Re: Sega's Sonic Team On Memes: "We Like That People Are Having Fun"

Pastellioli

Well, I think their social media accounts have been sort of meme-y and comedic for a while now (which I love, it just shows a lot of personality) so they have been pretty cool with a majority of the memes people have made for years. I have seen them use this pretty cool and funny Sonic puppet in some of their Instagram reels.

I just love the approach Sega has toward its fans and fanmade projects. They seem very understanding of how much passion and love their fans have toward their properties and characters.

Re: Nintendo Is Expanding Switch Online's NES Library With Another Classic

Pastellioli

Was a bit surprised with some NSO news in the Direct, though I was sort of expecting a bigger game drop since it’s been a few months since the last ones, especially N64. But, any game coming to NSO is good, since it’s adding more content to the service and making it more worth it! Hopefully there’s an N64 drop next month or in October. I’ll be happy with any update to the legacy services!

Re: Sonic The Hedgehog 3 Movie Trailer Finally Reveals Keanu Reeves' Shadow

Pastellioli

So excited! Looks like a great mash of silly and serious. I think this has the chance to be the best out of the three films, so let’s hope this is good. December can’t come soon enough!

Though, I do think from what was shown in the trailer, it appears to have a bit less elements of the Adventure games, and it honestly looked like they took more elements from that Shadow the Hedgehog game. Not complaining though! Just as long as the film is good.

Re: Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp To End Online Service In November

Pastellioli

I haven’t played this in years since I deleted it off my phone, but it’s surprising they are shutting servers down now cuz I never hear about this game anymore.

However, it does make me happy to see that they are releasing an offline version to make the game still playable. Almost every time online games and apps shut services down they are rendered permanently unplayable and all player progress is gone, so this is a good thing to see, and I wish more game developers did this with their defunct games. I think I maybe only seen this happen once for another game. If only they did that for Miitomo too…

Re: Talking Point: Would $499 Be Too Much For 'Switch 2'?

Pastellioli

Well, I think that the strength of the hardware and the features it has need to justify the price, like high specs, backwards compatibility, and good frame rate. If it isn’t super strong or doesn’t have a lot of wanted features, then no, I think $500 would be way too much. Something within the $400 range would be probably better, as those are the prices for other consoles currently on the market (PS5 and Xbox Series X) but because we don’t know what the “Switch 2” will be yet or if it will be close to the Switch with appearance, gimmicks, features and strength, I think it’s hard to tell what price tag they will attach to it.

Re: Atsuko Tanaka, The Japanese Voice Of Bayonetta, Has Passed Away

Pastellioli

I never played the Bayonetta games, but I was a bit familiar with her name, as I remember that I would randomly watch clips of an anime called JoJo years ago when I was obsessed with it, and she was in that, plus a fighting video game that was based on it that I played a bit on the Xbox. She did some splendid voice work from the clips I saw. May she rest in peace.

Re: Mailbox: The Mario RPG-naissance, Xenosaga Sadness, Golden Days - Nintendo Life Letters

Pastellioli

Wanted to say thanks for including my letter! Spammy McSpammer will be my new legal name now lol.

I do definitely agree that game editions are super prominent and almost everywhere nowadays. Of course they did exist before, but weren’t marketed or pushed a ton. There are many plausible and obvious reasons for why a game is given a million different game editions, like a way to generate more money, but some people have pointed out it seems to be from FOMO (fear of missing out), if the game edition includes some extras or goodies that might generate that, especially if it’s limited edition, or if the items included with the game are for a limited time and never reproduced again when stock runs out. It could also be the rise of monetization with games, and the game company in question may want a similar way of doing that with their game. Personally, I don’t really mind multiple game editions, also cuz it’s optional to buy, and as long as a standard edition of the game is still available to purchase, plus I think some of the goodies that come with a few editions are really cool. I remember my dad bought this edition of Horizon Zero Dawn, and I may not remember all of what he got, but I recall he got an art book and a nice statue of Aloy, and I remember it being awesome. The goodies were high quality too. I wouldn’t buy a special game edition with extra items (collecting and getting extra items isn’t my thing) but some come with nice items, and of course some game editions are done better than others and feel less money-grabbing than others.

Also, heck yeah, more N64 NSO games please. I’ll be fine with any game since the N64 one is still too small. Hopefully they can add in some of those titles listed in the letter and a few of the bigger N64 games to go alongside those, and hopefully before the Switch starts getting phased out and eventually replaced with the Switch’s successor. I’m sure you can tell from my avatar which N64 game I really want the most on there… I really want a drop of games later this month or next month, and if they do that, I think the next drop afterward should be in November or December. Let’s hope that they do that and make the N64 NSO apps filled with lots of more games!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (17th August)

Pastellioli

Still been playing the same old games, but I’ll write a bit about them anyway:

Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage! (Mobile) - Still playing this. I came back to it after not playing for a week and I have been getting more rewards from full combo-ing some new songs in the game on Expert difficulty and unlocking a few Master charts. I tried a few of the new Master charts for fun, though I unsurprisingly screwed up a ton playing those. I have about three more songs left to play, so I’ll get onto those this weekend. I have replayed some of the harder songs on Expert, and although I still haven’t been able to full combo them, I’ve gotten higher scores on them and was able to hold combos for longer! The harder songs have really fun charts, even though they are pure heck to play through.

Rare Replay (Xbox) - I have been achievement hunting a bit on the game to unlock more content in the game. I got most of the achievements from doing these snapshot challenges for the pre-N64 and Xbox games, but a lot of the older games are pretty awful to play and make completing the challenges a bit hard, paired with some having really, really BAD controls. The only one I found to be super easy and fun when getting the snapshots was Battletoads Arcade, and the worst if you are wondering was Underwurlde thanks to the character you play as having awful jumping and there being enemies scattered all over the place. I am considering playing through all the older games to get more easy achievements, but I don’t think I will since they are extremely confusing and require lots of trial and error. I’m not going to force myself to play games I don’t like. I also did some playlist challenges with the older games and surprisingly managed to complete two of them. I am trying to complete the other playlist challenges, but they are way too hard for me to do and I give up on playing those at this point

Also, I forgot to post this update on the last “What Are You Playing This Weekend?” article but I also completed my playthrough of Conker’s Bad Fur Day in Rare Replay a week or so ago. Funny writing and charming characters, but I forgot how awful the gameplay gets.

Anyway, hope you all have a good and fun weekend! Hope that you and your families are safe

Re: Critically-Panned 'Borderlands' Movie Flops At The Box Office

Pastellioli

@Mana_Knight I did know about this movie already years ago, but I’m sure all I heard of it in recent times was the movie being reshot and rewritten and I only got a SINGLE trailer for it. Just a single one. The marketing on this movie just seems really poor, and everyone was expecting it to be awful from the start…

Re: Rachael Lillis, Voice Actor For Pokémon's Misty And Jessie, Has Passed Away

Pastellioli

Ugh, this is so heartbreaking. I watched the dubbed anime a lot when I was younger, and she was definitely one of the highlights of the show. Team Rocket was absolutely one of the best parts of the dub. I know that 4Kids anime dubs aren’t seen as amazing, but their dub of Pokémon was so silly and iconic I’d say. Cancer seems so scary, and I fear that me or anyone I’m close to will get it in the future, just hearing the pain so many people go through when they have it is so sad…May she rest in peace…

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (3rd August)

Pastellioli

Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage! (Mobile) - Still playing this. I’ve gotten newer high scores on some of the more harder songs and have gotten more rewards as a result. There’s still a few more available songs I need to play soon and get higher scores on, plus there are more songs releasing this month, but I’ll get onto those later.

Conker’s Bad Fur Day (N64 and Xbox) - I’ve been playing this for a few days on the Xbox via Rare Replay, since Pure Xbox’s game club voted on the game for this month. Nearly done with my second playthrough and I’m currently on the Its War chapter, though that one is going to be so frustrating to complete thanks to its difficulty being higher and the game being pretty slow during the shooting segments. Love the game a ton, absolutely a favorite of mine, but its gameplay (mostly the shooting gameplay) and some of the level design is a bit poor and the silly writing and charming characters overshadow it significantly. I might be able to complete the game again today, but I don’t plan on doing a third playthrough afterward. I think I should have played the remake instead to save some frustration with the controls, but I sort of don’t like a bit of the censoring on that one and I prefer the cartoony look of the original.

If you are curious as to what part of the game I didn’t like the most in terms of level design, it’s this prehistoric-themed level called Uga Buga. It’s laden with so many awful and poorly done objectives that are either slow or hard to complete, especially this racing minigame that gets thrown in near the end that is so random and annoying.

Re: Iconic Publication Game Informer Is Closing Down After 33 Years

Pastellioli

I remember my dad having so many of these magazines around the house and I read them. I think the rise of digital media is one of the factors in why the magazine is going away forever, since it’s just more convenient and easy to search up gaming news and game reviews online with just a quick Google search, but I also think greedy leadership who want more money and don’t care about their workers is also another factor in why Game Informer is going away. It’s really sad to see physical media get phased out and replaced with digital media. It would feel so weird if everything was just digital and not a mix of physical and digital.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (27th July)

Pastellioli

I’ve been playing Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage! on my phone alongside a few of the games I am already playing. It’s a pretty fun and addicting rhythm game that I’ve been playing for nearly two years, and it has a pretty great selection of Japanese music and fun gameplay, though the tapping registration is awful at times and the game lags and interrupts gameplay. I’ve been trying to get higher scores and full combos on a few new songs on there since I hadn’t been playing it recently. I play on Expert mode (which is one of the harder difficulty levels) but there are easier difficulty levels you can play on, so even beginners and casual players can enjoy the game too. Though, if you are going to play it, get the Japanese version if you can, cuz the English version isn’t up to date with the Japanese version and lacks some songs and content.

For what I’ll be playing next, I’ll be playing Conker’s Bad Fur Day via Rare Replay on the Xbox since a game club I’m apart of is going to be playing that throughout August. Pretty excited to revisit it again.

Re: AI Generator Scraped YouTube Videos Without Permission, Including Nintendo's

Pastellioli

@DotNet Oh, I do get it a bit more now. Don’t apologize for ranting, we are here to discuss opinions and views that is what this comments section is for!

You are right about it being super easy to find negatives in a lot of stuff, plus given that I’m a really negative person, it doesn’t help at all. I am not against inspiration, and my art is heavily inspired by various other artists I look up to, and I sometimes reference it to help with my visions and stuff, or to get a drawing to look a way I want it to that I can’t imagine well enough. It encourages me to get a pencil and paper and start drawing, and I think inspiration is very great for that reason.

AI being illegal doesn’t really cross my mind at all despite how strongly I dislike it being used for art and writing, I think it’s really considered that because it takes artwork from the internet for its pictures, and rarely do I actually see people use stolen art and AI art illegally. Of course, it can be mishandled and used in ways that are absolutely illegal, but like you said, it’s mostly the way the person chooses to use it. I wouldn’t say AI is illegal, or that it should be illegal, cuz AI can be helpful. I really think it’s wrong when it steals content and work from creative minds without credit or permission to train models, or is being used to cause problems. When I used to use AI, I only used it for inspiration for my art and I would modify the drawings I made by adding in some ideas I had for it. I never took the pictures and claimed “I made this!” AI is pretty good with inspiration, though I think because it takes artwork from the internet and doesn’t credit the sources, I think the artwork that is drawing inspiration from the generator should have some things changed and differentiated a bit to avoid having the work closely resemble the AI picture. I do think I am coming off as hypocritical during some points of my opinion.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me. I really like to come onto these sites and getting to see both sides of topics like these, and opinions like yours really widen my views and perspectives.

Re: AI Generator Scraped YouTube Videos Without Permission, Including Nintendo's

Pastellioli

@DotNet Thank you for your response. It interesting to see your opinion and side, and it does widen my perspective a bit more.

I do think that AI can be beneficial and can help with a ton of stuff, and everything can have a bad side, but it just seems that stuff like this with AI always pops unfortunately, and it seems to get mishandled too frequently. I do think AI can help with some things in the creative field, but I just really prefer it to not be used to make creative works like art and writing, since it sometimes just appears soulless to me and doesn’t seem full of heart or effort at all. If I recall, it takes multiple images and artwork off the internet and uses them to make images, which is my main issue with using it since I see it sort of as stealing.

Back when AI image generators had an influx in popularity about two years ago, I did use to use it to generate pictures I wanted that I could draw, but I now feel dirty over doing it since I eventually found out that AI generators take a bunch of images off the internet and I could have been stealing some people’s ideas without knowing. I don’t expect AI to replace artists permanently or anytime soon, but I’ve heard too many stories online of AI art generators causing problems for artists, plus a ton of skilled artists online almost always get accused of using AI even when they are obviously against it and they have no choice but to post speedpaints as evidence so they can stop getting accused, but for some it isn’t even enough evidence. I just think that even though AI can have a good and bad side with the creative field, it’s caused too much damage to artists, plus, in the US, there is no way for me to opt out and tell Meta that I don’t want my art used for their AI, so I’m pretty much forced to comply with it whether I like it or not. I just sometimes feel that it can be hard for me to find positives in AI-generated art because of stuff like this.

Re: AI Generator Scraped YouTube Videos Without Permission, Including Nintendo's

Pastellioli

Ugh, I’ve always heard of stories like this a ton of companies taking copyrighted media and videos to train their AI models. AI is so bad when it comes to the creative space and art, and it just seems like that some people and companies are actively trying to make sure that actual artists become redundant and that everything is produced and made by a soulless machine instead. Instagram I believe has been taking artwork by so many artists without permission and using them to train their AI, and some people I think never had the option to opt out of it, which is just so bad. AI can be helpful, but it’s just misused and mishandled with stuff like this and it sometimes becomes harmful.

Also, can’t stuff like this possibly get people and other companies into legal troubles? Why do stuff like this if that’ll happen to you?

Re: Nintendo Strips Team Jackpot Of Splatoon 3 World Championship Win

Pastellioli

I just wish that the world would be nicer to each other, but unfortunately it doesn’t seem to happen.

Everyone forgets normal etiquette too frequently, and there are so many things that influence that, like some of the pop culture media we consume (like movies and shows, especially ones that focus on being super crass) and social media, the latter where you can pretty much have no consequences to what you say, including hateful and racist comments, which just makes people believe that they have the freedom to spout awful nonsense, and the lack of moderation on some sites just makes the issue worse. I cannot tell you how many questionable, rude and racist comments I have come across on Instagram posts and reels, and never have I ever really seen anyone on there get the consequences served to them thanks to the app having garbage moderation and there being a huge amount of vulgar people on there that seems to overpower the kinder people, and I can’t imagine how much worse Twitter/X is. It also pretty much just normalizes vulgar and offensive behavior and will make them think that what they are saying and doing is fine, but some people do know full well that what they are doing and acting like is wrong and want to get away with it, which just makes it worse, and I’m assuming these guys are like that. Almost every single person I’ve seen be racist is fully aware of their bad behavior and is almost never sorry when they get caught for it. They are only sorry because they don’t want to get caught and still want to be able to say anything they want. Basically, it’s just an unapologetic apology.

I think free speech is good and is very important, and everyone should be free to express opinions on anything they want. However, hate speech is harmful and should not be allowed, as it of course just allows bad behaviors that encourage inequality between groups of people, but who am I kidding? People like these idiots who express this kind of racist hate speech and slurs almost never choose to stop and they always want to keep getting away with saying the same vulgar and nasty opinions and rhetoric and not improving upon themselves as people or increasing their empathy.

Also, even though this is the first time I have heard of this company, cybersecurity attacks are something I fear so much, and it makes me so anxious hearing stories like these and so much valuable info becoming available online…sometimes even if you are super careful online and take a lot of precautions and secure accounts to the best of your ability, it unfortunately doesn’t make you immune to stuff like this…I’m sorry for those that were affected.

Re: Japanese Charts: Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown Gets Off To A Flying Start

Nice to see Smash Bros. on the top ten, it’s such an amazing game and definitely one everyone should play, so seeing people are still purchasing copies of it after all the updates makes me happy! Unsurprising seeing Mario Kart is up so high, cuz I’m also sure that the game has gotten up high in the top ten about a million times before lol

Re: Nintendo Emulator 'Delta' Adds iPad Support With Version 1.6 Update

Pastellioli

I only use Delta for games that have not been re-released as of late or have no modern means to buy and play them on new hardware. I've only been using it for Diddy Kong Racing and I am going to play some of Rare's Game Boy Color and Advance games since all of those have never gotten modern releases. To add, the discs and cartridges of these older games without modern re-releases are super expensive to buy nowadays alongside the discontinued consoles they released on, usually from high demand or scalpers, and unfortunately not within my budget.

I stray far away from emulating older games that can still be purchased, like the N64 games included in Rare Replay and the games included in the NSO libraries. Emulators aren't illegal, as long as you aren't using them to emulate games that can still be purchased on modern platforms or trying to make money off of them (looking at you Yuzu)

Re: Mailbox: eShop Closures, Comedy, The Physical Future - Nintendo Life Letters

Pastellioli

@OctolingKing13 That is true. I also think stuff like price inflation plays a role in that. With the time we live in where necessities have gotten expensive thanks to inflation and whatnot, we can't go to the store and go buy a gaming console just to play a specific game or exclusive and have to stick to the consoles that we already have, which is why some people wait and see if the game they want to play will come to their console of choice. I also think it could be to preference too.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (13th July)

Pastellioli

Cannot believe I am late to this again! My game list changed again, so here it is:

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Switch): I played this game again recently, got a few online matches in, and have been having a huge blast with it. I haven't been able to add more spirits to my nearly finished collection since I haven't seen any new ones pop up on the spirit board, but that's ok! Despite the game being complete and no longer being updated with content, I will never get tired of it, and it will always be the best fighting game I have ever played.

Conker: Live and Reloaded (Xbox): Despite already completing the N64 version and the remake (which is this version) I think about the games so much since they are special to me. I replayed a few parts of Live and Reloaded, and although the remake is considered worse than the N64 version since Live and Reloaded is more censored and downgrades a few small things from the original (like the facial expressions being stiffer and the different goofy multiplayer modes being replaced with a single third-person shooter mode altogether), I think a lot of those criticisms are small. I prefer the remake because it's more playable and has a better control scheme that is more closer to modern controls, not to mention it has nice graphics that are impressive for the console and time it was released in. Although I loved Bad Fur Day, I had a hard time replaying it recently since the controls are janky, the shooting gameplay is slow, and the camera is so awful and won't move at certain points, which makes parts of the game harder, especially in the War chapter near the end since it requires you to stay alert and use guns for almost the entire time, so I always go to the remake instead. I am a part of a game club on Nintendo Life's sister site Pure Xbox, and there we are supposed to play Bad Fur Day and its remake at one point, so when we get onto that, I'll do a second full playthrough of it. I really cannot get enough of that drunk red squirrel for some reason.

Perfect Dark Zero (Xbox): I already completed this, but I recently tried out the two-player cooperative mode with my brother for fun and it was pretty fun, though I am realizing how sort of poorly designed and confusing the first level is. The cheesiness of the game is probably one of the best parts of it aside from the improved gameplay and mechanics.

EDIT: I'll also add Rare Replay (Xbox): Even almost a decade after its release, this is maybe the best video game collection I've ever seen. It has so much effort put into it to make it as charming and fun as possible, and I wish game developers and companies would put the same amount of effort into the game collections they make. I replayed a few of the games on there such as Battletoads Arcade and completed some of the snapshot challenges to fill up my stamp card, and I recently got an upgraded one. I also tried to complete a game called Snake Rattle 'n' Roll since I've been stuck on the final boss but I still can't finish it. Still pertaining to the game, I watched a few of the short documentary videos included in Rare Replay this morning and I find the ones talking about the development history of some of Rare's games to be the most interesting, especially the one for Conker's Bad Fur Day.

Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's GBA Library With Three More Titles

Pastellioli

Wow, NSO is picking things up! This is what I like to see; monthly updates to their classic game libraries! The only issue I had with the service was them taking months and months to add titles and going radio silent most of the time. I don't have the Expansion Pack, but this makes me very happy to see a once heavily disliked service getting better over time.

Although it was only maybe almost a month or a few weeks ago, I am hoping they do another batch of N64 games soon, possibly in August, which I am guessing from what I saw with the N64 release schedule. I really want to see more titles on the 17+ N64 app soon since there are only two on there so far and it lacks other essential titles. If they add more on there, I might reconsider getting it again.

Re: Soapbox: Has Nintendo Set A Precedent That 'Switch 2' Can't Hope To Match?

Pastellioli

I do think that the successor could definitely improve upon the Switch and could possibly do some things better than it (e.g. backwards compatibility, running games better, etc) but I think it would be super hard to surpass the Switch’s sales, plus I have a feeling that a lot of people are going to stick to the Switch for a tad bit longer when their next console releases possibly next year, not to mention that some casual gamers (including me) don’t really think a ton about console power or the hardware aspects, so even if the next console has a better performance, I wouldn’t expect most casual gamers to buy and swap to the Switch’s successor immediately. A couple of the games I play on the Switch perform fine in my opinion, so I’ll likely stick to it even when the “Switch 2” is on the market.

However, I do not expect the new console to be a failure or sell poorly. I think it’ll still get good sales, but not near the amount the Switch has sold. Though, it does feel a bit too early to be predicting what sales numbers the “Switch 2” will yield, given we don’t know anything about it yet beyond its existence or if it’ll even be a similar or stronger version of the Switch.

Re: Random: Sakurai Explains How Manga Influenced Smash Ultimate's Character Designs

Pastellioli

I honestly love media that makes its characters very expressive. It really brings out a lot of charm and personality for the characters, though American and Western cartoons and media have pretty good facial expressions like anime and manga do, and a couple of media and video games come to mind for me. I love the way the Donkey Kong characters and Banjo & Kazooie’s faces are animated in the game, since they manage to look cartoony and exaggerated but somewhat anime-ish and still fit the art style of the game, especially the latter because of them both having big eyes, which is pretty common to give characters in a lot of anime and manga.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (6th July)

Pastellioli

@Zuljaras Oil pastels are pretty messy and they smudge around the page a lot, which is something I am not a fan of since it dirties a ton of my drawings, plus my drawing desk has a bunch of pigments from them. However, they are a dry medium, so they do not dry and become solid like paint and you can take your time with them. But again, way too messy.

Re: Soapbox: How Does Your Personality Affect Your Gaming?

Pastellioli

@SuperBro64 I still haven’t tried to complete the race and while I do think it would be nice if I did get a 100% on it, I think I shouldn’t feed into my perfectionist mindset further since I think it’ll make me more upset if I can’t get it on my first try. When I was unable to finish the race a few years ago, I think I got too obsessive and tried to find turbo controllers online for my Xbox (since I heard that one of the ways to complete the race is by having a turbo controller) but I didn’t buy any and so I left the race alone. People say that the way to finish the race without a turbo controller is by avoiding getting in front of the AI in the beginning of the race and then gaining speed right at the end to win, but I don’t know how well that will work. It still does slightly bother me that I wasn’t able to get a 100% in Tooie like I was able to in Kazooie, but oh well. I think I should just appreciate the fact that I was able to nearly 100% it.

Re: Soapbox: How Does Your Personality Affect Your Gaming?

Pastellioli

Hm, haven’t thought about that before! Great soapbox.

When I play games, I really like to play them for fun and to make me happy, since I tend to be very negative and have a very bad self-esteem, and I just want to get lost in some of the worlds the games have. I am open to playing a lot of games of different genres and trying to find the positives in them all, even if the game does stink in certain aspects. I had a ton of fun with games that have been considered disappointing by others, like Perfect Dark Zero, which I thought had solid gunplay but I also liked it from how stupidly cheesy it was.

However, I am sort of a perfectionist when I play a few games since I am very obsessive (thanks, disorder) so depending on the game, if I can’t get things entirely right in the game, I get pretty frustrated and keep retrying over and over again and waste time, but if I still can’t get it, then I just get really angry at the game and it never helps me. That happened with me recently when I was playing a rhythm game since I could not get a full combo on a song, and usually I am able to full combo songs in that game with no issues. I also feel compelled to get a 100% completion on a few games I have played, for example, Rare’s platformers, and I remember being so bothered that I didn’t 100% Banjo-Tooie because of this race near the end of the game where the AI pretty much cheats the entire time. I finished it with 89 jigsaws out of 90, so being one jigsaw off really bugged me. It’s pretty difficult for me to not break out of the perfectionist mindset since I’ve gotten too used to it, and it honestly makes gaming all the more frustrating.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (6th July)

Pastellioli

Now that I finally got the Switch back, I am going to go back to playing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which I’d say is the best fighting game I’ve ever played. I was pretty obsessed with the game for some time a few years ago, and I am now just starting to get back into it after playing my Xbox for so long. Smash is just so polished and fun, and even a few years later I am still amazed with how big and crazy the game got over time with its content and roster, as well as all the time, effort and dedication the developers put in to make it the best and most grandest version of Smash yet. I’ll honestly never get tired of this game ever, it’s so fun and it never gets dull, and it makes me really curious what direction the next game in the series will go in and if it can top Ultimate. I played a few online matches with some people yesterday and it was so fun, so I’m probably going to do that again.

While I am playing the game, I’m also going to try and see if I can get a mostly complete spirit collection, since I think some of the final updates for the game added in spirits. I recently got three new ones, and my spirit collection is currently 1510 out of 1517, so I’m getting pretty close to finishing it. I actually really love collecting spirits in the game despite how much some people find them to be a disappointing replacement for trophies, and most of the progress I did with the spirit collection was when I was super into playing it a few years back.

Hope you all have a safe and fun weekend full of gaming! 😀

Re: Random: Finished With Your Old GameCube? Why Not Turn It Into A Cereal Bowl?

Pastellioli

It sort of seems funny at first and I did giggle a bit,, but I honestly wouldn’t do that to an old console, even if it was broken…i think I’ll just stick to plain ceramic bowls. There is no way in heck I’d douse the insides of an old console in milk and cereal bits. I also think it would be hard to clean if you were to eat out of it like an ordinary bowl.

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Nervous To Replay In Case They Don't Hold Up?

Pastellioli

I am not scared of replaying it and I still go back to playing it, but it’d probably be Conker’s Bad Fur Day. I remember only having slight issues with it when I played it for the first time last year and not minding the controls, but the remake having improved controls and better gameplay have pretty much made the original sometimes a bit tough to get back to. I’d even say that if you play the remake for too long (which I did) it makes the controls for Bad Fur Day increasingly worse and more noticeable if you get used to the newer controls the remake has. Not a lot of people bring up the controls for Bad Fur Day, though I think that could also be because of how much more focused the game is on its characters, dialogue and writing, which is definitely one of the game’s strengths.

I play a ton of old games, so I don’t really think about this question a lot and I do somewhat get used to the old control schemes since the games are from a different decade and so play somewhat differently compared to modern games. I never am nervous or scared when going to replay old games I love, nor is there anything that stops me from doing so. I still love playing a lot of old games and that will never change.

Re: Feature: 54 Switch Ports We'd Love To See Before The Generation's Out

Kirby’s Epic Yarn would be awesome to see, as I remember playing it but my memory can’t recall a bunch of it.. A bit surprising it never got a port, since they seem to be porting more Wii games now.

For me, Tomodachi Life, which seemed to be a very plausible for Nintendo to port, but years later nearing the end of the Switch’s lifespan, it still hasn’t happened yet and I unfortunately feel like it won’t happen at this point. That game was so random and dang stupid and I loved it. If NSO counts, I would absolutely LOVE to see ports of Conker’s Bad Fur Day and Diddy Kong Racing. The former is extremely likely now that there is an 17+ N64 app and the latter does not have an official modern release and is super hard to play emulated without a proper controller.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (29th June)

Dang it, I came a bit too late, but here is what I am playing;

Perfect Dark Zero: I finished the Xbox remaster of the first Perfect Dark earlier this week and started its prequel Zero not too long ago. I think the game is good so far, even if it is more cheesier than the first game. The new mechanics Zero introduces are so helpful and are ones that I would have liked in the first game; while I did like the first one, I had issues with its gun aiming, layout and how confusing it got at times, so I feel Zero does it better in this aspect. I know some people will come for my head given a ton of people really hated this game.

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts: I did play this last year, but never finished it and dropped it, and it wasn’t until this year I decided to go back to it. I have the intention of beating it at some point. However, it is a bit hard for me to get used to riding vehicles and the new building mechanics after getting so used to the platforming in the N64 Banjo games, and I am so bad at building vehicles. You can walk around on foot and not use vehicles, but if I’m being honest, the game feels worse that way as it is intended to be played and finished with vehicles. Apparently I have to treat the game as more of a sandbox game rather than a traditional platforming game and explore a bunch to get the most out of it. A fellow I talk to said it would be best to play and finish Zero first before playing more of Nuts and Bolts, so I don’t know how long I’ll be playing this.

Re: Yes, Beyond Good And Evil 2 Is Still In Development

I’ve never played the original, but what the heck is happening with this game? It just seems like it’s never going to see the light of day because of the lack of significant updates, development issues that have been reported on the game, and the original director leaving alongside its creative director unfortunately passing.

I don’t even think it seems to be an actual sequel, since it’s going to be a prequel and not an actual follow-up to the original.
