@JaxonH What are you referring to? Check and see who published all of the latest DQ games in NA and then get back to me. Perhaps you should check your facts before jumping on someone. I'm in the industry my friend. Nice try. I'm not mad at anyone. It'd just be nice if Nintendo, again, as they have in the past, stepped up and published it in NA. I'm not blaming anyone for anything. I simply said "it makes me sad." One can become sad without blaming someone else for their sadness, can they not?
So yes, NoA has something to do with Dragon Quest.
Would I like SE to just do it themselves? I sure would. That's not going to happen, however, so on to the next one.
Dragon Quest makes me sad. It's my favorite JRPG series, but NOA seems to think it's not worth localizing the newer entries and ports. Such weak sauce and meatballs.
So, Thomas... RPG-like features or no? I noticed you started to mention their possibility and then kind of trailed off.
Anyhow... Look at you go May! Mario Golf and Kirby: Triple Deluxe for 3DS (on the same day no less!) and Mario Kart 8 at the end of the month. Thank you Nintendo!
KickStarter is whack, and a cop-out for the people who ask for money from people who struggle every day to earn it. People who donated to Oculus VR are mad. Why? If someone gave money it's their own fault. KickStarter is not the same as buying stock. You know a good way to support a company? Buy their product once it is, oh, I don't know, finished. I'm not funding an empty promise for anyone. Shigeru Miyamoto - my hero - could have a project on KickStarter and I wouldn't back it. I frankly think it's an act of idiocy. It'd be like you walking up to someone on the street and giving them money because they promised you they'd bring back a gift. They don't have to do jack for you after you give them money, and there's a good chance they won't. (You bet your butt I'd buy Miyamoto's finished product, however)
I like RK and Jools a lot. This is not directed at them or him. This is directed at KickStarter and all you people who think backing a project gets you anything truly special. You people should save your money and just buy the game when it is released. But hey, what do I know about investing money? Quite a bit, actually. KickStarter is the an investment with no return.
Having said that... I wish RK and Jools good luck with this project. I won't be backing, but if it turns out well I'll buy the finished project and support them and him the old fashioned way.
Edit: I apologize for being Robby Realist here (Debbie Downer's cousin), but some people just don't see this, and I take it upon myself to enlighten those in the dark.
I realize it's only their "next" game, so I'm not going to overreact. I also realize that some of these developers have no choice in what game they make or what hardware they make it for. I'm still SMDH though.
@ferthepoet It's the very first game in the Inazuma Eleven series, but this eShop version has some minor enhancements.
To those who are upset about the lack of a physical release: I doubt this particular game will ever see a physical release here in NA, so just buy this if you want to play it. You can bet your bottom they will judge any future Inazuma releases on how well this sells, so support it if you want/can.
Nintendo has sort of gone in a loop when it comes to 3rd party support, and hopefully they can get back to the top of that loop. The NES and SNES had great and more importantly quality 3rd party support. The N64, and more so GCN obviously didn't quite have the same amount of support. The Wii (an anomaly due to the amount of non-traditional gamers - who might have never bought a game console and might never will again - that purchased one), and even more glaringly the Wii U 3rd party support has been pretty abysmal. Three big problems I see with Wii U's 3rd party support thus far is 1. bad ports; 2. lack of features; and 3. delays. 1. If a player has an option to play a better version of the game, they more than likely will. 2. If another version of the same game has more features, the gamer will more than likely go for the version with more features. 3. If a game is delayed on only one console, a gamer who really wants to play said game will likely buy it for another console to play it ASAP.
Obviously there are other problems, but these are a few that I think could be fixed rather easily.
I wasn't a Sega kid, so I don't put Sonic on a pedestal like some (not saying that's a bad thing - he helped make home console gaming a thing), but this looks promising to me. However, it's always clever to not get too hyped when it comes to Sonic games, at least if recent history holds true. I am thinking Big Red Button doing this game is a good thing. Furthermore, the character design isn't all that bad. Sonic and Knuckle's legs might be a bit long, but oh well. Maybe they need to be that long. Have you seen those dudes run?!
@Zaphod_Beeblebrox You could be right. However, Google Glass and other wearable QOL devices are about to be released to the public, and in reality you, I, and even the great Michael Pachter don't really know what the impact of those devices on the market will be. Nintendo could be on to something here, and they also could be wasting their time and resources.
@Moorpheel They are leaping over Mobile and Wearable business platforms and going for a new non-wearable platform as far as integrated hardware-software goes. Basically, this means they won't be making a mobile phone or wearable QOL device, such as Google Glass, in the near future. They will instead focus their attention on innovating in the untapped non-wearable QOL market by creating both the hardware and software for this unknown device.
I'm not overly hyped for this game, but it's looking pretty fun. Nintendo never shows all of their best content in trailers. Hopefully it's another stellar 3DS game to an already great and only getting better library.
I've been following the lead designer of this game on Twitter for some time now. He's a cool guy and is really passionate about making games. I've been holding out for a Nintendo console release so hopefully it turns out good.
Some of NL's other articles featuring different types of gamers in the past have been rather lackluster, however, this article was great and this man's collection is one worth sharing and writing about. What a great collection Alex! Thank you for sharing it with NL.
Another problem is all the negative publicity on the internet. Sure, they are the vocal minority, but their words reverberate throughout social media and eventually the industry if strong enough. I feel that even if Nintendo were to turn things around there would still be the typical Nintendo hate going on. 70% of the population are idiots, but people still hear them, and it's more likely than not the person who heard the nonsense is an idiot as well. Something has to be done by Nintendo to change this perception, and then something needs to be done by gamers themselves. Whoever thought console wars and hate towards a gaming company was a good idea should be murdered.
Another thing to remember is a lot of the so called "dedicated" Nintendo gamers loved the GameCube, which didn't sell well, and originally loathed the Wii, which sold like hotcakes. Sure, a lot of people came around to liking the Wii, but the question remains, what is the difference? Third-party-support and casual gamer support. Casual gamer support being the major difference in this case. So to those saying "we don't need no FPS!" (don't get me wrong, I too think CoD is terrible and that sports games are a waste of time) but Nintendo needs some of those people to survive in this day and age. More casual gamers = profit = more games we dedicated fans want.
It's tough. Nintendo has made affordable but technically inferior (in most cases) hardware and great software and profited off of both, but they are where they are right now because of that. This mindset and practice was brought about by the great Gunpei Yokoi, creator of the Game Boy. Do they abandon this thought and produce a technically advanced hardware system that they could potentially lose profit over and lay down at the feet of third-party development companies while saying "we're sorry" and "look what we made for you?!"
In my opinion, if Nintendo wants to get back on the right track they need to get the third-party developers back to the NES/SNES days where everyone and anyone WANTED to make games for Nintendo. Perhaps third-parties want more powerful hardware, perhaps they want Nintendo to beg them to make games for their hardware, perhaps it's something else completely. I could make suggestions based off the rumors heard on the internet, but I don't do rumors; I only heed facts. In any case, change is definitely needed on the third-party front.
I love the Wii U, although I wish it had more games, but I also realize Billy next door loves FPSs and Sports games, which the Wii U can't accommodate as well as the PS4 and XB1. It's things like these Nintendo needs to think about. They need to provide for the masses while also giving the most dedicated fans what they want as well. It's sad, to me, because games are such a great medium, but most gamers play shooters and sports games. Nintendo needs to cater to them. 10 years from now the majority of casual gamers might be into some other genre, or a completely new one, and Nintendo will have to cater to them. Staying a step ahead of the casuals will help Nintendo succeed, but there are other things that need to be done as well.
I also realize Billy can't afford every console like I can, or perhaps he's not into gaming as much as I am to even want to purchase every console. Nintendo needs to be the one console that provides every type of game for the gamer, in the quality Nintendo fashion. Obviously they can't do it all themselves, so this goes back to getting back third-party support. Anyhow, a lot needs to be done. This is just a good start, in my opinion.
I'm a HUGE fan of RPGs and Platformers... but not a huge fan of games that combine the two in Unepic's fashion for some reason. It looks like a more than quality game, however. Go buy it already!
It looks fine except for the "pull out controls". That's a terrible idea. And, as someone else mentioned, it doesn't say "Nintendo" when looked at either. Reminds me of an Android based device. EWWW!
I'm really excited for this. Partly because Nintendo kept it secret for so long and then sprung it on us out of nowhere, and partly because the gameplay mechanics in Kirby games have always been some of my favorite in all games. What they do with the 3D in this game looks truly amazing as well!
All you people complaining about this article because you're Christian should just turn the other cheek, right?
Any who, take the time to research how and why this company came about. It's very interesting. For the lazy, here is the short story: Wisdom Tree's parent company, and many other companies, didn't want to have to buy the chips that enabled games to be played on the NES. After engineers at Atari figured out how to bypass this chip companies started to make games that weren't Nintendo certified. There were a lot of restrictions back then, such as third parties could only make 5 games a year, and so on... That's for another day... Nintendo eventually fought back against these companies skirting around their policy and won. Color Dreams, Wisdom Tree's parent company, started Wisdom Tree to make non Nintendo certified religious themed games based on the thoughts that these games would be so non mainstream Nintendo wouldn't bother to take them to court. Nintendo never did, either. Wisdom Tree's games were sold in religious book stores and the like, not in the traditional places one would normally find video games, which helped them remain low key. One thing to note is their games are all rip-offs of other games. Some of them are so similar the code is the exact same with just a few minor cosmetic changes to make the game more religious in nature.
My cousin had Exodus and we used to play that every now and again when we were young, but boy am I glad my parents didn't buy that nonsense. My aunt had some lady telling her video games were bad, BUT, there were some good games out there that taught kids about religion. I'm trying to build a time machine to go back in time and kill that lady before she meets my aunt . What's odd is years later I end up reading about "Wisdom Tree" in college, and I'm one of the only lucky ones to have actually played one of their so-called "games".
I voted yes to all the games you mentioned, although some of the ideas behind them I disagree with. Namely adding Mario to LUIGI'S SERIES!!!! So much no. No. No. Also, if there is going to be an HD Star Fox for Wii U, it better be a full blown game. None of this nonsense multiplayer mess you mention . Multiplayer can and should be an extra in the game, no doubt, but just strictly multiplayer is a bad idea.
This is a damn shame. @ThomasBW84 - Please keep us up to date on this newly formed smaller development company. Two Tribes truly had unique style and originality, and they will certainly be missed.
I think a new Metroid is a given, and applying that style to a 3DS Metroid similar to Super Metroid on SNES would be a grand idea. However, Star Fox needs to go in a new and bold direction. Star Fox has some of the greatest potential out of any Nintendo IP, in my opinion. The setting is in SPACE, after all. SPACE!!!!
@DarkKirby (Perhaps you know this, but just a quick refresher) 2d Platformers went away for a while years back and fans started clamoring for new ones after what seemed like an extended hiatus. This is when Nintendo busted out the "New Super Mario Bros." series, and the rest, as they say, is history. The platformer genre holds some of my favorite games ever, but I tend to agree with you here. Too many of them gets tiring, and while I am looking forward to Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, my excitement isn't as high as it could be due to this.
If it would have been a new 3D DK? I'd be going bananas.
I want Castelvania on Nintendo consoles if and only if they go back to the tried and true Metroidvania formula. The "Lords of Shadow" series is pretty terrible, in my and my opinion only, in that it is basically a rip off of action games such as God of War. I'd also be ok with Konami moving in a new direction with something on the Wii U.
I hadn't spent my coins in forever before picking up the Zelda poster set, but luckily I had a boatload of coins saved up over the last year or two and still had enough to get this.
I'm loving Gran Turismo 6 on PS3 right now, but by the time this comes out I'll be long done with that. I'll be buying this for sure unless the quality is horrible, but I doubt it will be bad. This developer knows what they are doing. They've got the right mindset and the talent to back that up.
@Gamecube5f Whoa. Simmer down pal. Your launch system is still under warranty, like others have stated, and even if it's not Nintendo will fix it for $50 at most. You didn't need to go out and buy a new console, so blame that on yourself and your need to play NOW! Speaking of NOW! Give people some time to answer you before you go spouting all that nonsense about how nobody here can help you. Be kind and patient and people would be more eager to help you. In all honesty, good luck with your situation. Hopefully everything gets taken care of for you!
I have two as well. One for family and friends and the other for MEEEEEE!!!! and only me. Get your grubby paws off my GamePad already!
If gamers (see: fanboys and girls) had the same outlook as Yoshida-san it'd be a nicer gaming world. In reality every console, home and handheld, is good for gaming, as are PC, smartphones, and tablets. That's simply a Kirby's dream land, however. Some people are just plain stupid and will argue to no end even when it's not a valid argument. What you like or dislike is... wait for it... your opinion. Got that? Good.
Oh, I also own 2 PS3's and will be getting a PS4 sooner than later. Take that haters!
Gimme gimme gimme that lovely turn-based menu battle system in more JRPG's please!!!!!! I don't mind action styled RPG's, but good old turn and menu based combat has been getting the cold shoulder lately. I'm not saying it's better, as that comes down to preferece and opinion, but it does allow for a more tactical approach. I enjoyed "The Four Heroes of Light" quite a bit, and I have a feeling this is going to be a lot better than that even.
I'll be playing some Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. I also plan on starting another run in Super Mario 3D World, this time with Toad or Peach, not sure. I'm also restarting Persona 4 Golden. I just feel lucky to be playing some great games, perhaps some of the best ever made, right now. I might play a few levels in The Wonderful 101 as well.
@X-Factor @sinalefa - It's weird that they're fat at all! Mario and Luigi aren't really fat in their more recent games. I guess all that platforming, ghost hunting, kart racing, soccer, baseball, etc... really paid off.
This very well could be a PR stunt, no doubt, but Chrissy is in fact a big Nintendo fan. She plays and enjoys a lot of video games, especially Mario and Animal Crossing, so her fandom is not fake. She's actually a really cool girl, especially considering the typical model personality.

@ThomasBW84 - Please keep us up to date on this newly formed smaller development company. Two Tribes truly had unique style and originality, and they will certainly be missed.
Re: Nintendo Open To Applying Zelda: Link Between Worlds Approach To Other Franchises
SPACE!!!!
Re: Kensuke Tanabe Highlights Potential Return of 3D Donkey Kong Games
Re: Talking Point: Is The Castlevania Series Finished With Nintendo?
I want Castelvania on Nintendo consoles if and only if they go back to the tried and true Metroidvania formula. The "Lords of Shadow" series is pretty terrible, in my and my opinion only, in that it is basically a rip off of action games such as God of War. I'd also be ok with Konami moving in a new direction with something on the Wii U.
Re: Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon Figurine Spooked Off Club Nintendo
I hadn't spent my coins in forever before picking up the Zelda poster set, but luckily I had a boatload of coins saved up over the last year or two and still had enough to get this.
Re: Round Table: Let's Talk About Nintendo in 2013 - 3DS
@Squidzilla Nope. I have strong Irish roots. We can be acquaintances.
Re: Round Table: Let's Talk About Nintendo in 2013 - 3DS
Conor: Irish graduate as in THE Notre Dame University? If so - You're my new best friend.
Re: Do You Want This Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles-Themed NES? It'll Cost You A Pretty Penny
Those NES gamepads are rad!
Re: Wii U "More Than Capable" Of Providing The Core Project CARS Experience, Says Developer
I'm loving Gran Turismo 6 on PS3 right now, but by the time this comes out I'll be long done with that. I'll be buying this for sure unless the quality is horrible, but I doubt it will be bad. This developer knows what they are doing. They've got the right mindset and the talent to back that up.
Re: GamePad High Capacity Battery Now Available in North America
@Gamecube5f Whoa. Simmer down pal. Your launch system is still under warranty, like others have stated, and even if it's not Nintendo will fix it for $50 at most. You didn't need to go out and buy a new console, so blame that on yourself and your need to play NOW! Speaking of NOW! Give people some time to answer you before you go spouting all that nonsense about how nobody here can help you. Be kind and patient and people would be more eager to help you. In all honesty, good luck with your situation. Hopefully everything gets taken care of for you!
Re: Review: 3D Streets of Rage (3DS eShop)
@KeeperBvK Right? I'd say that's more obvious than funny. Was his/her comment even necessary? Let me answer that: No.
Re: Sony's President of Worldwide Studios Actually Has Two Wii U Systems
Re: Nintendo Download: 19th December (North America)
Yesterday's NES Remix is all I'll be buying this week.
Re: This Year of Luigi Diorama Brings a Dark Moon to Club Nintendo
Holy coins, Batman! I'm only 140 short, however. Hmmmm. Dare I open my parents Christmas gift and register it on Club Nintendo? Yes. I dare.
Re: Nintendo Direct Focusing On Wii U And 3DS Games Coming Spring 2014 To Air Tomorrow
Dear Nintendo;
Please please please give us Westerners DQ VII on 3DS!!! Pretty please? Also, more great Wii U games are always wanted and appreciated.
Love,
Elvin Gadd
Re: Video: Nintendo Teases Footage Of Wii Sports Club: Golf In Full Swing
You MUST WEAR MOCCASINS while playing Wii Sports Golf I guess.
Re: Video: The Latest Bravely Default Trailer Sets the Tone
Gimme gimme gimme that lovely turn-based menu battle system in more JRPG's please!!!!!! I don't mind action styled RPG's, but good old turn and menu based combat has been getting the cold shoulder lately. I'm not saying it's better, as that comes down to preferece and opinion, but it does allow for a more tactical approach. I enjoyed "The Four Heroes of Light" quite a bit, and I have a feeling this is going to be a lot better than that even.
Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Twenty
Re: Review: Bravely Default (3DS)
I hate you EU a-holes! lol jk. I love you. I do wish that this game was released here in the US right now, however.
Re: Weirdness: Model Chrissy Teigen Celebrates a Mushroom Kingdom Birthday
@X-Factor @sinalefa - It's weird that they're fat at all! Mario and Luigi aren't really fat in their more recent games. I guess all that platforming, ghost hunting, kart racing, soccer, baseball, etc... really paid off.
Re: Weirdness: Model Chrissy Teigen Celebrates a Mushroom Kingdom Birthday
This very well could be a PR stunt, no doubt, but Chrissy is in fact a big Nintendo fan. She plays and enjoys a lot of video games, especially Mario and Animal Crossing, so her fandom is not fake. She's actually a really cool girl, especially considering the typical model personality.
How do I know this? Wouldn't you like to know.
