with already by writing the names down. Once you've talked to 32, go back to that tower and Spiritomb will come out.
I will say that trying to do this before postgame is a REALLY long grind that's kind of a slog since NPCs have heavy bias towards spawning in particular regions and you unlock more regions as you progress through the story. It's doable, but it'll take hours of grinding. I personally went to Hearthome City, dug to the Underground there, and stayed in that area. There should be a den south of where you start with two symmetrical paths leading to it. NPCs tend to spawn along those paths, so just run around it in a circle to find them. It took me a LONG time, so unless you're dead-set on using one for the main story, I'd say wait until postgame to make it way easier.
I'll be playing some more Pokemon Brilliant Diamond. Trying to get a Spiritomb before I head for Galactic HQ... it's a slog of a grind but I really want one for my team. It's been a good excuse to listen to some music and zone out though, so it's not all bad. Just two more NPCs to find and I'll be set!
Silent Hill and The Legend of Zelda are still both options as well. I'm also feeling kinda tempted to start up .hack//Infection to get ready for the GU remaster port.
Yes! I've been wanting to get into this series for ages. I picked up the first four games at the start of this year and got GU on Steam, but I haven't had a chance to play them yet, so I'll definitely play this over the Steam version! I loved the .Hack//Sign anime back in high school and really wanted to get into the games, but they were hard to track down. If only teenage me knew how hard they'd be to find now... This is easily a day one buy for me, I want to do what I can to help support the series. The devs have been very vocal about how they want to do more, but Namco's holding them back. I hope this does well enough for Namco to change its mind!
I'm really enjoying Brilliant Diamond, but between the forced affection and forced EXP. Share mechanics, I really do feel like it's too easy. I haven't noticed much of an overall level increase over the last four gyms, but my team's gone up quite a few levels at this point. The affection effects aren't coming up super often, but they're still kind of annoying and it feels like cheating. If people want to have those mechanics, that's fine! But it shouldn't be forced on people who don't want them either. There's no reason to do that. Great games, but those are two major flaws.
BOTW2 will probably be there since this show has a good history with BOTW1, but I don't think that's what Geoff's teasing here. He's making it sound like a heavily anticipated game that hasn't been announced yet or that's seen radio silence for at least a couple years. Personally, my guess would be Silksong, but my heart wants it to be Half-Life 3 or something else by Valve. Half-Life Alyx was supposed to get a big preview at TGA 2019 before Valve pulled out of the deal, but Geoff's always been close friends with Gabe Newell and has a lot of insight on Valve's projects. I think if they have anything to show, this would be the place to reveal it.
Pokemon Brilliant Diamond for me. I just got my third badge, I've been spending a ton of time messing around in the Underground or doing other side things. I'm having a lot of fun with it so far! It's not perfect, but it's a pretty good remake. I'm still trying to decide on my team, it's tough to choose... I might also work in a bit of Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania since I picked up that and Kirby Star Allies during Black Friday sales earlier in the week, and maybe some KOTOR if that and Pokemon don't prove to be too much to handle together.
On other platforms, I should really get back to Silent Hill soon. I'd like to continue my playthrough of Zelda 1 on the Game & Watch soon, too.
I think this will get localized. During the Dragon Quest anniversary stream, the online version came up before this with a note that version would only be available in Japanese. DQX Offline immediately followed with no similar warning. My guess is we'll probably get it after Japan since it all needs to be translated still while they can just reuse the text from the MMO, but I'm confident DQX Offline will get an international release! I'm very excited, I've played most of the other main series entries at this point (all but VI and VIII, which I know I need to get to soon), so I'd love to get a chance to play this one too.
@Wyndorfff The DQIII remake never had a release window from what I remember, though I'd imagine we'll see more of it next year.
I'm honestly really mad about this. Of course it didn't meet expectations when you swept it under the rug and acted like it didn't exist. Maybe if it got more than 3 total seconds of coverage in their E3 presentation, this would be a different story. If they had done ANYTHING to bother marketing it, maybe more people would see what a fantastic game it is. Neo is easily my game of the year, and I'm really sad that the series has been overlooked not just once, but twice now. This is the final nail in its coffin, unfortunately.
Haven't played the original and only played a bit of The Impossible Lair, so I can't really say much on this one. All I have to say is it'd be a real missed opportunity if its title isn't Twooka-Laylee.
I'd be playing Brilliant Diamond if it wasn't for the fact that my copy won't arrive until Monday... I guess that while I wait, I'll have KOTOR and Final Fantasy XII to keep me busy on Switch. I also decided to pick up Neo: The World Ends With You again and do some grinding to finish off my pin/item collection, which is fun.
Outside of Switch, I've been trying to get in some more VR lately. Blade & Sorcery, Beat Saber, and Pistol Whip are my go-to games at the moment. I should try to get back to Silent Hill as well, and while I said I'd go back to ALTTP last week, I got sucked back into Zelda 1 on the Game & Watch...
This honestly looks pretty promising! I look forward to seeing more character reveals. Really hoping for Freddy, Jason, or Pennywise to make it... Courage and the Warner siblings would be really cool to see as well.
@arrmixer Thanks! It's one I'd like to revisit soon as well, but I'm making myself hold off until I finish the older PlayStation Xeno games.
@HANH Xenoblade X. The games you listed are all great as well! I'm glad the Switch is giving more people an opportunity to experience the Wii U's library, it really deserved more attention.
I'm getting the physical double pack for Pokemon to split with my brother, just waiting for it to ship... I also plan to get Death's Door, but I'll be pre-ordering Special Reserve Games' physical release, so it'll be a while before I can play it.
@Maximumbeans Agreed! I still use the old GBC and SNES I had when I was very young from time to time, the hardware holds up well and there are plenty of timeless games on all their systems. If it wasn't for the fact that the vast majority of its notable games have been ported to the Switch at this point, I'd say I could see the Wii U becoming a hit with collectors in another 5-10 years much like the GameCube has been lately. The DS/3DS also have fantastic libraries, I come back to them very frequently!
I didn't realize it's been 9 years... Time's really flown by. I know it's not a popular opinion, but I love the Wii U and I think it had a fair amount of strong games in its library, even if it wasn't as many as other systems. It's also the only console that can play my favorite game of all time, so it'll always hold a special place in my heart for that.
Neo: The World Ends With You was snubbed for both best soundtrack and best RPG. I'm not surprised, but I'm definitely disappointed. It really could've used the attention boost that even a nomination would give it.
Honestly, this looks really cool and I'd take it over another Xenoverse game any day. Not that Xenoverse is bad, I enjoyed both, but 2 just felt like 1 with a slightly different storyline and new characters so I don't feel like there's much point in doing a third. I like that they're trying something new, and as a fan of both asymmetrical horror and Dragon Ball, I'm absolutely looking forward to this.
@RupeeClock The last few Dragon Ball games had someone else voice Frieza due to Ayres' health issues, so my guess is it will be the same case here unfortunately. I'd love to be wrong though, it would be cool to see it as a final send-off to him.
"I was going to hold off for a physical on KOTOR since I have the game digitally on Steam and the Steam Deck was set to come out soon, but with the delay, I'm tempted to just grab it on the eShop for some portable Star Wars... The thing is that I know they'll announce a physical release the day after I get it if I do cave in. I always like to go physical, but this one's super tempting..."
my original comment when I got KOTOR on the eShop. A few days off, but close enough. I'll get the standard edition, the other two are way too expensive for what they include.
@Lyapunov I believe they already announced back at E3 they'd do a physical release. I'll hold off for that probably, but I've always heard really great things about this game, so I'm looking forward to it!
I don't find it as distracting as most seem to, but I do think there's no reason for the box to be as big as it is. It's not even the text that's an issue, the box is just massive and has a ton of empty space. The Steam version's textbox is just fine, I don't know why Aspyr changed it for this port.
On Switch, I'll be split between Final Fantasy XII and Knights of the Old Republic. Between those and Brilliant Diamond next week, I don't think I have enough RPGs to play on the system...
I'm picking up my Zelda Game & Watch tomorrow, so I'll probably play around with it a bit. It's making me realize I really need to get back to A Link to the Past on my 3DS, though, so I might try to finish that before I play anything seriously on the G&W. I need to get in some more Silent Hill 1 as well.
I'm excited to pick mine up this weekend! I'd love to see Nintendo continue this idea, it's not as good as the NES/SNES Classics were in terms of value but they're really cool collector items. Maybe a Kirby one with Dreamland 1+2, Adventure, and maybe the GB spin-offs next year to celebrate his anniversary?
Also, I know this will sound pedantic, but Link's Awakening HD is a full remake, not a remaster. It's important to distinguish the two, they're completely different and a lot of misinformation gets spread when they're used interchangeably.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (December 11th)
Re: Edge Of Eternity - Cloud Version Launches On Nintendo Switch February 2022
No thanks, I'll just grab it on PS4 like I originally planned to do. Not going to support this cloud nonsense.
Re: Poll: Paper Mario Is Out Now On Nintendo Switch Online, Will You Be Playing It?
I'll play it on Wii U Virtual Console at some point since I have it there, just haven't gotten around to it yet. I don't hate the NSO Expansion Pack, but I don't feel any need to rush to get it with its current library, especially since a lot of its games are also on Virtual Console or I can just grab the original cartridges.
Re: Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak DLC Gets A New Teaser, Three More amiibo Also Unveiled
Re: Cuphead's 'Delicious Last Course' DLC Launches Next Year On 30th June
@Specter_of-the_OLED @Meteoroid A physical release with the DLC included was announced back when the game first came to Switch. The DLC delays are why it's taken so long for the physical release to drop, they wanted to wait until everything was ready.
Re: Switch Port Specialist Saber Interactive To Reveal Multiple New Games At The Game Awards And 'Saber Showcase'
Re: Nintendo's Switch OLED Dock Can Now Be Purchased Separately (North America)
@CactusMan You can also just get a USB ethernet adapter for like $10-$15 and use that instead. It's what I've been doing for a few years with mine (still using my day one model), it works perfectly fine and it's way cheaper than buying the OLED dock just for the ethernet port. Of course, it is a nice bonus for anyone looking to get a second dock.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (December 4th)
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (December 4th)
Re: .hack//G.U. Last Recode Is Coming To Nintendo Switch Next Year
Re: Talking Point: How Do You Feel About Pokémon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl's Affection Rates?
I'm really enjoying Brilliant Diamond, but between the forced affection and forced EXP. Share mechanics, I really do feel like it's too easy. I haven't noticed much of an overall level increase over the last four gyms, but my team's gone up quite a few levels at this point. The affection effects aren't coming up super often, but they're still kind of annoying and it feels like cheating. If people want to have those mechanics, that's fine! But it shouldn't be forced on people who don't want them either. There's no reason to do that. Great games, but those are two major flaws.
Re: The Game Awards Has A "World Premiere" It's Been Working On With A Dev For 2.5 Years, And One Guess Is Zelda
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (November 27th)
Re: Gallery: Square Enix Shares New Screenshots Of Dragon Quest X Offline, Coming To Switch In 2022
I think this will get localized.
Re: NEO: The World Ends With You Has 'Underperformed Expectations', Square Enix Says
@Pres_Shinra Thanks! I'd say Shoka was my favorite character in Neo, but I think Tsugumi worked best for my avatar choice.
Re: NEO: The World Ends With You Has 'Underperformed Expectations', Square Enix Says
Re: Epic Games Acquires Harmonix, Makers Of Rock Band, To Work On Fortnite
And another studio sent to the Fortnite mines... I wonder how long it'll be before Harmonix's games are pulled from Steam?
Re: Playtonic's Original Yooka-Laylee Game Is Getting A Follow-Up Title
Haven't played the original and only played a bit of The Impossible Lair, so I can't really say much on this one. All I have to say is it'd be a real missed opportunity if its title isn't Twooka-Laylee.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (November 20th)
Re: MultiVersus From Warner Bros Is A Free-To-Play Platform Fighter, Skipping Switch
This honestly looks pretty promising! I look forward to seeing more character reveals. Really hoping for Freddy, Jason, or Pennywise to make it... Courage and the Warner siblings would be really cool to see as well.
Re: Wii U's Getting A New Game, And This Will Probably Be The Last
@arrmixer Thanks!
Re: Nintendo Download: 18th November (North America)
I'm getting the physical double pack for Pokemon to split with my brother, just waiting for it to ship... I also plan to get Death's Door, but I'll be pre-ordering Special Reserve Games' physical release, so it'll be a while before I can play it.
Re: Wii U's Getting A New Game, And This Will Probably Be The Last
@arrmixer Xenoblade X. I love all three Xenoblade games, but X is my favorite.
Re: Wii U's Getting A New Game, And This Will Probably Be The Last
@Maximumbeans Agreed!
Re: Wii U's Getting A New Game, And This Will Probably Be The Last
I didn't realize it's been 9 years... Time's really flown by. I know it's not a popular opinion, but I love the Wii U and I think it had a fair amount of strong games in its library, even if it wasn't as many as other systems. It's also the only console that can play my favorite game of all time, so it'll always hold a special place in my heart for that.
Re: Rumour: Official Teases Point To Smash Bros. Imitator "Warner Bros Multiversus"
Here's hoping it's actually good... It could be promising as just a really crazy crossover at least.
Re: Metroid Dread In The Running With The Game Awards GOTY Nomination
Neo: The World Ends With You was snubbed for both best soundtrack and best RPG. I'm not surprised, but I'm definitely disappointed. It really could've used the attention boost that even a nomination would give it.
Re: Dragon Ball: The Breakers Is A Seven-Against-One Online Multiplayer Game Coming To Switch
Re: Star Wars: KOTOR Is Receiving A Limited Run Games Physical Release On Switch
Re: Review: A Boy and His Blob - An Experience That Has Aged Gracefully
@Lyapunov I believe they already announced back at E3 they'd do a physical release. I'll hold off for that probably, but I've always heard really great things about this game, so I'm looking forward to it!
Re: That Large Combat Text Box In Star Wars: KOTOR On Switch Is "Intended"
I don't find it as distracting as most seem to, but I do think there's no reason for the box to be as big as it is. It's not even the text that's an issue, the box is just massive and has a ton of empty space. The Steam version's textbox is just fine, I don't know why Aspyr changed it for this port.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (November 13th)
Re: Hardware Review: Game & Watch: The Legend Of Zelda - A Link To Link's Past
I'm excited to pick mine up this weekend! I'd love to see Nintendo continue this idea, it's not as good as the NES/SNES Classics were in terms of value but they're really cool collector items. Maybe a Kirby one with Dreamland 1+2, Adventure, and maybe the GB spin-offs next year to celebrate his anniversary?
Also, I know this will sound pedantic, but Link's Awakening HD is a full remake, not a remaster. It's important to distinguish the two, they're completely different and a lot of misinformation gets spread when they're used interchangeably.
