I tried the demo and the input lag was really bad even in the super simplistic tutorial area. Since that's how it felt in a "best case scenario", performance-wise, I knew I wouldn't enjoy the full game either.
It's surprising to hear it's the same on PS5. I might try the PC demo to see if it's any better. If not it's a hard pass.
What if you provide a better service instead so that 12 months feels worth it on its own? Multiplayer in europe is still an absolute crapshoot and almost always p2p anyway, so what’s the value in it for me? Buy 12 get 2 free is admitting the product isn’t selling well on its own merits.
And to preempt the inevitable “it’s a you problem”: I have a wired ethernet connection, I have 1 gigabit point-to-point fibre (traffic directly to terminal, not shared by other connections), 2ms ping to my AWS servers in Ireland, from Norway. It’s not a “me” problem.
@CaptainQuo Are you replying to the wrong person? I haven't edited a single one of my comments on this article. When I do edit comments it's only to correct mistakes, not alter the comment itself as that breaks the flow of discourse. If I do add info at a later point I'd highlight it at the end of the comment in a separate paragraph.
@jfp If you check my profile you'll see I don't comment much at all. I've also made technical comments, not just "complaining". I wasn't aware only making positive comments was a prerequisite to post here; where in the rules is that specified?
You're right though, complaining is a waste of time. But sometimes I want to let other people like myself — whom usually don't comment — know that not everyone is positive about this stuff. Because that's important too. You're free to spend your money on whatever you want, and I'm free to not when I don't think it's a good deal. And I'm free to share that counterview. That makes an online forum healthy. An echo chamber would serve nobody but Nintendo's shareholders.
@jfp Then why is Pokemon Z-A $10 more on Switch 2 when all you get is a resolution boost and a framerate bump? The game is the exact same, but you have to pay for what is essentially a simple setting preset.
I am aware there’s concessions with consoles. I’ve got all of Nintendo’s handhelds back from the original Game Boy I got as a kid. But this is a new era when it comes to Nintendo and I’m not happy with the blatant greed on display, and disappointed that people defend it so readily. I regret buying the S2 but I can’t even sell it here in Norway unless I am willing to get less than 50% back.
I hope Nintendo will release something that makes it worth it at some point, but so far they haven’t. I own my mistake, don’t get me wrong, but I’m also going to share my distaste for practices like this one. The performance and resolution increase being locked behind buying added content is just a way to add fake value to a slim package.
@CaptainQuo That and if you play games on PC as well, the idea that you have to pay extra to make use of better hardware is asinine. Sure Sony does the same thing, but that doesn't make it acceptable.
@OneArmedGiant Except if they were being ironic, they're the ones whining.
People don't wine, that's a drink.
And if we're talking about the decline of brains in modern society, surely writing proper English and not capitalizing the second word in a sentence rather than the first would be worse indicators than me not being able to tell when someone is being ironic online, given their two paragraphs; one being clearly unironic, and the latter being ironic, I assume out of convenience after the fact.
> Yeah, absolutely. I especially love the DK Banaza and MKW upgrades! And that‘s just first party games. Street Fighter 6 also received a hefty upgrade pack, not to mention Cyberpunk and Fast Fusion. They all ran quite poorly on Switch.
None of those games are on Switch 1 though... And this isn't a free upgrade either.
@AverageGamer I am aware. And Valve is doing this for free — ie not charging the devs nor the customers — and you’d think From would put in at least as much effort and pay for help when they want to charge people for their port at a premium Switch 2 price point
@eldersnake Oh that's a good point, hadn't thought about that. From's engines are quite finnicky (and often on PC it's the community that has to "fix" it for them), so that might very well be the issue. Still, you'd think they'd ask for help when they want to sell a product, but I guess people will buy it based on reputation regardless.
Too visually and mechanically noisy for me. Pass. I'm also getting tired of this "Smash Bros" art style, both in the UI and in-game. It's been a staple for way too many of Sakurai's games by now.
I'd try a demo. There's no way I'm dropping that amount of money blind on something that looks this phoned in though. Legends Arceus was great, but I'm not fool enough to assume that means this is equally good despite looking so bland.

Re: Strong Final Fantasy Tactics Sales May Lead To More Remasters And Sequels
@breach187 It’s sleazy emotional manipulation and I feel less inclined to give them any money now. Not that the remaster looks good anyway.

Re: Video: Kirby And The Forgotten Land Is A Dream On Switch 2 - Here's Our Side-By-Side Comparison
I'm not happy that they bundle the resolution + performance bump on Switch 2 together with a little extra content for 1/3rd of the original price.
I didn't bite when Sony did this with its PS5 "upgrades", and I'm not biting now.

How does it look and run so much better on my Steam Deck..? I get locked 30fps on medium to high settings at native 800p resolution.

Re: Kirby Air Riders Zooms Onto Switch 2 This November
@TerribleTerabytes I liked Kid Icarus: Uprising and Smash Ultimate. But by Ultimate I was a bit tired of the art style. I enjoyed the game.

They need to release demos like this to the public. A video isn’t worth much.
