Re: Soapbox: The Wii U Virtual Console Needs to Freshen Up

Prof_Elvin_Gadd

@unrandomsam I was mistaken on the Wii U Pro Controller. The triggers have some give so I assumed they were analogue, and that is why you don't assume, and always leave a note. So, you listed 3 games, one that requires analogue triggers and two that don't. There are hundreds upon hundreds of other games, some of which undoubtedly require it. I never said it was impossible, it's just a hurdle for Nintendo. I'm not sure listing those 3 games was necessary, especially when one of them is merely a classic collection of games not even originally made for the GameCube.

Hey @Jazzer94 How about you give me some time to reply before piling on?

You did mention something I've also seen as a problem for GameCube games on the Wii U, however. The GamePad doesn't have analogue triggers, so making those games playable on the GamePad is probably a no go. The Wii U Controller Pro does have analogue triggers, if I'm not mistaken, so one of those would probably be required to play certain GameCube games on the Wii U VC. I have one, so it's not a big deal, but playing them on the GamePad would have been nice. Sure, they could redo the controls, but pressure sensitive triggers are needed for some games.

@Superconsole I would agree with those recent scores, though I'm not a fan of people basing so much off one number when there are hundreds of words explaining what the reviewer thought about the game right above it. The three games you've reviewed recently are all great, having played them all. You must be one of the luckiest game reviewers on Earth!

Re: GameStop Advert Offers A Link Between Worlds 3DS XL and Luigi Bundle

Prof_Elvin_Gadd

It seems like a lot of gaming news sites (not saying just you) are reporting that this is the LE Luigi 3DS XL, which it is not. If you'll remember, that one is white and has little Luigi's all over it, with one Mario on the back. This one seems to be a dark blue colored regular 3DS model. So just a heads up. That's not the Luigi XL. You might want to change that.

Hopefully you can pre order the Zelda 3DS XL. I could get one of my friends at GameStop to hold one back for me, but I'd rather be fair. It's just going to be a collection item for me anyhow. That 3DS is beautiful!

Re: Review: Sonic Lost World (Wii U)

Prof_Elvin_Gadd

A 7 isn't the end of the world. It's "good" to most folks. However, I'll probably wait until the price drops a bit before I pick this up. That's only because there are so many games coming out next month. I'd say to those of you who were excited about this game and now aren't because it got a 7. What? A 7 isn't bad! Why do people always go crazy if their game doesn't get an 8, 9, or 10? People are strange.

Re: Wii Party U Gets It Started With a Relatively Hefty File Size

Prof_Elvin_Gadd

@Amin_and_Azizah Thank you! @rjejr is a good guy, I just disagree. I actually agree with the Nintendo representative that said what I just said: that some of the blame falls on the retailers for causing this confusion. It's pretty simple, in reality. Don't get me wrong, the Wii U name is iffy to begin with. As I stated above, Nintendo U, or Nintendo Ultra System, would have been much better in my opinion. Wii U is what they went with though and everyone needs to deal with it. It's not hard to explain that the Wii is their last generation system and plays Wii games while the Wii U is their new HD system and plays both Wii and Wii U games, however.

Re: Wii Party U Gets It Started With a Relatively Hefty File Size

Prof_Elvin_Gadd

@rjejr You're thinking about that way too much. Nintendo isn't like and doesn't want to be like any of the other 2 major console companies, so comparing them and how they name their games is an exercise in futility. I'm sure some people are confused, but they are most likely part of the 75% and are confused by most things. Furthermore, if the employee at whatever store these games are being sold at can't explain the difference to the buyer they probably shouldn't be employed. It's really not that complicated to know the difference. We learn colors when we are, what, pre schoolers or before? "Ok folks. Wii games come in a white box. Wii U games come in a blue box." Are we selling games to Sloth from the Goonies?

Re: Eiji Aonuma Wants it to be "Fun To Get Stuck" in A Link Between Worlds

Prof_Elvin_Gadd

I cannot agree more with Aonuma-san on this one. I get so tired of hand holding in games these days. Granted, I was born in the mid 80's, so I grew up in an era of gaming where kids these days would not only rage quit a game, but gaming altogether. Bring on the challenge! Exploration is such a huge skill acquired through gaming. Discoveries are so much better when discovered by oneself.

@Bulby lol! I'm jealous. It's some made up holiday because some people seem to think Christopher Columbus discovered America, which is not true. He might have been the first white man to step foot in America, but who cares about that? Basically, it's a day that there is no mail delivery service, as far as I'm concerned haha.

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Eighteen

Prof_Elvin_Gadd

WGAYPTW has to be older than 18. It was hanging out over at GameInformer for years before she left and came here lol I'm just playing!

I'll be enjoying more of Wind Waker HD, a little GTA Online, and perhaps I'll play some Person 4 Golden on Vita if I have extra time. Happy gaming everyone!

Edit: And duh. Pokemon Y!!! That probably puts P4G on the back burner for the time being. I'll be back for you P4G. Have no fears.

Re: Hardware Review: Nintendo 2DS

Prof_Elvin_Gadd

I like the 3DS XL a ton, so this doesn't make me want to switch. I will, however, pick up a Limited Edition model when one is surely released at some point in time for my collection. The two colors coming to NA do nothing for me, but a Limited Edition model will.

Re: Talking Point: Marketing Wii U to the Masses

Prof_Elvin_Gadd

@Gioku I'm not so sure you do Good luck with your career! I honestly wish you the best. It's a competitive industry, and everyone thinks they are better than they are lol.

I'm not into marketing, so I don't want to comment on how to fix this issue. However, I'll wait until Mario Kart 8 is released before considering the Wii U a "failure" like so many people and media outlets are doing. It took a few special games for the 3DS to pick up sales, and I figure the same for the Wii U.
